Adam La Reau is the Founder of the non profit One Summit and Dianne Lynch is its Executive Director. On today's podcast, they will talk about this amazing organization, which pairs up United States Navy Seal members with Pediatric Cancer patients. The hope is that these kids will be taught life skills that will help them through their individual cancer battles. With Rock Climbing being the central activity, these kids learn such skills from the Navy Seals as courage, determination, resilience, and strength. These Navy Seals serve as mentors for the kids, and this mentorship can last many years, which is great news for both the Pediatric Cancer Patients, and for each Navy Seal.

Today's guest is Adam La Reau. Adam is the Co-Founder of O2X Human Performance, Founder of One Summit, and a former Navy SEAL Lieutenant Commander. After serving just over 11 years in the Navy, Adam knew that a common thread for him was (and still is) to serve others. He also knew that he wanted to start his own business. The coupling of these two passions led him to getting a Masters at the Harvard Kennedy School, which then helped him navigate the transition to starting both One Summit and O2X in 2014. One Summit is a non-profit focused on building resilience in children with cancer through experiential learning rock climbing events and powerful Navy SEAL mentor relationships with each patient. O2X is an organization that provides world class training and integrated educational experiences that improves the health, safety, and performance of the country's tactical populations (think first responders, military, and federal agencies) and other elite organizations. In this interview, we discuss Adam's upbringing and what inspired him to become a Navy SEAL, his time in the Merchant Marine Academy, and all things One Summit and O2X. Founded by former US Navy SEALs, O2X's comprehensive curriculum targets the specific issues facing tactical populations including high rates of injury, elevated cancer and cardiac health risks, and behavioral health issues commonly associated with high-stress work environments. O2X Human Performance is a revolutionary training and education program that is saving lives and building healthier, safer communities. Our core focus is to help firefighters and other tactical athletes improve their physical and mental readiness and increase their productivity. Put simply, O2X provides tactical athletes and elite organizations the tools they need to overcome the unique, job-related challenges they face while keeping their communities safe. Our mission is to provide science-backed, comprehensive training and education so that tactical athletes can finish their careers as strong as they start. The O2X Human Performance program is built on five pillars: conditioning, nutrition, sleep, stress mitigation, and resiliency development. Together, these pillars make up our Eat. Sweat. Thrive. methodology. Our program helps ensure that tactical athletes enjoy the healthy retirement years they work so hard to earn. The O2X tailored curriculum offers a systematic approach to making small, incremental improvements that lead to sustainable lifestyle changes and maximize performance in all phases of life, on and off the job. First responders and members of the military have physically and mentally demanding jobs. To tackle those jobs effectively, they need to be in shape physically and mentally. But most first responders have erratic schedules that make working out difficult, so that many don’t, and consequently suffer from injuries and poor health. My guest today is a former Navy SEAL on a mission to solve that problem. His name is Adam La Reau, and he's the founder of O2X, an organization dedicated to training tactical athletes. Adam walks us through the unique challenges soldiers and first responders have when it comes to physical fitness and explains his philosophy on training “tactical athletes.” We then discuss insights civilians can take away from how first responders train, including making time for working out on an erratic schedule, managing stress, and making recovery a priority. We end our conversation discussing the other organization Adam founded called One Summit, which pairs children who have cancer with a Navy SEAL mentor who helps the kids gain greater resilience through rock climbing.
