Elizabeth Childers is a Registered Nurse whose nursing career has spanned over twenty years. Elizabeth had always thought that she had taken care of just about every type of patient until she became a patient in 2012 after being diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. After her diagnosis she became increasingly more ill and found that the more treatments she received the worse her disease progressed. Armed with her nursing knowledge and the desire to heal, she began a journey of healing that has led her to a place where her disease has remained in remission without treatments. Dr. Esselstyn has been associated with the Cleveland Clinic since 1968. In 1991, he served as President of the American Association of Endocrine Surgeons. That same year he organized the first National Conference on the Elimination of Coronary Artery Disease. In 1995 he published his bench mark long-term nutritional research arresting and reversing coronary artery disease in severely ill patients. That same study was updated at 12 years and reviewed beyond twenty years in his book, Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease, making it one of the longest longitudinal studies of its type. In July of 2014 he reported the experience of 198 participants seriously ill with cardiovascular disease. During 3.7 years of follow up of the 89% adherent to the program, 99.4% avoided further major cardiac events. Among many other awards, he received the American College of Lifestyle Medicine 2016 Lifetime Achievement Award. Dr. Esselstyn and his wife, Ann Crile Esselstyn, have followed a plant-based diet since 1984. Arjun joined the India Against Corruption Movement in 2011 at the age of 17. He later advised the Chief Minister of Delhi on various policies and led a movement that pushed for reforms of rape laws. He was awarded the Chevening Scholarship by the British Government, which allowed him to do his Master's in Public Policy at the London School of Economics and Political Science. Right at the end of his scholarship, he started to feel sick. He was diagnosed with muscular dystrophy and then with spondyloarthopathy, an autoimmune disorder. He was at wit's end. Dr. Esselstyn has been associated with the Cleveland Clinic since 1968. In 1991, he served as President of the American Association of Endocrine Surgeons. That same year he organized the first National Conference on the Elimination of Coronary Artery Disease. In 1995 he published his bench mark long-term nutritional research arresting and reversing coronary artery disease in severely ill patients. That same study was updated at 12 years and reviewed beyond twenty years in his book, Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease, making it one of the longest longitudinal studies of its type. In July of 2014 he reported the experience of 198 participants seriously ill with cardiovascular disease. During 3.7 years of follow up of the 89% adherent to the program, 99.4% avoided further major cardiac events. Among many other awards, he received the American College of Lifestyle Medicine 2016 Lifetime Achievement Award. Dr. Esselstyn and his wife, Ann Crile Esselstyn, have followed a plant-based diet since 1984. Elizabeth Childers is a Registered Nurse whose nursing career has spanned over twenty years. Elizabeth had always thought that she had taken care of just about every type of patient until she became a patient in 2012 after being diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. After her diagnosis she became increasingly more ill and found that the more treatments she received the worse her disease progressed. Armed with her nursing knowledge and the desire to heal, she began a journey of healing that has led her to a place where her disease has remained in remission without treatments. She is a key figure in the international Hearing Voices Movement, has co-edited three books, published numerous articles and papers and is on the editorial board of the journal Psychosis: Psychological, Social and Integrative Approaches. Jacqui is Honorary Lecturer in Clinical Psychology at the University of East London, Visiting Research Fellow at The Centre for Community Mental Health, Birmingham City University and a member of the Advisory Board, The Collaborating Centre for Values-Based Practice in Health and Social Care, St Catherine's College, Oxford University. Jacqui's survival of childhood abuse and subsequent experiences of using psychiatric services inform her work, and she is an outspoken advocate and campaigner for trauma informed approaches to madness and distress. Jacqui is part of a collective voice demanding a radical shift in the way we understand and respond to experiences currently defined as psychiatric illnesses.
