"Effective communication is almost like effective podcasting." "Entrepreneurs, you don't need to just look at where this person (potential hire) went to school or where they did this. You need to look at who's grinding. Who has not just the skills, but the attributes, those hardworking attributes that make them want to get better every single day." "If you want to hire a team for 25 years, you don't want them where they're at when you hire them on day one. You want them based on the potential of where they're going to be 25 years from now." "If you think somebody has the potential to take over something that you're doing, something you know somebody else could be doing, and when they get 60–65% as good as you, set them free. Let them go. Let them do it." "You give me a bad script and you deliver it well, it's going to be received better than vice versa." "One little tidbit to communication is this: you have to watch yourself without listening, so you can see your body language. And you have to listen to yourself without the video on. If you do those two things, you'll definitely level up your ability to communicate." "Communication is a skill like any other, and if you don't work at it, it will diminish." "They think that by saying, 'Me too,' they're building rapport with you. No, they're doing the exact opposite. They're showing they're not letting that person get that dopamine pumped out of their body and get those neurochemical soups going in the right way." "Secrets are shared with whispers, not with yells." The mood has changed, and so has the way people buy. In this episode I'm discussing why bold claims and glossy certainty are falling flat, and how clarity, proof, and psychological safety now drive trust in a noisy feed and a fragile news cycle. We dig into tone and timing, the cost of silence, and how values and presence signal care without slipping into performative noise. And, I refer back to brand strategy and consumer psychology, to show how audiences carry wider distrust from institutions into every purchase decision, and why “trust us” energy fails when the world feels volatile. Voltiris has developed spectroscopy-based solar panels that filter light for greenhouse crops while generating renewable energy. Unlike traditional opaque panels that cause 60-80% yield reduction in high-tech greenhouses, Voltiris's technology harvests only the light wavelengths unused by photosynthesis. In this episode, we sat down with Nicolas Weber, Co-Founder and CEO of Voltiris, to explore how a former BCG consultant and a PhD spectroscopist are navigating multi-season validation cycles with family-owned greenhouse operations across Northern Europe. Topics Discussed: Why spectroscopy expertise unlocked a solution to greenhouse energy challenges The technical reality: traditional solar creates 60-80% yield loss in high-tech greenhouses Earning credibility with second and third-generation greenhouse operators Time as constrained resource: multi-season validation in agriculture markets System-level thinking required to manage complex greenhouse operations Offline GTM in conservative B2B agriculture: fairs, referrals, and crop advisors Platform strategy: expanding from solar to complete greenhouse energy management GTM Lessons For B2B Founders: Time constraints differ fundamentally in hardware: Voltiris faces season-dependent validation cycles where "you can throw as much cash as you want on a tomato, it's going to take one year to demonstrate that it works." Most growers demand 2-3 full growing seasons before adoption. Hardware founders must structure runway, investor expectations, and partnership terms around immovable biological or physical timelines—not software-style iteration speeds. Product-market fit exists before product in infrastructure plays: Voltiris confirmed demand preemptively. Nicolas explains: "If the technological promise holds, there is demand...the growers, they already told us from the beginning we're waiting for solution like this to come." When selling infrastructure that solves existential problems (energy transition, electrification mandates), validate market pull before achieving technical proof. This inverts typical startup sequencing but derisks decades of R&D investment. Treat early customers as co-creation partners, not transactions: Voltiris positions initial deployments as "joint creation" rather than sales. Nicolas's pitch: "This is the future vision. Are you ready to build it with us and do you want to jump into that shit with us?" In markets with 25-30 year product lifecycles and 3-year company track records, transactional selling fails. Structure partnerships with shared risk, transparent data access, and collaborative problem-solving. Master domain expertise at operator level, not executive level: Voltiris's technical co-founders became greenhouse operations experts, not just energy technology experts. Nicolas credits this: "My two co founders are now among the best experts you have in terms of how to run a greenhouse." In complex B2B environments (agriculture, manufacturing, logistics), founders must understand day-to-day operations—not just C-suite pain points—to build credible solutions. Use direct feedback environments to compress learning cycles: Dutch growers provided unfiltered assessment within minutes. Nicolas values this: "If what you're building is not good, you would know directly within five, 10 minutes...they would say, not worth my time, please, the door is here." Seek brutally honest customer segments that accelerate validation, even if acquisition is harder. Fast negative feedback prevents wasted development cycles on wrong assumptions. // Sponsors: Front Lines — We help B2B tech companies launch, manage, and grow podcasts that drive demand, awareness, and thought leadership. www.FrontLines.io The Global Talent Co. — We help tech startups find, vet, hire, pay, and retain amazing marketing talent that costs 50-70% less than the US & Europe. www.GlobalTalent.co // Don't Miss: New Podcast Series — How I Hire Senior GTM leaders share the tactical hiring frameworks they use to build winning revenue teams. Because you should feel safe around police officers, you know? I don't necessarily know how to put that in a word, but I think that you should definitely just feel safe around police officers.”So how can police departments increase safety and earn trust in the communities where they work? University of Denver Assistant Professor of Public Policy Ajenai Clemmons' research answers these questions that can extend beyond North Carolina. On this episode of RadioEd, co-host Jordyn Reiland chats with Clemmons about how the men she interviewed made sense of policing in their neighborhood—and what they needed to both be safe and feel safe.More information:What the Durham Police Department Can Do to Enhance Safety and Earn Trust

Phil Gerbyshak sat down with Melanie Deziel, the author of "Prove It! Exactly How Modern Marketers Earn Trust." The conversation revolved around the importance of trust in marketing and how to cultivate it effectively. Some of the key points Melanie shared include: Thinking Like a Journalist: Melanie emphasized the importance of adopting a journalistic mindset in marketing. This involves being curious, asking the right questions, and seeking the truth. By doing so, marketers can create content that is both informative and engaging, which helps build trust with the audience. The Value of Customer Reviews: Melanie and Phil discussed the power of customer reviews in establishing trust. Positive reviews can significantly influence potential customers' perception of a product or service. They also discussed strategies for encouraging customers to leave reviews and how to handle negative feedback.Proving Connection: The duo delved into the concept of proving connection, which involves demonstrating a genuine understanding of the customer's needs and wants. This can be achieved through personalized marketing strategies and by showing empathy in communications.Units of Trust: Melanie introduced the concept of "units of trust," suggesting that trust isn't binary but accumulative. Each positive interaction with a brand can add to its "units of trust," while negative experiences can detract from it.What Do We Need Our Clients to Believe?: Melanie and Phil explored the idea of shaping customer beliefs. They discussed the need for marketers to clearly communicate the value of their product or service and how it can solve the customer's problem.Signaling Commitment: The conversation concluded with a discussion on signaling commitment. This involves showing customers that the company is invested in their success and is committed to providing excellent service. This can be done through actions such as following up on inquiries promptly and going the extra mile to meet customer needs.Melanie shared tons of valuable insights into the role of trust in modern marketing. Both Melanie Deziel and Phil Gerbyshak highlighted the importance of authenticity, empathy, and commitment in building and maintaining trust with customers. How do you decide who to trust in your business? When you're thinking about joining a program or hiring a service provider, do you make those people earn your trust, or do you just default to trusting them? When we first meet someone new, we want to believe the best in people. We want to believe that they are trustworthy, so we trust them until they give us a very good reason not to. However, today on the podcast, my guest and co-host of Duped, Maggie Patterson, is turning that notion on its head. She believes that in online business, we should be skeptical at first until we're given a good reason to trust someone, that trust should be earned and not just given. So how do you earn trust and how do you know who to trust? Maggie and I are diving into all of that today. Maggie Patterson is the creator of Small Business Boss and has two decades of experience in communications, marketing, and client services. She's worked with everyone from solopreneurs to the world's biggest brands and today she's a mentor and advocate for do no harm business practices in the online space. She's the host of the BS Free Service Business podcast, and her work has been featured in leading publications such as Entrepreneur.com, Fast Company, and Virgin.com. In this episode: Why Maggie says “know, like, and trust” isn't enough when it comes to building trust in your business Why online businesses need to focus on earning trust through relationships, not manipulative marketing hacks What a major recent survey can tell us about the state of trust, leadership, and values in 2022 How Maggie performs a trust audit before doing business with anyone The five aspects of creating Trust DNA in your business Learn more about Maggie Patterson: Small Business Boss The BS‑Free Service Business Podcast Instagram: @smallbusinessboss Learn more about Michelle Mazur: Communication Rebel Three Word Rebellion Request a free 1:1 Chat Finally Nail Your Message Resources: Duped Podcast The Thin Book of Trust: An Essential Primer for Building Trust at Work, Charles Feltman 2022 Edelman Trust Barometer Trust Audit Checklist.pdf

She's worn a lot of hats and even decided to leave one of the top teams in the state to go solo as an investor agent. When she realized all the leads were coming from her own personal network, she decided to make the jump on her own. Now, she's actively flipping, buying, and selling homes for not only herself but her investor clients throughout the islands.
