Mindset Before Money: Why Most Financial Advice is Useless

What if wealth isn't about the product you choose, but the mindset you bring before you choose it?   In this Live Counterflow interview, Brandon sits down with Bob Regnerus, a coach, strategist, and long-time contributor in the Perry Marshall ecosystem, to explore why most financial and business strategies fail without alignment, conviction, and self-awareness.   Bob shares insights from over 30 years of coaching high-performing entrepreneurs, athletes, and leaders, revealing how purpose, natural advantage, and 80/20 leverage shape results long before tactics ever matter.   This conversation goes deep into: Why copying successful people often backfires How "clarity" can become a trap without action The difference between hard work and aligned hard work What your "financial nervous system" reveals about money decisions Why systems pressure people into default thinking, and how to step out How AI can amplify your strengths without replacing human intuition   Bob also explains the Purpose Factor framework, a tool that helps people remember who they are, identify what lights them up, and recognize blind spots that quietly sabotage progress.   If you're a business owner, entrepreneur, or leader who's tired of chasing tactics that don't fit, this episode will challenge how you think about money, growth, and leverage   00:00 Welcome to Wealth Wisdom Financial Podcast 00:05 Introducing Live Counterflow 00:50 Mindset Shifts and Financial Nervous System 01:13 Interview with Bob Ris: Coach, Mentor, Entrepreneur 01:29 Bob's Background and Achievements 05:49 The Importance of Purpose and Natural Advantage 13:26 Financial Systems and Personal Purpose 18:24 Purpose Factor and Self-Discovery 22:09 Applying 80/20 Principle in Life and Business 27:28 Discovering Your Marketing DNA 28:03 Embracing Your Natural Strengths 29:48 The Power of Experimentation 31:00 Understanding Your Purpose Factor 32:09 Commitment and Testing in Business 34:03 The 80/20 Principle in Action 35:30 How You Do One Thing is How You Do Everything 37:52 Aligning Business with Personal Values 45:12 Leveraging AI for Creativity and Efficiency 49:17 Purpose Factor Assessment and Its Benefits 52:51 Closing Remarks and Appreciations]   Watch on YouTube: https://youtu.be/EQS5mXEXyPQ

What If Everything You've Been Told About Building Wealth Is Wrong? Have you ever wondered why the financial industry treats entrepreneurs like they should act like employees? Save for retirement. Max out your 401(k). Lock your money away for 30 years. That advice might work for someone with a steady paycheck and a pension. But for business owners? It's a recipe for disaster. In Part 2 of our conversation with Perry Marshall, we're pulling back the curtain on what's broken in the financial planning world—and how we're using Profit First, Infinite Banking, and AI tools to help business owners build wealth on their own terms. You'll discover: Why the conventional financial industry is designed to extract money from entrepreneurs, not empower them The difference between saving for retirement and building actual liquidity (and why it matters more than you think) How we combine Profit First and Infinite Banking to give business owners control over their cash flow AND their wealth-building The AI tools we built to help clients understand their "financial nervous system" before they ever talk to us Why we stopped explaining what we do and started letting people experience it instead Key Quote: "The financial industry is designed to move your money to Wall Street. We're designed to help you build a healthy, profitable business first—and then build wealth from that foundation." This episode is for business owners who've felt like the conventional financial advice never quite fit. If you've ever thought, "There has to be a better way" … there is. And we're showing you how. When the Beans Run Dry: How a Coffee Shop Taught Us the Truth About Money

What happens when your dream business nearly destroys you, and then teaches you everything you needed to know about money?   We don't usually talk about this. The early days. The subway rides hauling coffee beans across Chicago. The polar vortex brought us to the edge of bankruptcy. The moment we realized we'd been doing money completely wrong.   But Perry asked us to get real. So we did.   In Part 1 of this two-part conversation, we're pulling back the curtain on our entrepreneurial journey, from bootstrapping a coffee shop with zero financial backing to discovering the principles that would eventually reshape how we help business owners build wealth.   You'll hear: Why we delivered coffee beans on the subway before our shop even opened (and what that taught us about building a business with no money) The brutal wake-up call that came during a Chicago polar vortex—and the single lesson that saved everything What our financial planner told us contradicted everything we thought we knew about "saving for retirement." The three things every entrepreneur needs to survive (hint: passion isn't enough) Why we were told we were "too entrepreneurial" to get hired and how that rejection became our biggest opportunity   Key Quote: "We were naive about how hard it would be. But that naivety is also what kept us going when smarter people would have quit."   This isn't a polished success story. It's the real version—the good, the bad, and the ramen. If you've ever wondered whether you're cut out for this entrepreneur thing, or if you're doing money all wrong, this one's for you.   Coming next week: Part 2 dives into what's broken in the financial planning world and how we're using Profit First, Infinite Banking, and AI to help business owners build wealth differently.   Resources mentioned: Find Your Flow Quiz — 10 questions to discover your financial personality Financial Nervous System Diagnostic — A deeper 54-question assessment Get more info about Perry Marshall's Roundtable here. 795 - Can You Really Get Paid to Connect People? A Conversation with Kevin Thompson

The Cliff Ravenscraft Show - Mindset Answer Man

Play Episode Listen Later Oct 7, 2025 60:53

In this episode, I sit down with Kevin Thompson, a man who has built an extraordinary business around something most people only do out of kindness: connecting others. I've met plenty of people over the years who are natural connectors. They love introducing friends, clients, and peers to each other. Those introductions often lead to life-changing opportunities. But Kevin is the first person I've met who figured out how to turn that gift into a sustainable business model. Kevin's story begins with more than a decade in the publishing world, where he grew his company through over 600 strategic partnerships. Along the way, he discovered how much joy he found in helping people meet and collaborate. For years, he did it freely, simply because it felt good to serve. But one introduction in particular, connecting marketing legends Perry Marshall and Brian Kurtz, planted a powerful seed. That connection eventually led to a multimillion-dollar event, and when Kevin was publicly recognized for being the bridge that made it all possible, he began wondering: What if I could make a living just doing this? For a long time, he battled with the ethics of charging for introductions. Friends even told him it wasn't something that anyone should even consider. But in 2017, a single conversation changed everything. A friend suggested he host a small, in-person gathering of the entrepreneurs he knew. Kevin couldn't sleep that night. By 4:30 the next morning, he was making a list of everyone he wanted to invite. His enthusiasm was contagious. His wife offered to handle catering, and the first six entrepreneurs he spoke to said, “I'm in.” That August, Kevin hosted his first event at his home in Arlington, Washington, with 15 attendees who each paid $5,000 to be there. They spent time sharing openly, collaborating deeply, and forming meaningful relationships that continued long after the event ended. A month later, he hosted another group, and it filled just as quickly. What began as a simple idea soon became a thriving business. From there, Kevin developed an ongoing model, first through one-on-one connection work and later through group experiences that aligned more naturally with his gifts. Today, he helps entrepreneurs create five-, six-, and seven-figure business opportunities through authentic relationship-building, often earning revenue shares from the connections he facilitates. Throughout this conversation, Kevin and I explore not only how he did it, but the deeper mindset that made it possible, the excitement, confidence, and belief that magnetized people toward his vision. You'll hear how he overcame doubt, learned from missteps, refined his structure, and ultimately built a business that's as fulfilling as it is profitable. Insights Gained from This Episode The surprising way one powerful introduction can change the trajectory of your business and someone else's. Why enthusiasm, confidence and conviction often matter more than a polished business plan when sharing a new idea. How imposter syndrome keeps many people from seeing the true value they already bring to others. The mindset shift from “I shouldn't charge for this” to “People are happy to pay for the value I create.” The simple structure behind Kevin's first $5,000-per-person event and why intimacy and authenticity mattered more than luxury or production. How to test new business ideas through real conversations before locking yourself into a plan. What Kevin learned from early business models that didn't work, and how he redesigned them to fit his natural strengths. The importance of alignment: when the structure of your business supports the way you actually like to show up, everything flows easier. How relationships, built with integrity and generosity, can create long-term, recurring income. The power of turning what you naturally love to do into something that sustains your life, your purpose, and the people you serve. What if the secret to skyrocketing your sales had nothing to do with tactics and everything to do with trust?  In this episode, Kevin Thompson sits down with Ari Galper, the world's number one authority on trust-based selling and founder of the Unlock The Game methodology. Ari shares a powerful, real-life story of betrayal during a sales meeting that transformed his approach and led to the creation of a heart-centered sales movement focused on trust, not pressure. For over 20 years, Ari has helped coaches, consultants, and entrepreneurs eliminate rejection and stop chasing prospects by building trust from the very first conversation.  Ari is the author of seven best-selling books and a recognized thought leader featured in CEO Magazine, Forbes, Inc., and Financial Advisor Magazine. He is also the CEO and founder of AriAI, a 24/7 trust-based selling growth partner that acts as a “third brain” in your business, embedding trust into every conversation and decision. In this episode, Ari also honors his son Toby, who has Down Syndrome, as the inspiration behind his heart-first philosophy that's reshaping how business is done.   [00:00 - 02:30] The Origin Story: From Betrayal to Breakthrough • Ari recounts a sales call 20 years ago where, after accidentally hitting mute, he overheard prospects say, “Keep using him for more info, then buy cheaper.” • This moment exposed a fundamental dysfunction in selling and launched his mission to transform the sales process into one focused on truth and trust. [02:31 - 06:30] What Trust-Based Selling Means • Ari describes creating Unlock The Game, a trust-based selling approach that flipped traditional sales on its head. • Explains why ghosting happens, not because of the solution but because people don't trust your process. • Highlights that chasing prospects is a symptom of lacking trust. [06:31 - 12:00] Language That Builds Trust, Not Pressure • Why you should never use the word “follow-up.” • Replace it with, “Do you have any feedback on our last conversation?” • Shows how language either pressures people or invites the truth, changing the entire dynamic of the relationship. [12:01 - 18:30] Shifting from Pitching to Diagnosing • Ari unpacks his Doctor Framework, telling you to stop rapport-building chatter and start by exploring their problems deeply. • Offers questions like, “How long has this been a concern for you?” and “What have you done so far to address this?” • Emphasizes that trust is built when they feel truly understood, not when you start prescribing solutions. [18:31 - 24:30] Real Results: Why Trust Works • Ari shares examples from clients in high-ticket, long sales cycle industries who stopped chasing and started closing quickly. • Explains how leading with trust gets people to say, “How can you help me?” which flips the traditional sales script. [24:31 - 33:48] Honoring Influences and Lessons from Toby • Ari honors Dan Kennedy and Perry Marshall for shaping his understanding of marketing and systems. • Opens up about his son Toby, who has Down Syndrome, and how Toby taught him to be present, love without agenda, and lead with empathy. • “People don't want your pitch. They want to know if they can trust you.” Key Quotes “The goal is not the sale. The goal is the truth.” — Ari Galper “People don't ghost you because of your price. They ghost you because they don't trust you.” — Ari Galper “Stop delivering value before you're paid. Stop selling.
