Woobies, poor little meow meows, anti-heroes, and problematic faves: in Episode 206, “Bad Fans Revisited,” Flourish and Elizabeth use a listener voicemail on investment in morally dubious fictional characters to revisit a perennial hot topic in fandom. Specifics discussed include the heightened language of performative tags, blurred lines between fiction and reality, what a dark AU can offer that a dark original story might not, and yes, Lestat de Lioncourt. Plus: Flourish lets you know how you, too, can become a Certified Villain Fucker (there's a test!).

Hour 3: Hour 3 begins with Jerry and Sal looking ahead to week 17. Jerry likes how some Giants players are being honest about the importance of this Sunday's game and Sal thinks they will easily beat the Colts. If they somehow don't, it could ruin all of the good feelings from this season. CLo returns for an update and before he starts, the guys ponder week 18 flex possibilities. The Knicks were done in by Luka Doncic, who authored one of the greatest individual games in NBA history. Younger Knicks fans frustrate Sal. The Commanders are returning to Carson Wentz at QB. Jerry sees having a good record in close games as a positive, not a negative. In the final segment of the hour, Jerry and Sal discuss how fan behavior is getting more and more disgusting after someone sent an awful message to Dak Prescott on social media.

Intro: Michael Rand was three outs away from completely burying the Twins. And then four lasers -- two of them no-doubt two-run homers -- gave them a 7-5 walk-off win over the Yankees and closer Aroldis Chapman. It probably doesn't mean anything in the big picture of a lost season, but small moments along the way are still worthwhile. 7:00: Columnist La Velle E. Neal III joins the show to talk about baseball's longstanding culture of cheating and the latest scandal involving pitchers using illegal substances on the ball to improve performance. And Neal and Rand talk about bad fan behavior at games, a problem that has reared its head in recent NBA playoff games. 28:00: Trading Danielle Hunter would be the easy solution for the Vikings, but not the best one. And farewell to the Colorado Avalanche in the NHL playoffs.
Bad Fans, Bucks Sweep, Rodgers and the June 1st, and more!!
It's June 1st, the new league year. Expect Julio Jones and Zach Ertz to move quickly. What other moves could come? The Jacksonville Jaguars keep showing they're not just a gimmick, they play one on TV too. Fans doing dumb stuff at NBA games isn't new, but keep putting them in the headlines and watch it keep happening.
Coop and Webb begin the show by talking about the criminal actions fans undertook towards Russell Westbrook and Trae Young. Webb tries to explain why Devin Booker is an OBVIOUS top 15 player and Coop throws cold water all over him. This is one of the most fun debates in this shows history. Then they break down each series in round 1 of the NBA playoffs and where it stands. Webb makes ANOTHER GIGANTIC GUARANTEE that you need to hear. This is a can't miss episode and by far our best yet!!! www.twitter.com/rookiephenoms www.undraftedsports.com

In Episode 75, “Bad Fans,” Elizabeth and Flourish discuss Emily Nussbaum’s concept of the “bad fan”: people who read against the expectations of the source material to celebrate the bad behavior of characters, from anti-heroes to villains. They then discuss a listener letter about the concept of redemption: what makes a character redeemable? Do all characters deserve to be redeemed? How does fandom grant redemption? Finally, they discuss alternate universes—yes, again.

In this first official episode of Oi! Spaceman: A Doctor Who Love Story, Shana and Daniel discuss Tom Baker's first three stories: Robot, The Ark in Space, and The Sontaran Experiment. Also discussed: Doctor Who: Legacy, Colin Baker's dickishness, the feminism of Sarah Jane, and much, much more. Show notes:Main topic: Robot, the Ark in Space, and The Sontaran Experiment. Doctor Who: Legacy. A bit on Colin Baker. Extra-legally-obtained episodes? Another little bit on William Hartnell's antepenultimate episode The Smugglers. Shana's physical attraction to the iconic Tom Baker. Everyone's love for Sarah Jane Smith. The Third Doctor Era and Benny Hill. First mention of Harry Sullivan and "old girl." Sarah Jane's investigative reporting instincts in "Robot." The Third Doctor as the prototypical "Scientist Doctor" versus the Scientific Reform Society. "Burninating." Doctor Who and Isaac Asimov? Sarah Jane as the everywoman. Previewing future episodes on Jo Grant and the Third Doctor. The Ark in Space: one of Daniel's all-time favorites -- Shana is skeptical. Daniel can't remember who wrote the Ark in Space and gets it totally wrong. The charm of re-using corridors. The joy of bubble-wrap monsters and lo-fidelity TV screens. Shana has no memory of the Wirn, but loves the character bits. Doctor Who as an anthology series. Standoff between the Wirn and the Doctor. The Doctor tweaking Sarah Jane's feminism: what do we think? Every episode with the word "Time" is bad, except for one, and Daniel can't remember it until he googles it: BAD FAN! Sontar-HA! Did the Sontaran Experiment exist on a far-future Earth or another planet? We're both Bad Fans. The Sontarans torture people off-screen, and Sarah Jane's outfit is adorable. Second mention of Harry Sullivan and "old girl." The Sontarans as Space Nazis. Questioning humanity through the lens of fictional alien species. Military red tape. Sontaran makeup issues. Harry Sullivan's incompetence. Third mention of "old girl." Tom Baker's injuries and comparing the action scenes of the Third and Fourth Doctors. Sarah Jane's empathy. Anti-climactic endings in Doctor Who. Shana prefers Robot to The Ark in Space. Laughing at the B-movieness of Robot. Podcasting at the speed of Google! Ending on the classic quote from The Ark in Space. Links: Tom Baker talks about his 50th Anniversary Experience.Daniel's Twitter: @danieleharperShana's Twitter: @inkyosa
Have you ever encountered THAT guy at a children's sporting event who is loud, obnoxious and "borderline" abusive toward the refs, opposing coaches and parents? Well then, you've probably met our Johnny. His "Legend-ness" has been asked to leave each of his children's games on many an occasion. And it's not like the targets of his disdain didn't have it coming; it's just his delivery system that is somewhat questionable. In short, Johnny is a bad fan.
