What else might be asked of a physician, dentist, nurse or other healthcare professional serving cross-culturally that may stretch, challenge, and sometimes frustrate the committed and called servant of Christ? Being prepared for such extra tasks and determining to be flexible and joyful might just surprise the new (or old) healthcare missionary who humbly approaches the extended job description. This week on Leadership is Feminine, Kris Plachy offers a candid exploration of the employee-employer dynamic—and the personal responsibility that comes with being part of any team. With her trademark clarity and insight, Kris challenges listeners to rethink what it truly means to be employed: It's not just about time—it's about delivering results. Through thoughtful reflection and real-world examples, Kris unpacks why understanding basic business principles is essential for anyone who wants to thrive at work. She reminds us that employment is a two-way agreement, one that requires alignment, accountability, and honest communication. “Employers pay employees for results, not time,” she explains, inviting us to reconsider how we show up in our roles and what we expect in return. Kris also takes a closer look at the emotional experience of work—highlighting the toll of staying in roles that no longer serve us. Rather than settling for misalignment, she encourages listeners to explore new paths with courage and clarity. As she reminds us, “There is always a next step forward if you choose to make it.” Whether you're an employee looking to better understand your role, or a leader wanting to foster more intentional, empowered teams, this episode is a wake-up call. Tune in to discover how taking ownership of your role in the workplace can lead to more satisfaction, stronger results, and a renewed sense of purpose. Key Takeaways From This Episode Understanding Employment Agreements: The importance of personal responsibility when accepting a job. Saying ‘Yes' is a Commitment: Emphasizing the seriousness of saying "yes" to a job and its expectations. Accountability in the Workplace: Misconception of accountability being a personal attack. On average, when I look into a cafe's operational materials and systems, one of the main things that is either not developed well, developed but not updated, or just not there at all, are job descriptions. For many coffee businesses, there is a default to describing their growth and thus operation as "organic" and as a result, while some progress is made, they can tend to find themselves hitting a wall where everyone feels a constant sense of uncertainty that impact the business. Today we will be talking about the good and the bad ways we create and utilize job descriptions in the cafe and how you can approach the use of them to serve your staff and customers well. As always, I hope you gain one or a few insight from this episodes that you put into practice to make a positive difference in the shop! Related Episodes: 244 : Top 10 Ways to Lose Employees

In today's conversation, hosts Jennifer Glass, Patricia Reszetylo, and Daniel McCraine dive into one of the most overlooked yet essential aspects of recruiting: crafting the perfect job description. Patricia shares practical strategies, like leveraging AI tools for brainstorming and being crystal clear about both core and “nice-to-have” competencies. The team also discusses the crucial distinction between internal job descriptions for your hiring team and external job postings for candidates, as well as little details like ensuring applicants follow instructions right in their responses. In this Power Producers Shoptalk episode, David Carothers continues his series with the team from Insurance Futures, diving into the importance of job descriptions for building a strong culture in remote teams. As remote work becomes more common, having clear job descriptions helps set expectations, boost accountability, and ensure employees understand their roles. David is joined by Jeremy Huerta, Michael Overstreet, and Caleb Walker from Heritage, an agency that has mastered the art of job descriptions. Together, they explore how detailed, concise job descriptions tied to core values and KPIs can lead to a more successful and productive remote team. Key Highlights: Why Job Descriptions Matter David starts by acknowledging that job descriptions are often overlooked, but in remote work environments, they're essential for clarity. Without clear expectations, employees can feel lost or uncertain about their role. Clarity and Simplicity in Job Descriptions The team stresses the importance of keeping job descriptions simple and straightforward. They emphasize that clear, concise language helps everyone understand exactly what's expected, without unnecessary complexity. Aligning Job Descriptions with Core Values Jeremy explains that job descriptions should align with the agency's core values. It's not just about duties—it's about ensuring employees know how their role contributes to the larger mission and culture of the agency. Linking Job Descriptions to KPIsCaleb discusses how job descriptions should reflect specific KPIs. By defining measurable tasks and goals, job descriptions create clear expectations and accountability for employees' performance. Job Descriptions as a Tool for Fit The team shares how transparent job descriptions help both the agency, and the employee assess if they're a good fit. By outlining the role clearly from the start, both parties can avoid surprises and ensure alignment with the agency's needs. This episode is mostly me and Scotch (with a few surprises). I asked him to come on because I thought he would be the best person to help me talk about two topics - The comments associated with this meme when I posted it in December & the pros and cons of having a podcast with random dudes on the job. The second topic relates to a recent podcast with some controversy. We also talk about songs that once were relatable but now are not.
