This week on Leadership is Feminine, Kris Plachy offers a candid exploration of the employee-employer dynamic—and the personal responsibility that comes with being part of any team. With her trademark clarity and insight, Kris challenges listeners to rethink what it truly means to be employed: It's not just about time—it's about delivering results. Through thoughtful reflection and real-world examples, Kris unpacks why understanding basic business principles is essential for anyone who wants to thrive at work. She reminds us that employment is a two-way agreement, one that requires alignment, accountability, and honest communication. “Employers pay employees for results, not time,” she explains, inviting us to reconsider how we show up in our roles and what we expect in return. Kris also takes a closer look at the emotional experience of work—highlighting the toll of staying in roles that no longer serve us. Rather than settling for misalignment, she encourages listeners to explore new paths with courage and clarity. As she reminds us, “There is always a next step forward if you choose to make it.” Whether you're an employee looking to better understand your role, or a leader wanting to foster more intentional, empowered teams, this episode is a wake-up call. On average, when I look into a cafe's operational materials and systems, one of the main things that is either not developed well, developed but not updated, or just not there at all, are job descriptions. For many coffee businesses, there is a default to describing their growth and thus operation as "organic" and as a result, while some progress is made, they can tend to find themselves hitting a wall where everyone feels a constant sense of uncertainty that impact the business.  Today we will be talking about the good and the bad ways we create and utilize job descriptions in the cafe and how you can approach the use of them to serve your staff and customers well. As always, I hope you gain one or a few insight from this episodes that you put into practice to make a positive difference in the shop! Related Episodes:  244 : Top 10 Ways to Lose Employees

In this Power Producers Shoptalk episode, David Carothers continues his series with the team from Insurance Futures, diving into the importance of job descriptions for building a strong culture in remote teams. As remote work becomes more common, having clear job descriptions helps set expectations, boost accountability, and ensure employees understand their roles. David is joined by Jeremy Huerta, Michael Overstreet, and Caleb Walker from Heritage, an agency that has mastered the art of job descriptions. Together, they explore how detailed, concise job descriptions tied to core values and KPIs can lead to a more successful and productive remote team. Key Highlights: Why Job Descriptions Matter David starts by acknowledging that job descriptions are often overlooked, but in remote work environments, they're essential for clarity. Without clear expectations, employees can feel lost or uncertain about their role. Clarity and Simplicity in Job Descriptions The team stresses the importance of keeping job descriptions simple and straightforward. They emphasize that clear, concise language helps everyone understand exactly what's expected, without unnecessary complexity. Aligning Job Descriptions with Core Values Jeremy explains that job descriptions should align with the agency's core values. It's not just about duties—it's about ensuring employees know how their role contributes to the larger mission and culture of the agency. Linking Job Descriptions to KPIsCaleb discusses how job descriptions should reflect specific KPIs. By defining measurable tasks and goals, job descriptions create clear expectations and accountability for employees' performance. Job Descriptions as a Tool for Fit The team shares how transparent job descriptions help both the agency, and the employee assess if they're a good fit. By outlining the role clearly from the start, both parties can avoid surprises and ensure alignment with the agency's needs. Are you setting your new hires up for success or failure? In this episode, Andrea and Michelle challenge your onboarding approach. Revealing why setting clear expectations from day one is crucial for employee success and long-term performance.   Discover how to move beyond vague job descriptions and implement a strategic, backwards-planning approach. Learn how to create a roadmap for new employees, outlining expectations for their first months and years.    Andrea and Michelle also discuss the importance of providing milestones, consistent feedback, and developmental one-on-ones.    This episode will help you foster employee growth, reduce uncertainty, and cultivate a high-performing team.   Takeaways Setting clear expectations is crucial for new employees. Many leaders soften expectations to avoid stress. Progress should be the focus, not just meeting expectations. Backwards planning helps in setting a clear growth path. Job descriptions often lack clarity and detail. Regular one-on-ones are essential for feedback and support. Milestones help employees track their progress. Identifying struggles is an opportunity for growth.   For more resources on developing leadership skills visit us at Revela. She highlights the importance of clarity—knowing exactly what success looks like for a position before you even post a job. And the best part? You don't have to do it alone. Kris shares how AI tools like ChatGPT can help craft job descriptions, job postings, interview questions, and even onboarding plans—saving you time and energy. But hiring isn't just about filling a role. The real work is in assessing talent, setting expectations, and ensuring alignment with your business. Kris reminds us that the hardest part of hiring is the human part—connecting with candidates, reading their energy, and making sure they fit your culture. Veterinary professionals are often asked to take on extra responsibilities outside their original job descriptions. But when do these additional tasks justify a raise, a title change, or more recognition? In this episode of The Veterinary Viewfinder, Dr. Ernie Ward and Beckie Mossor, MPA, RVT, take a deep dive into this complex and sometimes controversial issue. They discuss real-world scenarios where veterinary staff are expected to assemble furniture, manage inventory, or handle client callbacks—duties that may not align with their clinical roles. Should these added tasks be considered part of the job, or do they warrant compensation adjustments? The hosts explore how veterinary teams can advocate for fair pay, navigate difficult conversations with management, and ensure their contributions are recognized. This insightful discussion is a must-listen for veterinarians, vet techs, practice managers, and anyone working in a veterinary practice looking to create a fair and motivated workplace.
