All too often, law enforcement programs are unevenly focused on mental well-being or physical well-being. John and the team at O2X leverage a scientific, holistic approach to address the specific issues facing tactical populations, including high rates of injury, elevated cancer and cardiac health risks, and behavioral health issues. While originally designed to meet the unique demands of tactical athletes, the science-backed methodology has been successful with Olympic and collegiate athletes, professional sports organizations, and other top-tier organizations.    To learn more about O2X, visit:  https://www.o2x.com/ Listen to the O2X Tactical Performance Podcast on the platform of your choice.

Dan Cnossen was serving as the platoon commander for SEAL Team One in Afghanistan in September 2009 when he stepped on an IED (improvised explosive device) and was wounded in the explosion. The accident caused Cnossen to lose both of his legs just above the knee. He went through rehabilitation first at the Bethesda National Naval Medical Center and later at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center where he learned to walk with his new prosthetics. Dan was awarded both a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star with Valor from the Secretary of the Navy for his service in combat. We talk about how Dan recovered from this life changing injury, how he pivoted and became a Paralympian to compete in the 2014 and 2018 winter games, winning the Gold Medal in the Biathalon in 2018 winter games, how he sets goals and the actionable steps to get there, how he has become a huge influence for other wounded warriors by telling his story, and how he continues to serve through multiple platforms, to include non-profit organizations like One More Wave and Classroom Champions, and working with the for-profit organization O2X to help other military and first responders with resilience training. Stress effects people in different ways. Most people think stress is negative, but stress applied in an appropriate way can actually make us stronger. The international spread of a dangerous virus is creating an environment of tremendous stress; rather than wring our hands in worry or complain about annoying "shelter in place" guidelines, we can actually take this opportunity to develop strategies for dealing with the stress to become stronger, more resilient and capable of overcoming any obstacle life might throw in the way. This episode features not one but two guests from O2X, an organization dedicated to optimizing human performance. First responders and members of the military have physically and mentally demanding jobs. To tackle those jobs effectively, they need to be in shape physically and mentally. My guest today is a former Navy SEAL on a mission to solve that problem. His name is Adam La Reau, and he's the founder of O2X, an organization dedicated to training tactical athletes. Adam walks us through the unique challenges soldiers and first responders have when it comes to physical fitness and explains his philosophy on training “tactical athletes.” We then discuss insights civilians can take away from how first responders train, including making time for working out on an erratic schedule, managing stress, and making recovery a priority.
