A weekly show that thoughtfully talks all things New York Mets. The hosts like to laugh to ease the eternal pain of Met fandom.
Roger Cormier and Brian Mangan
Today is tomorrow. It happened. Thanks to Tacocat for the music.
Brian is joined by special guest Rich MacLeod who, as it turns out, is the most special guest of all because, without him, Brian would never have known how to record a guest. We discuss his article for BP Mets, the Amed/Dom collision, Jeff McNeil's emergence, and Brian dips into the mailbag.
After 88 wonderful episodes, Roger has (temporarily? permanently?) resigned from Good Fundies. Brian thanks the listeners, the guests, the guest tweeters and the writers for an incredible run; and contemplates whether Good Fundies will continue. And if so, in what form. Thank you to Jared Diamond, Marc Carig, Matthew Cerrone, Eno Sarris, Dan Szymborski, Peter Alonso, Ty Kelly, Kevin McGowan, Rick Peterson, Greg Prince, JT Teran, Sean O'Connor, Ursula from FBWG, Rich MacLeod, Jon Hurwitz, Tim Britton, Matt Ehalt and Abbey Mastracco. Special thanks to Jenna Jacobs, Victoria Edel, Tim Sestito, Christina Cola, John Edwards, Tim Ryder, Helen Silfin. Thank you to the listeners, without whom none of this was possible. And thank you to Roger, for all your hard work and your friendship. You are a treasure to the Mets community.
Brian and Roger recorded an emergency pod about the Yoenis Cespedes situation and the underwhelming Jeurys Familia trade. This is that.
The Fundie Fellas yapped about Mike Trout and the All-Star Game (03:30), people intensely judging a Mickey Callaway decision that worked (07:30), and Jacob deGrom's agent's statement to the Mets to either trade his client or sign him to a contract extension (14:15)before inviting Tim Britton of The Athletic onto the podcast. Tim and the boys talked about their defunct TV blogs (25:00), how covering the 2009 Mets helped him divorce himself from Mets fandom for good (28:30), covering the Red Sox and how their fans had the same complaints Met fans have (30:30), if we are stuck with Jose Reyes (33:25), the right time to write the scorched-earth Wilpon article (35:40), documented meddling from other MLB owners in the past (39:30), bad team player evaluations (41:00), the three ways the Mets could rebuild for the 2019 season (43:20), deGrom (47:45), Amed Rosario's gradual growth (51:30), if Sandy Alderson was funny (57:00), the dangers of tweeting out lineups while driving (58:30), and plenty of other fun stuff. After conversing on the reveal of how small the Mets analytics department is (01:03:30), they opened up the mailbag, where they determined if it's possible that all three current Met GMs will each make a trade for the same player at the same time (01:14:00), if the Mets would have traded back for Wilmer if he was actually dealt in 2015 (01:19:00), what someone can do if they have a ton of empty soda cups from Citi Field in their house (01:21:00), the right way to deal with Mets sales guys without being mean but not too nice either (01:24:30), and their tentative plans to definitely maybe attend the *next* MLB All-Star Game (01:28:30) If you’re a writer and have a baseball story idea, pitch us at goodfundies@gmail.com. Roger and Brian announced that Good Fundies is now a World Cup podcast and maybe also a Metropolitan Museum of Art podcast (02:15) before discussing the blending of the internet and the real world (04:15),the latest writing about the Wilpons' meddling and the analytics people being overruled (19:00),Ken Rosenthal's take that the Mets won't make the same mistakes again and his reporting on the latest trade rumors (33:30), how money in trades work (47:15), who the next Mets GM will be and if Brian would do it if offered(57:45), and not fun facts about Jose Reyes, who is terrible (01:06:45). Then in the mailbag segment, the boys were asked if Reyes Virus Guy was right (01:23:45), if it's time for a complete rebuild (01:30:15), if the Mets fanbase is more disappointed than the Nationals' (01:31:30), if they're still watching the games (01:34:35), if Seth Lugo should start or relieve (01:40:15), if Steven Matz or Zack Wheeler should be traded (01:51:45), and why Peter "EL POW" Alonso is still in Triple-A (01:54:00). Roger and Brian voiced their appreciation for the departing Mets GM Sandy Alderson (03:00), discussed Jeff Wilpon's 'confession' (20:00), wondered if this current Met team is one of the worst ever (32:00), predicted how the triumvirate GM super squad will and will not work (36:00), gossiped about the reported in-fighting between the major league staff and the player development staff (37:30), spoke of the joys of bunting (41:00), chatted about AJ Ramos' season-ending surgery (01:04:00), uttered an uncharacteristic rant (01:07:00), shook their heads over the team screwing up waiting to DL Jason Vargas (01:10:30), and sadly detailed how Michael Conforto admitted he doesn't really like the 'Scooter' nickname (01:20:30). This time around the Fundies fellas started the pod discussing whether or not the Mets are going to go on another 11-1 run and just become the streakiest team in baseball history (02:00), give props to those who gave props (09:00), talk about Peter Alonso and Jeff McNeil's promotions to...Triple A (19:30), this week's injury protocol nonsense (23:00), and wondered why MLB promotes Aaron Judge so much but not the possibly better Brandon Nimmo (33:45) Then Roger welcomed veteran Mets writer Jerry Beach (38:00), who discussed his feelings on his guy Terry Collins getting redemption and viral fame (40:00), how he became the very first staff writer for mets.com (52:00), Derek Bell's love of 'Judge Judy' (57:30), witnessing the grand slam single game in person (59:45), his Forbes article on how eerily similar the 2002 and 2018 Mets are (01:07:30), and oh so much more. In the mailbag segment, Brian and Roger tried to figure out if they and other Met fans are Sisyphus fighting against ownership (01:27:00), if Lugo should go back to the bullpen when Syndergaard returns (01:36:30), and if Michael Conforto or Brandon Nimmo will have a better career (01:39:30). @falconkick's mailbag video in full: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NtyQqhDyxFs Jerry Beach's recent article: https://www.forbes.com/sites/jerrybeach/2018/06/15/for-rebuild-reluctant-mets-gms-the-script-and-scriptwriter-remains-the-same/ If you’re a writer and have a baseball story idea, pitch us at goodfundies@gmail.com. Hi! This week the Good Fundies fellas chatted about social media algorithms and the correct pronunciations of things (06:00), the Wilpons and their malfeasance for the past 15 years (12:30), Ken Rosenthal letting them down (27:30), the Mets paying more for shorter contracts (33:00), Adrian Gonzalez's departure (50:00), how they think Dominic Smith will do this time around (52:20), if the Mets season is uh, over (58:00), how they continue to mess up player position injuries (01:15:00), and Jose Reyes and retirement parties (01:21:45). Then in the mailbag segment, they pontificate on Amed Rosario's offensive improvements (01:35:50), what one thing they wish could have burned in Citi Field's display case (01:39:30), if David Wright is Hall of Fame worthy (01:42:00), who is to blame from #LOLMets (01:44:00), if there's any chance in hell the Mets sign Bryce Harper (01:48:00), and if Jeurys Familia will be back in Queens in 2019 (01:53:30). It's probably worth the price of admission just to hear Brian's bad Mickey Callaway impersonation (01:11:00) and Roger's excellent Mike Barwis impersonation (01:13:00). Mets top prospect Peter "EL POW" Alonso and beat writer Matt Ehalt (The Record/NorthJersey.com) joined the Good Fundies boys in an instant classic*! First, Roger and Brian talked about the Citi Field fire and the plague-ish events transpiring with the Mets lately (01:30), Mickey Callaway's recent motivational tactics (10:00), and Sandy Alderson's interesting math (16:00). Then Binghamton Rumble Ponies first baseman and Top 100 prospect Peter Alonso discussed his new wikipedia-verified nickname (24:30), how watching the 2015 World Series showed him how energetic Mets fans can be (26:30), if he's considering just showing up to Citi Field unannounced to see what happens (27:45), playing in Binghamton (34:10), how his idol Mike Piazza motivated him (38:30), wooden bats (48:00), why he would get rid of all of the new MLB rules (58:50), how teams are pitching him differently after his red hot start (01:03:00), if he can take Piazza in a scuffle (01:07:25), his New York City experiences (01:10:30), his message to Mets fans about players (01:12:30), his thoughts on 'Field of Dreams' (01:18:00), if he is willing to play the outfield if asked (01:18:30), and much more. If that weren't enough, Matt Ehalt hopped on afterwards and talked about writing for newspaper readers vs. millennials (01:23:30), Mets 1st round pick Jarred Kelenic (01:28:15), the latest on Todd Frazier and Anthony Swarzak (01:29:40), his take on Sandy's DL talk and the recent roster moves (01:32:30), Jose Reyes' future (01:36:50), potentially trading deGrom (01:43:00), why he gets so much twitter hate (01:47:30), why most writers don't focus on Mets ownership (01:57:45), Jeff Wilpon's payroll discussion (02:06:00), and you guessed it: a lot more. Roger and Brian discussed poor, poor, so so poor Jacob deGrom (05:00) before solving the Mets bullpen crisis by talking about it (11:00), apologizing kinda maybe to Terry Collins (15:00), determining what is Mickey Callaway's fault and what isn't (20:30), how the starting rotation should be changed (24:00), newest oldest Met Jose Bautista (34:40), Jay Bruce revisionist history (46:00), and an update on the METCON meter (50:00) In the mailbag segment, the two answered questions about when it's time to think about trading away Asdrubal (58:00), if Frazier and Cespedes returning to the Mets will save us all (01:03:25), why a listener hates themselves and roots for the Mets (01:07:15), why some fans blame Sandy and not ownership (01:10:30), if the Mets can pay for all the heart medicine they are costing another listener (01:21:35), and if Jacob deGrom should be freed (01:22:30). The boys of Good Fundies began the show by apologizing for missing last week and explaining what they have been up to lately, as well as sharing their existential and/or Mets-related frustrations (04:00). Then they got into which previous Mets season this year reminds them of (20:00), what Juan Lagares' possible season-ending injury means to the team (27:40), the Mets messing up Yoenis Cespedes' DL stint again (36:55), Todd Frazier's injury (46:00), Keith Hernandez sticking it to The Man without getting into trouble (48:00), Devin Mesoraco (57:55), The EL POWS Jeff McNeil and Peter Alonso (01:05:10), Luis Guillorme (01:08:20), and how long Jose Reyes deserves to stay on the team (01:10:00). Then in the mailbag they were asked and asked among themselves why the Wilpons want to own the Mets (01:26:00), their thoughts on the deGrom and Syndergaard as Yankees cover (01:35:00), how Brandon Nimmo will do the rest of the year and what the Conforto/Nimmo couple nickname should be (01:39:00), how long Vargas, Wheeler and Matz last in the rotation (01:45:20), what is to be done with Seth Lugo (01:47:40), which Met pitcher would do best and worst playing the outfield (01:53:30), and what position player you might rather have pitch than Jason Vargas (01:56:20). Writer/DirectorJon Hurwitz (COBRA KAI, HAROLD AND KUMAR GO TO WHITE CASTLE, AMERICAN REUNION) joined the Good Fundies boys. Obviously, Brian and Roger started things off talking about the Mets designating Matt Harvey for assignment (10:15). Then Brian made a change to the METCON level, noting the Mets' unexpectedly strong NL East competition and the team's latest injury issues (33:00). After that, Jon Hurwitz joined to chat about how he helped bring THE KARATE KID back to life (50:00), Keith Hernandez's bobblehead cameo and the Mets-related deleted scene from COBRA KAI(54:40), the movies he watched over and over again during the 80's (01:00:00), the possibility of a second season (01:02:00), if Harold or Kumar is a Mets fan (01:08:00), the 2002 marijuana Mets (01:08:30), how he became a Mets fan (01:09:00), why most comedians seem to be Mets fans (01:13:00), his thoughts on the 2018 team (01:15:50), why Jerry Seinfeld needs to "step up" (01:18:15), and pretty much everything else that's relevant. In the mailbag segment, the boys figure out if the new catchers are failing the pitchers (01:24:00), why the Mets didn't sign Bartolo Colon (01:32:15), the issues with the Mets' farm system and why it isn't as amazing as the ones the Yankees and Atlanta has (01:34:30), if it's time for Peter Alonso and/or Gavin Cecchini (01:43:15), and if there's anything to the Manny Machado talk emanating from the 'Rumor Sphere' (01:46:00) If you’re a writer and have a baseball story idea, pitch us at goodfundies@gmail.com. This time around Brian and Roger conversed on the luck behind one-run games and extra innings and what it says about how good the Mets actually are(08:30), the rotation after Syndergaard and deGrom (13:00), Matt Harvey's bullpen adventures so far (28:00), Adrian Gonzalez's xwOBA and Jay Bruce's imminent return to first base (37:45), Michael Conforto's possible troubles (50:30), and the triumphant return of the METCON level (01:03:55). In the mailbag, the Good Fundies guys revealed their favorite #MetsTwitter tweets (01:11:00), the team's best possible lineup (01:17:15), if someone with plantar fasciitis would feel less pain playing first over right field (01:20:30), their favorite Gary Cohen calls (01:24:00), Keith Hernandez's checkered San Diego broadcasting history (01:29:00), and their favorite MLB ballparks (01:33:30). Special guest star: Longtime MLB.com Mets beat reporter Anthony DiComo! This time around Brian and Roger talked about Matt Harvey's move to the bullpen (06:50), Yoenis Cespedes announcing he probably wont be denying himself the pleasure of golf much longer (20:00), Jay Bruce's struggles and Mickey Callaway's management of the outfield (24:40), and if the Phillies are legitimately scary (39:30) before offering the most positive of spins about the Mets' 2018 season so far (42:15). Then Anthony DiComo joined in to share his secrets on not going crazy after reporting on the Mets for over eight seasons (45:00), explain his Reel Big Fish intro song selection (47:40), what an off day for him is like (48:15), why Jay Horwitz always calls him 'Tony' (51:00), the biggest differences between a Mickey Callaway clubhouse and a Terry Collins clubhouse (52:00), how much input Mickey has compared to the front office (54:20), a Cespedes golf update (57:30), what Tomas Nido has to do to get more starts (59:25), if Brandon Nimmo is nicer than even Curtis Granderson (01:01:30), Jay Bruce continuing to start over Juan Lagares and Nimmo (01:03:00), the possibility of Bruce playing first base this season (01:05:20), Bruce and Todd Frazier's lack of best friendship (01:06:40), the lack of humor on #MetsTwitter (01:09:30), hat sizes (01:11:00), and ending the interview as awkwardly as possible (01:13:55). Then after Brian decided to worry about Noah Syndergaard's foul ball rates (01:18:00), the mailbag segment featured a question about Shohei Ohtani's MVP chances (01:23:00), Harvey's future (01:28:10), the possibly overworked Mets bullpen (01:31:30), and what happens if Cespedes golfs and still doesn't get out of his slump (01:41:00). After the boys of Good Fundies watched the Mets finish blowing a game against the Nationals (02:00), the two questioned whether such 'shocking' defeats were truly 'shocking' (03:00) Then they talked about Travis d'Arnaud's season-ending injury and what it means for the catching situation (08:00), Zack Wheeler's great start (19:00), and Matt Harvey's not so good at all start (21:10), before Brian updated us with the latest METCON reading (28:00) and the telling stats on how much Mickey Callaway is truly relying on the team bullpen (33:00). Then in the mailbag, the two figured out if Jay Bruce would be better as a catcher than Michael Conforto (41:00), when Jay Bruce should just go play first already and give Brandon Nimmo more playing time (44:30), how to enjoy being a Mets fan if it means crappy Mets fans get to be happy too (52:15), when Jose Reyes gets the boot for TJ Rivera or Ty Kelly or Gavin Cecchini (01:15:25), what friends call Noah Syndergaard (01:18:45), and if you’d be okay with a significant other cheating on you with a Met if it means three consecutive Mets pennants (01:19:15). It concluded with a congested Roger trying to channel Jack Buck calling the Bill Buckner play (01:21:10). If you’re a writer and have a baseball story idea, pitch us at goodfundies@gmail.com. The Mets are probably pretty good and Mark Simon (ESPN, Sports Info Solutions) joins in on the fun on the new Good Fundies! Roger and Brian used mostly true Mets facts and pythagorean records to determine if the Mets are good, all the while enjoying the wondrous moment in time (02:00). Then, the two got into the difference between Mickey Callaway and the former manager, Ol' Whatshisface (13:30), Brian revealed this week's METCON level (21:30), and discussed Keith Hernandez's tweeting thus far (25:30). This was followed by Mark Simon chatting about Stuyvesant High School athletics (33:00), whether or not he's a Mets fan (34:00), his time providing stats and cool info for 'Baseball Tonight' and ESPN (35:00), how the stats on TV changed after 'Moneyball' (37:50), his new job (41:20), Michael Conforto's future (43:45), how shifting around baseball has changed so far this season (46:50), if Adrian Gonzalez's hard hit percentage is real (48:30), which teams around MLB are victims of bad luck (53:30), if the Nationals will catch the Mets (54:30), and you best believe more. In the mailbag, the boys were asked what the Thor-deGrom-Matz-Harvey-Wheeler rotation should be called (01:00:00), if Wheeler is deserving of a rotation spot (01:04:10), if the Mets need Imagine Dragons to sing their new song (01:18:00), if Scooter is a decent center fielder (01:20:00), which Met player's DNA would you want in your child(01:23:45), if it's too early to be mad if the Mets aren't in the division race in September (01:27:20), and if it's a problem that Lagares and Nimmo aren't starting (01:32:15). Brian Wright talked about his new book "Mets in 10s: Best and Worst of an Amazin' History" and Roger and the other Brian made their 2018 Mets Over/Under predictions! First Brian and Roger talked about Keith Hernandez joining Twitter (04:00) of course. Then they went over how they thought Steven Matz looked and Mickey Callaway's decisions after the first Mets series of the season (13:00), and the potential outfield logjam once Michael Conforto returns (27:15). Then the boys invited a second Brian onto the show for the first time in history. Brian Wright talked about his cool new book "Mets in 10s", specifically: how his anger at Chase Utley influenced him (42:00), how he got Jerry Koosman to write the forward (44:00), how he became a Mets fan(48:00), fighting anti-recency bias when compiling Mets top 10 lists (51:00), the hardest top 10 list to compile (55:30), and keeping all of the "anguish"ing lists in one section (01:00:00). After that, the boys got their 2018 over/unders (01:04:00). Early on, Brian remembered to update the METCON level (01:05:00). You can pre-order Brian Wright's book 'Mets in 10s: Best and Worst of an Amazin' History' on the Amazon.com, Barnes and Noble, and probably elsewhere. Fake Baseball is over. Time for Real Baseball and a new Good Fundies, where Roger and Brian keep it professional with Addy Baird from ThinkProgress. After discussing the new members of the Good Fundies family and how the youth communicate these days, the boys talked about Rafael Montero's injury (14:30), Zack Wheeler's demotion (20:00), Steven Matz and Matt Harvey's futures (28:50), Noah Syndergaard's potential (33:00), Jason Vargas' Jason Vargasness (37:00), Michael Conforto starting the year on the DL (39:30), Phillip Evans (41:30), Wilmer Flores potentially winning the 1B job (44:45), Brandon Nimmo beating out Juan Lagares for CF (47:00), and their predictions on how many wins the Mets will have by the end of this season (50:45). Then Addy Baird schooled the boys on 'The Bachelor' (01:02:45), which Met would be the best Bachelor (01:07:15), the Mets' zodiac sign disadvantages (01:13:15), and how she became a Mets fan from Utah (01:26:45). In the mailbag segment, the two pontificated on minor league baseball's extra innings rule change (01:52:00), if Wilmer will be worse in the outfield than Todd Hundley or Daniel Murphy (01:56:00), if Dave Eiland is a refreshing change (02:00:40), and if the Mets are closer to a World Series title than blowing the whole thing up and starting again (02:04:30). On a very special and nice episode of Good Fundies, the boys just dove into the mailbag and never came up for air. After discussing if the fake baseball is exciting or not and the changes in Roger's life (some exciting, some boring), the Good Fundies guys answered listener questions about the first baseman situation with Dom Smith and Adrian Gonzalez (28:00), if the Met injury reports are overkill (31:00), what will happen if Matt Harvey has a good or great season (40:00), if Reese's Peanut Butter Cups are better than peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and Baby Ruth bars (51:45), how concerned they are on a METCON level regarding Steven Matz (01:02:00), if Gerson Bautista will make the roster (01:12:00), why Adam Lind wasn't signed (01:13:10), if it's more likely David Wright will hit 10 homers or Harvey wins 15 games or Mejia gets one save (01:17:15), if they like Travis d'Arnaud more than Kevin Plawecki (01:20:15), if the team is too cautious with Jacob deGrom (01:28:15), who they trust the most between Harvey/Lugo/Gsellman/Wheeler/Montero and Matz (01:32:20), and what they think the Mets payroll to revenue ratio is compared to the Yankees and the rest of baseball (01:38:30). Jason Vargas is here, actual baseball is almost here, and Abbey Mastracco was here on a new Good Fundies! First, Roger said goodbye to Matt Reynolds (04:30) before the boys got into the Jason Vargas signing (09:20), realized it was a new episode of "That's Not What We Meant!" (11:15), and thought there is more optimism to the Mets then there was three weeks ago (21:00). Then, Mets beat writer Abbey Mastracco from NJ.com/NJ Advance Media joined in (29:30). She talked about Vargas' Dirtbag days (32:20), the difference between a Terry Collins spring training and a Mickey Callaway spring training (35:00), trying to solve the enigma that is Rafael Montero (43:00),Tim Tebow (46:20), her IMDb credit and Will Ferrell (50:00), Mike Scioscia (54:00), Wilmer Flores: Outfielder (56:10), Yoenis Cespedes and water (01:02:20), David Wright (01:07:00), not lying about PJ Conlon (01:08:00), if Mickey Callaway is for real (01:14:30), the perfect tagline for Twitter (01:18:30), Todd Frazier's unintentional imitation of one of the 'Friends' characters (01:23:20), which Met has the best beard (01:25:40), and practically everything else. In the mailbag, the boys were asked if Wheeler will get suspended for self-injecting bone medicine (01:35:30), who the best and worst Met in the Winter Olympics would be (01:37:10), their thoughts on a lot of teams tanking (01:40:00), which Met pitcher should start Opening Day (01:44:30), their thoughts on the Trump Jr shark photo (01:48:00), if Roger will ever not be 'The Other Guy' (02:01:00), and if Wilmer Flores is a better outfielder than Montero as a pitcher (02:03:15) If you’re a writer and have a baseball story idea, pitch us at goodfundies@gmail.com. The boys of Good Fundies broke down the Todd Frazier signing and had a talk with relief pitcher Kevin McGowan! Brian and Roger talked about newest Met Todd Frazier's real birthplace (04:45), their initial and current reactions to the signing (09:25), what the team has to do the next to compete (16:25), what to expect from Frazier in 2018 (23:00), his weird walk rate spike (25:30), his barrels (43:00), and where the Mets stand now (55:00). Then the two conversed with New Hampshire's own Kevin McGowan. The pitcher talked about his new manager Mickey Callaway and pitching coach Dave Eiland (01:07:00), growing up hating the Yankees (01:10:00), striking out Kris Bryant (01:12:00), pointing at home runs (01:14:00), AJ Ramos' Instagram videos (01:17:30), his listed height (01:18:50), the Super Bowl and his beloved Patriots (01:23:30 for an eerily accurate prediction), It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia (01:26:00), finding housing in the big leagues (01:28:00),the non-joys of travel (01:30:00), the legend of Matt Reynolds (01:31:30), cutting his hair like Jacob deGrom (01:32:00), pitch clocks and bullpen carts (01:33:15), growing up watching Pedro Martinez pitch (01:37:30), Franklin Pierce trivia (01:47:00), what he would change to Major League Baseball (01:48:00), fear but not loathing in Las Vegas (01:52:45), being roommates with Amed Rosario (01:57:30) and Dominic Smith (01:59:45), and so much more goodness. Then the boys pontificated on David Wright's future (02:10:00), if Tim Lincecum should be given a shot (02:14:00), and if they should ask Matt Reynolds or Rafael Montero to guest on the podcast next (02:17:00). The triumphant return of BRIAN ON THE STREET and the debut of THAT'S NOT WHAT WE MEANT headline the latest episode of GOOD FUNDIES. After the boys talked about friend of the pod Ty Kelly signing with the Mets (05:00) and congratulated Callie on getting her Citi Field prom pics (07:45), Brian and Roger gabbed about the return of Jose Reyes (10:30) and Jeff Wilpon trying and failing immensely to properly address the Mets' payroll issues (17:00) in their new segment THAT'S NOT WHAT WE MEANT! After the two wondered if a Director of High Performance will matter if the Wilpons continue to meddle in team medical affairs, as reported again over the weekend(36:00), they presented the 2018 edition of BRIAN ON THE STREET. Brian asked Mets trivia questions the only way him and Billy Eichner know how at the #QBC (01:04:00). One of the contestants was WOR's Pete McCarthy, and he was pretty good! Then in the mailbag segment, the boys mulled over whether the Mets will have a higher winning percentage than Trump or the Wilpons' approval rating (01:31:55), who will have the most saves in the bullpen this year (01:34:40), the Mets not signing Jacob deGrom to an extension (01:37:50), who they would take between Eduardo Nunez, Neil Walker, Todd Frazier, or Josh Harrison (01:42:25), if Brandon Nimmo should try the infield out (01:50:55), and if there's a collusion transpiring (01:54:50). In light of the Mets getting him back, Brian ended his legendary silence about Jay Bruce (07:00). Then he and Roger discussed if the Mets would have signed Bruce if they had more money and what this all means for Michael Conforto (14:30), who was responsible for backing off of the Jason Kipnis trade(16:20), the days when Brian was considered an optimist and a 'shill' (22:30), how the Mets have somehow overspent and outthought themselves anyway (26:40), Adrian Gonzalez (33:50), why Gonzalez signed with the Mets in the first place (39:30), what the Mets are doing exactly (46:30), the Nationals getting a second baseman back at a cheap price (51:20), and if Josh Harrison is better than Wilmer Flores (53:40). Then Brian got mad at Wilmer Flores' lack of playing time all over again (58:45) before Roger said goodbye to Addison Reed once more (01:02:55). Some talk on the new Mets Director of High Performance (01:05:30) and who they think will get taken off the 40 man roster (01:07:30) before the boys of Good Fundies wrapped it up with thinking about their favorite Mets walk-offs (01:10:20). Corrections: Brian said Yonder Alonso signed with the Reds. He signed with the Cleveland team formerly known as the Bruceians. Roger said Bing Crosby sang 'Blue Christmas'. He sang the popular version of 'White Christmas'. Roger however was correct about the other thing he said about him. Thanks to Chromatics for the music.
Hey you fellow Swarziaks, it's the first Good Fundies episode of 2018! Brian and Roger returned to talk about Anthony Swarzak (03:00), their new year's resolutions (11:15), the legitimately surprising end result to Roger writing about Keith Hernandez's connections to Richard Nixon and Donald Trump (21:15), the return of Omar Minaya (36:00), Ken Rosenthal calling Mets fans 'shrill' (44:35), and why so many free agents remain available in baseball (01:00:10). Then in the mailbag, the two are asked if the Winter Classic will be the best game at Citi Field all season (01:03:08), if Brandon Nimmo is ready for a breakout year and if Juan Lagares should be dealt (01:07:20), the chances of Noah Syndergaard and Jacob deGrom staying healthy all next year (01:16:00), if Dominic Smith will be the starting first baseman (01:20:00), which Met is each Star Wars movie (01:31:00), and more. Note: Roger will tell his Mets employee tale next time. He apologizes for the tease. Thank you to The Kinks for the music.
The ineffable Dan Szymborski (Fangraphs, ESPN) returned for what was definitely the second time on the Good Fundies holiday special, officially making it a tradition. In the aftermath of Marc Carig's article wanting answers from ownership, and hearing from literally hundreds of frustrated Mets fans, Brian talked about the new fan movement designed to help bring about positive change to the franchise(11:15). Then Szymborski Claus talked about which Star Wars character's son he would be (43:00), the accents used on Game of Thrones and The Wire (44:15), poetic ZiPS comparisons like Dominic Smith and Adam Lind (51:00), the projections on the 2018 Mets starting rotation (55:25), the secret Michael Conforto career projections (01:05:00), the Anthony Swarzak signing's effect on the Mets' postseason odds (01:07:50), Jason Kipnis (01:11:40), which Game of Thrones character Mickey Callaway is (01:13:00), 2018 Jay Bruce predictions if he became a Met again (01:17:00), where the Mets will finish in the NL East (01:32:40), if Travis d'Arnaud or Kevin Plawecki can play better shortstop than Asdrubal Cabrera or Jose Reyes (01:37:25), which players were literally traded for food (01:38:45), and many other gifts. In the final mailbag of 2017, the boys of Good Fundies were asked which Met would buy the biggest Christmas tree and be the biggest grinch (01:52:36), how much Sandy Alderson is to blame (01:59:10), if the Yankees will win a title before the Mets win another playoff game (02:02:00), if they would rather be a GM, manager, or agent (02:20:20), and more. Then they gave some final words for 2017, and a reason for hope in 2018 (02:31:00) Thank you to everybody for listening this year. Happy Holidays, and Good Fundies to you and your loved ones.
Roger and Brian chatted about Shohei Ohtani spurning the Mets despite their multimedia presentation(17:30), the Mets continuing to not spend money (19:55), Ubaldo Jimenez (27:25), Carlos Santana (35:30), how getting Ian Kinsler would be such a Mets move (39:05), why the Mets wouldn't just try to be in on Giancarlo Stanton (44:10), their feelings on Carlos Beltran not getting the Yankees managerial job (47:35), Terry Collins' new nickname (49:10), Jordany Valdespin's weird tweet (50:00), Matt Harvey getting tendered a contract (51:00), their preference for who will martyr themselves as the new Mets Santa (54:20), Brandon Nimmo and when in a player's career umps start giving them close calls (57:00), a possible Jay Bruce return (01:01:50), Bryan Shaw (01:03:20), Dominic Smith and the folly of minor league defensive scouting (01:05:50), and if Dan Warthen was truly to blame for not using technology (01:13:40). Of course that isn't it because in the mailbag segment the Good Fundies boys guessed on which Met would be most into Black Friday and Cyber Monday (01:08:50), if Matt Adams should be considered as a Dom Smith stopgap (01:23:20), if a baby should experience their first Mets Opening Day with SNY or WOR (01:25:05), if Shohei Ohtani will have a higher WAR as a pitcher or position player (01:32:45), how devastated they are over not getting Aaron Boone to manage (01:35:00), and if they would trade Robert Gsellman for Whit Merrifield and his 80s actor name (01:38:50). Thank you to Joy Division for the music.
Former Met Ty Kelly joined the Good Fundies boys! He talked about playing in the 2016 Wild Card Game (17:30), if he brings up how he got a hit off of Madison Bumgarner every single day (18:40), going vegan and if he still eats at Chipotle (20:10), growing up a Giants and A's and Braves fan because of 'Saved by the Bell'(24:40), the funniest Met besides himself (26:00), how to make friends in baseball (27:20), his excellent memory of opposing pitchers (30:40), the trouble with playing in Las Vegas (33:10), the superpowers and wondrous hair of Matt Reynolds (35:10), who has the best hair on the Mets (35:40), transitioning from Triple-A to the majors (37:05), the challenges of mostly playing on the bench (41:20), how he compares to Mike Trout (43:30), the dumb jock stereotype (49:40), the one thing he would change if he were the commissioner (51:00), if the balls are juiced (54:50), challenges (56:00), and how one organization did spring training much better than anybody else (57:35). Before that convo, Roger and Brian talked about Carlos Beltran (05:20). After that convo, they determined who the worst player the Mets could get in free agency (01:06:40), Todd Frazier (01:11:20), Sandy Alderson's talk about Dominic Smith (01:13:10),
Marc Carig (Newsday) and Rich MacLeod (MLB.com, BP Mets) joined us for a twofer on a very special Ghoul Fundies. After Roger was wished a Happy Scareadays season from a very old ghoul (01:40), Brian and Roger talked about new Mets manager Mickey Callaway (08:30), and the details of the not so smooth purchase of the Triple-A Syracuse franchise you probably don't know about (13:00). Then Marc Carig joined the Good Fundies boys and discussed the latest news on Asdrubal Cabrera and Jerry Blevins' options (34:15), what it was like to walk into the Mets clubhouse the day after his now famous piece on Terry Collins (38:45), Mickey Callaway(46:42), how TC handled his players (52:20), why the team released Nori Aoki (56:30), not writing about this year's World Series(57:35), how he would have approached writing about the crazy Game 5 (59:25), his Series prediction (01:02:50), if the balls are juiced or not (01:08:00), and how he's celebrating Halloween (01:11:40). Then Rich MacLeod stepped up to the plate. After Roger kept asking him what the MLB replay hub is really like (01:16:00), he talked about having to edit videos of the Mets stinking (01:17:00), why he still bothers with #MetsTwitter (01:23:00), how late MLB employees work during the postseason (01:26:00), what Ryan Church told him about his concussion and missing third base(01:27:30), Church's reaction to Ray Ramirez's dismissal (01:32:00), and of course his World Series prediction (01:37:45). In the mailbag, the boys were asked if the Mets should go trade for Dee Gordon (01:46:30), if Brian would rather live alone with Jay Bruce on a deserted island instead of TC or Rafael Montero (01:49:40), and if RA Dickey should return to Flushing (01:51:15). You can now prove to us you have good fundamentals by donating to our Patreon page at patreon.com/goodfundies Thanks to Bobby "Boris" Pickett and George Michael for the music.
First Roger talked about the Mets related Halloween costume he's working on (01:24) before the boys of Good Fundies chatted about the secret real reason why Ray Ramirez was fired days after the rumor was he was staying (05:00), whether it's okay to root for the Nationals never getting past the Division Series round (16:10), how the Nats and the rest of the NL East are looking now (22:10), their most to least favorite NL East teams (25:40), the latest on the Mets search for a manager (35:50), David Wright's latest surgery (38:30), and if Jose Lobaton should have been called out during that NLDS Game 5 (41:45) before finally presenting The Fundies awards to the most deserving Mets (57:05). Brian and Roger then wrapped it all up with a quick mailbag segment debating why Sandy got to stay and Terry had to go(01:55:28). Thank you to Ray Watts and the Questions for the music. Note: David Wright's return dinger in Philly was on the 3rd pitch, not the 1st or the 2nd. Brian and Roger deeply regret their errors, even though they were ruled hits.
Brian was on a winning streak when the boys of Good Fundies talked about Terry Collins' resignation (03:00), the aftermath of Marc Carig's revealing piece about the team (06:00), who the next Mets manager will be (25:00), the METCON level (38:55), the final results of the 2017 Mets over/under contest (42:40), and the ultimate determination of whether or not Rafael Montero sucks (45:42). Following a musical tribute to the 2017 Mets season (53:15), Roger and Brian opened up the mailbag where they figured out which Met they would subject to dunk tank duty (01:05:30), if they would rather have a rotation of deGroms or a lineup of Confortos (01:07:40), how much they miss Scooter (01:10:15), why the Mets kept issuing offensive lineman numbers to the new guys (01:10:33), the strangest place they ran into a Mets fan (01:12:00), if deGrom ruined his career by cutting his hair and which Met should grow out his hair in his place (01:14:30). Then they talked about their offseason plans and who they will root for in the postseason (01:20:30). Notes: Terry Collins is 68, not 71 You can read the over/unders at https://goodfundies.com/the-2017-mets-over-unders-bf39b8fbc348
On a very special installment of Good Fundies, Brian revealed the results of his deep soul search and discovered he isn't sure if it makes sense to be a Mets fan right now (06:50). Then Roger and Brian discussed whether or not the Mets are treating Terry Collins right by hoping he retires (25:00), the return of Noah Syndergaard (33:10), what the Mets should do with Matt Harvey (40:00), if Dan Warthen should be invited back (48:30), if Mike Barwis is to blame for all of our problems (49:10), if Jay Bruce proved he was responsible for framing Kevin Plawecki (59:20), if Rafael Montero still sucks (01:02:40), and if Asdrubal Cabrera and/or Jose Reyes will be back (01:05:30). Then, the boys try to figure out if Brandon Nimmo is Soup...or Savior (01:12:50). Note: There's some moments of static from Roger's audio. Roger also at one point says "Light at the end of the rainbow" instead of "Light at the end of the tunnel." Allergy season is rough.
Brian returned to tell Roger what it's like to watch Mets games without social media (07:30) before getting into all of the things Brian didn't get to talk about over the last two weeks: the Binghamton Rumble Ponies making the playoffs (14:25), Robert Gsellman conceding apathy (16:10), Jay Bruce joining Twitter (18:12), Michael Conforto's injury (20:27), Brian's long desired Nori Aoki finally becoming a Met and if he would have been a better signing than Michael Cuddyer (25:50), Yoenis Cespedes' injury (29:10), Brian's conspiracy theory on David Wright's latest setback (33:45), Wilmer Flores breaking his own nose on his own foul ball (45:50), Rafael Montero continuing to not be awful (49:50), Kevin Plawecki showing his promise (53:30), Matt Harvey's predictably controversial return to the majors (57:28), Noah Syndergaard's rehab (01:10:25), Juan Lagares proving he should be the 2018 starting center fielder (01:12:50), the good news and bad news about Brandon Nimmo (01:16:00),
With all of his favorite players and podcast partner gone, Roger kept moving forward. First he talked out his depression over the Michael Conforto injury (03:13) before reading #MetsTwitter's favorite David Wright moments (07:22). Then he was joined by Mets/Marlins fan Ursula of the @FBWGPodcast. They chatted over what to expect from AJ Ramos (18:30), Robert Gsellman's disappointing season (26:22), if roommate Noah Syndergaard is a bad influence (33:08), what the Marlins might take from the Mets for Giancarlo Stanton (37:00), and if the Marlins Park sculpture can ever be sold or given to a museum (53:00). Then in the mailbag segment, Roger talked about Amed Rosario (57:55), who will be and should definitely not be the next Mets manager (58:37), if this episode is the best episode of Good Fundies ever (01:02:45), and if there should be major concern over Cespedes' hamstrings (01:03:30). Then Roger reads an email that will literally blow your mind and make you reconsider the previous five months of emails, figuratively speaking (01:05:30) Note: This episode has some cusses in it.
Roger and Brian welcomed positive David Wright news with open arms and discovered the repercussions of making a joke at The Captain's expense online(01:12), reintroduced themselves to the world by talking about how they first became Mets fans (08:20), and said farewell to Curtis Granderson and Rene Rivera (15:10). In the return of METCON (20:15), Brian revealed we are at red alert thanks to the Steven Matz 'hubbabaloo' (22:26) and Sandy Alderson's recent revealing comments regarding payroll (31:16). Then Roger theorized that Terry Collins now knows who he is and he is nervous about it (53:10), and explained the difference between Twitter Brian and IRL Brian (58:30). In the mailbag segment, listeners asked about DJ Lemahieu (01:01:50), which Met would be the most emotional and which would be the prankster at a wedding (01:06:40), if an eclipse can make Gavin Cecchini a 40 homer a year player (01:09:37), the possibility of an RA Dickey reunion (01:13:20), when Brian will stop saying Rafael Montero stinks (01:16:10), if Yoenis Cespedes is hustling enough (01:22:40), and which Met is the most obnoxious flight passenger (01:27:30). This episode is dedicated to Dennis Hopper, who is most certainly dead, and Bob Gibson, who is certainly not.
Roger said goodbye to Neil Walker (01:30) and Brian was forced to be nice and bid adieu to Jay Bruce (05:30), whom he does not hate personally. The two then dissected the Mets trades made in the past week (13:00), and if it's generally okay to trade with the Yankees or the Nationals (23:00). After that they put Dominic Smith through the infamous 'Soup or Savior' test (35:40) wondered why Gary Cohen and Keith Hernandez kept saying Brian's name over and over again on Sunday's Mets broadcast after they read his question on the air (53:00), and if they listen to the podcast (58:35). In the mailbag the boys answered questions about Travis d'Arnaud (01:10:00), Neil Walker (01:17:40), Amed Rosario (01:21:00), Ike Davis (01:22:30), Brandon Nimmo (01:26:04), Juan Lagares (01:29:30), Lorenzo Cain (01:33:50), Wilmer Flores and TJ Rivera (01:39:20), and Hansel Robles (01:47:40)
Roger and Brian said goodbye to dear friends Lucas Duda and Addison "Raddison" Reed (01:07), talked about the three trades the Mets made and all of the trades they did not make leading up to the non-waiver deadline (09:00), wondered if the dreams of the 'Hot Rebuild' are dead (18:50), and discussed the long awaited debut of Amed Rosario in the final installment of 'Where in the World is Amed Rosario?' (22:36) Then the boys said hello again to Joe DeMayo (@psltoflushing), who shared his insight on the minor league prospects the Mets acquired this past week (44:40), the AJ Ramos deal (52:30), freaky fingers (55:30), the Amed Rosario hype (01:01:00), if the Mets will make more moves in August (01:05:00), and Dominic Smith (01:08:30). In the mailbag segment, Brian was asked about a potential Jay Bruce re-signing nightmare (01:22:00) and if a family member of his was ever murdered by Jay Bruce(01:31:30). The boys also fielded questions regarding which Mets they would drink with (01:33:00), which Met plays the most video games (01:35:00), their picks for the Met Hall of Fame (01:38:00), Roger's cousin Daniel Cormier (01:40:30), and if Asdrubal Cabrera will still be around in 2018 (01:45:30). Programming note: This Sunday find Good Fundies on Facebook to witness a Facebook live event as Brian and Roger provide commentary of the Dodgers/Mets game. First pitch is 8:05ish p.m. Eastern.
On the 50th episode spectacular, Brian and Roger celebrated with special guest Eno Sarris (Fangraphs, October). Sarris talked about how he got his start writing about Kevin Maas and his female fans (24:36), his advice to aspiring baseball writers (26:40), if a hot dog is a sandwich (27:30), which MLB players have been and are currently mad at him (29:20); interviewing the one and only Michael Conforto (39:00), Matt Harvey's pitching troubles (46:00), his many baseball fandoms (50:10), the challenge of interviewing Lucas Duda (54:00), the change in the Mets clubhouse over the years (55:15), the Warthen slider (57:20), his new website about beer and beer culture (01:07:00), if the Mets will be able to move anybody before the trading deadline (01:19:00), and plenty of more fun and interesting stuff. The Fundies boys also did what has become natural to them: rate their stress levels about the Mets in the METCON segment (03:52), talk about Amed Rosario's whereabouts (13:25), and open up the mailbag, where they answered if they'd agree to be traded from the Mets to ensure a Mets championship (01:31:00), if Noah Syndergaard and Mr. Met were responsible for the phallic bobblehead hammer (01:35:00), if they cared about Yoenis Cespedes' comments about the A's recently (01:38:10),which Met they would go on a date with (01:44:00), and if they're still contenders for the wild card spot (01:47:20). Also Brian complained about Game of Thrones (01:50:00).
Roger was joined on the korner by Sarah D. Bunting (Previously.TV, Tomato Nation). She talked about how a Dwight Gooden homer made her a Mets fan for life (04:00), her favorite Mets growing up and now (15:00), the fun she's had with her last name (17:33), speaking at academic baseball conferences (20:33), inadvertently collecting Dave Stieb baseball cards (22:00), her experience reviewing the show 'Pitch' (25:20), perfectly describing Daniel Murphy's base running (32:42), lecturing college boys about Jimmy Key (42:28), her thoughts on Jose Reyes (47:43), her fears that Jay Bruce was going to be the next Jason Bay (55:00), and oh so much more. Brian and Roger finally agreed on their level of anxiety as Mets fans (03:45) and debated the definition of 'conspiracy' when talking about who is responsible for Amed Rosario remaining in Las Vegas (25:25). Then there was a big discussion on if any Met is truly 'untouchable', and friend there were some disagreements. The two specifically talked about the possible trade deadline returns for a Jay Bruce (37:00), Jacob deGrom (45:30), Michael Conforto (52:40),Wilmer Flores (55:30), or Addison Reed (01:00:30), and other possible future goners. In the mailbag, Brian and Roger determined which Met is the best cook (01:04:30), debated if the balls are juiced (01:09:00), started a new over/under bet on how many trades the Mets will make before the deadline (01:16:54), what they thought of Hansel Robles pointing up at a home run again (01:21:00), why Todd Hundley never gets enough love (01:22:00), the potential horrors of a Yankees-Nationals World Series (01:26:20), and if Brian would rather have Jay Bruce or Terry Collins for five more years (01:35:24)
Brian and Roger looked back at the over/under predictions they made for the 2017 Mets season back in April to their occasional utter embarrassment. The boys also found time to shake their heads and try to make sense of the latest Matt Harvey injury news and losing Bartolo Colon yet again. Then they had a chat with writer and big time Mets fan Sean O'Connor (Hood Adjacent with James Davis, Late Late Show with James Corden) about Chris Christie, Steve Somers, Kevin James, Facebook message boards, trying to get James Davis to do a Garfield joke, having the absolute worst luck attending baseball games, the Mets chances of winning the wild card, naming your child after a former Met, renaming Brian's 'hot rebuild' idea, if it's ever too late in your life to just focus on throwing a knuckleball, how to get into comedy, and much more. To follow along with Brian and Roger with their predictions, consult this bad boy: https://goodfundies.com/the-2017-mets-over-unders-bf39b8fbc348 Watch 'Hood Adjacent with James Davis' on Comedy Central Wednesdays at 9/8 central, aka whenever Fernando Salas is on the mound, or whenever on cc.com.
Brian and Roger talked about the Mets' latest obsession with hydration (03:00); Brian's trips to the SABR convention, Camden Yards, and Nationals Park (07:10); Michael "Scooter" Conforto's official designation as an All-Star (20:20); the latest METCON levels (33:30); what to put in an Amed Rosario care package (47:00), and if the Mets should bring back Bartolo Colon (56:15). Then in the mailbag segment (01:09:30) they wondered about which pitcher to take to the local county fair, why the Yankees haven't traded for Lucas Duda yet, and what constitutes "entertainment".
Roger and Brian asked and answered a lot of geographical questions, such as "Where does Asdrubal Cabrera get off?", and "Where does Terry Collins get off?", plus "Where in the world is Amed Rosario?" The METCON level was updated with new and improved context, and Roger, to his horror, heard Brian convince himself that the Mets still have a chance to make the postseason. Roger made things worse by defending a Terry Collins decision regarding Michael Conforto, and Brian reflected further on the difference between Scooter's slump in 2016 and his struggles the last few weeks. In the mailbag, the Good Fundies guys named horses, hired a new manager, talked smoked meats, compared the aesthetics of Matt Reynolds and Gavin Cecchini, and stopped any nasty rumors regarding Rafael Montero being good. Thanks to Andrew Lowden, Tacoma's The Ventures, and Beach House for the music, and Kelly for the cover art.
Note: Since even Roger is starting to give up on the Mets' season, Good Fundies is a 51s/Rumble Ponies podcast now. Always was, if anyone asks. Brian talked about his attempts at freeing Amed Rosario and his thoughts about the future of Dominic Smith, and Roger talked about Marcos Molina, the latest on his feud with Rowdy the Pony, and his weekend adventure to see the Binghamton Rumble Ponies in action. Helping Roger discuss his journey into Rowdy's neck of the woods was his travel buddy, JT. Terán (Rising Apple). The special guest also gave his thoughts on Rosario and the Mets' chances on making the postseason. In the mailbag segment, the boys talked about love, if they should move the Citi Field fences back, Flushing Creek, what one Mets transaction in their lifetimes they would take back if they could, and everything in between basically.
Michael Price (The Simpsons, F is For Family) is a Mets fan. He once annoyed Alex Trebek over it. He's also written some Mets jokes into The Simpsons. Duffy Dyer was Michael's favorite obscure Met growing up. He has had an interesting life.
Brian and Roger talked about the positive, life-affirming effect Yoenis Cespedes (and Steven Matz and Seth Lugo) have had on the Mets, why Jose Reyes is still hanging around, and if the Mets are good or bad at the whole drafting and evaluating players thing. Plus they updated the METCON level and ventured into the listener mailbag, where the two put together their all-time worst Mets starting rotations, got into why Terry Collins could possibly be making his hatred of Michael Conforto public again, and Brian said something that truly shocked Roger. Thanks to Lily Allen and Andrew Lowden for the music.
Brian and Roger talked about the crazier than usual events going on at Citi Field lately, if Wilmer Flores has secretly - no kidding - been an All-Star player this entire time, when Amed Rosario is going to show up already, how Brian is the Mets' Grim Reaper, if Robert Gsellman or Matt Harvey should be the new team closer, the most likable thing Terry Collins has done in a long time, and seriously where is Amed Rosario? Plus a dip into the mailbag, the several premieres of 'Roger's Conspiracy Theory of the Week', and Brian's introduction to the phrase 'Hot Rebuild.' Corrections: Brian meant Fallon, not Kimmel. Roger meant batboy, not ballboy. One regrets his error. Thanks to Andrew Lowden and Orange Juice for the music.
Brian and Roger talked to former Mets pitching coach Rick Peterson about what really happened with the Scott Kazmir/Victor Zambrano trade, how pitchers like Noah Syndergaard and Steven Matz should handle their injuries, his thoughts on the physics of pitching, how humor and "reframing" pressure situations helped him reach the likes of Jason Isringhausen and Jim Abbott, his childhood ambitions, and more. The boys of Good Fundies also turned the METCON machine back on and brought back "Soup or Savior" to prematurely judge Tyler Pill. There was also a deep dive into the mailbag where they determined what Michael Conforto's "Judge's Chambers" equivalent would be called, if Rene Rivera and Wilmer Flores could beat a pile of dirt in a foot race, and more. Highlights from that segment included two very good Tommy Milone questions and some Beaumont, Texas trivia. You can read more about Rick Peterson at rickpetersonpitching.com. The book he wrote with Judd Hoekstra, "Crunch Time: How to Be Your Best When It Matters Most", is available at Amazon.com and elsewhere. Thank you to Andrew Lowden for the music.
Brian revealed some shocking news about the current METCON level before revealing his true thoughts about Derek Jeter. Roger blamed the Jeurys Familia injury on the Warthen slider while Brian, in only his estimation, gave his old friend and podcast partner his support. The two also talked about Asdrubal Cabrera's allergy to the disabled list, Terry Collins breaking the record for longest tenured Mets manager, when Amed Rosario will show up to Queens, what in the actual F is going on, how Neil Walker enjoys wine, if Michael Conforto cries before he goes to sleep, and more if you could believe it. Roger teased that Steve Phillips and Sandy Alderson were going to be mentioned. They were not, in a successful attempt to get the podcast under five hours. Thank you to Mary J. Blige for the music.
After Brian and Roger shared their favorite Adam Wilk memories, the two got into the Matt Harvey suspension, how the Mets are now handling their injuries, and if the season is over yet. In the mailbag, they were asked things like what Terry Collins binges on Netflix before they were interrupted with the latest Matt Harvey news. They talked some more about Harvey and got back to the rest of the mailbag segment, because they are professionals. Oh and they revealed who was responsible for that youknowwhat in Kevin Plawecki's locker. It's pretty obvious. Thanks to Apples in Stereo for the music. You can find Good Fundies on Twitter @goodfundies and @brianmets. The Instagram handle is goodfundiespod. There's a Good Fundies playlist on Spotify. Good Fundies is also now on Facebook. The latter was 100 percent Brian's idea.
