When Australia's lead batsman and first Muslim player Usman Khawaja sought to express his politics on the field, his team and even the prime minister rallied behind him, but he was ultimately reprimanded for it. Khawaja wore a black armband during the first Test against Pakistan in Perth in a personal gesture of mourning for children killed in Gaza during the Israel-Hamas conflict. That was after being rejected for wearing shoes with the words ‘All lives are equal' and ‘Freedom is a human right' in the colours of the Palestinian flag. Australia v Pakistan, Perth Day 4: The wait was all about Nathan Lyon's 500th wicket, and eventually it came around. Not before Pakistan challenged Australia with the ball one more time, Steve Smith furious with yet another dismissal, before Khawaja and Marsh kept on as they have been going. After that it was time for Starc, Hazlewood, Cummins, and Pakistani running between the wickets to have an influence, before Lyon's final say. Australia v Pakistan, Perth Day 1: Australia won the toss and chose to bat, and we know how that tends to pan out. David Warner had one of those David Warner days, which ended in David Warner style. Varied subplots of relevance for each of Khawaja, Labuschagne, Smith and Head, while Pakistan found a way into the contest at times, and out of it at times. “We're all part of one family and one nation, which is the planet. The human condition is our family.” - Eddy Khawaja This is a special episode of Real Talk. As a Palestinian-American, I've been experiencing my own struggle with the pain, suffering, and horror happening in my family's ancestral homeland. It's been hard to go on with the day-to-day, knowing that children and civilians are being killed and terrorized as we look on. Many people are losing hope and faith. I turned to a fellow advocate for humanity. I spoke with Eddy Khawaja, who was born and raised in the Occupied Palestinian Territories and has since lived all over the world. With a background in forensic chemistry and criminal justice, Eddy has worked for the United States Department of Homeland Security and is now a Chief Security Officer for an international aid organization in the Western Sahara. Eddy is also on a lifelong quest for spiritual enlightenment through studying religion, philosophy, and consciousness. Eddy and I had a raw conversation about humanity, life, and the meaning of it all. It was a healing, spiritual conversation about what we can do to help the world and how to center love, even in dire and catastrophic times. In this deeply reflective and existential talk, we unpack: Separateness and oneness: Eddy debunks the myth of “us versus them” and the illusion of separation. We are all waves in the same ocean, as he says. We are all one. Love Frequency: Eddy explains that if you love something, you affirm its existence. The love frequency is the highest vibration and frequency we can hold. Tap into this vibration, especially when everything around us is dark. Injustice: Eddy talks about how even one person's suffering anywhere is unacceptable. We also talk about the lessons humanity can learn from the brave children of Gaza. Humanity: Eddy dives into empathy and the understanding that the Divine chose everyone on earth to be here. We are a timeless reflection of the Divine. Self-Love: It starts with us. Eddy tells us we must go within ourselves, get knowledge, connect with a higher source, and keep moving forward. Create and embody the energy and change that you want to see in the world. Energy: Eddy explains how individual self-discovery and self-knowledge help elevate the collective energy. Our energy is powerful and can make changes in the world. Manifestation: Eddy discusses how we can move from despair by holding the vision of what we want the world to be. We are all Creators. Set a positive intention, meditate, and envision a best-case scenario. Trust that it's already happened. Aim for Heaven on Earth. Eddy encourages us not just to hope but to command what we want into existence through the Law of Resonance! We need love, light, and peace the most in times like these. I invite you to join us in holding that vision. With so much love & gratitude, Grace

Season 2, Ep 7: Reloading lost episodes from the early Final Word. To end the 2015-16 summer, Australia head to New Zealand. With the one-dayers done it's time for the first Test at Wellington. Would it be defined by the bat? By the ball? No, by the umpire's arm, calling Doug Bracewell for a no-ball that wasn't, and reprieving Adam Voges who would go on to a double century. It was the beginning of the eventual move to no-ball automation via the third umpire. Also, another Fake Green Mamba, some Trent Boult fun at No.11, Khawaja purrs with the bat and goes flair in the field, an argument about 'strangling' and the worst dismissals in cricket, the best return catch we've ever seen, Voges went past Bradman, Tim Southee kept hitting sixes, and we were puzzled by the notion of a two-Test series. Innocent times. This season was originally recorded for the ABC. Send us a Nerd Pledge at patreon.com/thefinalword Find more episodes at finalwordcricket.com Learn more about your ad choices.
