Cientos de miles de godos, empujados por la irrupción violenta de los hunos desde las estepas euroasiáticas, piden asilo al Imperio. No llegan como conquistadores, sino como refugiados desesperados que buscan sobrevivir. Roma acepta su entrada… pero la corrupción, la incompetencia y la codicia de los funcionarios imperiales convierten lo que podía haber sido una integración controlada en una auténtica bomba de relojería. Hambre, abusos, extorsión y traición desembocan en la rebelión abierta de los godos bajo el liderazgo de Fritigerno. Lo que comienza como una crisis migratoria mal gestionada se transforma en una guerra devastadora en Tracia. Lucas Pinheiro Braathen foi um dos porta-bandeiras da delegação brasileira na abertura dos Jogos Olímpicos de Inverno de Milão-Cortina, na sexta-feira (6). A escolha pelo esquiador não foi à toa: ele é a principal aposta do Brasil para conquistar a medalha inédita em Olimpíadas de Inverno. O esquiador é o atual número dois do ranking mundial de esqui alpino. Nascido na Noruega, ele defende o Brasil, país natal da mãe, desde 2024, e diz que a escolha pela federação brasileira lhe trouxe mais liberdade. Júlia Valente, correspondente da RFI em Milão Lucas tem consciência de que a pressão é enorme. “Essa é uma responsabilidade que eu carrego todos os dias, até o dia da competição mesmo. Agora, essa pressão é um privilégio. Então eu abraço essa pressão, tento canalizar toda essa energia de alta frequência para minha performance”, afirmou em coletiva de imprensa neste sábado (7), na Casa Brasil, espaço montado pelo Comitê Olímpico Brasileiro em Milão para receber a torcida verde e amarela durante as competições. Filho de mãe brasileira e pai norueguês, Lucas cresceu entre diferentes culturas. Nasceu em Oslo, capital da Noruega, e na infância chegou a morar no Brasil. Curiosamente, esquiar passou longe de ser um sonho de criança, já que seu primeiro amor foi o futebol. Aos oito anos, de volta à Noruega, Lucas se rendeu ao esqui alpino, esporte que faz parte da identidade do país. Para o atleta, mais do que competição, é uma forma de expressão: “Para mim, o esporte é uma forma de arte, é uma arte de performance. E se você pergunta a qualquer artista o que é mais importante, [eles respondem que] é ser autêntico, ser quem eles são”.   Foi justamente por sentir falta de liberdade para se exprimir que, em 2023, Lucas tomou uma decisão difícil. Até então, competia representando a Noruega e disputou os Jogos Olímpicos de Inverno de Pequim, em 2022, pelo país nórdico. Após conquistar o título da disciplina de slalom em 2023 e ficar em quarto lugar no ranking geral de esqui alpino, anunciou sua aposentadoria devido a desentendimentos com a federação norueguesa. Meses depois, em 2024, voltou às pistas defendendo o Brasil. “Foi uma transição gigantesca. E me deixa meio emocionado olhar para trás, para essa jornada até chegar aqui em Milão vestindo nossas cores. Realmente, a sensação é de um segundo capítulo na vida. Essa parte da minha vida é uma parte com liberdade de ser quem eu sou, representar meus valores e meus sonhos verdadeiros. Não os sonhos dos outros, não os sonhos da mídia, da indústria, da minha equipe, mas os meus sonhos”, disse o esquiador. Em declaração à RFI, Lucas afirma que se sente completo nas pistas de esqui e compara a profissão de esquiador à de artista: “Eu achei nas pistas, na neve, na montanha, o meu palco, onde me sinto mais autêntico. No fim das contas, eu poderia virar um músico ou dançar, mas, para mim, o propósito que a gente tem é bem igual”. Aos 25 anos, Lucas já tem uma carreira cheia de conquistas no esqui alpino com mais de 20 pódios, oito deles representando o Brasil. Ele é o atual número dois do ranking geral da modalidade. Até o início das provas dos Jogos Olímpicos de Inverno, segue treinando na Áustria, onde mora. A estreia nas Olimpíadas será no próximo sábado (14), na cidade de Bormio. Lucas explica que a pista tem características bem específicas: “É uma pista um pouco mais fácil do que as que a gente está competindo na Copa do Mundo, mas são nas pistas mais fáceis que fica ainda mais difícil esquiar rápido. Então, essa é a arte dentro do nosso esporte: conseguir achar essa velocidade. É uma pista em que você precisa criar a força, a velocidade e a frequência sozinho”. Além de buscar a medalha inédita para o Brasil, Lucas carrega um desejo que vai além do pódio: “Eu quero sair desses Jogos como fonte de inspiração para o povo que liga para esportes, para quem não está nem aí para esportes. E, para mim, quero que as pessoas assistindo, vendo nossas cores nos Jogos Olímpicos de Inverno, entendam que tudo é possível. Não importa de onde vocês são, suas roupas, seu sotaque. O que importa é o que está por dentro. O que acontece para fora é um resultado disso”, aprofunda Lucas. Malhumorado en ocasiones, intratable en lo privado, pero prudente y hábil tanto en la diplomacia como en la guerra. Las campañas de Valentiniano se centrarán en el Rin, frente a los alamanes, y en el Danubio, contra los cuados y sus aliados sármatas. Nuestro augusto afrontará estos peligros con eficacia y, además, lo hará sin la compañía de su magister equitum, Teodosio el Viejo, ya que este gran general, tras concluir la campaña britana y recuperar la isla para Roma, deberá partir hacia el sur para hacer lo propio en África, tierra de promisión pero también propensa a conflictos sociales, religiosos y políticos. De poco le servirán a Valentiniano sus éxitos frente a los bárbaros, pues, inmerso en una de estas campañas, en la ciudad de Brigetio y ante los embajadores cuados, le sobrevendrá la muerte de manera repentina e inesperada en noviembre del año 375. Triste noticia que pone sobre la mesa un problema nada menor: el de su sucesión. Valentiniano dejaba dos hijos varones, llamados a repartirse Occidente, y un hermano, Valente, que aún reinaba en Oriente desde la corte de Constantinopla. ¿Cómo fueron estas últimas campañas de Valentiniano I? ¿Cómo gestionó las distintas incursiones en el limes, ya de alamanes, ya de cuados, a lo largo de los ríos Rin y Danubio? ¿Cómo fue en realidad el célebre episodio de su muerte? ¿Es cierto que le sobrevino en medio de uno de sus habituales ataques de ira? ¿Quién o quiénes serían los sucesores de Valentiniano I en la púrpura de Occidente? NEW YEARS CELEBRATIONS CANCELED IN MANY NATIONS WORLDWIDE DUE TO TERRORISM CONCERNS.// -----BEGIN TEARLINE----- -International Events-Global: Several nations have canceled or reduced their New Year's celebration events for many major cities. Paris, Hong Kong, Venice, Belgrade, and Tokyo have all canceled fireworks, concerts, and public gatherings due to terrorism concerns.Taiwan: This afternoon a complex terror attack was captured on video in downtown Taipei. One assailant began the initial phase of the attack by throwing a smoke grenade into the MRT Taipei Main Station (the central subway station in Taipei). During this initial incident, at least one citizen attempted to stop the attacker, however after a scuffle the citizen had either a medical emergency or sustained blunt force trauma (reports vary), and later died at a hospital. A few minutes after the attack began, it became clear that this initial incident was a diversion, and that the main attack was to be conducted at the Zhonshan Station a few blocks to the north. At some point after the first smoke grenade incident, the attacker moved to the second attack site and began stabbing people on the street right outside the Zhonshan Station subway entrance.The assailant also attempted to ignite a large incendiary device at some point during the attack, which was comprised of a bag full of Molotovs. Concerning casualties, 3x people were killed during the stabbing phase of the attack, and 9x others wounded. Eventually, the attacker took his own life by jumping from a high rise building during a foot pursuit by police, though the details of exactly how this happened remain unknown at the moment. The assailant was later identified as Chang Wen, however no details were provided regarding his motive for the attack.Australia: All seven of the suspects arrested during yesterdays counterterrorism investigation have been released from detention, even the suspects who were reportedly on terrorism watchlists. Authorities state that there was no reason to hold them, so they let them go.Analyst Comment: Analytically speaking, it's not usually a good idea to theorize just on gut instinct that a terror attack will take place, however if there ever were to be a time for such it would be right now. The intelligence value of letting known terrorists escape (so as to reveal the location of their buddies) seems like a good idea at first. However, the value of this investigative technique is negligible when the terrorist cell has reached the final stages of attack planning and have moved into the operational phase. By the time a group of terrorists are maneuvering into the objective area to obtain their weapons before an attack, the other cells have usually already cut contact for security reasons. These guys now know that they are being watched, and the element of surprise is gone at the same time they are walking free.-HomeFront-Rhode Island: Yesterday evening the Brown University shooter was identified by authorities as Claudio Neves Valente, a Portuguese national who was a former student of Brown University. Authorities state he committed the shooting at the Barus and Holley engineering building, before egressing to Boston. At some point during this trip, he is claimed to have swapped the license plates on his vehicle to evade detection. Once in Boston, he is suspected of murdering MIT professor Loureiro, whom he had worked with in back in Portugal some years ago.
