This week, we're firing up the intensity with Heat, Michael Mann's epic 1995 crime saga that brought together two cinematic titans — Al Pacino and Robert De Niro — for the first time ever in a shared scene. (Yes, The Godfather Part II doesn't count — different timelines, folks.) Heat is a gritty, stylish, and emotionally charged cat-and-mouse thriller set against the moody backdrop of Los Angeles. Pacino plays Lt. Vincent Hanna, a relentless LAPD detective with a chaotic personal life and a flair for dramatic yelling. De Niro is Neil McCauley, a cool, calculating career thief who lives by a strict code: never get attached to anything you can't walk out on in 30 seconds flat if you feel the heat around the corner. After a high-stakes armored car heist goes sideways, Hanna starts closing in on McCauley and his crew, which includes a young, twitchy Val Kilmer and Tom Sizemore in full 90s tough-guy mode. The film builds toward one of the most iconic diner scenes in film history — a quiet, tense face-off between Pacino and De Niro — and ends with a pulse-pounding airport showdown you won't forget. With a killer supporting cast (Ashley Judd, Natalie Portman, Jon Voight, and even a blink-and-you'll-miss-him Henry Rollins), a haunting score, and shootouts that still influence action films today, Heat isn't just a movie — it's an experience. Stylish, sprawling, and full of moral gray areas, it's Michael Mann at the top of his game. So buckle up, because this week on Totally 80s and 90s Recall, we're diving deep into the heat, the heists, and that glorious late-90s energy. Don't miss it! Ill Communication, released in 1994, marked a high point for the Beastie Boys, blending their signature irreverent style with genre-hopping experimentation. The album saw the trio—Mike D, MCA, and Ad-Rock—seamlessly fuse hardcore punk, jazz-funk, and old-school hip-hop, with the standout single “Sabotage” becoming an anthem of the era. Its explosive bassline, distorted guitars, and aggressive delivery captured the Beasties at their rawest and most innovative. At the same time, tracks like “Sure Shot” and “Root Down” paid homage to their b-boy roots with tight rhymes and slick DJ work from Mix Master Mike. The album wasn't just about sonic chaos—it carried deeper, more mature undertones, reflecting MCA's growing interest in Buddhism and activism. For many fans—and clearly for us here at Totally 80's and 90's Recall—Ill Communication stands as a definitive '90s album that refused to be boxed in. It's wild, funny, political, and endlessly replayable. From punk mosh pits to chill jazz instrumentals like “Sabrosa,” the Beastie Boys proved they weren't just rap pranksters from the '80s—they were legit musical craftsmen. The album captured the eclectic energy of the decade and the spirit of reinvention that defined the Beasties' career. Whether you're blasting “Sabotage” in your car or grooving to the funky vibes of “Flute Loop,” this one hits as hard now as it did in ‘94. 1995 was a transitional year for what was known as “Alternative” music, as it started to become a melting pot of old and new styles in the post grunge world. Bands like Foo Fighters and Bush carried a little of the old grunge ideals, but with a more radio friendly style. Britpop and electronic based music started to become very popular. Huge albums from Alannis Morissette and The Smashing Pumpkins showed that songs about introspection, melody and evolution could be wildly popular. Also, with alternative bands having huge album sale numbers, Grammy wins and heavy rotation on MTV, the word alternative started to seem ironic. Alternative or indie rock had become mainstream and everyone had access, from angsty teens to their parents. Regardless of what it was called, the rock music of 1995 was still awesome. Call it alternative, or indie, or just rock. There was a plethora of styles, singers and bands to choose from and they were all very memorable. So this week we're making a 1995 alternative playlist of our favorites from a great year. So strap on your Doc Martens and fire up your favorite CD on your detachable face car stereo and let's jam out to some awesome music. Whether it was grunge, hip-hop or pop albums shaped the identity of entire generations. They weren't just music, there were statements, lifestyles and defining moments. Unlike today where you can access songs as a single streaming item, listening to an album in the 90s became an entire experience. Albums would have intro tracks, interludes, deep cuts and secret songs that you'd only find by listening to the whole record. This week, Dave and Rob look back at some popular albums that were released in the 90s and discuss some of the best music off of each and how they felt and still feel about each one. Some of the albums we both loved, some we both didn't and a couple we may be split on, but we'll have lots of fun going over it anyway. So whether it was the joy of going to the record store to get that album you'd been waiting for, going through the record bargain bins or borrowing a copy from someone else, albums in the 90s were a great experience that unfortunately will not be lived through again. Singers and groups have always been inspired by the music that came before them. In the 80s, many of these artists found key success by recording other bands or songwriters material or what is called a Cover. So why do musicians cover songs instead of writing their own? Well a variety of reasons as it turns out, tribute to influences, reaching a wider audience, live performance appeal, TV and film soundtracks, being directed by a studio or simply wanting to share a song that they may love. This week Dave and Rob look at some monster 80s songs that turned out, to their surprise, to be covers of previously recorded material. They'll go through the background and where the songs came from, and ultimately decide if the cover or the original was better. Ultimately, covering a song allows artists to connect with their audience in a whole different way, and sometimes propel them into superstardom. Whether through nostalgia or reinvention, covers can make us remember back to a song we liked, and allow us to like it even more as one of our favorite bands or singers re-records it. TV show theme songs started to grow up a little in the 90s. Instead of family friendly, poppy and catchy tunes, 90s TV shows started embracing more musical choices that reflected the changing times. In the 90s, TV execs started tapping into hip hop and alternative rock culture to ensure young people found the songs relevant. The old formula of the 70s and 80s gave way to more instrumental pieces and the use of pre-existing popular songs. On this week's episode, Dave and Rob look back at their favorite songs and relive how awesome they were in the 90s. As the 90s ended, TV theme songs started getting shorter, and by the mid 2000s, many shows abandoned them in favor of quick title cards. The 90s were one of the last decades where long, fully produced TV themes were the norm. From 90210 to Seinfeld, Saved By the Bell and Law & Order, 90s TV Themes give us a ton of great memories. Rap music in the 1980s was a groundbreaking and rapidly evolving genre that laid the foundation for modern hip-hop. It started as an underground movement in New York and transformed into a cultural phenomenon by the end of the decade. Early artists like the Sugarhill Gang and Kurtis Blow laid the foundation for artists like Run DMC, the Beastie Boys and LL Cool J to begin to bring rap to a larger audience. By the end of the 80s, rap was becoming big business and was very profitable for record companies. Rap was not without controversy throughout the 80s though, many political and other groups were against the style, sound and lyrical content of rap. Just like heavy metal, it did not conform to certain musical norms that many Americans had come to know. So this week, Dave and Rob will look back at the rise of rap in the 80s and reveal our favorite songs from the decade. From Grandmaster Flash to 2 Live Crew, we'll listen to the changing styles and subject matter of this once taboo art form. So get ready to get down with two white boys from Oregon, as they lay out the best songs they know from 80s Rap. The Breakfast Club, directed by John Hughes, is a classic teen drama that takes place over the course of a single Saturday detention at Shermer High School. The film follows five students from vastly different social cliques. The five classes include the criminal, the princess, the jock, the nerd and the basket case. Being overseen by an angry Vice Principal, the 5 students start to learn they have more in common than they realize. This week, Rob, Dave and Kurt will dissect the movie and look at all of their favorite parts. They agree, mostly disagree, and probably say several inappropriate things. The film is celebrating its 40 year anniversary and is considered an 80's teen movie classic. The film is known for its iconic moments, including the students' heartfelt confessions, dance sequence, and the famous closing shot of Bender raising his fist in the air. The Breakfast Club captures the complexity of teenage identity and remains a defining film of the 1980s. During this month 35 years ago, the whole world threw on some Hammer pants and was captivated by the world's most famous Bat Boy. We're heading back to 1990 to look at the smash hit album by MC Hammer, Please Hammer Don't Hurt Em. Hammer's second studio album was a massive commercial success, solidifying him as one of the biggest hip-hop/pop crossover artists of the early 90's. He also happened to be blaring consistently through the speakers of teenage Dave and Rob, who loved singing out U Can't Touch This at the top of their lungs. Sponsored by Pepsi and Kentucky Fried Chicken, Hammer embarked on a world tour that included opening acts like En Vogue and Vanilla Ice. So this week, we'll go track by track and re visit this iconic album of the early 90's. Did it hold up and sound as good as we remember? Also, can Rob still do the Hammer dance? We'll answer these questions, and so much more during this week's show. Please Hammer Don't Hurt is still one of the most successful and influential rap albums of all time, paving the way for pop/rap's dominance in the early 90's. Here Come the Hammer, uh oh, uh oh, uh oh, uh oh, Here Come The Hammer! Valentine's Day in the 80s and 90s had a different, unique charm than today. The holiday was less digital, more personal and packed with pop culture influences. On this week's episode, Rob and Dave look back at the candy, TV and music of the most romantic holiday in the 80s and 90s. From hand made cards, mixtapes and school dances serenaded by Wham, Valentines Day has a nostalgic feel from that time of when you just sent flowers to a loved one during class or slipped a note in their locker. By the time the 90s came around, you could send loving messages via beeper and turn in those clunky cassettes for the cleaner sound of the mixed CD. However you look back at Valentine's Day, whether with fondness or cringe, we're going to throw some of those memories, good and bad your way and hopefully it will fill your heart with joy and happiness as we go back to Valentine's Day this week, in the 80's and 90s. We're heading back 45 years to the upscale Bushwood Country Club where this movie revolves around a diverse group of quirky characters. We're heading back 30 years this week to look at the 100 hottest songs in America, according to radio and album sales, for this week in January 1995. 1995 was diverse, reflecting a wide range of genres that dominated the charts and defined the cultural landscape of the mid 1990's. Styles that were popular were grunge/alternative rock, Britpop to include bands like Oasis, Blur and Pulp, Pop Music, Hip Hop and R&B, Country music and the electronic/dance/house style. This week Rob and Dave look at the famous Billboard Hot 100 and choose our favorites from the best 100 songs at that time in 1995, in the US. Some will rock, some will spark nostalgia and some may have you remember, why in the heck was that popular? Any way you look at it, we'll provide you with a great flashback to January of 1995 and have you remembering everything great about the mid 90's. In short, 1995 was a year of musical variety, with rock, pop, hip hop and dance music thriving simultaneously. This eclectic mix reflected the growing segmentation of music audiences and the globalization of musical tastes. Gotta make that money man! The 1980s were a golden era for pop music, often celebrated for its unique blend of creativity, innovation, and cultural impact. But what made the music of the time so awesome. Well, you had iconic artists and personalities, genre blending creativity, the synthesizer revolution, unforgettable melodies, MTV and a timeless appeal. The standard most artists could point to that illustrated their popularity was the Billboard Hot 100. Charting on the Hot 100 could boost the artist and make them more famous than they could have imagined. However, there were times that songs were on the radio or MTV and somehow didn't make it onto the Hot 100. This week, we'll look at some songs that are memorable of the 80's but somehow didn't make it onto America's most popular music chart. Did those songs disappear or remain iconic? We'll take a look at this as the decade of the 80s wasn't just about creating music, it was about creating an experience. The 1980s left a legacy of songs that remain iconic, energetic, and as said before, timeless. In the new world of playlists and streaming music, the youth of today will never know the painstaking steps that were needed to formulate a mixed cassette tape. Whether you were building the tape for a friend, a family member or that special someone, it was a process that took a lot of time, patience and thought to make sure the songs you selected were just right. Through a combination of borrowing tapes or recording off the radio you would put your masterpiece together and then wait anxiously to see what their reaction would be. So this week Rob is traveling back 37 years to the great year of 1988 and putting together a 90 minute mixtape that will show off his musical abilities. He will channel his 11 year old self and put together a list of songs that would surely impress anyone in 1988. So Dave and the audience this week will sit back and enjoy the music of 1988 and try to figure out if this would have been a successful mix that someone else would have really liked listening to. As we get ready to turn the page on the New Year, there is no better way to end 2024 than to put together a kick ass playlist from the 1990's that you can jam out to at all your New Year's Eve parties. A great 90's playlist should balance nostalgia, energy and variety that will keep a party atmosphere lively and engaging. Putting together a playlist this important can be daunting, but Dave and Rob will attempt their best to help you ring in 2025. When crafting a great list of songs you'll need Party Starters, Sing-Alongs, Dance Floor Fillers, Hip Hop R&B Hits, Rock Anthems and perhaps midnight countdown songs. By mixing genres and tempos, you'll keep everyone on their feet and enjoying the night. So grab some Boones Farm, flip over to Dick Clark and let's all watch the ball drop together back in one of the best decades, the 1990's. This week, the Recall crew takes on, perhaps the greatest Christmas movie of all time. This is a film that follows the Griswold family as they prepare for a traditional Christmas celebration at their suburban Chicago home. True to form, Clark's attempts to create the perfect holiday lead to a series of hilarious mishaps and escalating disasters. So Dave, Rob and Kurt will take a look at Clark's Christmas obsession, impending family chaos, the stress of work and random holiday mishaps that all ultimately lead to a heartwarming resolution, and ultimately a great Christmas season. This movie has become a classic exploring the themes of family, perseverance, and the humorous chaos of holiday traditions. Clark's unrelenting optimism and love for his family drive the story, even as everything seems to go wrong. Xmas Vacation is beloved for its slapstick humor, memorable one-liners, and relatability, becoming a holiday staple for audiences worldwide and is still a Xmas staple in a lot of households to this day. In 1996, mild mannered mattress salesman Howard Langston must get a specific Xmas present for his son Jamie. Of course, the toy is sold out and hilarity and hijinks ensue as Howard goes on a chaotic journey throughout the Twin Cities in Minnesota. 1996's Jingle All the Way stars Arnold Schwarzenegger as a detached father and husband who constantly disappoints his wife and son. This week, Rob, Kurt and Dave will go over this Christmas “classic” and see if the laughs and sight gags still hold up almost 30 years later. Will this workaholic dad and husband save the day and realize what's most important? Or, will he actually learn nothing, be rewarded for being a terrible person and continue to live his crazy life? We'll look at that plus the theme of capitalism and commercialism at Christmas all wrapped up in a shiny holiday package. Christmas songs are seen as a pivotal part of the holiday season. They bring feelings of nostalgia, festivity, family and memories. Classics like Jingle Bell Rock and Santa Claus is Coming to Town just make the season feel complete. However, not all Christmas songs are made the same, in fact some songs and artists should probably avoid the holiday season altogether. So what makes a bad Christmas song? Holiday cringe, ill fitting genres, celebrity cash ins and melancholy overload. This week Dave will introduce an entire playlist of what have been deemed as less than classic Christmas songs, and to be honest, are just bad overall. Rob and Dave will discuss, laugh and try to figure out why these were even recorded and who knows, amongst all of the crap, you may find a new holiday classic (which would be strange). So grab some chestnuts and hot cocoa and we'll go a wassailing, hopefully not being arrested in the process for being a public nuisance and/or disturbing the peace. We're loading up in the Shaggin' Wagon this week and heading someplace warm, a little place called Aspen to look back at one of the comedy classics of the 1990s, Dumb & Dumber. We'll take a look at the story of two best friends, Lloyd and Harry, who are so clueless that they redefine the limits of human stupidity. 30 years ago this week, we piled into the theater to watch one of the most funny movies we'd seen as teenagers. This week, Rob, Dave and Kurt will try their best to go over all the best parts of Dumb & Dumber, as there aren't any bad ones and see what hilarity will ensue. In the end, briefcases, hot peppers, Lamborghini's and big june bugs are on the menu and Harry and Lloyd do everything they can to return a briefcase as we look back at 1994s Dumb & Dumber. And unlike Lloyd, we are aware that we've already landed on the moon. This week we're traveling all the way back to 1987 to look at, perhaps, the best Thanksgiving movie and buddy comedy ever made, Planes, Trains, and Automobiles. A control freak marketing exec and a loudmouthed shower curtain ring salesman team up for the world's most disastrous road trip. What begins as a simple flight home for Thanksgiving spirals into a cross-country journey filled with fiery rental cars, broken trains, and one particularly intimate motel bed scene. Along the way, they endure hilariously awkward mishaps, exchange epic insults and eventually bond over the sheer absurdity of their misfortunes. Rob, Dave and Kurt will take a humorous look at all of the best and maybe not so great moments from this iconic holiday movie. It's the ultimate holiday travel nightmare, equal parts frustration, hilarity and heartwarming bromance. By the time they reach Chicago, you'll never look at a pair of stolen socks or a burnt car the same way again. It's been almost 2 years and the team of Rob and Dave at Totally 80's and 90s Recall have made it to their 100th episode. This week the hosts take a look back at the Billboard Hot 100 charts in the 80s and 90s. Normally, people look at the #1 songs, or the top 10 or 40 hits, but not this week. On this episode, Rob and Dave look at all of the songs that were ranked at #100 at some point during each year of the 80s and 90s. They'll then rank their favorites from each year and discuss and possibly disagree on the validity and quality of those songs. Finding gems that hit #100 can sometimes uncover underrated songs and really popular songs that found their way to this part of the list. Often it could be a debut, but also it's just a song that already peaked higher on the Billboard charts and is now on its way out. So for this podcast's 100th episode, Rob and Dave will rack and stack their favorites and prove that the number attached to a song on the Hot 100 doesn't always reflect how great of a jam it could be. As we move into November, we take a look at our first Thanksgiving movie, Son In Law starring Pauly Shore. For this episode, Dave, Kurt and Rob will travel to South Dakota and watch this Fish-out-of-water comedy down on a farm. Shore looks to help out his college friend, Carla Gugino as she visits her parents during the Thanksgiving break from school by creating a distraction for her boyfriend Travis. From farming to square dancing, fishing and Playboy's, Shore will find out how different, and similar life can be in middle America. With plenty of early 90's style, the film offers an amusing take on culture shock and family acceptance, all in classic Pauly Shore fashion buddies!!! It's SpookTober and what is more iconic than scary dudes with masks looking to chase local babysitters? That's right, we're looking at the horror classic, 1978's Halloween. Directed by John Carpenter, Halloween follows the story of a troubled young boy who turns into a malevolent and unstoppable force as an adult. This week, Rob, Kurt and Dave will re-watch a movie considered an all time classic to see if it still holds up and will retain the title as the greatest horror movie ever made. We'll discuss whether or not all other modern day horror movies only exist because of John Carpenter's classic. It spawned multiple sequels and made its main evil character, Michael Myers a pop culture icon. So grab some overalls, toss on a mask and go looking for teenagers doing all the things they're not supposed to be doing as we try to scare the crap out of you talking about 1978's Halloween. The 1990's were a wild time for music. The emergence of so many styles and genres of music made it one of the most eclectic decades of our lifetimes. However, despite producing some of the most iconic and memorable songs and albums of the last 40-50 years, somehow some questionable songs were able to top the Billboard charts. On this week's episode, Rob and Dave take a look at a group of songs that overcame many of their own shortcomings to somehow become the most popular song in America for at least 1 week in the 90's. We'll look at the songs, what they were all about and discuss why we think they may have been able to rise up the charts and overtake music, that looking back was completely superior in so many ways. So buckle up for some interesting hits from the 90's this week, and maybe a few you might actually like, as we ask the question “How Did These Songs hit #1 in the 90's?” Pandora: https://pandora.app.link/iq8iShjXOLb Apple: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/totally-80s-and-90s-recall/id1662282694 Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/11dk5TUoLUk4euD1Te1EYG?si=b37496eb6e784408 Amazon Music: https://music.amazon.com/podcasts/1960c8f9-158d-43ac-89a6-d868ea1fe077/totally-80s-and-90s-recall YouTube Podcasts: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLH9lGakNgCDZUkkHMUu88uXYMJu_33Rab&si=xo0EEVJRSwS68mWZ Playlists: Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/1I0dKRDgCVyGgK8fj4xH9O Apple: https://music.apple.com/us/playlist/90s-1-hits/pl.u-V9D73zaC1JlN5z?ls Amazon: https://music.amazon.com/user-playlists/627b5ad750d34f819b043f5a5a45728esune?marketplaceId=ATVPDKIKX0DER&musicTerritory=US&ref=dm_sh_3J8EiCPFVgxFWjS4w3WXV2m1P Contact Us: Website: https://totally80s90srecall.podbean.com/ Email: 80s90srecall@gmail.com LinkTree:https://linktr.ee/80s90srecall

The sweet and smooth polished sounds of the late 70s and early 80s was deemed soft rock. It had its own radio stations sometimes on the AM dial and became music synonymous with riding in an elevator or waiting in a doctors office. In the early 2000's, this brand of what was known as Soft Rock was renamed Yacht Rock from a web series, but has now become widely accepted as describing this style of music. Soft or Yacht rock combines jazz, R&B and rock influences to create an easy going feeling about love and a carefree lifestyle. On this episode, Dave, and Rob (reluctantly) list their favorite songs from this genre. They'll go over each other's choices and surely have some spirited discussion and debate over the choices. So ditch those leather jackets, grab a cozy sweater and a glass of chardonnay and imagine you're on a yacht drifting carelessly in slow motion. Now you're ready for songs that can be played at a wedding or in an office setting and are just catchy enough to be oh so memorable. What happens when you only have 90 minutes to tell a really long story, and you cannot take the time to expand on the entire plot? That would be the old movie making adage of putting in a montage. You can easily streamline your story and show growth by the characters from being really bad at something to becoming a pro in 3-4 minutes. Throw in a kick ass 80's hype song, and they become unforgettable moments in any great movie. This week we're taking a look at our favorite montage moments from particular movies that used this filmmaking trick better than others. We'll rank our top 10 favorite montages from 80's movies, and hopefully not miss any of the classics, pointing out why each montage is awesome and should always be remembered. The mix of rousing music, energetic editing, and strong emotional beats made montages not just memorable but integral to the tone and impact of 80s movies. They often encapsulated the film's core themes in just a few minutes, leaving a lasting impression. Saturday Night live in the 1980s and 1990s are considered the golden era of the show. During these two decades, the show spawned many legendary performers that would go on to become comedy and movie stars influencing pop culture even to this day. For this week's episode, Rob and Dave take a look, and rank their favorite SNL performers from this golden era of the 80s and 90s to reveal who are their favorites, and who they think were the funniest and most influential, not quite ready for prime time players. SNL created so many classic characters and recurring sketches such as Wayne's World, The Church Lady, Hans and Franz and Canteen Boy. They were also always on the cutting edge of political satire, with their dead-on impersonations of the most powerful world figures of the time. Finally, the show became a must-see for the most popular musical acts of the time which kept the show constantly culturally relevant and appealed to the younger hip audience. So let's go back to lunch lady land, dance with Swayze for Chippendales and please, lay off us, we're starving as we head to 30 Rock this week to revisit Saturday Night Live. 35 years ago this month Motley Crue released their fifth studio album. After years of rocking in a drug and alcohol induced haze, this album Dr. Feelgood was the bands first recording since their dedication to sobriety and rehabilitation. Clear heads definitely prevailed on this album as the song spawned several top 40 singles, became the bands most successful album and really encapsulated the rock sound of the late 80s hair/glam metal explosion. On this episode, Dave and Rob will go back to their Junior High days to relive the fun party vibe that the Crue emitted, and discuss if the album still holds up today. Dr. Feelgood is often regarded as the quintessential album of the glam metal era, and remains a fan favorite to this day. So let's join Vince, Nikki, Mick and Tommy as the prescribe us the musical medicine we need from Dr. Feelgood. This week we're heading back almost 40 years to hang out with a couple of horny, nerdy guys back in 1985. This modern day retelling of Frankenstein stars Anthony Michael Hall and Gary Ilan Mitchell-Smith as they decide to create their own girlfriend since their social status makes them social pariahs. Weird Science is a realistic look at what two motivated guys could accomplish with a computer back in the mid 80s, and all of the hijinks that would occur afterward. Rob, Dave and the Movie Hound will strap some bras on their heads and look to avoid Chet as they take a look back at the comedy sci-fi classic. We'll confront bullies, have some great adventures, throw an ultimate party and learn some life lessons from our mentor Lisa, as we power up the VCR to get down with some Weird Science. The 90s saw the rise of numerous subgenres within alternative music, including grunge, Britpop, Indie rock and more. The popularity in the early 90s of Nirvana, Pearl Jam and others opened the door for alternative music to become a more mainstream genre in the industry. This allowed artists and bands that were reserved to indie labels to be discovered by major record companies and release albums and songs that are still highly regarded today. On this week's episode, Rob and Dave are joined by some special guests to look at the Billboard Alternative Airplay charts, and talk about some of the great music that was popular during the 90s. With bands like Smashing Pumpkins, Radiohead, R.E.M. and more, we'll put together an alternative playlist that any 90s kid would be proud to jam out to at their favorite coffee house. Alternative music swept the nation in the early 90s. By 1993, “grunge” music was dominating not only the alternative charts, but the hot 100 and MTV as well. Nirvana was huge, and Pearl Jam, Stone Temple Pilots and others going mainstream has allowed other lesser known bands to be found and at least have 1 or 2 songs become popular. In 1993, alternative music was characterized by significant album releases, widespread cultural impact and the solidification of grunge as a defining genre of the early 90s music scene. So join Rob and Dave as they look back at the amazing music that rose from the undergrounds of Seattle as we rank our favorite alternative songs of 1993. From Jay-Z to Big Pun, Will Smith and DMX, 1998 provided 90s kids and the world with some memorable and straight banging Hip Hop, R&B and Rap. On this episode, Rob and Dave will go through some of their favorites from a year when MTV's TRL debuted and hip hop had slowly started taking over the musical landscape on TV and the radio from the mid 90s depressing, socially aware era of grunge music. The late 90s was a time of fun, excess and optimism for the upcoming 2000s. So whether you were in the club, a house party, or drinking beer in a field somewhere outside of town, you were probably getting down to a lot of the hits we'll cover this week. So let's get Jiggy with some awesome Hip Hop from way back in 1998. This week we're traveling to the Goon Docks to join up with Mikey, Brand, Chunk, Mouth and the others to look for an elusive, possibly life saving treasure. Much like our gang of outcast children, Dave, Rob and Kurt will go on their own adventure this week looking at the 1985, all time classic, The Goonies. The gang will try to remember all of the great memories and nostalgia this movie stirs up in Gen X and early millennial kids, and possibly enjoy a Baby Ruth or two along the way. So let's cross some rickety bridges, avoid deadly traps and get the hell away from the Fratelli's on a quest to steal some old pirate's booty, and let's be honest, One Eyed Willy's not going to know if you take some of that gold.
