Guest Speaker Mary Jean Powers takes us back to a time of intense anticipation, to the epoch preceding Jesus' arrival when Israel's hope for the Messiah flickered in the darkness of political strife and occupation. We weave through history, uncovering the Israelites' steadfast observance of God's law and their fervent musings over John the Baptist's role in God's master plan. Ponder with us the extraordinary timing of the Roman occupation and how it set the stage for the incarnation of Christ, as Paul describes in Galatians, "when the time had fully come." It's a narrative that not only recounts the chronicles of yesteryears but also invigorates our current walk of faith, reminding us that divine timing is impeccable and always worth the wait. This sermon was recorded at a Sunday morning gathering at Church of the Lookout in Longmont, Colorado.Speaker — Mary Jean PowersVisit Our Website — https://thelookout.churchTake Your Next Step--- https://thelookout.church/connectConnect with Us --- https://thelookout.church/newGive to Support the Ministry --- https://thelookout.church/giveVisit our websiteFollow us on FacebookFollow us on Instagram

Dwight David Eisenhower was born in Denison, Texas on October 14, 1890, the third of seven sons of David and Ida Eisenhower. Not long after Dwight's birth, the family moved to Abilene, Kansas where he grew up. Dwight later attended West Point Military Academy, graduating in 1915 and soon after met Mamie Doud, who would become the love of his life. The two would be married for over fifty years. Eisenhower rose to fame during World War II as the Supreme Commander of the Allied Expeditionary Forces in Europe, leading the successful D-Day invasion that played a significant role in the defeat of Nazi Germany. In 1952, he was elected the 34th President of the United States. Eisenhower's presidency focused on improving the nation's infrastructure and was also marked by efforts to contain the spread of communism during the Cold War while maintaining peace and stability on the international stage. One of his initiatives, was the creation of the People to People International program, which he established in 1956 to improve understanding and friendship between citizens of different countries through educational, cultural and humanitarian activities. In this episode of Your History Your Story, we will be speaking with Mary Jean Eisenhower, youngest grandchild of Dwight and Mamie Eisenhower. Mary Jean will share her memories of playing as a child in the White House, spending personal moments with her grandparents and meeting World leaders such as French President, Charles de Gaulle and Premier of the Soviet Union, Nikita Khrushchev. Mary Jean will also tell how an encounter with Khrushchev's son, Sergei in the 1990's moved her to change careers in order to develop and expand People to People International, the program established by her grandfather. Leadership is often dominated by men, causing women to suffer from imposter syndrome and cultivate a scarcity mindset. Since they are often in harsh competition with one another, women find it hard to hone authentic leadership skills. Alicia Couri chats with Dr. Mary Jean Vignone on how women can make a tremendous shift in leadership to lessen conflicts for power and unleash their true selves. Dr. Mary explains how to use feminine energy the right way, speak their mind freely, and stop acting with too much bravado just to fit in. A Place For My Stuff - Yes I have/had another podcast. A couple of podcasts actually. With the rising price of everything, I opted not to pay to have Inside the Guest Studio available forever. I have this convenient landing spot called My Alien Life Podcast which WILL remain forever - thus, this is part of my life, as will be the episodes of Inside the Guest Studio. A podcast that is graced by some unique and very talented people that live slightly off the grid. Enjoy Cameron In 1982 I walked into a music store in Kalispell Montana and heard his hit Someday Some Way... I was hooked. From that day forward, the cassette I purchased before going to Bible camp, was in every car I ever owned until 2015. I mailed the cassette to my friend who had gotten out of drug treatment. We listened to that cassette so many times in my car during high school. The cassette arrived in his mailbox, SMASHED... I was crushed. It was my indeed pleasure to interview, Marshall Crenshaw. My hero. Marshall Howard Crenshaw (born November 11, 1953) is an American musician, singer, songwriter, and guitarist best known for hit songs such as "Someday, Someway," a US Top 40 hit in 1982, "Cynical Girl," and "Whenever You're on My Mind." He is also the co-author of one of the biggest radio hits of the ‘90s, the Gin Blossoms, "Til I Hear It From You." His music has roots in classic soul music and Buddy Holly, to whom Crenshaw was often compared in the early days of his career, and whom he portrayed in the 1987 film La Bamba. Born in Michigan, Crenshaw performed in the musical Beatlemania before releasing his self-titled album in 1982. Crenshaw could not replicate the commercial success of Marshall Crenshaw and follow-up Field Day (1983) with later albums. Crenshaw has also contributed songs to other artists, writing singles for Kirsty MacColl and the Gin Blossoms. A quote from Trouser Press summed up Marshall Crenshaw's early career: "Although he was seen as a latter-day Buddy Holly at the outset, he soon proved too talented and original to be anyone but himself."[ Marshall Crenshaw on Marshall Crenshaw — “One of the fundamental things about the project was that I set out to not make an album,” Marshall Crenshaw notes. “So I did this project, and now at the end of it, there's this album, for the album fans!….” The celebrated singer-songwriter-guitarist-producer is discussing #392: The EP Collection, his new CD on the Red River Entertainment label. The 14-track set collects a dozen standout tracks drawn from the innovative series of six 10” vinyl EPs that Crenshaw released between 2013 and 2015, plus a pair of never-before-heard rarities chosen especially for this collection. The EP series was the product of Crenshaw's decision to break away from the standard album/tour cycle by recording and releasing a steady stream of new music over an extended period. The endeavor proved wildly popular with his fans, and brought in lots of “I really did love the EP project, and I'm kind of sad that it's over,” Crenshaw comments. “I was looking for a different way of working that would keep me motivated; it was cool, because it had a sense of urgency; there was always something that had just come out and always something that was on the way. It was an inspiring way to work.” #392: The EP Collection's twelve studio recordings encompass six new Crenshaw originals and six cover songs. The former group includes the bittersweet and beautiful “Grab the Next Train,” the surging and howling “Move Now,” and the hypnotic and atmospheric “Driving and Dreaming”, while the cover numbers include a reverent remake of the Burt Bacharach/Hal David/Carpenters chestnut “Close to You,” James McMurtry's “Right Here Now,” longtime Crenshaw favorite Bobby Fuller's classic “Never to Be Forgotten” and vintage numbers by the Easybeats, the Move and the Lovin' Spoonful. Rounding out #392: The EP Collection are two previously unreleased tracks: a powerful live version of the Everly Brothers classic “Man with Money,” recorded with Crenshaw's frequent touring partners the Bottle Rockets, during the week after Phil Everly's passing, and the infectious “Front Page News,” a '90s recording of a previously-unheard original that Crenshaw wrote with noted country tunesmith Leroy Preston (“I can't remember when I did it, or why, but I like it!”, says Crenshaw). “I was fortunate to have lots of brilliant people helping me on these tracks, and they really lifted the proceedings,” Crenshaw reports. “I'm proud about the range of super-excellent musicians who came on board for these sessions.” #392: The EP Collection includes contributions from avant-jazz trumpet icon Stephen Bernstein, noted jazz vibraphonist Bryan Carrott, versatile Nashville bassist Byron House, Daniel Littleton of the band Ida, renowned composer/keyboardists Rob Morsberger and Jamie Saft, along with longstanding Crenshaw cohorts like guitarists Glen Burtnick and Andy York, bassist Graham Maby, Brian Wilson/Beach Boys sideman Jeffrey Foskett, and acclaimed indie troubadour Dan Bern, who co-wrote four songs with Crenshaw. Meanwhile, on several tracks, Crenshaw worked on his own in his home studio, overdubbing all or most of the instruments and vocal harmonies himself. Crenshaw states, “I've been into the Narcissist, solitary-genius thing for a long time. For instance, “‘Cynical Girl,' on my first album, is just me, and ‘Someday Someway' is my brother on drums and me on everything else. So working alone sometimes is standard procedure for Over the course of a recording career that's spanned three decades, 13 albums and hundreds of songs, the Michigan-bred artist's musical output has maintained a consistently high level of artistry, craftsmanship and passion, endearing him to a broad and loyal fan After getting an early break playing John Lennon in a touring company of the Broadway musical Beatlemania, Crenshaw began his recording career with the now-legendary indie single “Something's Gonna Happen.” His growing notoriety in his adopted hometown of New York City helped to win Crenshaw a deal with Warner Bros. Records, which released his self-titled 1982 debut album. That collection established Crenshaw as one of the era's preeminent rock ' n' rollers, and that was confirmed by such subsequent albums as Field Day, Downtown, Mary Jean & 9 Others, Good Evening, Life's Too Short, Miracle of Science, #447, What's in the Bag? and Jaggedland. Along the way, Crenshaw's compositions have been covered by a broad array of performers, including Bette Midler, Kelly Willis, Robert Gordon, Ronnie Spector, Marti Jones and the Gin Blossoms, with whom Crenshaw co-wrote the Top 10 single “Til I Hear It From You.” He's also provided music for several film soundtracks, appeared in the films La Bamba (in which he portrayed Buddy Holly) and Peggy Sue Got Married, and was nominated for Grammy and a Golden Globe awards for writing the title track for the film comedy Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story. Since 2011, Crenshaw has hosted his own radio show, The Bottomless Pit, on New York's WFUV. He's currently working on Martin Scorsese and Mick Jagger's much-anticipated HBO series Vinyl, doing “some session work, a little bit of songwriting..” His eclectic resume aside, songwriting and record-making remain at the center of Marshall Crenshaw's creative life, and #392: The EP Collection confirms that his musical flame continues to burn as brightly as ever. “I still love recorded music and believe in it as an art form, whether it's a single or album, or vinyl or CD,” Crenshaw asserts, adding, “I think I'll probably stick with it.”
Today I'm talking with Mary Jean Winn. Mary Jean grew up in northern Utah and has spent a lifetime she describes as not recognizing her own self-worth. She has 6 kids and 12 grandkids. Mary Jean is a business owner and a writer, and is starting a non-profit to help others find their own empowerment and identity.Being Silenced on Abuse Mary Jean shares that she's repressed the early parts of her childhood as a result of her abuse and has struggled to piece together how that early programming has affected the person she is today. She had a father who was physically abusive to her, her siblings, and her mother, and one of her earliest memories is of abuse witnessed at 9 years old. Throughout her childhood, Mary Jean didn't go to therapy and didn't speak about what was happening to her. People didn't talk about abuse. Physical discipline was more common, but the line between discipline and abuse was often in question. Everything was silent, according to Mary Jean, and no one ever came to help. In her opinion, the worst thing that someone can do while abuse is happening is to be silent. Speaking Her Truth As an adult, Mary Jean has found comfort in writing about her experiences. She has filing cabinets full of journals that she uses as a healing modality. Being in survival mode for the majority of her life, she found there was a lot for her to process.Mary Jean's book, “Lessons I Learned On a Dirt Road,” is a project 30 years in the making. The title was inspired by the clarity she feels while out in nature on a dirt road, where she feels the most grounded and closest to God. Although she struggled with the structure of the book, she hopes to begin the process of publishing in September. There is a need for her to tell her story. “You have your own roadmap,” she says and encourages listeners to make sure they're not following someone else's. Connecting People in NeedMary Jean's nonprofit “Building Connextions” aims to create an empowerment center for at-risk people. She calls it a connection center where people can learn how to find their voice and live their truth in a safe, comfortable environment. The nonprofit is in its early stages, but Mary Jean is excited about the amount of potential it has. Mary Jeans wants to be a guide for people who are struggling, helping them find their best path in life. She's in the process of putting together programs and growing the nonprofit into her dream, showing others how to live the life they've never lived before. Mary Jean hopes listeners know to never give up, even in their darkest moments. If they keep putting one foot in front of the other, eventually everything will pass. This is a lesson she has taught to her kids and herself. Listen in to hear more of Mary Jean's journey, why she decided to write her book, and what modalities she uses to stay on the right path in life. Welcome to Living Well with MS Coffee Break #16, where we are pleased to welcome Rick Nelson as our guest! Our Coffee Break series is your chance to get to know members of our diverse OMS community. In each episode, you’ll join Geoff Allix for an intimate chat with a different member of our global community. Our guests will share their personal stories and talk about their challenges and victories, large and small. We hope you find common cause and a source of inspiration from the stories of these very special people. As always, your comments and suggestions are always welcome by emailing podcast@overcomingms.org. We hope you enjoy this episode’s conversation with Rick, beaming to you straight from the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in the USA. Rick’s Story (in his own words) I am Rick Nelson. I live in Cherry Hill, New Jersey, in the United States. I’m married to Solange and am a father of three adult children – Anthony, Alice and Richard – and I’m very proud of all of them. My Aunt Mary Jean had MS. As a family we experienced her advancing disability through my teenage and early adult years, culminating in her death at an early age from MS-related causes. Mary Jean took everything that the medical establishment had to offer in those days, yet she missed out on many of life’s joys, and never met her grandchildren. A couple of decades later, in late 2004, I was diagnosed with MS. I dove into the research found and embraced the Swank Diet. I was persuaded by long-range study, conducted by Dr. Roy Swank commencing in 1948, which found that people with MS who consumed less than 20 grams of saturated fat per day essentially didn’t progress to disability over the more than three-decade course of the study. I was all in. Later, I came upon Dr. George Jelinek’s book, Overcoming Multiple Sclerosis. With a family history similar to mine plus his background as a physician and medical journal editor, I felt Dr. Jelinek incorporated extensive research to take Dr. Swank’s work to the next level. After devouring Dr. Jelinek’s book, I embraced the OMS Recovery Program. Leading a busy life with a demanding corporate job and family duties, I struggled with stress control. I was less than successful in embracing meditation, so a few years later I traveled to Melbourne, Australia and participated in the OMS retreat at Gawler Centre. At the retreat I came away deeply moved by the knowledge, care and selfless humanness demonstrated by Dr. Jelinek, Zig and other members of staff. It was my first time in a community of people with MS, and I came away impressed with the strength and the passion of the other participants. These were people who challenged the status quo. I have been an advocate for OMS ever since. OMS has been life-changing for me, it has provided hope, and allowed me to regain control of my health. The result has been many years of vitality and contribution to my family and community. Questions: Rick, our audience wants to know a little bit about you and your life. Can you share some background on where you’re from, what you do, any snippets of your family or personal life or anything about you that would give our listeners a sense of who Rick Nelson is? How about your experience with MS? Can you provide some context on that? When were you diagnosed and how did you initially cope with it? At which point did you come across the OMS program? How was that experience for you? Why did you decide to start following it? What are some of the challenges you’ve faced at first in adopting the OMS program? How did you overcome them? When did you first start to see any kind of positive indicators in following OMS guidelines? What were these? You’ve been a valuable contributor to the OMS community. For example, you established the OMS Circle in Philadelphia and serve as its ambassador. What’s that experience like? On a personal note, do you have any unusual interests or wacky hobbies you can tell us about? What kind of stuff will we find you doing on a weekend? You’re also a successful entrepreneur and management consultant. If you tap into that expertise for a nugget of wisdom that would help people ease into and better adopt the OMS program, what would that advice be? Rick’s Links: Check out Rick’s LinkedIn profile Check out the work Rick does to help entrepreneurs Coming up on our next episode: Tune in on May 12, 2021 for the second installment of Ask Jack, our special 5-part series where certified OMS foodie and professional chef Jack McNulty answers cooking- and food-related questions from you, our OMS community. The Total Tutor Neil Haley will interview Author Mary Jean Teachman. She will Discuss Her Son Forrest. This is my story about losing my son, Arthur Forrest Tull, when he was 37 years old to suicide. He had a troubled life from the time he was struck with bipolar disease at the age of 15, and then at the age of 18 he started to self medicate, which ultimately resulted in a drug addiction. After he left guilt hung around me like a dark cloud and I was in despair. I was fortunate to meet great healers along my journey. They held my hand and guided me through rocky waters to a sea of peace and happiness. My greatest influence, Renata Moore, reconnected me to my son and loved ones on the other side. I had conversations with them and received invaluable advice and tools on how to overcome the guilt, agony and ultimately to accept my loss. I know now that I didn't lose my son, he resides in my heart and on the other side. He changed from a physical to a spiritual son. After the suicide of my son, Forrest, I needed to change the rhythm of my life in order to escape the grief and despair. I proceeded on a spiritual path that eventually led to peace and happiness. My journey is chronicled in my book. http://maryjeanteachman.com/son-forrst-left-planet/ www.maryjeanteachman.com
