Healing Hearts: Parenting with Purpose-Support for Resilient Families, Support for Parents, Childhood Trauma Advocacy

Send us a Text Message. In this episode, Rylie Heck speaks with Andrea Mancuso about parental well-being and how that can connect to their children's mental health. Andrea was a School Psychologist for the New York City Public Schools for over 14 years. She served the NYC school system and supported thousands of children and their families during that time. Much of Andrea's work emphasizes awareness and acceptance, proactive self-care and effective communication between parent and child. Throughout her years working with parents, she has found it to be exceptionally important for parents to open up to the possibility of locking arms with trusted professionals to best support their children. Andrea also works hard to empower parents to take care of themselves to the best of their ability. It takes a village; And the village must be healthy to be impactful with the care of vulnerable children. Andrea is a highly skilled consultant and dynamic facilitator. As an Associate Certified Coach (ACC), Andrea is experienced with both development and high-performance coaching. She is certified in Emotional Intelligence (EI) assessment and is currently the host of The V Spot Podcast. In this episode of the Fueling Creativity in Education Podcast, hosts Drs. Matthew Worwood and Cyndi Burnett delve into the transformative power of creativity in education with guests Rosie Leonard-Kane and Alan Morgan from the University College Dublin Innovation Academy. Rosie, a facilitation specialist, emphasizes the critical need for a shift towards a more creative educational approach, particularly in systems heavily focused on examinations. Alan, an entrepreneurial specialist and program director, discusses the vital role of developing educators' creative confidence and mindset. Together, they highlight the necessity of embracing and nurturing creativity to rekindle educators' passion for teaching. Throughout the episode, the conversation covers the challenges and potential solutions for integrating creativity into educational practices. The discussion includes the impact of the pandemic on educational creativity, the shift to online learning, and the opportunity it presents to expand program reach and incorporate experiential learning virtually. The hosts and guests also touch on the importance of developing an entrepreneurial mindset in teachers, employing design thinking, and fostering an environment of innovation and flexibility. Practical tips for educators on starting small with creativity in the classroom and fostering a culture of curiosity and collaboration are shared, making this a must-listen for educators looking to enhance their teaching approach and inspire their students. About our guests: Rosie Leonard-Kane Rosie started her career as a secondary level (high school) maths teacher. She worked in London's most deprived areas where educational outcomes are still closely linked to socio-economic background. Amidst a culture of high-stakes exam pressure, Rosie found joy in finding creative ways to engage her students in learning and loving maths, and soon found herself sharing her approaches with other colleagues. This led to a move into teacher training and development where Rosie's passion for supporting others to unleash their own creativity and innovation in their teaching grew. She now works as a Facilitation Specialist at the UCD Innovation Academy where she has, what she describes as, the ‘absolute privilege' of working with Educators across all levels of education to develop creative confidence and adapt their approach to teaching and learning so that their students get the kind of education that they all deserve, not just focused on passing the test. Alan Morgan Alan Joined the UCD Innovation Academy in 2019 and he now holds positions as an Entrepreneurial Specialist, Facilitator and Programme Director for The Professional Diploma in Creativity & Innovation in Education (Educators Programme for short). Before joining the Academy, Alan held key positions at Kaplan Dublin Business School (DBS) including Course Director for Marketing and various lecturing roles in Marketing subjects. While working at DBS, Alan studied Entrepreneurial Education at The Innovation Academy - and this change his life..! It was at this time that he developed a passion for creativity, innovation and entrepreneurial thinking in education. Winning two awards at DBS for ‘Above & Beyond' in his work with students, Alan then moved on and joined the UCD Innovation Academy where he became Programme Director for the course that changed his life..! Alan has built and developed the Educators Programme, particularly through the Pandemic years, to it now being an internationally recognised programme for educators at all levels. Alan is currently in the final stages of a Doctorate of Education with The University of Wales Trinity Saint David – his research topic is centred around the Cultivation of an Entrepreneurial Mindset in Primary School in Ireland. Before his days working in education, Alan had a successful career as an International Retail Buyer.   Eager to bring more creativity into your school district? Jason Melbourne joins Emma-Louise Coffey on this week's Dairy Edge podcast to give an insight into how built his career in dairy farming and how he has implemented learnings from the Agricultural College to take his herd from average to top performance in a short period of time. Jason explains that he first gained an interest in agriculture in his early years while spending time milking and feeding calves on his uncle's farm. Wanting to pursue a career in dairy, Jason completed the Level 5 Cert in Agriculture and Level 6 Advanced Cert in Dairy Herd Management at Gurteen College. Subsequently, he then enrolled in the Level 7 Professional Diploma in Dairy Farm Management to further develop his technical knowledge and skills. Jason highlights the significant experience gained during course placements particularly in the area of grassland management, achieving efficiency and working within large scale dairy operations. The knowledge and experience has helped Jason manage a large dairy herd of 280 cows in East Cork where he has lifted milk solids from 390 kg in 2018 to a predicted 470 kg in 2021 while 6 week calving rate has increased from 60% in 2018 to 83% in 2021 through improved management of cows in the weeks prior to mating start date such as BCS, OAD milking, scanning and a second herd with bulls for later calvers and thin cows. Additionally, Jason emphasises the focus on growing and utilising high levels of grazed grass and identifying the appropriate stocking rate in order to balance grass supply and demand. Growing 17tonne DM in 2020 means the milking platform is comfortable at carrying a stocking rate of 3.2 cows/ha with supplementation of 600 kg concentrate per cow per year. Consequently, there are a lot of areas in the feet and ankles where something can go wrong. Podiatrists, albeit being specialists, are often the first practitioners to diagnose major systemic issues of the body. When we think of a podiatrist, we tend to think of a doctor that treats broken ankles, hangnails, neuroma and performs foot surgery. But did you know, podiatrists can also treat several dermatology issues related to your feet? In this week's podcast episode, Marni will be speaking with Joseph Frenkel, Podiatrist and Wound Care Consultant. He is a La Trobe University Graduate and completed his Master of Science with a specialty in Wound Healing and Tissue Repair at Cardiff University, and his Professional Diploma of Dermatology at Bond University.  If you've never looked at wound care as an exciting topic or area of interest in podiatry, I think you may change your mind after listening to this particular episode.  On this episode we discuss: Had a passion for wound care, even as a student Almost burning out after five years by not following his passion. The daily ritual of routine nail care, orthotics and ingrown toenails were making him brain dead. Just cutting toenails felt like a waste of his passion and knowledge, but he is not saying this area of podiatry is not essential.  His big reason to start more study was to re-energise his career, he wanted to be doing something he loved.  Studying at Cardiff University: He knew from day one that this was were he needed to be and wound care was what he was supposed to be doing. He also met a fantastic group of health professionals from different professions with the same interests and passion.  Adding a sub-specialty adds variety to your workload and is a stepping stop to other opportunities.  Podiatric Dermatology  "What got me excited about wound care was the ability to affect change. It has a quite exciting immediacy".  The difference between what we learn about wound care as an undergrad compared to doing a postgrad course. The incidence of skin cancer in Australia is one of the highest in the world, two to three times the rates in Canada, the US and the UK. In 2015, 2162 people died from skin cancer in Australia, 1520 from melanoma and 642 from non-melanoma skin cancers. Melanoma kills more young Australians (20-39 year olds) than any other single cancer. To put it into perspective in Australia in 2015, there were 1520 deaths due to melanoma and in the same year there were 1,209 deaths due on our roads. There is more and more research into the cause and treatment of melanoma plus awareness initiatives such as #calltimeonmelanoma and today we will be diving into the depths of different types of skin cancer and what to look for on your skin. Welcome to episode number 5 of the Heal Thy Skin Podcast, I’m Marni, your host and today I am speaking with Jane Homberger from Skin Smart Australia. Jane is a Registered Nurse, holds a Post Graduate Diploma in General Practice Nursing and Professional Diploma in Dermatoscopy and is the CEO of Skin Smart Australia, a company that provides mole mapping and corporate skin cancer checks across Australia. Jane shares how her journey into skin cancer medicine, inspired the beginnings of Skin Smart Australia and the importance having your skin checked by a certified dermatoscopist. The 3 deeper than skin insights that Jane shared that stood out to me were: Know your ABCDE!! A stands for asymmetry - If you were to place a cross through your mole, are all four pieces identical? B is for border – A healthy mole has a border that fades consistently into the periphery with no abrupt border. C is for colour. A mole with two or more colours is more concerning than a mole with only one colour. D is for diameter. A melanoma is commonly larger than 6mmin diameter. Please be aware though that most moles over 6mm will not be melanomas. Finally E is for evolution. Something changing and evolving. 2. Melanoma can occur on anyone in moles that you’ve had all your life. 3. Book in for a mole map! Mole maps should be part of your annual health check up. - - - To join the dermhealth.co community head to www.dermhealth.co You can find out more about Skin Smart Australia by visiting: http://skinsmartaustralia.com.au/ https://www.facebook.com/Skin-Smart-Australia-636936793069203/ To find out more about skin cancer visit: https://www.cancer.org.au/about-cancer/types-of-cancer/skin-cancer.html Call time time on melanoma initiative: Use #calltimeonmelanoma in your social media posts and follow @calltimeonmelanoma --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/dermhealthco/message

Film students know how challenging it is to distribute their independent works in the absence of financial or other supports. At the moment too little attention is paid to the problem of distribution in film schools and universities, and it is very rare to find curricula offering distribution courses or even providing useful distribution tips. Moreover, many young artists fear screening their student works and consider them mere shooting exercises. This is not always the case, and notable films may have been kept unreleased or had extremely limited distribution. Therefore, this topic opens these questions: · Why are young Italian and Irish film students afraid to get their hands dirty and refrain from distributing their works? What kind of obstacles do they encounter? · What plans can film schools put into action to teach students distribution? · Is it possible to spread/share a proper film distribution culture? My study will try to answer these questions by analysing a few case studies from Italy and Ireland. Based on my past experiences as a documentary film student and on interviews with a number of students and graduates from these two countries, my presentation will identify problems and suggest possible solutions that could support the distribution of independent films and the development of young filmmakers’ work. Davide Abbatescianni is a PhD Excellence Scholar in Film and Screen Media at University College Cork. His research project, entitled Young Filmmakers in the Time of the Great Recession: A Focus on the Irish and Italian Film Industries, comprises an academic dissertation and the making of a feature documentary. He holds a Professional Diploma in Stage Directing (International Theatre Academy of the Adriatic), a BA in Communication Studies (University of Bari) and an MA in Documentary Directing (Baltic Film School). He currently works as a foreign correspondent for the EU-funded film magazine Cineuropa. He is also active as a director and assistant director.
