When you start to run your business because you are trying to chase shiny objects or you want to look good, you start to shift that intrinsic motivation to extrinsic motivation, and given time, your business WILL start to suffer, which is exactly what happened to my next podcast guest, international speaker, trainer, and author, Curt Mercadante. A key element to making sure that you have the right people on board is to first be able to REALLY understand the purpose of your business and then create a set of corporate values that helps those you hire understand and embrace them, which then puts them in the right mindset to do the things that eventually lead to your business success. This is exactly what my next podcast guest, CEO of App Lab, Kundan Joshi did where he and I talk about how he made a few mistakes in the past that led to his business starting to slow down, and he had to go back to understanding what the purpose of this business, creating values around this purpose, and providing those he hired with the support they needed to succeed in their roles. When you find yourself going through a number of professional experiences, what you may start to find is that there are some people you meet in the workplace whom you naturally connect with, and with time, there could be a natural friendship that is formed. But when you move on to another experience, you may not be able to keep in touch with them, yet, your connection with them is always still there. Perhaps you will never cross paths again, or, perhaps, when you trust your intuition that helps open the doors of opportunity for you, one of those opportunities might give you a chance to work directly with someone you enjoyed spending time with in the past. This had happened to my next podcast guest, entrepreneur, author, and coach, Mike Malatesta who had been fired from a job and when his intuition had him thinking about starting a business on his own, a past colleague gave him the fuel to start a venture together, growing it to over seven figures a year. In this podcast interview, Mike and I talk about how he grew to like the construction industry, how he got fired that led to him starting his new company, and how he needed to become selfish in running his business after his father and the person who gave him the nudge to start a business both died within months of each other, that then took his business to a whole new level. At just 20 years old, my next podcast guest, leadership development and resilience expert, Jamie Mason Cohen, knew that being a speaker was what he was meant to do, and his intuition made sure that, no matter what career road Jamie took, it would always guide him towards becoming a speaker, as long as Jamie paid attention to the signals and signs that his intuition was sending him. And as Jamie continued down a windy road of careers, his intuition started to send him signs and signals that he needed to pay attention to so that he could get into a career as a speaker that his 20-year-old self knew was the ultimate career for him. And sure enough, 20 years later, Jamie listened to his intuition, and, as Jamie puts it, he was finally home.
Jason Sanderson had a few times in his life when he lost everything, and he REALLY needed to listen to his intuition to find out how to pivot when things went sideways. But when he DID listen to his intuition, he found a space that had him find tremendous success as a podcast engineer responsible for a VERY popular podcast series that has been generating millions and millions of downloads every single month. When running a business, trusting your intuition is something hard to explain to others, but it is SUCH an essential part of making sure that your business is successful. One of the intuitive branding areas called Intuitive Sales is one that is crucial to you making sure that you attract the right type of customer to your business, and once you do, you are then able to use your intuition to create a customer journey that has them continuing to buy from you because they know that your products and services actually add value to their lives. If you make the mistake of trying to serve the wrong type of customer, the opportunity cost of this decision has you wasting your time and effort on customers who will most probably not buy from you, where you could have spent even less time and effort focusing on customers who are willing to pay you for your products and services. This is a topic that my next podcast guest, serial entrepreneur Barry Randall, talks about with me that has helped him become wildly successful as a serial entrepreneur, author, and business coach among other accomplishments. When you go through a HUGE personal tragedy, there are a lot of emotions that you have to deal with, which also means that it is really hard for you to move your life forward. This was what my next podcast guest, David Keck, went through after he was followed and beaten within one inch of his life, just because someone did not like who he was. Even though his emotions ran wild, his intuition knew that he needed to not only get back up from what had happened, but he needed to share his story with others to grow more aware that being different is okay. As an entrepreneur, having a vision board and writing down goals is a REALLY good practice to have, but without taking action, the reality is that whatever visions and goals you have are simply not going to be reached. Taking massive action is what serial entrepreneur, Tom Smyth, is all about, which is why he was able to catch the attention of influencer Grant Cardone and also survive his business almost being decimated during the pandemic. In this podcast interview, Tom and I talk about his accountability board, moving his business forward by taking massive action to reach his goals that led him to Grant Cardone and his team, and how he has no time for those who waste time by saying no so that he can continue to grow his business by earning the trust of those who work for him, one of the pillars of what intuitive branding is all about.
A very important part of intuitive branding is using your past learning and experiences to inform the business decision you are about to make, a function that one of the four types of intuition called Experiential Intuition is responsible for. Making a split-second intuitive decision that relied on past experience was something my next podcast guest, professional speaker, and corporate consultant Dion Jensen, had to make because this decision was the difference between life and death. In this podcast interview, Dion and I talk about how he used intuition in his past experiences, the story behind the Goalcast video that was seen by millions of people worldwide, the moment his daughter saved him from taking his life, and the difference between rich versus wealthy coming down to trusting your intuition to genuinely help others. Developing trust in an organization has to do with using the proper ways of influence and persuasion to earn that trust, something that body language expert Mark Bowden knows intimately. In this podcast episode, Mark and I dive deep into understanding what intuition is, and what it is not, which is crucial for business owners to understand so that they can unleash its power to earn the trust of those responsible for their success in under 14 seconds, which then effectively eliminates their competition. This is EXACTLY what intuitive branding is all about.
When you ignore your intuition and go through a horrendous situation, you may start to question why you ignored all the signs that should have gotten you to back away from that situation. But what is more important is that the silver lining that should come out of going through such a situation is that you start to trust your intuition to make sure that you take whatever steps you need to move your life ahead. My next podcast guest, Stephanie Palacios, went through a horrific kidnapping that left her with both deep physical and psychological wounds, and the ONLY way she was going to make sure that she didn't dive into an even darker hole was to start to trust HER intuition to only put herself in environments that had her take the steps to find happiness, surrounding herself with only those who truly want to see her succeed, and what's most important, sharing her experiences with others. THIS is intuitive branding at its finest where branding is not defined by a logo, a color, or even a tag line. Establishing an intuitive brand is about you using your experiences, opinions, or characteristics in the case of a product or service, that has the intuition of others trust you, your product, or your service to move their lives ahead in some way, shape, or form. In Stephanie's case, the shocking events that she went through and the path she took to overcome her trauma have had her turn those experiences into training programs, speaking opportunities, and helping entrepreneurs deal with the stresses that come up when running their businesses. When starting a business, you must have the passion, drive, and purpose to give solutions or to provide amazing value to your potential customers, making them want to pay you for it. In my podcast interview with Mike Brcic, we talked about how he turned his passion for mounting biking into a successful business named the number one mountain bike tour company in the world by National Geographic. Losing passion led to the downfall of his business with him ignoring his intuition and feeling burnt out that eventually had him let go of the business. Given the pandemic that we are going through at the time of this episode, men have felt the stress of trying to live life avoiding being affected by the Covid-19 virus. This stress was also felt by the medical staff who found their emergency rooms overflowing with people struggling to breathe on top of the others who have come there for their medical issues, having those treating the patients also feeling tremendous stress, with incredibly high rates of burnout. My next podcast guest Entrepreneur, CEO, and Behavior Change Specialist Sharon Sloane decided to take this issue head-on trusting her intuition to film a series of interactive videos during the pandemic in a hospital of all places to create a set of online training tools to improve critical thinking and decision-making abilities. In this interview, we talk about how and why she developed these online tools, how she lost over $1 million in business, surrounding yourself with people called beam holders that are your foundation of support, and what some of her fears are. When we are faced with crisis situations, adrenaline starts pumping through our bodies, and we start to take immediate action to get out of that situation. But when your intuition wants you to take a different action, your intuition will send you a very strong signal to make a change, just like it did for my next podcast guest, inspirational survivor, speaker, and author, Dave Sanderson, who is best known for being the last passenger off of the famous United Airways flight 1549 which made an emergency landing into the Hudson River and was turned into a major motion picture called ‘The Miracle on the Hudson,' starring Tom Hanks. After the plane landed into the river and was taking on water REALLY fast, Dave got into crisis-mode, racing towards the open emergency door until his intuition sent him a signal where Dave hears the voice of his mother, who had passed away a number of years earlier, and that signal had him turn around and help others off the plane. In this podcast interview, Dave and I talk about how this incident changed his life, how he viewed relationships, and how to win in sales by being trustworthy and genuine relationships. With the statistics that show that close to 80% are unhappy in their jobs, and over 60% of employees leave because of their boss, it seems pretty clear that those managing employees are not taking the time to do this the right way. Yet, when employees are treated properly, they are much happier, increasing their productivity by 37%, with 31% of that going directly to the bottom line. I talk about the right way to manage people with my next podcast guest Client and Retention expert, Lynn Thomas, where we talk about how to manage the next generation of employees by making them feel listened to and appreciated, including the time that she ignored HER intuition that led to a bad partner which cost her over $250,000 to get rid of. When it comes to companies having a good set of core values, research continues to show that not only do over 80% of employees not know what their company's core values are but over half of the leadership also have a hard time reciting what they are. Yet, it is these core values that are necessary for driving the right type of behavior in any company, which led to one of my two podcast guests, David Zumpano, trusting his intuition to fire his whole leadership team. Dave and I are joined by my second podcast guest, Guy Remond, who uses his intuition to not only create a great corporate culture but is able to take his technical background in understanding the expectations of customers to create a great user experience. In fact, it was intuition that brought these two together when David was looking for someone he could trust to develop the back end of Guidr, a software for those looking for legal services online that also allows the user to tap into the advice from legal experts the right time in the process. Moving on from a VERY devastating situation, especially one that you had no control over, can be very painful to go through, both mentally and in some cases physically. Yet, your intuition is always there, helping you out of the situation by shining a light on things that will help you move your life forward, as long as you are trusting your intuition. This was the case for Diana Joleen who was living the high life until she was in a terrible accident, suffering from extreme mental and physical pain, with little to no energy to do anything. This is when her intuition shone a light on art, something she grew up doing, and, after posting the very first picture she created after the accident online, she found a buyer. One purchase led to another, and pretty soon, she became a celebrated professional artist. My next guest is serial entrepreneur and sales strategist Erica Martin who was able to learn the ropes in running a Karate school from her father and growing her entrepreneurial skills quickly to finding tremendous success speaking on large stages, making millions in sales, earning property, and the list goes on. But then she ignored her intuition, and this list stopped growing, as she crashed and burned to hit one low after another, which she detailed in a Facebook post, which is why I reached out to her to do a podcast interview. Her story is an amazing one as it shows what happens when you ignore your intuition even though you may be at the height of your success, the “a-ha” moment she revealed that she was actually not prepared to talk about, and how trusting her intuition had her find the path to success once again. Shelby and I also talk about trusting her intuition to select the right clients when in business and her deep interest in civility which has had her write a book and talk on a TEDx stage on this topic. My next guest is Cortney McDermott, an award-winning writer, speaker, and strategist to Fortune 500 executives who started to veer away from listening to her intuition when it was telling her to move away from the super busy corporate life she was in. She made the choice to ignore her intuition to keep moving on, doing things like living the high life and moving around the world on a corporate jet, but, on the inside, her intuition kept getting louder and louder to change what she was doing, until she had an epiphany while in the air. In this podcast interview, Cortney and I talk about that moment, and how she swung her life into almost the opposite way, teaching about meditation, and listening to your intuition, which is music to my ears. What does finding your purpose have to do with business? Everything! The reason why you attract both employees and customers who want to be associated with your business is that they resonate with why you started your business in the first place, which is your purpose. My next podcast guest, Trevor “Toe Cracker” Crook did just that as he left banking to find his purpose, which was copywriting. And when this happened, he found instant success in business as he was able to continuously deliver for his clients as his copy helped bring in millions of dollars for his clients. One of the mistakes that I often see businesses make is trying to be everything to everyone when it comes to offering their products and services. What you offer to your customers has to be driven by the needs of your customers and this has to complement what you are already offering, which is what my next podcast guest, Intentional Sidekick, Dan T. Rogers, talks about. In this podcast interview, he and I talk about why this was so important for him that actually helped him save money as he did not need to have a sales staff, but he was able to attract the right customers that have him grow every single year, earning him a spot on the Inc 5,000 for seven consecutive years.
