2012 CY Young Winner, RA Dickey joins us on the podcast today. He came from a low-income, broken home. He learned how to survive through extreme adversity, trauma and abuse. Sports Illustrated wrote a review of his book and said, "The finest piece of nonfiction baseball writing since Ball Four." We had a great conversation about his life and what he's learned, especially what he learned through failure. He's a deep-thinking guy who know's how to tell a story. We had a lot of laughs, excited to share this one with you. God uses all things for the good, even when it's a NY Met winning the CY Young. How do you get the Ego out of your way and develop a posture of humility? What was winning the 2012 Cy Young like? What is the difference between stubborn and relentlous? Why is it imortant to learn from failure? How can you use your influence to change someone's life? There is an old saying, the teacher will appear when the student is ready. RA shares many examples of God bringing men into RA's life and picking him up and guiding him. So many little lessons in this one! Hour 2- The Subway Series is not the place to have R.A. Dickey celebrated.
PASSED BALL SHOW #32 6/14/2012 PART TWO; On the second part of the program, I am joined by former Braves and Blue Jays LHP Pedro Borbon. Pedro discusses whether his chances of making the majors were helped or hurt by having a father that played the game. He talks about the impact the MLB player's strike had on him. He also mentions how being a lefty specialist was a win-win situation. We talk about how it felt to be a part of the 1995 Braves World Series Championship and compares his experience then to what it was like when his father won with the Cincinnati Reds in 1975 and 1976. I start the show by mentioning the Mets AA starting pitching in Binghamton and close by giving an opinion on MLB's looking into David Wright's 1st inning play that may have caused RA Dickey a chance at a no-hitter. Finally, I bring up my suspicion that collusion may have been going on last offseason.
PASSED BALL SHOW #56 11/29/2012 Part 1 WITH BRUCE MURRAY; Listen back to part 1 of the show as @john_pielli speaks with Sirius XM host Bruce Murray from Mad Dog Radio. I also hit on topics like Denard Span and Washington, Mets chances of trading David Wright if he is not extended as well as RA Dickey and BJ Upton signing with the Braves. I also question people's motives when they suggest trading a player for “prospects” when the term is used anonymously
Guests: Blue Jays bench coach Don Mattingly, President Emeritus Paul Beeston and knuckleballer R.A. Dickey This week in Deep Left Field, host Mike Wilner talks to Don Mattingly about joining John Schneider's coaching staff, chats with Paul Beeston about being part of the Hall of Fame Contemporary Baseball Era committee and catches up with R.A. Dickey, who is on the Hall of Fame ballot for the first time.
Mark Wiley and Will George entertain Former #1 Draft Choice and Milwaukee Brewers Pitching Coordinator Jim Rooney. Learn the origins of RA Dickey's resurgence as a knuckler. Jim is very candid in the lessons learned through his journey as a player and coach ... and dishes on how a conversation with his mom after his release led to his drive to coach. He is quick to give credit to many mentors along the way including his father and even shares a heartwarming story that connects his dad's admiration of HOF Robin Roberts to his first start as a Cornel Big Red freshman vs. South Florida. Wiley and Will do it again getting Rooney to offer great instructional pieces to our audience my favorite phrase- "Toe the rubber and express yourself."
When the Tampa Bay Rays cut Mickey Jannis after his second minor league season he made the bold decision to develop a knuckleball—one of the rarest and most difficult pitches to master. Mickey didn't have the fastball velocity most of his peers had and he thought doing something different might help him standout. After more than a decade in the minor leagues, Mickey recently became just the 8th knuckleball pitcher to debut in Major League Baseball in the last 20 years. In this episode, Andrew and Mickey explore how to stay focused on a goal and why the courage to be a little different is often the key to success. This conversation may be the inspiration you need to step outside your comfort zone and create your own path. Show highlights:1:10 - Setting goals and developing the right mindset3:52 - Identifying a way to standout and create your niche4:36 - Seeking advice from others and making a bold decision7:01 - Mickey's knuckleball9:23 - Courage to do something different11:19 - Navigating adversity and sticking with a goal 14:37 - Doing unconventional work to develop a craft21:02 - Mickey's Major League Debut with the Baltimore Orioles23:19 - Focusing amidst distractions and compartmentalizing emotions24:46 - Staying humble and resilientBe sure to subscribe & leave a review for the show in your favorite podcast app. Please tell your friends about Everybody Pulls The Tarp on social media and be sure to tag Andrew in your posts @andrewmoses123 (Instagram) and @andrewHmoses (Twitter).Follow Andrew on IG: @AndrewMoses123 and Twitter:@andrewhmosesSign up for e-mails to keep up with the podcast at everybodypullsthetarp.com/newsletter!

The Knuckleballer joins us. What is RA Dickey up to? How has been satiating those competitive juices. You’ll be surprised what he’s doing. RA talks about stepping away from the game doing so in a very uncelebrated fashion. He also fills us in on his Raptors fandom. The trio then talk about the trauma that Robert Allen Dickey endured during his formative years. It gets really intense. On The First Pitch discusses Barry’s narcissism. The guys discuss Kawhi Leonard’s immersion into the Toronto and GTA scene. Should fans leave The King of The North alone? Is the frenzy that surrounds Big Whi sure to affect his decision about staying in Toronto? The Tampa Bay Rays are looking at co-oping their home games with the city of Montreal. WHAT!? Matt and Barry discuss the ins and outs of what it would take to make this happen. MLB attendance and a startling trend is chatted on. #AskBarryDavis asks what the hell the plan is for the Blue Jays in 2020. DOES ANYONE KNOW? Why would the Jays trade Marcus Stroman if they need pitching? Why aren’t the Jays doing promos to get more asses in seats?

The Mets are not going to make the playoffs this year, but Omar Minaya will probably trade young talent for mercenary veterans anyway, destroying next year’s team in the process. Mets fans watch this happen year after year, while the team continues to neglect their long-standing starting pitching problem (and last-ditch mid-season moves cannot solve a problem this deep).
