You never know when you're going to wake up one day with a brain tumour, so stop waiting to live your life until the timing seems right, and start living it NOW. That is Elliott's message - having survived brain surgery and and deciding to go all-in on inspiring others through his photography and his love of life.Elliott Howell is a travel, product, and brand photographer who was living a beautiful, full life until one fateful Sunday night when he had a seizure and within moments, his entire life changed. He was rushed to the hospital where he spent the next 20 hours undergoing all kinds of tests and scans, finally to discover that he has a massive 2.5-inch cancerous brain tumour. Elliott had awake brain surgery and then had to go through radiation. With the help from his friends and his GoFundMe, Elliott went all in on his recovery: reorienting his diet, and quitting his job. Now, years later, his MRI looks great - the scan is stable and there's no sign of anything to worry about. He continues to do a low-carb, zero-sugar, no alcohol diet and goes to the gym multiple times per week. He's ramping up work again as a visual artist with brands in the lifestyle and travel spaces (products, hotels, tourism boards, agencies). His portfolio is here, and his Instagram is here.In this show we talk about what diet did for his health, what he learnt from a diagnosis giving him 8-10 years to live, and how it feels to face such difficult news. I've been blessed to cross paths with some of the most dynamic, impactful souls across the planet through my involvement in Mindvalley, SOMA Breath, and other global communities. One of these is Piotr Ciepiel, who I met during a breathwork retreat in Ibiza, Spain. His evolution - which includes healing from cancer - is a powerful demonstration of the transformation that is possible when we untether our lives. Piotr, MiFit Mindful Fitness founder, takes his transformative body / mind / energy programs worldwide. A dynamic public speaker, retreat leader, and breath master, he guides people to embrace emotions, vulnerability, and authenticity. A health and wellbeing advocate, Piotr shares his cancer and chemotherapy journey, compelling us to prioritize physical and mental health now. This invigorating, inspiring discussion, touches on numerous topics, including: How Piotr's cancer diagnosis at 28 forced him to re-examine the "templates" he'd had been following in terms of lifestyle, health, and career decisions. What Piotr did to interrupt and completely transform his life by embracing mindfulness, breathwork positive self-talk and unlocking his true "superhuman" powers How retreats and in person events can 10x the benefits of informational resources for breathwork, physical fitness, public speaking, and many other personal transformation disciplines widely available online; how they can deliver the true benefits of sangha, or community How breathwork offers a powerful one-two punch of research-based science and soul-shaping spirituality, and can "bring you to places that you've never been before" The philosophy behind Piotr's MiFit ("mindful fitness") platform and programs like "Unpack Yourself," which bring together activation, strength training and awareness to everyday activities like taking a walk, to more transformational peak experiences like retreats in San Miguel de Allende, Ibiza, and Marrakech. Jocelyn finally rang the bell, finishing treatments in January of 2021. The time off treatment hasn't been easy for Jocelyn, it's been a roller-coaster of unknowns and ups and downs with her health. And yet, through it all, Jocelyn passionately continues to give back to the childhood cancer community that helped her through her own journey. She became the 2021 Girl of the Year for The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of San Diego, and her amazing mom was also part of the Man and Woman of the Year for LLS organization in 2022! Through all of the unknowns Jocelyn is thriving. She is making leaps and bounds in school, playing club soccer, enjoying her busy social life with friends, planning fundraisers to help make dreams come true for other kids fighting cancer and the best part, making up for the lost time that cancer stole from her. He had 7 tumours in his head and neck area and his prognosis wasn't good. This external appearance of the cancer meant that John became a recluse, not working or leaving the house. After some traumatic diagnostic tests and past research into traditional cancer treatments such as radiotherapy, John began to seek alternative solutions for his problems via alternative therapies. John takes full responsibility for his mental and physical health and he believes that what you focus on is what you manifest. Diet changes, fasting, meditation, cannabis oil were all things John embraced in order to prepare his body to fight the cancer. The diligent work John was doing outside of traditional cancer treatments is what he believes made the difference, what cured his terminal diagnosis as he was treating the root cause. John believes that his cancer was caused by how he was living his life and the anger he felt at the world and many people around him. His mentality was toxic. BEST MOMENTS “They gave me 3 months to live” “I've been called a bit of a fruit loop in my past” “You become what you focus on the most” “Don't put your life into other people's hands, take responsibility for your own health and do what you can because otherwise, you're just a victim” “When your body is in a fasting state your immune system is at its optimal level” “Forgiveness is a gift for yourself” VALUABLE RESOURCES CONTACT METHOD Instagram Facebook Twitter ABOUT THE GUEST John Bygraves has been dubbed a Stage 4 Cancer Warrior & Wounded Maverick Healer, guiding individuals to reset the internal terrain for the body, mind and spirit to thrive. John decided to take full responsibility and take his power back by taking his health into his own hands and delved deep into a mental, physical, emotional & spiritual powerfully transformational healing journey spanning over six years. Welcome to the series finale of The Cancer Mavericks. In this final episode, we reflect on the first seven episodes through the lens of history and progress with a series of insightful conversations featuring some of healthcare's most influential and visionary voices across the past four decades. If history is a teacher, we have learned that change can happen, albeit slowly. But it is only when the people stand up, organize and activate their voices demanding change, that the culture will shift, the institutions will pivot, and the very system itself will be forced by the will of the citizens to bend towards the arc of justice. I thank God that He has allowed me to be strong enough to endure this and to show my family and friends that I am a “she cancer warrior”. -Tona Hines October is breast cancer awareness month and sadly, the statistics have not improved. 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime and this is a disease that affects the woman and her whole family. In this episode, we're shining a spotlight on two-time breast cancer survivor Tona Hines. Diagnosed with stage 1 breast cancer at 40, this devoted mother of two didn't require any treatment beyond surgery the first time around. Ten years later, everything changed. Tona was diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic breast cancer. Her story would not be complete without the support she has received from The Ellie Fund, www.elliefund.org, a non-profit devoted to supporting patients, funding care and providing hope. Meredith Mendelson, Executive Director of the non-profit shares the story of Ellie Popkin for whom the charity is named, and it's mission to serve 1200 patients per year by 2023. #mbc #breastcancer #elliefund

To say Steven is inspiring is an understatement. One of the biggest takeaways for me is Steven's attitude & how he has managed and dealt with a devastating diagnosis and the multiple afflictions that followed. We talk about how important it is to have the right medical team for "you" and the support of Family and Friends. Along with Steven's unrelenting determination, grit and dedication to fitness, his story and recovery is an example we all can learn from. A super-special podcast episode is in store for you as everyone from Writeway and The Real Story takes a moment to recognize June as National Cancer Survivor Month in honor of the nearly 17 million cancer survivors in the U.S.To cap it off, Joe sits down with his wife, communications and marketing specialist and cancer survivor, Anna Tower-Kövesdi, as the couple observes six months since she was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL). With both candor, and surprising levity, they discuss the seemingly insurmountable challenge of facing “The Big ‘C',” from the shock and horror of the diagnosis, to the logistical stress of putting yourself in the best position to get the right care. In the end, as Anna notes, much of the coping is about the rigorous practice of acceptance and "pause." There are numerous ways you can help bring about progress in the treatment and cure of many types of cancer. Consider donating to a fundraising or educational organization such as The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, or local cancer not-for-profits. For more information about Joe and Anna, or to help as they continue their battle, you can follow Anna's journey on Instagram @koevia, and/or visit their GoFundMe drive at Support Anna and Joe Tower with Medical Expenses. Cynthia Besteman was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2011 and threw out all of her toxic skincare products when she realized that they weren't the “natural” products they promised to be. In 2015 Violets Are Blue is launched. She used her knowledge and passion for naturally-derived skincare ingredients to formulate a consciously-produced line of products, each one a true labor of love. In addition to developing new products for the Signature and Beloved lines, Cynthia provides patients at the Mt. Sinai Dubin Breast Center in NYC with a gifted package of Beloved products upon their first day of chemotherapy. She is also proud to have created a company that supports women helping women, with 10% of the purchase price of all products going toward skincare donations for cancer patients. Born in Seattle, Cynthia first landed in New York City determined to find her way as an actress, after completing a major in theater at the University of Oregon. She worked on Broadway for 10 years before checking out the real estate scene and quickly became one of the top brokers in the city. After receiving a breast cancer diagnosis in 2011, Cynthia's successful career in the cutthroat world of New York City real estate came to a skidding halt. While undergoing treatment, one of her first actions was to toss out all beauty products containing unsafe chemicals and synthetic fragrances, leaving her medicine cabinet bare. She was shocked by the mislabeling of many skincare and beauty products that were classified as “natural” while containing parabens, sulfates, and other chemicals known to work as endocrine disruptors linked to cancer and reproductive concerns. KEY TAKEAWAYS: Cynthia wanted to bring dignity back to the women being treated for breast cancer. She created her “Beloved” line which is specifically formulated for women dealing with cancer. Cynthia wants women dealing with breast cancer to be called “warriors” instead of “thrivers and survivors” as she believes that puts too much pressure on people. She helped with the Cancer Wellness Expo in New York City – inviting “ultimate warriors” to come together. Loves speaking about her journey – because you can go through something and come out better. She launched her company in her 50s. She says if you know you want to make changes in your life – take action. As long as you have the passion or start the journey to find the passion – it's exciting. CYNTHIA'S 3 BEST TIPS FOR LIVING A GOOD LIFE: Be authentic to you not to anyone else.
