Recently Jamie has teamed up with friend, ex-pop star and businesswoman Myleene Klass to offer ‘My Supper Hero' a food service delivered straight to your door that allows you to make tasty, healthy meals in 10 minutes. Jamie talks to Di and Kurt all about his career, including taking risks as well as how he managed his businesses throughout covid. KEY TAKEAWAYS Jamie was in a band at university and it carried on into his legal career, he managed to convince his employers to send him to the Cannes Film festival and it was on the flight there he convinced George Michael to listen to his demo. 3 weeks later and he got a call, he was signed to George's label Aegean. At 27 Jamie was working as Roger Moore's lawyer and took a risk to offer to go into business with him, starting an amazing restaurant in Mayfair called Hush. After a lot of success stories, Jamie struggled when his Japanese-inspired Italian restaurant failed. He wasn't mentally prepared for this setback and it hit him hard. This is year is looking to be Hush's most successful year, Jamie attributes this to their ability to evolve whilst remaining consistent where it counts. It is a restaurant that has grown with him. My Supper Hero offers an alternative to takeaways, eating out and meal boxes. It's a premium product but at an affordable price. Jamie and Myleene chose a membership model for their food service business. This allows people to have the flexibility they need whilst giving them a steadier stream of revenue. BEST MOMENTS “You can only do that kind of stuff when you're young…then if it goes wrong you can start again” “The fact that something went wrong, I just wasn't mentally prepared for it” “Those periods where things don't turn out like you intend, they're tough but everybody has them” “It [the restaurant] hasn't been so trendy that it dates” “She [Myleene] has an incredible work ethic, I don't know how she fits it all in” ABOUT THE GUEST Jamie Barber Jamie Barber is one of the UK's top restauranteurs having successfully run several boutique restaurants including Mayfair's Hush. Imagine this, one day you're the CEO of a business turning over approximately $150 million, and then practically overnight everything just falls of a cliff. Our next guest co-founded and built the biggest Travel Media Company “Ink Global” and this is exactly what happened to him. He's someone you've probably never heard of, but for sure you've held one of his inflight magazines whilst sat on an aeroplane [with a drink in hand]. Fast track forward to the present day his persistence and passion has allowed him to transform his business and fight another day. Simon talks to Kurt and Di all about his unique journey to success, how to get back up again after a major setback, the strength behind powerful recruitment and why as an entrepreneur you always have to love what you do! KEY TAKEAWAYS When covid first hit, Simon didn't realise the long-lasting impact it would have. But by May of 2020 airplanes started to take his magazine off flights. In over 30 years' experience, nothing has ever stopped Simon doing business, until covid. One of the biggest challenges Simon struggled with throughout the pandemic, was the amount of people who were wasting time. This was a unique opportunity; it was a reset and not enough people took advantage. When you do things for the right reasons people want to help you more. Something Simon recognised when he asked many speakers to motivate and inspire his employees throughout the pandemic. The education system didn't work for Simon. He didn't enjoy school and he didn't feel like it gave him what he needed at the time. There must be a better education system than the one we are currently using. It doesn't equip children for the real world, the whole system needs changing. Simon believes in miracles, several times someone has been looking down on him to make unique and remarkable things happen, including a banking error which allowed his company to ride out financial difficulties. Deep down, Simon believes he lacks confidence. But, he believes you get good at sales, and most things in life, by practice and willingness to learn. Sales is about storytelling, asking great questions and practice. This is something Simon has mastered, alongside building incredible sales teams! Two of Simon's most well known books “There's No F in Sales” and “Equanimity” have been about sharing his own knowledge, wisdom and experiences learnt by running a sales business. Simon has been inspired by different people across the years, he believes you can find inspiration in many different places and most recently his inspiration has come from his eldest son. Opportunities are always out there. It's essential you are open and looking for them each day. You need to be awake and aware to recognise opportunities when they come along. BEST MOMENTS “It's the first time in my career that an event happened that stopped us doing business” “I don't really believe in this work-life balance, I believe it's all one thing” “Sales people are the backbone of this business” “Eventually rebel kids become entrepreneurs” “I understand the whole education system I just don't agree with it” “It matters that you are prepared to learn, you are prepared to become a sponge to your profession” “It's ok to not have all the answers, to doubt yourself” ABOUT THE GUEST Simon Leslie https://www.luckyleslie.com Over the last few decades, Simon has learned one or two things about surviving – and thriving – in global business. His company, Ink, has helped some of the world's largest brands advertise across hundreds of airlines and airports around the world, in media that's been translated into over 17 languages. As a leader, and a salesperson, Simon has weathered a few storms, and overcome some massive hurdles. The thing that kept Simon going throughout all the years has been belief. Belief in himself, his product, his team. Ben wants to be in business for a long time but he is working to be financially free by his 30's so that he can help others for free, give back and focus on family. BEST MOMENTS “Sometimes when people say the things you've done, you don't realise, it's imposter syndrome” “You can't buy experience” “Seeing your name on Spotify, on apple music, on all these platforms is insane” ABOUT THE HOSTS Kurt Wilson - Entrepreneur, Internet Veteran and Property Investor with multiple 7 figure businesses and property investments in the UK, GI, LT, BY and GR. Join Kurt and Di in this episode as they interview the most respected expert in the international world of martial arts, personal trainer to the stars and trusted employee of international superstar Michael Jackson. Matt opens-up about his incredible life story, what it was like being so close to people like Michael Jackson and Uri Gellar as well as the many lessons he has discovered along the way. KEY TAKEAWAYS Matt didn't have the greatest time at school. He got bullied and he found that the system and structure didn't work for him either. He tried his best but the experience knocked his confidence. However, he recognises that if it hadn't been for this experience, he never would have had the fire in his belly to achieve what he has. He began training in martial arts at 7, he had a natural ability for this and the praise he received cheered him on. He went on to open Martial Art Schools as an adult and has now built the biggest chain of Martial Art Schools in the world! Mindset has always been key for Matt. He has always simply decided what he wanted to do and then done the work and actions needed to achieve it. You have to be passionate and have the mindset and self-motivation to self-educate. This is how anyone can become successful. Matt got into property at age 18. His journey continued when he met Uri Geller who pushed him harder and further. They are still good friends today. A phone call at 03:30am changed Matt's life forever. He was introduced by Uri to Michael Jackson, this is how they met and for the next decade Matt was his personal bodyguard and friend. He learnt that there were two sides to Michael. There was the soft friendly side and then there was the strict, harsher side which Matt attributes to Michaels Dad, Joe Jackson. Michael Jackson knew how to keep himself in the media, a lot of the things he would be in the newspaper for or on the news, were on purpose. ‘Michael Jackson' was a persona he took on when he was performing and in the limelight. He was a real marketer and a great businessman. Since Michael died, there has been an influx of rumours, some based on old rumours and some new. It's unfair as he is not here to defend himself, Matt never saw anything that would elude to any of these allegations being true and he was by his side for over ten years. Michael didn't have many vices, but Matt says his favourite meal was fish and chips and he adored KFC! Matt would often treat him when he would ‘sneak' Michael out into the real world away from his entourage of security etc. We all have skeletons and family issues. It doesn't matter how famous or how rich you are these don't go away. There was a lot of complex issues going on in the Jackson family and still is. As an older and wiser man, Matt now understands that Michael didn't want to hear things he didn't like. Even if people were trying to help him, if they said something he didn't like then they were out of his inner circle. BEST MOMENTS “You find with a lot of successful people they have had this pain point which motivated them” “You've got to do the opposite to everyone else to be successful” “How can Michael Jackson have no money?” “The bigger the star, the bigger the target” ABOUT THE HOSTS Kurt Wilson - Entrepreneur, Internet Veteran and Property Investor with multiple 7 figure businesses and property investments in the UK, GI, LT, BY and GR. In this episode, join Kurt and Di as they speak to marketing-extraordinaire Neil Patel! Neil was called the number one marketer in the world by Entrepreneur magazine and has been listed in the top 100 of entrepreneurs by both Barack Obama and the United Nations. Neil has helped thousands of companies with his skills and research in marketing and in this episode, he speaks to Kurt and Di about all things marketing including: what best practice looks like, why experimenting is key, the best way to monetise and the importance of taking a holistic approach to your marketing. KEY TAKEAWAYS Neil has said many times over that entrepreneurship was in his blood. Every single person in his mother's family was an entrepreneur. He began his entrepreneurship at an early age and at the age of 16 he launched his very first website ‘advice monkey'. Broke and frustrated after getting zero results from marketing companies Neil decided to learn marketing for himself. He got very good at it and this is what led to his first jobs in marketing and eventually starting up his own marketing agency. In marketing, it's important to test and experiment but also be patient. If you change too much at the same time or too quickly you then can't isolate what has given you success. There is best practice in marketing, but after these core principles networking with other marketers can help you learn what new and experimental things are currently working out in the field. Keywords are still a big thing in the marketing world but the user experience is increasingly important alongside this. When you first begin looking at your marketing, it's ok to go for the low hanging fruit. Focus on what works the best the fastest, you can then begin to implement more sophisticated tactics further down the line. Updating your content is essential. If you update your best content then you'll notice your rankings will improve. Focus on giving away free tools too, this way you will be linked more and the more links you get the higher you will rank. If you are seeking advice, ensure you are getting it from the right person. Do they have experience in what you are asking them about? BEST MOMENTS “Most importantly, I would experiment on my own” “It's not just about SEO, marketing is about everything, building a brand, creating content, building a community, optimising…there are so many aspects to digital marketing” “The biggest thing we learnt was to give it time, most people want their businesses to do well in the first year or two it really take 5-10 years” “Corporate brands are where the money is at, it's not personal” ABOUT THE GUEST Neil Patel New York Times Bestselling author. The Wall Street Journal calls him a top influencer on the web, Forbes says he is one of the top 10 marketers, and Entrepreneur Magazine says he created one of the 100 most brilliant companies. He was recognized as a top 100 entrepreneur under the age of 30 by President Obama and a top 100 entrepreneur under the age of 35 by the United Nations. An engaging and revealing episode where Kurt and Di speak to former Rugby player and now manager for the England Rugby team, Shaun Wane. They talk about Shaun's difficult upbringing, the secrets to being a good manager and coach, why we should always stay as eternal students and how mindset is key in everything we try to achieve. KEY TAKEAWAYS Shaun grew up in Wigan on a rough estate. It was a challenging upbringing; his Dad wasn't the kindest man and he and his brothers would often go hungry. He says that until the age of 15 he didn't have any good memories but it has made him a better Dad and provider himself. Shaun started playing rugby at just 5 years old, Things happen to all of us, it can be tragic and not our fault but it's something we have to accept if we want to move forward, blame doesn't help anyone. Shaun decided he wanted to do something with his life and choose the right path and it was this mindset that has brought him the life he has now. We should always be learning and developing ourselves as individuals. Even though Shaun is already very successful, he never stops learning and wanting to better himself in any way he can. Shaun has always believed Rubgy players behaviour outside of the game is just as important. Even things like manners and ignorance; he believes you can't be ‘sloppy' off the field, discipline is important in all areas of your life. Transitioning from a player to a manager can be a challenge for many people. Shaun had to educate himself, mostly by learning on the job. Shaun has always been a very logical person and has a good backing of common sense so he managed it relatively easily and very successfully. He approached it like a business and this mindset worked. Honesty, knowledge and positivity is how Shaun gets the buy in from his players. He says that if he can give the team the knowledge they need to win, then they can believe they will win and this is half the battle. Vision of the team is instrumental to winning. Shaun works backwards to then figure out who and what is part of this vision and this is one of the ways he decided who stays on the team and who to work with. BEST MOMENTS “It's up to the individual to carve their own path” “You have to be on it off the field and on it” “The perfect player for me is a well-mannered, respectful bloke who has a good work ethic” “When you have players underperforming, then you have a problem” “I never thought I would coach Wigan and I did, I definitely never thought I would coach England” “Every one of our players know how to win a game because we've worked hard” ABOUT THE GUEST Shaun Wane Former professional ruby player and head coach for the England national rugby league team. https://twitter.com/shaun_waney https://shaunwane.com/#Home ABOUT THE HOST Kurt Wilson - Entrepreneur, Internet Veteran and Property Investor with multiple 7 figure businesses and property investments in the UK, GI, LT, BY and GR. In this episode, Kurt & Di speak to a former DJ who co-founded an eco-business after witnessing the devastating effect plastic waste was having on the beaches of Thailand: One of Forbes 30 under 30, Co-Founder of CanO Water, Josh White. They talk about Josh's journey to creation of water in a can, the wider conversation around plastic pollution and why any eco-business must be realistic; understanding that the nature of convenience and the mindset of the average person affects their ability to be eco-friendly. KEY TAKEAWAYS Josh was previously a DJ but it was when he was travelling in Thailand with his two friends and saw the amount of plastic waste on almost every beach they went to that was the catalyst for change for him. Big brands the and his friends grew up loving were polluting these beaches. They wanted to know how and why this was happening and set out to change things. So, the three of them put water in a can! When they first came home from Thailand, they went back to their ‘normal lives' but they couldn't forget about what they had seen, they felt like they had to do something. Josh and his co-founders understood that tap water is best but recognised that it couldn't be the only solution. There are always instances when we need water and a tap isn't available. They researched using cans as this was the best on-the-go alternative to plastic. The infrastructure was already there and they are infinitely recyclable. They recognised the reality of the world and that convenience will always be a part of that. Josh has always cared about the environment but didn't think it was something he would go into in a big way. It was the sheer shock of what he saw in Thailand that changed his mind set and put pollution firmly on his radar. He was part of the problem before and now he is trying to be part of the solution. Josh's entrepreneurial spirit and work ethic came from his Dad's values and ethos. It was instilled in him at a young age and is something that pushes him forwards in all aspects of his life now. Being named one of Forbes Under 30 was an incredible moment for Josh, he never thought he would receive this. It gave the business an opportunity to be taken more seriously, especially as in the beginning it was looked at as a ‘fad' rather than innovation. In the early days, Josh was told he would never get CanO Water into Tesco. They were wrong and this is one of Josh's proudest achievements, having his local shop selling his creation. Launching a product in the food and drink industry is extremely challenging. Josh's advice for anyone wanting to do this is to not give up, lots of people will tell you to quit but don't listen. If you believe in yourself and in your brand, you just have to keep going. BEST MOMENTS “We're very curious boys who wanted to make a difference” “The three of us became obsessed with trying to solve the problem of pollution” “Tap water can't be the only option” “What is the best on the go alternative that can compete against plastic?” “That obsession of wanting to be the best has always propelled me” “A lot of people don't want to be the first but Forbes under 30 showed a lot of people that CanO Water is here to stay” ABOUT THE GUEST Josh White Co-founder of CanO Water, the eco-friendly alternative to plastic bottled water. https://uk.linkedin.com/in/josh-white-78b56b9a https://canowater.com ABOUT THE HOST Kurt Wilson - Entrepreneur, Internet Veteran and Property Investor with multiple 7 figure businesses and property investments in the UK, GI, LT, BY and GR. In this engaging and inspirational episode, Di and Kurt speak to Sabri Suby, the owner of the fastest growing digital agency in Australia. Di and Kurt first came across Sabri back in 2019 where they discovered his unique perspective, knowledge and ideas around sales and marketing. Listen in to this episode where Di and Kurt discuss Sabri's entrepreneurial journey, his creative mindset and how the ‘single-mother work ethic' he learnt growing-up has contributed to a lot of his success in sales, marketing and business. KEY TAKEAWAYS Sabri got his first start in sales when he was just 16 years old. He did this for several months and at first, he wasn't very good! But, he improved quickly and from then onwards was always the top salesman in every company he worked for. This gave him insight into marketing which he then moved into, eventually starting his first business when he was only 21! Good sales people are born from their environment. They are shaped by their experiences and personal qualities which then trains them into being good sales people. However, anyone can be trained in sales with the right mindset and framework. Growing up poor inevitably has a big impact on a person and Sabri acknowledges this was very true for him. His biggest motivation to do well in sales and his career was to build a life for himself where he didn't need to worry about money. Sabri has always be fascinated with the age-old business problem of getting more customers. This was what his company King Kong was born from, he saw a huge opportunity in the marketplace where he could solve a complex problem that many other companies and agencies avoided. Sabri is a firm believer in value-based marketing and offering high value content offers to sell; the aim is to leave the people you have marketed to ‘better than you found them' and that your advertising and marketing itself has value to any potential clients. Just by leading with this simple strategy, Sabri has found his sales increased by 5x! Only 3% of any given market are looking to buy right now. These are the people most businesses and marketing focuses on. But a further 17% are doing what is called ‘window shopping'. If you produce an offer so good that it ‘can't be refused' you will capture both the 3% and a good proportion of the 17% too as they don't want to risk missing out. People are information seekers. Providing a valuable content offer provides people with this information and the problem your market is looking for. It is that simple. Sabri follows a strict work schedule to allow him manage his workflow effectively. Mondays and Fridays he schedules all his meetings and the day-to-day of the business, then Tue-Thu he focuses on the future and growth of the business. BEST MOMENTS “Why should I go to university and learn this when I've already got it” “I wanted lots of money, I wanted to be in a position where there was abundance” “It doesn't matter where it is in the world you are calling from; human beings are the same and the psychology and how they're wired… is the same” “I cannot pay my employees with a like” “Their selfishness is resulting in them getting less of the thing that it is that they want…which is more customers and revenue for their business” ABOUT THE GUEST Sabri Suby Owner and founder of the fastest growing digital agency in Australia, King Kong. https://kingkong.co/uk/ https://selllikecrazybook.com ABOUT THE HOSTS Kurt Wilson - Entrepreneur, Internet Veteran and Property Investor with multiple 7 figure businesses and property investments in the UK, GI, LT, BY and GR. The Godfather of SEO best known for advancing the industry with the development of OptiLink and publishing Dynamic Linking, Leslie Rhode joins the show today to talk through his journey as well as sharing some SEO tips. Together they discuss the evolution of SEO, the change in the algorithms over the years and the benefits of using ResultFlow. KEY TAKEAWAYS For a decade there was a trifecta of SEO scripts which meant that you didn't have to do anything else. You could have lasted through 2011 without furthering your knowledge as long as you weren't doing anything ‘spammy'. Right now, the primary search engine is almost unchanged. However, there is a moat that you will have to go through. They have layered the signals and other filters on top of the core algorithm. Inside, the way they do the computation is more efficient. There are some changes but the actual ranking algorithm is the same it has just got a lot better. One piece of good advice is to not go to college and instead, start your own business. What we should be doing is not making college or university fees cheaper, we should be making it less necessary. A college degree has a negative ROI in the USA. What ResultFlo aims to do is make all the posting, promotion, and small tasks you have to do a little bit easier. With ResultFlow all you have to do is pick content that would be appropriate for your market and the system will create unique content and post it to your blog as well as running an Ad to your audience on Facebook. There are two different streams of content on ResultFlow. Firstly it will grow your content and secondly, it will attract your page audience to your website and then retarget them. Facebook recognises the real buyer journey, which is one of the most important things they have ever done. However, almost all large Facebook advertisers don't utilise the platform correctly. BEST MOMENTS “I was on a completely different track.” “That one chance conversation led to my career in SEO.” “I believe that it never actually changed.” “One of several times I almost killed the company.” ABOUT THE GUEST “Best known for advancing the state of SEO with the development of OptiLink (2002) and the publication of Dynamic Linking (2003).Specialities: A unique combination of technology, business and marketing achieved through a professional career beginning in 1974, business ownership since 1988 and web e-commerce and marketing since 2001”. Author, Family Man, Creator of ‘Wake Up' and Star of Undercover Billionaire, Matt Smith and his right hand woman and wife Jenny Smith join the show today to discuss their success on Discovery Channel's season 2 of The Undercover Billionaire and what it is really like to work alongside the world famous Grant Cardone. They reveal what it's like working as a couple, life lessons to teach you children and why you need to learn in order to grow. KEY TAKEAWAYS If you are a couple and working together in business you have to make sure you define your roles. Let each other succeed in what you both do well in. Find that balance and make sure you over communicate everything so that neither one is out of the loop. For anyone starting out on their property business journey, the best advice is to just get out there and do it. You spend so much money a year on realtor fees, get your own license if you live in the US and then invest, invest, invest! The hardest part of starting a business journey is just doing it. Take a leap of faith and you will figure everything out along the way. An entrepreneur jumps out of a plane and builds a parachute on the way down. You can then learn from any mistakes you make and get stronger and better along the way. A great life lesson to teach your children is making sure they tell themselves that today is going to be a great day no matter one. Secondly, teach them to always see things through. Don't quit when you face difficult challenges, make sure you see it through until the end. The main reason that people are not as successful as they could be is that they spend too much of their energy thinking about what they can't do and they don't attempt things. Just go for it and you truly will figure things out along the way. Everybody has a little entrepreneur in them but the large majority of the population is too intimidated to take that plunge. The small percent of people that take their chance to just go for it and are willing to learn. Nothing will ever be perfect, no matter what you do so just be willing to learn and you will continue to grow. Wildly successful Entrepreneur (selling Kiddicare for an impressive £70 Million), Mentor, Author & Public Speaker, Neville Wright joins Kurt and Di in this hilarious episode of Back 2 Business. Neville shares his story about how he went from being ‘unemployable', to being self-employed and co-founding one of the UK's largest children's retailers Kiddicare, along with his wife Maraliyn as well as creating multiple streams of income. Together, they discuss the perks of being self-employed, why you should always trust your gut and the benefits of being mentored. KEY TAKEAWAYS When you go self-employed you are able to do the work which you are trained for and are able to get other staff members to do the work which you cannot do. If you have a vision you are able to make it come true by having all the competencies that you need for that vision. The grit for success comes from your vision, hopes, dreams and determination. Listen to your gut more and try not to listen to the opinions of others who are not experts within your niche. If somebody who has mastered the niche, gives you advice then take it as they may have made mistakes which they don't want you to make too. You have to speculate, to accumulate. When you speculate, you speculate with everything you have in your life. Start to review the way you treat people, what you do for people and the way you do business. Stand still, and look around. What is there around you that could be a potential business opportunity? With the right attitude you can achieve anything. You may have challenges but you can achieve greatness when you put your mind to it. Do not let other people brainwash you. Brainwash yourself with the thoughts, goals and aspirations that you want and have. BEST MOMENTS “I was competing against me, to tell me that I wasn't a stupid person.” “ I should have listened to my gut feeling a lot more.” “Stand still and look around you.” “This is the only job I have got today, So I might as well make it the best job I have got today.” ABOUT THE GUEST “ When I was 24 years old I retired from mainstream employment to become self-employed, maybe because I thought that I was unemployable, as after having 17 jobs it was clear to me that I needed to focus all of my energy into my own life and business.I developed a property maintenance business, expanding into retail, alongside incorporating buying and selling businesses. Spinning plates in each of the businesses to keep them going was very intense and educational, juggling finances became an art which I thrived on. Just how can anyone in our society retire at the age of 24 having no money and no education? I say, ‘it's easy for some, all you need is to be in your element so when you find that you are in your element you will never have to work another day in your life.' I have gone through recessions since the big one in1974, there were some very scary times and indeed more scary moments than anyone could imagine, however, all these life experiences have put me in a position to advise people. Throughout my 47-year career in business, property investment, retail and building have been at the core of my success, but most people recognise me, and my wife Marilyn, for the sale of Kiddicare, a baby nursery retailer which we started in 1977 and sold for £70 million in cash to Morrisons supermarket in 2011. A record price for one independent shop in the depths of a recession. What many people will not know is I had previously sold three nursery businesses, dating back over the last 36 years, plus a variety of other businesses including hairdressing salons, restaurants, a large house-building business and a technology company.” Website : https://nevillewright.com/lifeline-neville-wright/ LinkedIn: https://uk.linkedin.com/in/nevillewrightmentor Purchase Neville's Book : https://www.amazon.co.uk/Neville-Wright/e/B0034P9BRQ%3Fref=dbs_a_mng_rwt_scns_share Twitter:@NevilleWrightNW ABOUT THE HOSTS Kurt Wilson - Entrepreneur, Internet Veteran and Property Investor with multiple 7 figure businesses and property investments in the UK, GI, LT, BY and GR. The Disruptive Entrepreneur himself, Rob Moore joins the podcast today to discuss how he managed to become a successful entrepreneur, best-selling author and social media star after having over £50K worth of debt at the age of just 25. Together they discuss the importance of loving what you do, why you should not let one bad thing that happened to you ruin your whole mindset and why being an entrepreneur means you get to do what you love for as long as you live. KEY TAKEAWAYS If you study the people who love what they do and do what they love, they are all working until the early hours of the morning and do not even see it as work. The key to energy is merging your passion with your profession and doing what you love, and loving what you do. Never let anyone tell you that money is not a motivator, it absolutely is a motivator. However, just ensure that you do not make money the only motivator. So many people let one bad thing ruin everything. What you should learn to do is identify the bad thing in your day and make sure that it does not warp your view of everything else going on in your life. So many people want to sell their business when they have a bad day or a complaint. Always know that you are on the right path. Everything is not for everyone, including entrepreneurship. Would you rather have the downsides of entrepreneurship or the downsides of employment? The rewards of being an entrepreneur may outway the rewards of being employed. You can contribute massively and create a product and service yourself and watch it grow. If you are in a creative or valuable endeavor and are doing something that you love, why would you want it to end? As an entrepreneur you know that you have the rest of your life to do cool and interesting stuff and the fact that you can continue to do that forever, is exciting. BEST MOMENTS “Of course, meeting Mark has had a massive impact in my business and financial life.” “I love coming up with an idea and people thinking it won't work and making it work.” “Being told what to do by someone I don't like and I don't admire, is a pain way worse than the challenges of being an entrepreneur.” “Bring it on.” ABOUT THE GUEST “At the age of 25, Rob was £50k in consumer debt; less than five years later, a self-made multi-millionaire. He co-founded the Progressive Group – starting with Progressive Property, then Progressive Successes and the Entrepreneurs Business academy (EBA). In today's podcast, Kurt and Di are joined by USA 200m Olympic athlete, social media star and entrepreneur, Curtis Mitchell, who explains how he went from humble beginnings, to competing against Usain Bolt on the olympic stage and bagging himself a Bronze medal. Curtis discusses how to keep yourself focused, how to leverage your personal brand to take you to greater levels of success and why giving back to the community you came from is so important. KEY TAKEAWAYS We all have bad days. Sometimes you may feel low or anxious but you should always remember that you cannot bank that each day of your life is going to be great. You have to get comfortable, being uncomfortable. To keep yourself focused, understand that the reason you are working so hard is because you do not want to be average, you want to be great. Money should not be your main motivator, use your idols as your motivation. If you want to be as good as someone, make it your aim to get into their league so that one day, you may even find yourself competing against them. You have to continuously put the effort in when you want to create your own business. You have to be smart with yourself and put yourself out there. Be disciplined, focused, work on yourself and educate yourself to get to where you want to be. If you do not have any financial literacy, you are going to get taken advantage of, so educate yourself first to avoid this happening to you. Continuously strive to put yourself out there, make new connections on social media platforms such as Clubhouse and leverage this to grow your brand. Once you do that, you will start to get in front of the right people that can help take you to the next level. Build a strong, reputable brand that, if done correctly you can leverage to take you on to bigger opportunities. Giving back to the community you came from is really important. Sharing your personal stories and being a mentor to children who came from similar, humble beginnings like you did can help motivate and inspire them and will allow them to know and believe that they can reach similar levels of success. BEST MOMENTS “I am never going to quit on myself.” “I took a chance.” “It takes money to make money.” “I want to continue to add more value.” ABOUT THE GUEST “Curtis was a 2008 & 2009 junior college 4 time outdoor all American and state champion in the 100 and 200 m at Southwestern College in San Diego. Mitchell had a successful collegiate career for Texas A&M University. At the 2010 NCAA Indoor Championships he won the 200 m and was part of Texas A&M's winning team in the 4 × 400 m relay. His time in the 200 m was 20.38 s, the best indoor time in the world that year and a Texas A&M record. At the outdoor championships that year he placed second to Rondel Sorrillo in the 200 m, helping Texas A&M to their second consecutive NCAA team title. In 2010, Mitchell represented the United States at the NACAC Under-23 Championships in Miramar, Florida, winning gold in both 200 m and the 4 × 100 m relay. In the 200 m semi-finals he clocked a wind-legal personal best of 19.99 s, placing him seventh in the world that year. Mitchell turned professional in January 2011, forgoing his final year of collegiate eligibility to sign with Adidas and join the training group of two-time World ChampionTyson Gay , Curtis Mitchell won Bronze at the 2013 IAAF World Championships behind Usain Bolt and Warren Weir in a time of 20.04 seconds.” Instagram: @Mr._200 Twitter: MrMitchell200m World Athletics Statistics: https://worldathletics.org/athletes/united-states/curtis-mitchell-14246265 Clubhouse: MrMitchell200 ABOUT THE HOSTS Kurt Wilson - Entrepreneur, Internet Veteran and Property Investor with multiple 7 figure businesses and property investments in the UK, GI, LT, BY and GR. Internationally recognised SEO expert and Backlinko founder Brian Dean joins Kurt and Di today to discuss how he went from failing to succeeding in the world of online business. They discuss how to ensure you do not hire the wrong people, how to scale your business and how to grow your YouTube channel. KEY TAKEAWAYS The main takeaway from reading the book “The four hour work week” is that almost anyone can do it, if they apply the right strategies. It is not about who you are as a person it is just doing the right things. Your identity may be wrapped up in your job role or your academic achievements but you can change that if it no longer serves you. Even if you have never tried to go on your own, it is still doable. To ensure you do not hire the wrong people you can create a two part filter. Firstly, put something in your job proposal that they have to include in the cover letter showing that they read it, this proves that they can follow instructions. Secondly, hire everyone for a test project rather than hiring them straight away for the real things, this will save you money and time in the long run. When you are just getting started in business it is all about grinding and figuring things out. Once you move past this point, you need to focus on scaling your business. That has less to do with SEO and more to do with creating a good work culture, creating systems and hiring more staff. If you are looking to start and grow your YouTube channel some good advice is to create great content and continue to post regularly. Good content has a way of finding its way to get views although you will still need to promote it. YouTube is a platform that is much fairer than others, you have a chance to get your video seen without having to work extremely hard. Watch other YouTube channels that have high subscriber counts and are outside of your niche, then compare the structure of their videos to yours. You should then look at other Youtube channels within your niche and identify what seems to be working and what doesn't. Incorporate these findings into your videos. Working remotely will not impact your productivity even if you move around and work from different cities of countries around the world. BEST MOMENTS “Even if you have never even tried this, it is still doable.” “For every prince, there are 100 frogs.” “How it starts is how it ends.” “With YouTube, I would say focus on your videos more than your ‘bells and whistles' stuff.” ABOUT THE GUEST Brian Dean is an internationally recognized SEO expert. After failing with his first five online businesses, Brian finally struck gold with a site in the personal finance space in 2012. He created Backlinko to teach the lessons he learned along the way. Since launching Backlinko, Brian quickly made a name for himself by publishing insanely practical strategies that marketers can use to grow their online business. Leader in the field of search engine optimization tools and CEO & Co-Founder of SEOmoz, Rand Fishkin joins Kurt and Di today to share his story about how he went from university drop out to becoming CEO of the worlds biggest SEO empire. Together, they discuss how to improve your Google ranking, defining your own goals and how entrepreneurs have the opportunity to create a brand new business world. KEY TAKEAWAYS Working with family can present itself with many challenges, particularly if you live together. You may find that you only ever talk about your business and rarely have time to switch off. These days many businesses are beginning to outsource their staff such as contractors, consultants and agencies. Usually consultants and agencies will ramp up a lot faster than regular employees. Training someone inhouse takes longer than hiring a consultant since many jobs require a large skill set. When you want to improve your Google ranking you need to evolve with the platform. The search engine has grown and rather than only using keywords, you need to ensure that your content solves the searchers query ten times better than anyone else. Over time, you would eventually rank higher. Google would figure out the signals that it needs to ensure that your brilliant content ranked the highest. When creating high ranking content, have empathy for the person that is searching the query. Imagine the searcher has a question they need answering, they reach your content and it solves their original question as well as the new questions they may have thought of whilst reading it. When you define your own goals for success you also want to carve out some of the road map that you want to use to get there. Make that fundamentally different to how others do it. A lot of people and a lot of businesses are all competing with each other. This works terribly when you have a few monopolies who are influencing the world. As entrepreneurs you have a chance to participate in the world that you want to see exist. BEST MOMENTS “I think that humility and that lack of confidence actually helped build a big audience.” “In retrospect, I deeply regret it.” “I want to prove to the world that you can build an alternative fundraising model, your own fundraising model and be more successful statistically.” “It was a very, very challenging time.” ABOUT THE GUEST Rand Fishkin is the CEO & Co-Founder of SEOmoz, a leader in the field of search engine optimization tools, resources & community. In 2009, he was named among the 30 Best Young Tech Entrepreneurs Under 30 by BusinessWeek, and has been written about it in the Seattle Times, Newsweek and the New York Times among others. Rand has keynoted conferences on search from Sydney to Reykjavik, Montreal to Munich and spoken at dozens of shows around the world. He's particularly passionate about the SEOmoz blog, read by tens of thousands of search professionals each day. An exciting new episode as Kurt and Di are joined by successful author, founder of Evolution 2.0 and internet marketing expert, Perry Marshall. Perry shares his personal journey on his route to international success and discusses his new ventures in the world of online marketing. Together they discuss that book "The Ultimate Guide to Google AdWords" and how to excel by elimination outlined in his book Detox, Declutter, Dominate. KEY TAKEAWAYS Some great advice if you are looking to start writing a book would be ‘don't start unless you are a writer'. This doesn't mean you have to be ‘Ernest Hemingway' but you do need to have a way with words. When you do decide to write, you need to write about something unique. You need to either write the same thing to a unique set of people or you need to address a new thing. This may mean narrowing your topic down to something really specific. TikTok is like Facebook 11 years ago. There is a huge amount of engagement on it and it is likely going to be a multi billion dollar platform before long. All of the social media platforms have their own idiosyncratic way and nobody can be an expert of all of them. You can get good at one or two of them and use the other platforms for re-targeting. Succeeding in business is not a bunch of formulas or systems that you go and copy out of somebody's manual. Business is really 7 riddles that only you can figure out for yourself. Firstly, you need a ritual to figure out the riddles in the first place. You need to start your day the right way which is by planning, meditating, praying or whatever your spiritual practice is. This is the foundation of everything. You need to figure out where the 80/20 levers are in your business. Then, you need to earn $1000 an hour a day for one hour a day with 80/20 time. You then need to create an irresistible product that is a joy to use by simplifying it for your customers. You are going to find a way to make your customers' life simpler, it may make your life more complicated but this is why you have a job. Carve out the niche where you're the number one undisputed leader. Most people never do this but whatever you do you need to make sure you are number one. Next, build a moat around your castle to ensure you are defending your business long term, why start a business you cannot defend?. Lastly, enjoy the freedom to create an event everyday. Most people feel guilty when they are creating something, reading a book or just thinking. When you get to a certain level of mastery in your niche, you will now know how to master anything. You will eventually be able to know more about an entire industry in two weeks than a college student who has spent three years of their life learning about. BEST MOMENTS “My first sales job totally ran against my marketing DNA” “You have got to have something unique to say.” “If he has to remind you how smart he is, to remind you he is smart..then he is not smart.” “One person cannot master 6 ad platforms.” “Whatever you do you need to make sure you are number one in.” “Everyone is conditioned to look busy, but they aren't even busy.” .. and be sure to check out the quick fire trivia round! Serial entrepreneur, public speaker, best selling author and one of the UK's most successful property experts Kevin McDonnell joins Kurt and Di today to share his personal journey in property and offer invaluable advice for anyone wishing to start out in the industry. Together they discuss property strategies and techniques, how to find which technique works best for you and how property can completely change your life. KEY TAKEAWAYS There are only a few property strategies: Commercial, Buy-to-lets, HMO's (Houses of multiple occupancy), serviced accommodation and buy to sell. You then have property techniques which are different ways to acquire property. Decide what type of property strategy you wish to do and then figure out how you can go about doing that with no money. You do not need money to do property, you need knowledge. So many people within property are trying to do what is best. You do not need to do what is best, you just need to do something that works well for you. You do not need to do risky strategies once you are out of debt even if the risk could potentially bring you huge rewards. What many people in property are doing is focusing too much on money. They are focusing on the money they have in their banks and wondering what to do with it. Whilst they are focusing on their money, they are failing to put a proper plan in place. You should immediately start to think about making connections. Start talking to people walking the streets, look around areas scouting for properties for sale and go knocking on the door. Reach out to the owners and landlords and offer them your business proposal. For those on a budget looking for a business mentor they can try to utilise free resources such as podcasts, free events, online events and books. Be around anything and everything that can get you closer to your property goals. Utilise local property events so that you can build your local network. Be obsessed or be average. You should be obsessed with your own journey and make sure you work both smart and hard so that you get a lot into your day and are able to enjoy your downtime. BEST MOMENTS “I had the drive, the passion and the confidence but I didn't have the knowledge.” “What I did see, completely changed my life.” “I get a buzz out of negotiating a deal.” “I've made myself financially strong.” “When I work I work hard, when I don't I don't.” "Be obsessed or be average." .. and be sure to check out the quick fire trivia round! Welcome to the Back2Business podcast with Kurt Wilson (Entrepreneur, Internet Veteran and Property Investor) and Di Forster (Entrepreneur, Property Investor and Mum with exceptional grit). This insightful and informative show is perfect for time-poor entrepreneurs looking to start, grow and scale their business and with jam-packed episodes and fascinating stories filled with actionable advice, the Back2Business podcast is here to help you take your business venture to the next level. In today's episode, Kurt and Di are joined by one of the UK's top property experts and co-founder of the UK's largest property training business, Mark Homer. Together they discuss what it takes to be successful in property, which investment strategies can turn property into profit, and some important lessons and property market prediction. KEY TAKEAWAYS Delayed gratification is about building assets for income streams, equity and making money for the future. Save a pound today and that will be worth so much more in the years to come. If you decide it is time to take out a credit card you absolutely must set up a direct debit to ensure the full amount is paid every month, this is non-negotiable. If you find it hard to keep track, make weekly payments. This has to be the way forward so that you can learn financial discipline. There are many common mistakes people repeatedly make when getting into property. One of them being ‘shiny penny syndrome' this meaning that they do too many strategies not very well. It is wise to start small so that you can get experience and understand where all the risks and control points are. We are taxed on everything in the UK but there is no capital gains tax on owning your own property. Capital growth has got to be around 5% a year, with that being said by getting a fixed 2-3% rate on a mortgage for your home, you will essentially live in your house for free or even make money on it. These are the times where the rubber meets the road. Residential is generally less risky and in the last recession, commercial was hit harder, however, next time it may be another industry affected. The next recession will not be like this one and different businesses get affected in different ways. You don't know what will cause the next recession so now may be the time to diversify into other tenant types. Many people will have goals they wish to achieve but rather than cracking on with it, will procrastinate. It is important to have the ‘start now get perfect later' mentality. As you progress you will instinctively see more risks and problems. Start small and therefore the risks are going to be smaller. BEST MOMENTS "Champagne lifestyle for lemonade money" “My home doesn't cost me anything.” “Am I going to be out of stock with property?
