Disney's Hollywood Studios is just a "junk drawer" of mismatched IPs like Star Wars, Toy Story, and Monsters Inc., according to Disney fans. 42% of the "pixie dusters" on Disney Food Blog seem to be turning on Disney, and it'll only get worse once Epic Universe opens. Disney's Hollywood Studios is a "junk drawer" of mismatched IPs like Star Wars, Toy Story, and Monsters Inc., with 42% of Disney Food Blog readers believing Disney is quietly ruining the park. The Star Wars area in Hollywood Studios is described as ugly and boring, with a hodgepodge of elements that don't fit together cohesively. Current Disney CEO Bob Iger is criticized for not being creative, chasing out creatives, and prioritizing his own celebrity status and profit over Walt's Vision. Disney's over-reliance on acquisitions, especially Star Wars, is causing their parks to become unrecognizable, losing their identity and culture. Epcot is being particularly ruined by the addition of IP-based attractions like Guardians of the Galaxy, which critics argue doesn't belong in the park's original concept. Disney's focus on building more cruise ships (13 by 2030) is seen as a distraction from failing parks, with smaller ships introduced to charge more for less. Disney's decision to repurpose existing parks and attractions instead of building new, well-planned ones like Epic Universe is viewed as a major mistake. The removal of the Backlot Tour and Sound Stage in Hollywood Studios years ago has left the park with attractions that don't fit together cohesively.

In the 112th episode of The Main Street Electrical Podcast, Jenn & Dave say "Happy 4th Birthday to Andy's Backyard" aka, "Toy Story Land" in Hollywood Studios! Opened on June 30, 2018, it's a worthy addition to the classics in Hollywood! Plus, remembering The Backlot Tour, before doing a talk-through walkthrough of Toy Story Land, including taking a look at theming, Toy Story Mania, forgetting the game order, the old Pixar Place, Alien Swirling Saucers, Slinky Dog, and even a look at Toy Story Land in other parks around the world. And at the end, some breaking news that came in while recording -- Pooh, Tigger, Lilo, Stitch and more return to dining as three character meals are returning! Do we have a treat for you with our 50th episode of The Backlot Tour! A show normally only for Patreon supporters, we sometimes share an episode with all our listeners. This time, it's an interview with an aspiring film student, Colin Sanders, who produced a wonderful video essay surrounding Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice called: "A Modern Masterpiece: Why Batman v Superman is a True Work of Art." Colin's take: BvS is an absolute work of art and one of his favorite films of all times. A kindred spirit of Movie Defenders everywhere, we talk about his video essay and expand on many of the points he makes in it. Is BvS one of the worst piles of movie crap ever? Or is BvS an amazing, misunderstood work of art? Well, let's discuss! Want more shows like this? Head to https://patreon.com/moviedefenders and sign up! An opening day attraction, The Backlot Tour delighted (or bored) guests at Hollywood Studios until it closed to make way for Galaxy's Edge. While it was originally intended to be an insider's look at the film industry, it never quite managed to live up to Disney's expectations. We're taking a deep look at this once classic attraction this week! Music by Colin Paul

Main Topic The main topic this month is one of the recently closed classics, The Disney-MGM Studios Backlot Tour. There have been so many changes and updates over the years, but we are going to focus on the original, for the most part. How is our guide on this episode, walking us through the entire tram portion of the tour. We take it right back to 1989, going through how the Disney-MGM Studios actually worked. The concept of going past the theme park and then entering the studio - this is how the tour basically began. The walking tour was part of this, but we are not going to discuss this. The backlot tour had so many different aspects including residential street, the boneyard, the various production trailers, and so many other little nuggets. The tour seemed to change often, as far as props and items but the tour wasn't complete with a look at the Streets of America, or the New York street set. You would know this as the set for "The Lottery", which seems to be the only movie filmed here that we ever hear about. To accompany this episode, we have a great video on our YouTube channel - click here to watch after the episode! 2020: The Year of Film To make sure you are the first to know when items are released, subscribe to us on YouTube. Be sure to click the notification bell too, that way you are alerted when we post. Finally, be sure to check out Vimeo if that is your thing, as we will post there as well. This past month we have posted the Backlot Tour video, a ride around the monorail in 1991 and the 1994 runDisney Marathon. Enjoy! Next Month Join us next time for Episode 56, which we have not fully planned out, but you won't want to miss it Thanks for joining us!

Overview: Friend of the Show Gary Miceli is back, and today we're talking about fun experiences at Disney. We all have special memories of our trips to the park, we share ours and what makes them memorable! Notes: I think the changes coming to the studios will mean a lot of history will be lost....oh well, that's progress! Welcome to Episode 41 of the RetroWDW Podcast: "Fort Wilderness Railroad" - We appreciate your support and hope you have been enjoying each and every episode. Be sure to check out some of our previous shows. Corrections & Listener Mail Corrections - We get started with the infamous Contemporary Resort third floor. We did a little more digging and found out from some listeners that this is where the fitness center is located, along with some other various offices. The ceiling is noted as being lower, but most times the average guest has no reason to be there. We also heard that the ceiling is lower due to the monorail beam and infrastructure heights. - For the Skway, we dug into that extreme angle turn and how tight it actually was. Using aerial photography, we found it to be around sixty degrees. So this is somewhat different when compare to some other angles claimed. Listener Mail Big thanks to all the new "Binge Listeners" - we get tons of messages from new listeners who hit up the entire catalog at a rapid rate. This is so cool! Kathryn wrote in, asking about the old shops on Main Street. She brings up some miniature jelly jars from the Market House. How & Brian let us know all about this location and some of the history of Main Street. Listen carefully, as some of it is still there today for you to try... Anthony wrote in, as a former cast member, sharing some great operational manuals and information. These should guide some future episodes and answer lots of questions. Finally, Brent wrote to us as a new listener. He first listened to Episode 40 and found that it filled in a memory gap about a skyway/gondola ride from years ago. We also discuss the muskets that were once available at the Walt Disney World Resort. Thank you for all the emails, tweets and comments you have sent our way. We try to respond to almost everything and do our best to pick unique questions for the show. Audio Rewind First, we are giving away the Tammy Tuckey albums - Chris & Anna were our winners! They will each be contacted individually and congratulations! Our audio rewind this month turned out to be Remember The Magic! The winner is Kristin Rappold, winning a copy of Mouse Tales. Great job and thanks for playing along to everybody! Our second Prize Pot for 2018 has also started. The first item is: WDW Resort Pocket Sewing Kit Main Topic Fort Wilderness Railroad So this month, we take you back to Fort Wilderness. The main topic is the now removed Fort Wilderness Railroad that provided transportation inside the resort in a unique way. Todd has done his research, focusing on text and personal interviews to give us an amazingly detailed picture into the railroad. If you are familiar with Fort Wilderness, you know that they use the standard bus transportation for the internal resort loop. In the past, they even had the 'trams' that are very similar to the parking lots and also the now gone Backlot Tour. We focus though on a much earlier mode of transportation, the railroad. Todd goes into the history, construction, engineering and even some of the myths that have grown over the years. If you think you know why the railroad shut down, you might learn something new or something different in this episode. Fort Wilderness is a fan favorite, has a following and this will be some amazing and unknown history for tons of people. Hope you enjoy!
