0:00-22:00: A history making episode, as the franchise we know and love sails to uncharted water. Praise be Dylan Moore, our dung beetle champion. We were thrilled to have a season of Moore rather than a season of Rumbelow. It wasn’t all bad, folks. What happens to the other star of the Dylan Moore game? Could he be joined in Houston by a certain Nordic prince? John wonders where Joe Maddon is headed, and Kate broaches the topic of quinoa enchiladas. 22:05-37:10: bUt WhAt AbOuT tHe MiNoRs? What would the Mariners pitching dev look like in other hands? Particularly, Matthew’s hands. There would be extensive hair care and Twitter two-a-days. A weekly show of gratitude for Brodie van Wagenen and a quick bop around the league. Do not fact check anything John says about Mookie Betts playing second base. If the Mariners pass, former San Diego resident Matthew Roberson will be the Padres’ pitching coordinator slash youth influencer. While you’re here, yell at Grant Bronsdon on the world wide web. 37:20-1:02:40: If any of the rugrats are getting traded, who will it be? The first hypothetical blockbuster of the winter gets batted around. Who’s currently expendable on the big-league and AAA rosters? Can any of them competently pitch, as in a baseball? Stay tuned for next season, though. Some Jay Bruce or Anthony Swarzak-type trades seem imminent. This offseason is being advertised as a quiet one, but we speak Jerry. Ay, y’all remember Mitch Haniger? 1:02:45-1:07:55: Wishing MLB rules were more like the NBA’s. The Kyle Seager predicament. 2020 draft eligible players who are most definitely real people. In this week's episode of the Talking Chop podcast, you will notice a decided lack of Ozzie Albies trade proposals and references to Michigan sports and the curse of Atlanta sports. That is because Brad is on location in Vegas covering the NBA Summer League. As a result, you are stuck with Eric handling main host duties. My condolences. Fortunately, Scott was able to join me to cover a whole lot of ground in Brad's absence. Enclosed in said podcast you will find topics covered including: - Recapping the Braves' awesome first half of the season - Our MVPs and LVPs for the Braves from the first half of the season - Discussing the injured and rehabbing Braves including Anthony Swarzak, Dansby Swanson, and Ender Inciarte - Looking back at the games from the last week or so - Recovering from a crazy 9th inning in Sunday's game versus the Marlins - An early look at trade deadline targets - Much, much more Learn more about your ad choices. The Trail Blazers are down 3 games to 0 against the Warriors with Game 4 in Portland coming up tonight. Softy was hard on the team, and got ripped by Blazers fans for not supporting the PNW's NBA team. Wait, the region's team? The Mariners and Seahawks are the region's teams because the region has never had another NFL or MLB team, but we had the Sonics here for decades. We had a rivalry for years. Even after a decade, it's hard to get over that. The Mariners make a move, trading Anthony Swarzak to the Braves for a pitcher who is out for the year, and another the Braves had DFA'ed. Still though, the team is terrible. They can't beat teams that are over .500, and that's not going to change. They will however keep scoring runs. Magic Johnson spoke about leaving the Lakers on First Take. He admitted that he was "in and out" as a GM while he was focusing on other ventures. He wasn't focused on the GM gig in the way the job deserved. Just another reason we're lucky to have Carroll and Schneider.

Kate, John, and Matthew get together to talk about a surprising first week in Mariners baseball and award the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly to the season so far. 0 - 13:00: Because this is a Mariners podcast, we start with the Ugly, which, as John rather ominously intones, “comes out at night.” Dylan Moore’s adventures in the infield are gone over and judged to be significantly worse than the 1987 classic film Adventures in Babysitting. But this is not Dylan Moore’s Ugly to wear alone: in true esprit d’corps, the whole team has come together to record some truly eye-bleeding errors. 13:00 - 23:00: On to the Bad, which is pretty clearly the Bullpen of Terror, but not in the good way you want a bullpen to be terror. Kate proposes there’s a Quantum Leap/Freaky Friday scenario going on with Cory Gearrin. The crew ponders the question: “which reliever most terrifies you when their name comes up on the Dial-a-Reliever?” Kate and John debate the merits of Texas’s development system and if there’s maybe something to be done with Connor Sadzuck. Zadseck. Sedzuck. Look, we just started getting Brandon Brennan’s name right, you’re going to have to wait your turn, Connor. 23:00 - 39:00: Finally, THE GOOD! First, some light shading from Kate about the Red Sox potentially not being very good, an assertion Matthew and John quickly shut down. We also introduce Kate to the wonders of macaroni penguins, and talk about our favorite guys on the team. 39:00 - 59:00: Digging into listener questions! Which position player gets called up first? Unsung heroes of the young season? Is the King washed past the point of no return? The crew also makes some prescient remarks about Anthony Swarzak closing games. 59:30: Matthew’s DM’s are super open. Chris Archer struggles. Adam is not optimistic on him as much as others. Paul Goldschmidt was a winner this weekend. Adam Wainwright was shaky in his season debut. Adam is upset with the Daniel Murphy injury. He drafted Murphy high in the 4th and 5th round and expected him to bat near .350. Kolten Wong teases too many fantasy owners so lets see if his hot start continues. However, if you are hurting in the middle infielders go for it. The Mariners closing situation is a mess. Anthony Swarzak is a possibility but he is really risky.

Mets top prospect Peter "EL POW" Alonso and beat writer Matt Ehalt (The Record/NorthJersey.com) joined the Good Fundies boys in an instant classic*! First, Roger and Brian talked about the Citi Field fire and the plague-ish events transpiring with the Mets lately (01:30), Mickey Callaway's recent motivational tactics (10:00), and Sandy Alderson's interesting math (16:00). Then Binghamton Rumble Ponies first baseman and Top 100 prospect Peter Alonso discussed his new wikipedia-verified nickname (24:30), how watching the 2015 World Series showed him how energetic Mets fans can be (26:30), if he's considering just showing up to Citi Field unannounced to see what happens (27:45), playing in Binghamton (34:10), how his idol Mike Piazza motivated him (38:30), wooden bats (48:00), why he would get rid of all of the new MLB rules (58:50), how teams are pitching him differently after his red hot start (01:03:00), if he can take Piazza in a scuffle (01:07:25), his New York City experiences (01:10:30), his message to Mets fans about players (01:12:30), his thoughts on 'Field of Dreams' (01:18:00), if he is willing to play the outfield if asked (01:18:30), and much more. If that weren't enough, Matt Ehalt hopped on afterwards and talked about writing for newspaper readers vs. millennials (01:23:30), Mets 1st round pick Jarred Kelenic (01:28:15), the latest on Todd Frazier and Anthony Swarzak (01:29:40), his take on Sandy's DL talk and the recent roster moves (01:32:30), Jose Reyes' future (01:36:50), potentially trading deGrom (01:43:00), why he gets so much twitter hate (01:47:30), why most writers don't focus on Mets ownership (01:57:45), Jeff Wilpon's payroll discussion (02:06:00), and you guessed it: a lot more. Hey you fellow Swarziaks, it's the first Good Fundies episode of 2018! Brian and Roger returned to talk about Anthony Swarzak (03:00), their new year's resolutions (11:15), the legitimately surprising end result to Roger writing about Keith Hernandez's connections to Richard Nixon and Donald Trump (21:15), the return of Omar Minaya (36:00), Ken Rosenthal calling Mets fans 'shrill' (44:35), and why so many free agents remain available in baseball (01:00:10). Then in the mailbag, the two are asked if the Winter Classic will be the best game at Citi Field all season (01:03:08), if Brandon Nimmo is ready for a breakout year and if Juan Lagares should be dealt (01:07:20), the chances of Noah Syndergaard and Jacob deGrom staying healthy all next year (01:16:00), if Dominic Smith will be the starting first baseman (01:20:00), which Met is each Star Wars movie (01:31:00), and more. Note: Roger will tell his Mets employee tale next time. He apologizes for the tease. Thank you to The Kinks for the music.
The guys are back for another season, and there’s plenty to talk about, even if the Mets haven’t made many moves of substance. Darren Meenan and Brian Erni discuss the Anthony Swarzak signing, Omar Minaya’s return, and where The 7 Line Army is heading on the road in 2018. Plus, Newsday’s Marc Carig hops on to talk about his recent scathing coverage of ownership, and what finally made him take up the cause. Crack a cold one and settle in to kick off another season of OABT! An "Orange and Blue Thing" is something that Mets fans can relate to, so that's what we talk about. The comments section turns in to a live chat room, and the fan engagement is cool to see. Co-hosted by Darren Meenan and Brian Erni, our episodes are taped live each Thursday at 6pm Eastern. We're a pretty visual show, so if you can, try to catch the live stream on Facebook.com/The7Line. For now give a listen and if you're in to it, share with your friends, subscribe and leave a review. LGM 2018!

The ineffable Dan Szymborski (Fangraphs, ESPN) returned for what was definitely the second time on the Good Fundies holiday special, officially making it a tradition. In the aftermath of Marc Carig's article wanting answers from ownership, and hearing from literally hundreds of frustrated Mets fans, Brian talked about the new fan movement designed to help bring about positive change to the franchise(11:15). Then Szymborski Claus talked about which Star Wars character's son he would be (43:00), the accents used on Game of Thrones and The Wire (44:15), poetic ZiPS comparisons like Dominic Smith and Adam Lind (51:00), the projections on the 2018 Mets starting rotation (55:25), the secret Michael Conforto career projections (01:05:00), the Anthony Swarzak signing's effect on the Mets' postseason odds (01:07:50), Jason Kipnis (01:11:40), which Game of Thrones character Mickey Callaway is (01:13:00), 2018 Jay Bruce predictions if he became a Met again (01:17:00), where the Mets will finish in the NL East (01:32:40), if Travis d'Arnaud or Kevin Plawecki can play better shortstop than Asdrubal Cabrera or Jose Reyes (01:37:25), which players were literally traded for food (01:38:45), and many other gifts. In the final mailbag of 2017, the boys of Good Fundies were asked which Met would buy the biggest Christmas tree and be the biggest grinch (01:52:36), how much Sandy Alderson is to blame (01:59:10), if the Yankees will win a title before the Mets win another playoff game (02:02:00), if they would rather be a GM, manager, or agent (02:20:20), and more. Then they gave some final words for 2017, and a reason for hope in 2018 (02:31:00) Thank you to everybody for listening this year. Happy Holidays, and Good Fundies to you and your loved ones.
