    48 - My top 5 ‘woo' self-care habits

Play Episode Listen Later Nov 10, 2020 14:44

Friend, I know you hear about the importance of self-care all the time.  You know you have to take care of yourself.  But that doesn't mean it's easy.  Even when your mind and body are literally screaming at you to take care of yourself - in the form of stress, frustration, panic attacks, or something else - you still hustle and grind and put in more work.  I've been there.  In today's episode, I'm sharing about the time I literally broke out in hives from stress after secret shoppers left devastating reviews for my store. I'm not even kidding. For two weeks I had these awful, painful, full-body hives.  What's worse is that I just felt completely lost. Like I had no tools or ideas for getting myself grounded and back into a state of calm again.  If you're in this place today, I am here for you. You are not alone.    Think of this as your permission, from a coach, to finally put some tools in place for how you're going to take care of you.  Not just tools, but real chunks of time on your calendar to make it happen. My body being covered in hives was the wake-up call that I needed to start a self-care routine.  Before that, it was seriously lacking!  But I've since incorporated a handful of self-care habits that I cannot live without. I call them ‘woo' self-care habits because my husband and family kind of tease me for some of these things! So if you have some self-care rituals that your friends or family think are a little “weird” too, good for you! Be unapologetic in taking care of yourself! I'm proud of you, and I'm over here cheerin' you on. Keep doing those things that allow you to show up in the world as your best self.  Feel free to steal some of the habits I mention here or let them inspire you to create your own! Friends, I am so glad you're with me for today's show! My friend Alexander Kriech is here, and he's sharing how numerology can help us understand our strengths, habits, and personal relationships. Alex is a numerologist, intuitive, energy healer, and teacher. He helps people get clear on their own energy by validating their soul's experiences and putting that into words.    Today, he's going to explain what numerology is and how it can give you insight into your past and future.  To show an example, he'll be doing a live reading with me of my life path number. And you're going to want to stick around until the end, because he'll also go through all of the birth date life path numbers from 1 through 9.  So you can do a quick chart of your number by looking up your full birth date, and then listen along and see if you relate to his description of your soul! If you're thinking, “What? Life path number? How do chart that?” It's actually really easy! Just take the numerical value of your birth year, month, and day, and keep adding all of those numbers together until you end up with a single-digit number. Or, simply plug your birth date into this Life Path Calculator by Token Rock.    Ready for my conversation and numerology reading with Alexander Kriech!?  Press play!   Resources Mentioned in Today's Episode: Win a free distance or in-person Reiki session with me! 46 - The One Thing You Can't Ignore If You Want To Discover Your Life's Purpose

My beautiful friend, if there was just one piece of coaching advice that I could put in the heart of every woman leader out there, it would be this: In order to find your purpose, to lead from abundance, and to live a life of fulfillment ~ it is crucial that you quit ignoring your strengths. I believe this with every fiber of my being.  Discovering my strengths is what literally transformed me from an exhausted, overworked entrepreneur into a business owner with a schedule full of only things that light me up.  I know you might put up some resistance in hearing that I spend every day only doing tasks that I love, and that I do not run my businesses, or my life, from a place of hustle.  Even so, my company is having its best year yet. All the while, I'm also enjoying my relationships with my husband and our family and friends more than ever, and working less.  This may seem unreal to you because we are so conditioned to live in this push-through, work-harder mindset.  But I am dead serious when I tell you that once I quit trying to do it all, and started leaning into my natural gifts and talents and creating my to-do list around using them, my whole life changed.  From my own experience and from working with clients, I've come to recognize a pattern in people who are ignoring their strengths.  So for today's episode, I put together a list of 3 signs that indicate you have a routine or schedule that does not match up with your gifts and purpose.  If you see yourself in any of these signs, I want you to know that today is not a day to feel down about your schedule or your choices. Today is a day to celebrate that you are taking a huge, important step in becoming the leader and woman you want to be.  Doing self-inventory is no joke, and I'm proud of you for showing up.  Follow these signs and see if you relate to them. If you do, at the end of the episode, I have a way you can get $10 off of your Strengthsfinder assessment, so you can discover your strengths and take this important step in turning your life around, too. Friends, I literally cannot wait for you to hear this interview with the beautiful and talented Molly Bruggeman.  Molly and I connected when she became a coaching client of mine this past spring.  As you'll hear her explain, when we started our coaching sessions, on paper, her career looked like a dream. She worked full-time, was using her degree, had benefits, earned a salary that paid for everything she could need, had her own desk inside a big office…. And yet..even though this job seemed like it should be something she felt excited about...she found herself waking up every day and dreading going into work.  She felt completely drained when her shift was over.  She knew she wasn't using all of her talents to her full potential at work.  Can you relate? ✋✋ I can totally see myself in Molly's story, and I'm willing to bet many of you can, too. You'll hear how she uncovered her strengths and took that first leap in believing in herself (even though anxiety was rearing it's ugly head and telling her not to) and completely turned things around in her work and life.   I have goosebumps just thinking about it.   I can't wait for you to join us in today's episode! (This is a huge one I think for a lot of us now that we are deep into February and that initial excitement of our New Year's goals is almost two months behind us!) This thought that you create what you yourself need really resonated with me!  I realized that while I have been spending a lot of my time recently creating an entire podcast season and an online course dedicated to teaching women business owners how to hire the right people, I have also been right there in the trenches alongside all of you!  Over the past few months, I have been hiring in my own business and making some notable hiring blunders too.  Since I talk to so many women entrepreneurs and coaching clients who share their hiring successes and failures with me, I thought today's show would be the perfect opportunity to flip that script and let you in on my 7 biggest hiring mistakes that I've made within the last year.  You guys know I am a huge believer in learning by failing forward. Failing when you own a business (or do anything really that is worth doing!) just comes with the territory.  I can honestly say that with each of these mistakes that I am going to share with you, I learned so many valuable lessons that have only made my team and hiring process all the better going forward.  My goal is for you to learn from my hiring mistakes too, so you can hopefully avoid having to go through them yourself.  So if you're ready, let's tackle some of my biggest hiring mistakes and learn from them together.  Press Play Now!  P.S. Play Episode Listen Later Mar 3, 2020 18:38

I wanna know, who started this claim that we have to “do it all” in order to run a successful business?  Have you ever thought, “If I just push a little bit harder, then I'll be able to get XYZ done,” or  “If I just work late three days this week and maybe a little bit on Saturday, then I'll finally, maybe, be caught up.”  I know I totally have, and maybe you have too.  It's so easy to get caught up in this thinking that if you push through a little more, or work a few more hours, or sacrifice more of your personal life for your business, that you'll reach this place of feeling accomplished and content.  You're even more likely to fall into this mindset if you really love what you do. You're passionate, hardworking, and more often than not, you say “yes” to giving more of yourself to others.     I know all of this VERY WELL. If you weren't passionate about your business, there's no way you would've had the courage to start in the first place! Adam Grant, a research professor, author of workplace psychology books, and famous TED Talk presenter reworked a famous quote and I kind of like it. You may know the famous line, "Do what you love and you'll never WORK a day in your life.” He remade it into, "Do what you love and you'll kind of work all the time.” And it's true! If you love something you'll get rather obsessive with it and it can quickly consume you. But if you are the woman who feels like you're constantly working but not really getting anywhere. Or the woman who loves her business but is feeling more and more completely exhausted by it that you're thinking of giving it up. Then pay attention my beautiful, passionate friend, because I have some thoughts for you! In my 10 + years of being a small business owner, I have felt the most in control, and the most empowered, not on the days when I had my hand in every single part of my business, but on the days when I stepped back and let my team take ownership.  I'll repeat that for you ladies in the back:  The key to taking back control of your business is to quit doing it all, relinquish control & empower others to take on some of the ownership.  Letting go is not weak, it's actually really really powerful!  It means getting back your time and energy, and igniting that fire that you had when you first started your business and were so excited about it every single day. It also means having the freedom to step away from your business if you need to because you have an out-of-this-world team at your back handling everything until you return.  You are amazing and you deserve to wake up each day and love what you do. So if you're ready, let's dive into today's show and find out how to get off the hamster wheel and start letting go. Press play now! P.S. We've all heard the saying, “Hire slow and fire fast.” But did you know this also applies to you as the owner of your business?  I know you're thinking, “Well, that's cute Chelsea. But I can't fire myself! I mean, I created this business. I built it from the ground up! So if I'm not the right person for this job, then tell me - who is?!”  Firing yourself does sound crazy, right?! But think about it. If you had an employee who kept putting off tasks and not getting things done every week, would you be okay with that?  You would address this if you saw it happening within your business, right? But think about your own behavior in recent months. Do you have tasks that you keep pushing off until tomorrow - and then the next day,  and then the next - because you dread doing them? You know the tasks I'm talking about here, and I'm sharing mine with you in this episode!  These are the tasks that when you finally get around to doing them, after shoving them aside for days, maybe even weeks, it takes you so long to finish them.. that by the time you're done, you have zero energy left to do anything else for the day. We've all had this happen to us!  It is a feeling of defeat and it happens to the best of us and while yes you got those tasks done, in the back of your mind you know it didn't actually do much to serve your customers or move your business forward, even though it required a lot of your time and energy.  If this is resonating with you, then it is time to fire yourself. But this doesn't mean you have to close up shop and quit your business. Not at all!   It means it's time for you to automate, eliminate, or delegate some tasks to other people so you can get back to being productive, and not just busy! I'm going to help you determine if it is time to fire yourself and find out what you can do about it on today's show. What's it like for them to go over job expectations and to be challenged to grow? To answer some of these questions, and to give you someone else's perspective on the hiring process that we've laid out for you in this season of the podcast, today on the show I am welcoming the lovely Allison Tuttle. You know you need to delegate some things in your business, but you're stuck! Hiring someone full-time seems like a huge step, and you're not ready to make that leap.  Guess what my beautiful friend? You don't have to hire full-time right away! What you can do instead, and what I often do at Chelsea's, is hire someone part-time (even for as little as 5 or 10 hours a week) to do a handful of related tasks that they do very, very well and thrive doing! This takes the pressure off of having to hire someone to take on a lot of hours right away, and it also ensures that the person you do hire will really, in core segments, help save you time and take things off your plate.  I have over 20 employees at Chelsea's, but if I add up all of their hours, altogether they probably work about as much as five full-time employees would. But instead of having five people who are possibly only partially working in their strengths, I have a large team of people, each of whom is super-honed in on their area of expertise and strengths.  I know this might seem different than any other model of business out there, but to be honest, that is totally okay! Everyone's business is unique, and this is what works for us, even if it is unexpected.  I want you to have the courage to create the team that works for your business too—no matter what anyone else's looks like!  Join me in today's episode of the podcast to learn more about my winning team and for ideas and inspiration on how you can build your own.  -Chelsea of Underneath the Clothes and BusinessOnPurpose.co

Can you believe we're fast-approaching a new year, a new decade even?  Before jumping into everything 2020 has in store for us, it's important to first reflect on everything that happened in 2019. We don't have to live in the past, but understanding where we've been is crucial to getting to where we want to be. I always take December 31 off of work and spend the day reflecting on the previous year. I go through my journal and calendar entries and reflect on all the ups and downs and celebrations and failures that happened. Then, I take what I learned about myself during this process and decide what I want to have more of in my life in the year ahead, and what I want to leave behind me for good.  I'm not gonna sugar coat it—this type of deep reflection is emotionally hard work! But I promise it is worth it. Putting in this work before you jump into a new year will bring you all the closer to the most extraordinary version of YOU.  In this episode of Underneath the Clothes Podcast, I'm sharing: My step-by-step process for reflecting on the year. How I'm choosing my word for 2020 that represents my goals. How I close out each year by leaving any hurt, fear, anger, and guilt behind.

I am celebrating because I know this episode is going to change your business (and life!) for the better, and I can't wait to share it with all of you! For some people, the term “setting expectations” might seem a little scary. Maybe you're picturing yourself having to give a stern lecture to someone else, or giving a boring presentation on rules, rules, and more…rules. But I promise this is not the case! Setting expectations means you are laying the groundwork for open communication and accountability, and that happens BEFORE you hire. At Chelsea's, we go over two sets of expectations during every interview: 1)      Employee's Expectations, and 2)      Manager's Expectations. That's right friends, expectations are a two-way street. We expect a lot out of our employees, but we also want them to know they can expect a lot from us as their managers. Today's show is all about communicating those expectations, and you'll walk away knowing: 1)      How to identify your expectations and why it's important to go over them during the interview process. 2)      Some examples of effective expectations for both employees and managers, and 3)      The benefits of having your employees take ownership of their expectations. Next week, I am launching something BIG at the Underneath the Clothes Podcast, and in today's episode, I am giving you a front row seat to all the exciting things I have planned JUST for you! In a nutshell, hiring the right people is everything. Maybe you know you are at the point where you could hire one or more employees, but you have no idea where to even start. Or maybe you have hired people in the past, only to have them quit within a few weeks, leaving you back at square one of the hiring process. Heck, maybe you already do have the best team ever, but are struggling to show them you care and to build up that fun and dedicated work environment we all crave. I am so passionate about the hiring process, and hiring the RIGHT people, and it all starts with knowing your strengths and weaknesses and finding people who can complement those. This episode is all about how my team and how their strengths keep this disorganized girl organized, but it is also an invitation to join me for the next six weeks as I dive deep into the topic of hiring. If you are ready to grow your business, I truly believe you can do it one of two ways. You can either put in 80 hours a week, sacrifice time with your family, and let your business take control of your life. I've been there, and it caused me so much burn out that I almost lost everything. The other option that I've found to be so much better? You can hire a team who keeps things running smoothly in your absence, who steps into the gaps, and who can help you take all of your big dreams and turn them into completed goals. You deserve to run your business, instead of it running you. As entrepreneurs, we tend to never have enough time, could it be because you are spending 90% of your time, like I was, focusing on the wrong things? In today's episode I'm going to share with you something we implemented into our business that in one year helped us grow by $100,000 AND spend 90% LESS on advertising! Because anyone can grow their business by 100,000 and do it by spending more on advertising and marketing, but what we did was actually the opposite. What we're going to be talking about today is The Hedgehog Concept. So before jump into the hedgehog concept I have a question for you. If you could choose to be a fox or hedgehog, which would you choose? Most people would choose to be a fox. Foxes are beautiful, sleek and cunning. Where hedgehogs are small, prickly creatures that are quite the opposite: slow, quiet and really kind of silly looking. So, what do foxes and hedgehogs have to do with your business's success? It has EVERYTHING to do with it! It's all about learning the art of simplicity, like a hedgehog, and creating a clear focus for your organization. So let's talk about why it pays to be a hedgehog rather than a fox and what exactly is this hedgehog concept? It's time for you to bring in your focus and create your own hedgehog concept. This is your action step of the week! Sign up for my newsletter here: http://eepurl.com/dNX1Rw and I will send you our hedgehog concept and how to create your own so that you can focus your business & grow. Once you come up with your concept, then it's time to start taking inventory on where you are spending your time and where are things no longer aligned. As always, I'd love to hear from you! #1 - The WHY Behind the Podcast

With each episode, my goal is to inspire and empower you take charge of your life and your business. Being an entrepreneur for over a decade has taught me a lot fun, but often hard lessons. I have gained a ton of knowledge in almost all realms of owning and operating a business and I know I can help you save money and grow your profit all while working less and taking control over your business, instead of it controlling you. Because, let's be honest, entrepreneurship is hard! I'm not here to glamorize it and tell you starting a business, opening a 2nd location or year-over-year growth is fun & rewarding! It's difficult. It's scary. And it's incredibly lonely. My goal, is to make it a little less difficult, a little less scary & a LOT less lonely. I have literally been through it all from the brink of bankruptcy (after an incredibly messy divorce) to completely bouncing back, IN. THE. SAME. YEAR. and having my biggest year ever! I've had years of being my only employee to now managing over 15. I started with running my facebook account off my personal page to now having a full time Brand & Content Manager that runs our Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest & Youtube channels. And I do it all without working a single day on the floor of my business, my sole job is to empower my employees and stay focused on the overall vision of the company, which is what I'm best at and what no other person can do the way that I can. For a decade of my life, which equals exactly ⅓ of my life (I just turned 30) I have been Chelsea of Chelsea's Boutique. I've been the lady who owns a clothing store. But what I have learned, what I have to share with you is far beyond clothes and how to run a successful boutique. What I have to share with you is so much deeper. What I have to share with you is underneath the clothes. I am so incredibly excited to start this journey and to have you along with me. Starting a podcast has been on my #4 goal list of my top 25 goals I want to accomplish in my lifetime. My action item for you this week? What's sitting on your #4 list? What's holding you back from accomplishing your goals? I want to hear from you! Take a screenshot of this podcast, upload it to Instagram or Facebook with the tag @underneaththeclothes.
