Five Money Making Activities at BNI What if I told you that there is a formula to chapter and member success? BNI Executive Director and CRO (Chief Referral Officer), Cys Bronner, knows that in BNI we know which activities to rinse and repeat for success, both for the member and the chapter. These activities are not difficult or new, but each of the 5 are truly money-making activities.BNI4Success Podcasts The Voice of BNI Greater Los Angeles; Where we'll talk about referral networking that works!http://bnipodcast4success.com
Grow Your Community, Grow your Network Each week at BNI4Success, we'll talk about referral networking networks. We'll discuss networking tips, strategies and action steps that are designed to help entrepreneurs and businesses work together to create quality referral business and explore new opportunities. Hi, I'm Cys Bronner, Executive Director of BNI4Success, BNI's Greater Los Angeles regions and today's topic is Grow Your Community, Grow your Network.Networking is a contact sport! Whoa – that sounds pretty aggressive, doesn't it? But it came from Dr. Ivan Misner himself, so it must be true, right? And it is – it's all in the way you hear it and the way you apply it. For me, it's taking off the bib and putting on the apron – and no, that doesn't mean being a housewife and cleaning up after people, it means getting involved. Effective networking begins in the community. We have BNI community all around us, we call them chapters. But that is finite – we want MORE don't we? We want to expand our networks; we want it all. First you have to be visible in the greater community around you. You have to get out there and connect with people – what better way to plant those seeds, to be a farmer instead of a hunter than by giving. As business leaders in the community, we have a responsibility to give back, to give to organizations like the ones we have here at our power breakfast with us. Give – it's so much a part of who we are in BNI that's it's our main philosophy, in fact you can all say it with me. Our main philosophy, Giver's Gain. The grass isn't greener where you plant it, the grass is greener where you water it. I have an assignment for everyone here today.Assignment: Your assignment today involves identifying two local events or community initiatives that align with your chapter's values and objectives. Or your business's values and objectives. Make a plan for your chapter members to attend, to participate, or even sponsor these events. It could be a local charity run, a business fair, or a community clean-up.Create a strategy to leverage social media to showcase your chapter's involvement in these events. Capture photos, share stories, engage with the community online. Use platforms like LinkedIn, Facebook, and Twitter to not only document your participation but also to connect with other businesses and potential referral partners.Get up, get creative, and get involved in your community. Your business can help make the world a little bit better!Remember, the key is to authentically integrate your BNI chapter into the community, establishing it as a valuable and contributing member. That not only enhances your chapter's reputation but also opens up new networking opportunities within the local business landscape.Get out there, get involved, and watch yourself AND your BNI chapter flourish! Thanks for joining us this week on BNI podcasts 4 success. The Positively Remarkable Forum with Guest, Hema Mathew - Podcast 49 Hema Mathew CEO & Creative Director Bijhem DevOps Positivity ServantTranscript Cys Bronner: I'm Cys Bronner. I have the honor of being your co-host today. I am not just a BNI person, which I enjoy immensely as an Executive Director here in BNI Greater Los Angeles, but I don't know if you've ever noticed, my title here is Gratitude Evangelist, which I have been for more years. Then I can count and when I met Norm Dominguez who hosts here usually, I was also a Gratitude Evangelist and through the years and carrying on this relationship, I'm honored to be here with all of you as that to thank you so much and I'm excited to get started today. But here's the moment I've been waiting for. And that is our guest today is Hema Matthew. I know her through a chance meeting in my BNI world. She is the CEO and Creative Director of Bijhem DevOps. She's also a positivity servant. I would love to go on and on about her, but I'm not going to. As much as she touches my heart and is probably my new favorite top positivity people in the group that I know. I want you to meet her and have her speak to her and her topic today is Show That You Care. Hema Mathew: Thank you, Cys, for such a warm welcome and introduction. I just adore you. So, thank you. Thank you, Norm, for having me. I am just honored to be here among other positive servants. You all are fantastic, and I feel like I've missed out all these years not knowing you all. So I'm so happy to be here. So, my name is Hema Mathew. I'm the CEO and the Creative Director of Bijhem DevOps. I have a business here in San Antonio. We do web development, digital marketing and mobile apps, web apps. We help small businesses get online presence and grow and scale. So that's what we do. So, a little bit about me. I was born in India. I was raised there in Chennai till I was about 10. And then my dad started his university here in Oklahoma and was doing his MBA. So, he just moved the entire family over here. So, from then we've been in Oklahoma. And I went to school at the University of Oklahoma, and I met my husband there at the tender age of 18 on the very first day of college, in the very first class. And he was this talkative guy and just extremely serious. He was a chemical engineering major, so extremely smart. We just hit it off right away. And we've been, we dated for 10 years and then we got married, and we've been married for 24 years, and he got recruited to the University of Texas here in San Antonio because they were trying to take small business ideas and take it to the market. And literally they've been looking for someone. To just come and help them do that. And they were looking for two to three years and anyway, they tracked him down in DC, so they made him an offer. So, we moved here, and it's been a blessing for our family. We love it in San Antonio. I love the city. I love the state of Texas. We had three small kids. No, not small anymore but see sweet kids. Our oldest is 20 and he's studying biomedical engineering. He's hoping to go into medicine. He wants to be a surgeon so and he's one positive guy. So, I I would love for him to join us one of these days because he's so positive about health about God and. And just inspires everybody around him. So, he's studying biomedical. Hullo, I'm Cys Bronner, BNI Executive Director, CRO and the Constant Social Media Networker. We all know that events are the life blood of any organization, but do we know the power of those events and trainings can have in a BNI Chapter?Today, I'm going to share with you how you can play your role as Events/Training/PR Coordinator of your BNI chapter. To you and the professionals in your business unit, this role is incredibly important and critical.Do you believe that leaders are learners? Yes, or no?That's the reason in BNI we have close to some 15 to 20 varieties of short mini workshops and trainings. We are continuously helping our members to understand their business. They understand how to even explain their business to their fellow members so that they can generate lots of referrals. That, right there, is the reason every chapter has a very important coordinator called the Events/Training/PR Coordinator. If you this is your role as a BNI Coordinator, or your vision for next steps as a Leader, I've some suggestions for you that have come from various sources, including an amazing BNI Leader, Murali Sundaram of BNI Chennai.Let's talk about some simple ideas today and see which you can implement, helping all your members to attend trainings. We know that it's important that every member including the new members attend BNI's Member Success Program within the first thirty to sixty days of Membership or renewing membership. So please, start tracking your members whether they have attended MSP within the first critical days of starting their membership journey and keeping it fresh throughout. After that, it's a sure win for everyone, if every member of your chapter attends at least one program session every quarter. That's forward motion! Every quarter at least one training. But Murali's excellent suggestion and recommendation are this: “Can we encourage our members to attend at least one workshop or a training at least once in 60 days?” You know what? I think we can, in fact, I've seen those members who are dedicated to making their membership work to their maximum ROI are the same ones who are already doing this. There are at least six different workshops members can attend in a year (every 60 days) – there's actually more, if you really want. Which means, what we can do is very simple. Check out your regional calendar, talk to your Chapter President, your Chapter Leadership, or your Director Consultant. Having an excel spreadsheet with all the members name and all the varieties of workshops, member development, events and training programs at the top is fabulous, and all you need do, is maintain and work with it. In fact, we are so committed to making this easy for our members that our regional team is working together to provide this to each chapter in the next few weeks with information for the upcoming year. With that, you can have a clear track record of which member attended which workshop on what day. That also helps you to talk to specific members and tell them, hey, you know, three months before you have attended a Success Program or Workshop, can you register for the next upcoming session? That's number one. Number two, talk to your Chapter Support Director or even the Regional Training Team. In our region, we have for you the current term's event and training calendar in a tracking document to help you know what the various trainings are that's going to happen every month before it happens. With this, you can start marketing the training in your chapter meeting. Our training team will help support you with a script for leveling up your marketing of every training progrBNI4Success Podcasts The Voice of BNI Greater Los Angeles; Where we'll talk about referral networking that works!http://bnipodcast4success.com

Each week at BNI4Success, we'll talk about referral networking networks. We'll discuss networking tips, strategies and action steps that are designed to help entrepreneurs and businesses work together to create quality referral business and explore new opportunities. Welcome to this month's BNI Decoded. It's been a fabulous first week of September for us so far. Before we get into to our topic today, which is “Does Size Matter?” I want to talk a little bit about the format of BNI Decoded. It is kind of a conversational thing. Whichever Director is staring in this, which today it's me, I'm Cys Bronner, I'm the Executive Director for BNI Greater Los Angeles Regions. Whichever Director we have will talk to us a little bit about a topic and then we kind of get the room going on it. This session is designed to be 30 minutes to 45 minutes. We have a hard stop at 45.We tend to get a little excited and go over, and today I really want to commit to having it be a shorter run because that's part of running a successful meeting, isn't it? Starting and stopping on time. Out here in LA on this fabulous Thursday, I had an opportunity to present this same topic with one of my favorite chapters and I have to admit I came back and I then Google the same topic afterwards and I found out that in BNI New Zealand - which is more than four steps away from LA, right? - we had another Director who was working with the chapter, Nikki Gunning, and she had almost the same things to say. It was so incredible to see this. So, you know, we are different in our personalities and our professions, but business issues and what we're tackling are kind of the same worldwide, aren't they? And you know, she had a chapter that was very strong at the end of last year. And you know, this chapter I was working with was very, very strong too. And the conversation that that we had really brings home how size matters. We started our new year with this chapter going our first chapter back in person - all of our chapters here in Los Angeles have been slow to restart and some of them are just becoming hybrid. Some of them are still online and this is the only one that's fully in person and we lost in a huge swoop 19 members. But what really struck me about these people today is these are these members that are left are a very excellent dedicated Corp. They're not just dedicated in the fact of, “oh, I love BNI, and I love my people and I want to have breakfast with them”, but they're dedicated in their respect of having a meeting of excellence, and to me - and I think you might agree - that's pretty darn important, right? So, in talking to these people and working with them, it becomes really inspirational. You know, when you have everybody who wants to be there, and everyone participating wants a fun and professional meeting it really kind of reinvigorates you, when the visitors come, you know the conversion rate begins to be high, even though there's small group, right? And I love it. And so, I want you, everybody who's listening to this on the podcast, or who's ever here today wants you to take this into consideration when I ask you If size matters?I think our first step really is to dream big. Because results go with goals, don't they? Way back in the beginning of my time in BNI, I as a member, shall I share that with you? I joined BNI in 1997. You know what? I don't even have kids that are. Well, I do have kids that were around, actually. 1997 was some time ago and we had a chapter that was also kind of ebbing and flowing in its numbers and it went from 26, it went down to 17, it went back up and there was a conversation of where we could end early. Cys Bronner, BNI Executive Director, CRO and THE Constant Social Media Networker, discusses #BNI Core Value – GIVERS GAIN®We give because we understand that in a community, what we do, others will do, and we all benefit.Transcript:Hi, I'm Cys Bronner, BNI Executive Director for BNI's Greater Los Angeles regions, BNI4Success. Today, I want to talk about BNI's Core Value #1 – GIVERS GAIN®It should be no surprise that our first Core Value, is also the driving philosophy of BNI. Over time, I've learned that Givers Gain® can mean many things to many different people. But ultimately, it's based on the age-old philosophy of “What goes around, comes around”. In my mind, it's more than a reciprocal tit-for-tat statement. It is how we lift up others around us. It's the philosophy of sharing the gratitude of abundance with our business partners. It's the benefit that even the smallest farmer knows, the garden grows best when the seeds are pollenated. When I look at our 7 Core Values, I also see that it's the strength within some of the others, like Building Relationships and even Accountability. Givers Gain® isn't just a throw away motto, it's a part of BNI's DNA. Everyone all levels understands that this is organizations guiding core value, and that's a pretty incredible thing to be a part of, isn't it? If you're looking to gain more insights into BNI and really bring the most results to your chapter and business, let me be a part of your network. Subscribe or follow BNIpodcast4success.com I'm looking forward to hearing how Givers Gain® is woven into your life. Have you ever heard the phrase, “It takes a village”? You most likely have and know that in BNI, it takes a team of business professionals to provide a warm, welcoming, and positive referral environment. I'm Cys Bronner, Executive Director for BNI's Greater Los Angeles regions, BNI4Success, and today, I'm going to share with you just one of our important coordinator roles for every BNI chapter, the Visitor Host Coordinator As members, we know that there's a whole lot going on to help us get the most success from our membership, but did you know that there's a whole lot more going on to help you become members? Most likely not, you were busy receiving the best Visitor Experience you could. I know this because if you didn't have a positive Visitor Experience, you would not have moved on to your next step – the Member Experience. So, let's take a look at how it all happened….· You registered in advance to attend a meeting.· There was a Visitor Host Greeter at the meeting to welcome you in person or online.· There was also a Visitor Host – might even be the same one – who introduced you to others, helped you get settled, and made sure that you knew what was going on during the meeting. · Then, near the end of the meeting, the Chapter President invited you to spend some time with the Visitor Host Orientation Specialist (we call that role the “Closer”) who answered any questions, gave you information about the things you should know but didn't ask, and invited you to apply for membership consideration. · After all that, you got some good old-fashioned follow up by phone, text, email, What's App, whatever from the aptly named Visitor Host Follow Up Specialist. Whew! That's a lot of gears in the machine, isn't it? It is! But what you didn't see is that there is a very important team leader making sure it all takes place and hums along the track for you. Of course, it's the Visitor Host Coordinator. Like all of our BNI Coordinators, they oversee and guide that team towards successful completion of the various aspects in their specialized team or unit. Without them, you would lose the liaison to the leadership team or worse your Visitors - your potential referral partners – wouldn't have anyone ensuring that the Visitor Host Team works together efficiently. In our region we have something called “Monday Communications”, it's a great way to start the week for our chapter with each team leader, including the Visitor Host Coordinator, and touch base by email, BNI Online™, in person or phone. Personally, I think using the BNI Online™ meeting room is the most efficient, but I also think the best method is the one that you'll use. This way the Visitor Host Coordinator can find out the status of the follow up, discuss what's been working and what hasn't with the greeters, update any Greeter Chat Host quick notes or ask about Visitors being put into BNI Connect AND a little due diligence conversation about the guests who may have already registered. – Remember to pass that info on to the leadership as well. Btw, that meeting is an important one to find out if a team member will be out and decide how you'll shift a little so that every visitor to your chapter is still getting the best Visitor Experience ever! I always like to ask if a Visitor was given an application (online or otherwise) and how that conversation went. more at: http://bnipodcast4success.com/2023/03/04/the-visitor-host-coordinator-podcast-39/BNI4Success Podcasts The Voice of BNI Greater Los Angeles; Where we'll talk about referral networking that works!http://bnipodcast4success.com
(Thank you to Murali Sundaram, Executive Director, BNI Chennai for his inspiration)Have you heard the management principle what gets measured gets done?Absolutely true. In business world we need to measure and monitor all our activities thereby we will know whether we are moving in the right directionI'm Cys Bronner, Executive Director for BNI's Greater Los Angeles regions and today, I'm going to share with you one important coordinator role for every chapter called the Go Green Coordinator The Go Green Coordinator is vital for the success of every member because we all come together, and we help each other in participating in various BNI chapter activities Another job as The Go Green Coordinator is to tell all our members whether all of us are putting our efforts in the right direction - that's the reason in BNI we have created a system called traffic light system, like the traffic light has a green amber and red.In BNI we have created a very interesting Benchmark or measurement system based on traffic lights called The Power of One Report. This terrific tool tells all the members whether we are going in the right directionIf you are The Go Green Coordinator for your chapter (or maybe being considered for that role,) let me share with you what are the things that you can do before the meeting during the meeting and even after the meeting because only when you are very clear on your particular role you can actually help other members also to perform at the best possible way Number one is every month your regional office will be sharing the Traffic Light style colors in the Power of One Report of all the members. You'll want to talk to your chapter Leadership. your president will share this with you or they will ask the Regional Office to add you to the distribution list. Before the meeting get the entire data of all the members what are their scores, where are they right now. Any member more than 70 points they are in the green! Members who are between 50 to 70 are amber, or yellow if you prefer. 30 to 50 points places your referral partner in the red As those chapter members who have accumulated less than 30 based on their activities, they become Gray members Remember that, you know it's very important that once you get that report to communicate to the Mentor Coordinator and of course, individually to every member either via phone e-mail WhatsApp whichever is convenient to you maybe explain the members why becoming green is really important you know why green is important you know because if you are a green member above 70% - 70 points it means you are highly contributing member - when you contribute you actually enhance your visibility and thereby enhance your credibility you are telling every member in the chapter that you are a more responsible member ready to understand everyone's business and ready to contribute Remember our Givers Gain philosophy So being a green member is one way of exhibiting your givers gain principle to the entire chapter So maybe as a go green coordinator you have to explain the benefits of why every member must become green thereby, they can enhance their visibility and credibility and also their profitability So, talk to members. If some members are struggling to become green maybe you can break down the entire report and tell them “You know, this month just focus on adding five more points” Don't give them big numbers, give them only +5 points to add up in their score and motivate them as they move forward. You can even give them one activity to help make that happen. I absolutely adore seeing everybody all dressed up whether it's spooky or cutesy, big or small, I have the opportunity to open the door and share some goodness with them, stickers or sweets, smile and wave and wait for the next one. Thanksgiving is another one to share my table with the people around me that I love and are close to my heart is just as amazing and giving as helping to feed our community. Then December, wow December, in our home as in many there's a frenzy of decorating and gifting and feeding and gift wrapping and so many, many, things that I just can't even begin to list like holiday parties and mixers and business get togethers, all the way through to New Year's Day. In fact, the more I look at this month by month the more I realize that August is the only month on the calendar without a holiday that I am personally aware of, but I usually take the first week of August off to do some type of community gifting so it's not just December is it? Many businesses slow down during the holidays, while others struggle to reach those year-end numbers. But what do they have in common? Existing business relationships! One thing I see that many businesses or entrepreneurs do is take their current business relationships and set them aside saying “oh let's get together or meet after the holidays are over”. I even see our BNI chapters stop meeting for several weeks during this time of year - it happens during the summer too - and it just boggles my mind. If these are the businesspeople that I've worked so hard and close with during the other times why would I meet with them less and basically close the door to my business with them?It reminds me of a story Dr. Ivan Misner once told, about how a chapter didn't believe that meeting weekly was really necessary, so they asked if they could try meeting every other week for 6 months and test it out. After 3 months, the chapter President told Dr Misner that the referrals had dropped by 50% and would like to return to meeting weekly. So, there you have it, if you want more referrals, meet more often! 4 Ways to Make the Most Out of the Holiday Season 1. Keep your usual business commitments and meetings on calendar – don't disappear for 2 months! 2. Still swamped? Set up a planned meeting for after the holiday. Reach out to at least 4 people (1 for each week of January!) you've been meaning to catch up with.3. Is it a slower time of year for you? Host a Holiday Coffee & Cocoa morning at your office for your network and their business friends too. 4. Set aside time to reassess your goals for the coming year. Make adjustments to your schedule, if your January pipeline isn't up to the goals you set. Thank you so much for being a part of today's session. I look forward to hearing from you in the comments about how your holiday and other times of the year went!BNI4Success Podcasts The Voice of BNI Greater Los Angeles; Where we'll talk about referral networking that works!http://bnipodcast4success.com
Relationships are important in business. You work hard to create them, are you keeping them too? Cys Bronner, BNI Executive Director, CRO and THE Constant Social Media Networker wants to share networking with a mindset of Givers Gain and positive steps to make sure that you are not unintentionally letting your business relationships “fall through the cracks”. Transcript: Hullo, I'm Cys Bronner, BNI Executive Director and THE Constant Social Media Networker and it's important to me to introduce myself to you that way since our topic deals with a little bit of the old, and the new. Sometimes our new way of doing things make way for ignoring our older and more traditional ways, and it's not always by choice. On many occasions, it's as simple as allowing things to “fall through the cracks”. There's been a lot of talk on the internet and in our organization about “Benign Neglect” let's look at that. Dr. Ivan Misner describes Benign Neglect as “taking many forms. It's any decision you deliberately or unconsciously make that allows a person in your sphere (or an activity associated with that person) to move towards the back, which in turn allows someone else to step a little bit closer to you.I've been talking to a lot of people in the last 2 weeks about how to avoid this and really build our relationships. I've been asking them what it is they do to build their business relationships particularly during a busy, busy, time of year and the response I get predominantly is my CRM does it, my social media posts are automated, I send out birthday cards through my CRM I think we've lost some old marketing mechanisms or terms as well as what relationship really means in CRM so 1st let's define CRMCustomer relationship management (CRM) is a technology for managing all your company's relationships and interactions with customers and potential customersSo, it's a software, or tool. If you are using your CRM merely to send out automated items like cards or posts on your social media what you're doing is institutional advertising – and that's great, institutional advertising certainly has its place, and I would keep doing it. You're not you're NOT, building a relationship. I know you're saying oh that's very old school you don't know what you're talking about everybody's doing social media and I'm going to say you're right everyone is I do it but what makes you stand out? What creates that business relationship? It's what you do between and around the items that promote you and your brand. There are so many different mechanisms to make your business strong and if you just focus on one, you're most likely missing relationship opportunities. I'm going to suggest just one way to use your CRM to really make it a Customer RELATIONSHIP Manager, to get the most out of what you are already using it for and create the deeper business you want. 1. Take a good look at everyone in your contact list.2. Select the people you know or wish you knew better3. Use to CRM to create a “tickler” 4 months prior to the annual birthday or other outreach to the individual, then block out 30 minutes on your calendar weekly for each of these. 4. During your scheduled 30 minutes each week, reach out to the contact by phone, postcard, email, or any method that requires your personal touch to let them know they are on your mind. After a while those 30 minutes will move from one person a week to 2 in that same time frame, because you are more comfortable with it. Mike joined BNI, as a member in 2010 after being invited to a startup meeting by complete stranger. He planned to use BNI to market and grow his handyman construction business, after taking all of the advanced training courses offered in his region, Mike was able to stop almost all other forms of advertising. BNI was accounting for most of his new business in 2012.Mike joined the regional team as a Director Consultant, supporting four chapters. This is where Mike discovered a new passion called BNI. Through seven years of BNI membership, he generated over $1 million dollars in referrals for other BNI members and he received over 1 million in closed business from the referrals he received through BNI alone.Today Mike is living his passion, as the Executive Director for the BNI Founding Region, and he supports over 375 members from Pasadena to Rancho Cucamonga. Ladies and Gentlemen, Mr Mike Adray!

Tired of Begging Your Chapter to Invite?Cys Bronner, BNI Executive Director is here to say “Stop Yelling, Start Growing”. By focusing on what's working and using the tools at hand, your membership will naturally increase in happiness and members, creating more referrals for everyone. Transcript: Stop Yelling, Start GrowingHi, I'm Cys Bronner, Executive Director of BNI4Success in the Greater Los Angeles area and earlier this week I was remembering something BNI Executive Director Patti Salvucci once said “Chapters under 20 drive me crazy, because they don't know how great they are. If they knew how great there are, they would be telling everyone!” I think understanding how great we are is more important than anything we do towards inviting potential members into the group. Instead of yelling, “Ya gotta invite, ya gotta invite!” we need to both become and acknowledge that the chapter is great. So how do we get great? That's the question isn't it? It's easy to answer when you understand the tools at hand. But understanding the tools – which are a variety of reports – isn't the activity; it's the measurement of your activities. OMG, Cys – you are confusing us! Our real goal is to build a healthy chapter – one that is strong from the ground up, with every member working together towards each other's success. Once you have that, you have the culture of knowing how great you are and wanting to share that. “Individual commitment to a group effort – that is what makes a team work, a company work, a society work, a civilization work.” Vince LombardiWhen you talk about the individuals creating a group effort, you really need an overview to see how and where that is happening Reports I like to work with: · Chapter Traffic Lights· Power of One Report· (and of course) PALMS· Sponsor ReportMy favorite overview to start with is our chapter traffic lights. It's just one of our tools that highlights the group's benchmarks giving you a snap shot of what is working. Too many chapters think that it is a report to show where they rank among other chapters and don't really pay attention to how they got to where they are placed in the report. Every chapter has the ability to sit in the green at 100 points (actually you can get there at 80 points) so what does it take? Let's look at the categories – they are very similar to our members Power of One report – we have:· Chapter Size · Chapter Growth· Retention · Referrals· Visitors · Conversion · Absenteeism What's Working? What I look for first is the areas where the chapter is excelling; in other words what's working. This isn't just about letting a chapter know where they are succeeding, but it's also a step towards chapter growth. Once you know what's working and then move towards the next thing that is doing well or on an upwards climb, other areas seem to naturally shift into place. Think about it, if you're hitting all your benchmarks, you are definitely firing on all cylinders and you'll have a larger, stronger chapter for it. Where it can be deceptive is your retention, and this can trip some chapters up. On occasion I see chapters that are so worried about their chapter size, that they pass on empowering the Membership Committee to be good gardeners – nurturing and pruning as they go along – cre
Are You Showing Up? Podcast 20BNIPodcast4Success.com You've heard that 80% of life is just showing up? BNI Executive Director and CRO (Chief Referral Officer), Cys Bronner, asks the question “Are You Showing Up?” and more importantly “How are you showing up?”. Knowing the answers to these questions can make all the difference in your business profitability, referability and let's face it – reputation. Are You Showing Up? Hi, I'm Cys Bronner, Executive Director of BNI's Greater Los Angeles regions, BNI4Success. As I thought about this topic I wondered if I should talk about how you show up in your business or how you show up in BNI – the answer I came up with is “yes”. You see, how you show up to your BNI fellow brethren IS how you show up in your business. Most BNI members feel that VCP means that Visibility+ Credibility = Profitability. When in reality, it leads to Profitability only IF your Visibility is more than being on someone's radar. It's how you are visible to others. We need to remember that our BNI meeting is a weekly business meeting. How you show up matters. Being a part of that business unit is where your potential referral partners see you and that builds trust. I know you might be thinking “But Cys, these people see me every week. They hear me talk about my business and current activities in my industry. They know that I am good at what I do. The trust should be there.” Think about this for a moment. Humor me, please and think a little more about what I am about to say… “These people” as we just put it, do not follow you around each, and every day. I would venture to say that they do not have an opportunity to follow you to your client meetings, sit in on your court cases, climb the ladder and watch the care you take as a roofer. They just don't know that side of you and your business. What they do see is how you show up as a BNI member. Both at your meetings and behind the scenes. So, let's talk about that…Professional Appearance Whether you are online or in a more traditional face to face setting, your appearance says a great deal about you. Does your appearance show that you care? Look, we've spent almost a year and a half working in various modes, online, offline, combination of sorts – but one thing holds true – we're working. And we're doing this among other people. If we want to make a good impression, let's start with our selves. Not too long ago, I had a meeting with another person who was considering leaving the organization by not renewing her membership. I didn't know this when I reached out to her, it was more geared towards just checking in with our members, my business partners really, and asking my favorite question “How can I help you?”. She told me the reason that she was thinking about leaving was that she wasn't getting the referrals that she needed (Btw, I could do a whole podcast on the difference between want and need). Her role as a high-level banker was to bring in the big fish. Sure, she had a few members bring their own accounts over and one introduction to a new account but nothing to write home about. After explaining this to me, she said that she felt that the group just wasn't high level enough for her and they would not bring her the referrals that were appropriate for her position. To be honest, and I'm a little embarrassed to admit this here, but I asked, “Why would they?”. She looked at me and said, “What do you mean?”. I took a deep breath and said something like: “look even I don't really have a long solid relationshi
