As mentioned in our previous episode, September is our History Month in honor of Angela Romero, and in this first episode of the series Amanda visits her childhood church Trinity Lutheran Church which just celebrated its centennial this summer. Pastor Nathan Hoff who has been with the church for seventeen years as head pastor and Sue Scott, retired Deaconess and long time member, share with us Trinity Lutheran's fascinating origin story. Trinity Lutheran, originally founded in 1921 in San Pedro, has deep roots in our early Norwegian fisherman community. Pastor Nathan also shares the theology and basis behind Lutheranism, its role in the Christian denomination spectrum and also addresses what he refers to as “church hurt”. You'll also hear some personal stories from Sue Scott about her introduction to Trinity in 1980 as an intern where she met her husband Tobiah Scott. The Scott family has been part of Trinity Lutheran since the late 1950's when Bob Scott, Tobiah Scott's father spearheaded the renovation of the church facade which is still standing today. This was such a fun episode, especially for Amanda, who grew up in this church as well as with Sue and Tobiah's daughter and still remain very close to the family. A few months ago in April, our community lost an amazing woman to health complications after fighting cancer for nearly a year, Angela “Romee” Romero. She was an active learner and preserver of our local history, a story teller of the history she discovered and an educator to anyone with a curiosity about this town. Her work will continue to impact how we move forward in this new era and her last and most ambitious endeavor, the San Pedro Heritage Museum, a vision of hers we hope will be realized one day, will be a lasting legacy for this town. It is in her honor that we are starting a new series of episodes in the month of September focusing on local history; This month she would have celebrated her 44th birthday. In this episode Amanda sits down with two good friends of mine, but more importantly, two good friends of hers who know her and her work very well, Megan Barnes and Joshua Stecker. We discuss a bit of her biography, review her professional work and really get into her love and passion for San Pedro's history and culture. By Michael Tetreault, Editor Today, we catch up with two of the most dynamic and unique individuals you will ever meet in healthcare. It is my pleasure to introduce you to KC Devine Raver, FNP-C and Angela Romero, Founder and Owner of Angela Romero Insurance Agency, Inc., both in Albuquerque, NM. This is part of a unique educational series by the Direct Primary Care Journal (DPC Journal), Concierge Medicine Today (CMT) and our DocPreneur Podcast on the growing trend and success of DPC-FNP clinics and their rising popularity across the U.S. since 2018 and beyond. Angela started the Angela Romero Insurance Agency, Inc. (ARIA) in 2002 and is passionate about serving her clients with the respect and attention she feels individuals deserve no matter the size of the company. For the past several years, Angela has been committed to keeping on top of the daily changes in the Health Insurance industry due to the Affordable Care Act and is ACA certified. Angela belongs to many professional organizations locally and nationally including, the Rio Grande Association of Health Underwriters (where she has served two terms as the Education chair), The National Association of Health Underwriters and Michelle Lujan Grisham's Health Care Advisory Council. She currently sits on the board of the New Mexico Insurance Nominating Committee, Office of the Superintendent and the Heart Gallery Foundation of NM. As a membership family practice, called Direct Primary Care, Well Life ABQ is able to schedule enough time with you to actually get to know you and listen to you. Instead of quickly writing a prescription or referring you to another provider, we work with you to overcome your health problems through nutrition, lifestyle, supplements and even medicine when necessary. Katherine "KC" Devine Raver is a Family Nurse Practitioner with over 20 years of experience as a Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner. She has worked in a variety of settings. She was born and mostly raised in Albuquerque. She completed high school in Hawaii and earned her Bachelors of Nursing from the University of Hawaii. As an Army Nurse, she specialized in Pediatrics and spent most of her Army career in the Neonatal Intensive Care. She has also lived in South Carolina, Virginia, Texas and Washington, DC. She moved to Amarillo in 2013 and practiced as a Nurse Practitioner in a pediatric clinic that mostly served Medicaid and refugee patients. Having always been attracted to alternative treatment options, in 2015 she was able to join Well Life Family Medicine and start her journey into all the things Integrative Medicine has to offer. She feels that both models have something to offer. Well Life ABQ is a great option with or without insurance. Most providers have 800-900 patients on their "panel". They don't know who you are and they are so booked with appointments, they only have a few minutes to see you. Through the use of membership, Well Life ABQ is able to only have a patient panel of 300-400. That means you aren't just a number, you are a person. In addition to your regularly scheduled visits, we keep appointments (online and in-person) open for sick visits AND we can respond to questions in a timely manner. In our practice, we believe prevention is the key to lifelong health and wellness. We are committed to helping you get well, stay well and live well. It is our mission not only to heal, but to inspire and motivate our patients to embrace and follow a path leading to wellness and a healthy long life. The tax reform bill that was passed in December by a special session of the Utah Legislature was soundly repudiated by a referendum drive that collected the required number of signatures before the regular session of the legislature began in January. Lawmakers subsequently repealed the tax reform bill. We wondered: what about now? Is there still a need for reform? What should happen next? What is likely to happen next? We'll talk with the organizer of the referendum drive, Fred Cox. Our guests will also include Rep. Norm Thurston, R-Provo, a Republican who voted against the bill and two Democrats, Rep.Susan Duckworth, D-Magna, and Rep. Angela Romero, D-Salt Lake City.
