Auch wenn wir uns dem Sommer mit großen Schritten nähern, ist bei meiner heutigen Rezension von Sommerlektüre keine Spur. Dabei könnte man doch meinen, dass es in einem Roman der, zumindest zu einem großen Teil, in einer von Männern bewohnten WG oder besser gesagt Kommune im Berlin der DDR recht freiheitlich und locker-leicht zugehen müsste und man beschwingt in die Lektüre starten könnte. Und hat nicht Rosa Luxemburg schon gesagt: „Freiheit ist immer die Freiheit der Andersdenkenden.“? Ich behalte diesen Gedanken im Kopf und komme später darauf zurück.Im Aufbau Verlag erschien dieses Jahr der Roman Mit beiden Händen den Himmel stützen der gebürtigen Berlinerin Lilli Tollkien, die damit ihr literarisches Debüt gab. Darin begleiten wir ihre Protagonistin Lale, die wir quasi schon vor ihrer Geburt kennenlernen, als sie uns beschreibt wie es sich anfühlt im Bauch ihrer Mutter, diesem geschützten und gleichzeitig ungeschützten Raum zu sein, denn der Schutz des Kindes hängt maßgeblich vom Verhalten der Mutter ab. Durch deren vorgeburtlichen Drogenkonsum entwickelt jedoch auch ihr Baby, Lale, unsere Protagonistin, eine Abhängigkeit und startet in ihr Leben mit einem Drogenentzug und es ist das Jahr 1980. Einige Zeit später, Lale ist circa anderthalb Jahre, wird ihrer Mutter das Sorgerecht entzogen und der Vater, der ohnehin nicht auf der Geburtsurkunde erscheint, fährt wegen eines Banküberfalls ins Gefängnis ein. Daraufhin kommt sie ins Heim, eine Zeit die sowohl für die Leserin als auch die Protagonistin eine Leerstelle bilden und ein Jahr später, Lale ist zweieinhalb wird sie von Karlheinz, einem Freund von Lales Vater, als Pflegekind aufgenommen und findet so ihren Weg in seine Wohngemeinschaft. Dies ist jedoch kein bloßer Akt der Nächstenliebe, sondern ein Freundschaftsdienst für Lales Vater, der Karlheinz beim letzten Bankraub nicht verpfiffen hat und die 700 Mark, die er zusätzlich für sein Pflegekind bekommt, tun ihr Übriges. In der WG wohnen neben Karlheinz noch drei weitere Männer, nämlich Wolfgang, Ansgar und Frank und, nach seiner Entlassung aus dem Gefängnis, schließlich auch Lales Vater.In diesem Umfeld wächst Lale ohne feste Strukturen und Regeln auf. Was für andere Kinder eher die Ausnahme wäre, nämlich viele Süßigkeiten zu essen, lange wach zu bleiben und ständiges Fernsehen, ist für sie der Normalzustand. Doch es wird schnell deutlich, dass dieses Leben nichts begehrenswertes für sie darstellt. Es sind ihre Bewunderung für das zu Hause ihrer Freundin Lina, das aufgeräumt ist und in dem es gut riecht, aber vor allem die Schule und die damit verbundenen Regeln und Abläufe die ihr Halt geben.„Die Schule ist mein Anker. Alle Abläufe wiederholen sich, und es gibt eindeutige Regeln. Die Klassenlehrerin ist immer nüchtern, und alles scheint einem beruhigenden Plan zu folgen, die Stuhlkreise, die Schulmilch, die Hofpausen und das Lesen in der bunten Fibel. Das Beste aber ist die Normalität der anderen oder dass, was ich mir darunter vorstelle.“ (S.33/34)Ihre Sehnsucht nach Regeln, Ordnung und Stabilität scheinen nicht verwunderlich, stehen sie doch im starken Gegensatz zu ihrer tatsächlichen Lebenswelt, die geprägt ist von Männern, die unter dem Deckmantel der Freiheit ein Leben jenseits von Konventionen führen, die revolutionär sein wollen und über Philosophien schwadronieren, in deren Leben aber Alkohol, Drogen und Machtmissbrauch an der Tagesordnung stehen und denen Lales Wohlbefinden egal ist.Als Lale mit 14 Jahren aus der Männer WG auszieht, zunächst in eine betreute Mädchen WG, hat sie längst ihre Erfahrungen mit Alkohol und Drogen und was noch viel schlimmer ist, mit sexuellem Missbrauch gemacht und musste aufgrund schulischer Probleme auf eine Hauptschule wechseln. Mit 16 Jahren bezieht sie zum ersten Mal alleine eine Wohnung. Auch von diesem Punkt aus begleiten wir sie weiter durch ihr Leben, dass durch ihre Kindheit so negativ geprägt ist, dass es für sie unendlich schwer ist erwachsen zu werden, herauszufinden was sie wirklich möchte – in beruflicher wie persönlicher Hinsicht – aber auch ihre Traumata zu verarbeiten. Wir begleiten Lale auf der Suche nach sich selbst, immer umgeben von der Frage, wer sie eigentlich ist, wer sie sein möchte. Diese tiefgreifenden persönlichen Fragen rühren vor allem auch vom quasi nicht vorhandenen elterlichen Schutz und der Vernachlässigung, die sie durch ihre Eltern erfahren musste. Während ihre Mutter aufgrund ihrer Heroinabhängigkeit nicht in der Lage ist für ein Kind zu sorgen und im Leben ihrer Tochter nur selten und unzuverlässig auftaucht und schließlich auch an ihrer Sucht stirbt, ist der Vater aufgrund seiner politischen Aktivitäten und Raubüberfälle oft physisch nicht vorhanden. Wenn doch, scheint seine Aufmerksamkeit dann eher seinen wechselnden Partnerinnen denn seiner Tochter zu gelten. Dieses Fehlen der Eltern und damit auch das Fehlen von Vorbildern oder Leitfiguren zusammen mit dem fehlenden elterlichen Schutz sowie der Tatsache, dass Lale sich nahezu allein in einer grenzenlosen und gefährlichen Erwachsenenwelt behaupten muss, prägen und traumatisieren sie. Dem chronologischen Erzählstrang, mit dem Lilli Tollkien uns dabei durch die Handlung führt, sind aber auch immer wieder Auslassungen und Vorausschauen auf Lales späteres Leben eingestreut.Die Freiheit der Andersdenkenden beschränkt sich dabei auf ihre eigene ganz persönliche Freiheit, durch deren Ausleben sie Grenzen anderer überschreiten, in denen es vor allem zu Vernachlässigung und Missbrauch kommt und somit ein Umfeld entsteht, in dem Gewalt verharmlost und normalisiert wird. Die Mitglieder der Kommune, die sich nach außen progressiv geben, werten Frauen zu Objekten ab, die vor allem zur Befriedigung ihrer eigenen Bedürfnisse, sei es sexueller Natur oder der Erledigung häuslicher Pflichten, dienen. Empathie, Gleichberechtigung, Respekt oder Schutz erfahren die Frauen, zu denen auch Lale – ein Kind – gehören nicht. Rücksichtsloses Verhalten wird als politisches Ideal getarnt.„Der Geruch meiner Kindheit setzt sich zusammen aus Schwarzer-Krauser-Tabak, Bier und stockiger Wäsche. Aus Sperma, Haschisch und Überbackenem.“ (S.67)Und später beschreibt die Protagonistin:„Mit Genugtuung beobachte ich, wie die Erwachsenen mit sich ringen, wenn ich ein Schnapsglas leere, wenn ich am Joint ziehe, die Schule schwänze oder betrunken auf irgendeinem Schoß in der Kneipe sitze, wie sie zu spüren scheinen, dass etwas an der Situation falsch ist und sie dennoch Teil davon sind und nichts sagen.“ (S.118)Dennoch sind Lilli Tollkiens Sprache und Beschreibungen nicht anklagend. Es ist aber schmerzhaft zu lesen, wie Lale versucht, Halt und Sinn, ja sich selbst in ihrem Leben zu finden. Es ist eine Geschichte über Suche und Kampf um Selbstermächtigung und Emanzipation, die die Frage aufwirft, wer man hätte sein können und wer man ist. This is a public episode. Was passiert, wenn Mosel-Schiefer auf Rheinhessen-Kalk trifft — und dazu noch zwei der spannendsten Winzerpersönlichkeiten Deutschlands an einem Tisch sitzen? Die beiden stellen beim Schreiben unzählige Gemeinsamkeiten fest – von der Liebe zu To-Do-Listen bis hin zu den gleichen Rauch- und Ernährungsgewohnheiten. Nach drei vielversprechenden Dates und einer ersten innigen Nacht voller Zärtlichkeiten macht Ansgar jedoch völlig abrupt per WhatsApp Schluss, da er ihre Erwartungen für eine langfristige Beziehung nicht erfüllen könne. Völlig am Boden zerstört wendet sich Barbara an eine telefonische Liebeskummer-Seelsorge, die bei Ansgar prompt "Bindungsangst" diagnostiziert. Bei einem letzten Treffen macht Barbara ihm weinend und schreiend eine Szene, wirft ihm eine handgeschriebene Liste mit Therapeuten vor die Füße und flüchtet rennend. Was vorerst eigentlich als simples Vereinsshirt gedacht war, entwickelte sich Schritt für Schritt zu einer eigenständigen Marke mit Wiedererkennungswert. In dieser Folge erzählen Jost und Ansgar, wie aus einer studentischen Idee mehr wurde. Nämlich eine Marke mit starkem Gemeinschaftsgefühl. To St. Blaise (or Blaise) (d. 320), many cures are attributed. From the eighth century, he has been invoked on behalf of the sick, especially those afflicted with illnesses of the throat. St. Blaise was a physician and Bishop of Sebaste, Armenia, and was martyred under Licinius. St. Blaise is included in the list of Fourteen Holy Helpers.On this day, the Church celebrates a "Blessing of the Throats" in honor of St. Blaise. St. Ansgar (801-865) became known as the "Apostle of the North" for his great evangelical work in Denmark and Sweden. He was Bishop of Hamburg, Germany, and then of Bremen, Germany. Full Text of Readings The Saint of the day is Saint Ansgar Saint Ansgar's Story The “apostle of the north” (Scandinavia) had enough frustrations to become a saint—and he did. He became a Benedictine at Corbie, France, where he had been educated. Three years later, when the king of Denmark became a convert, Ansgar went to that country for three years of missionary work, without noticeable success. Sweden asked for Christian missionaries, and he went there, suffering capture by pirates and other hardships on the way. Fewer than two years later, he was recalled, to become abbot of New Corbie (Corvey) and bishop of Hamburg. The pope made him legate for the Scandinavian missions. Funds for the northern apostolate stopped with Emperor Louis's death. After 13 years' work in Hamburg, Saint Ansgar saw it burned to the ground by invading Northmen; Sweden and Denmark returned to paganism. He directed new apostolic activities in the North, traveling to Denmark and being instrumental in the conversion of another king. By the strange device of casting lots, the king of Sweden allowed the Christian missionaries to return. Saint Ansgar's biographers remark that he was an extraordinary preacher, a humble and ascetical priest. He was devoted to the poor and the sick, imitating the Lord in washing their feet and waiting on them at table. He died peacefully at Bremen, Germany, without achieving his wish to be a martyr. Sweden became pagan again after his death, and remained so until the coming of missionaries two centuries later. Saint Ansgar shares the celebration of his liturgical feast with Saint Blase on February 3. Reflection History records what people do, rather than what they are. Yet the courage and perseverance of men and women like Ansgar can only come from a solid base of union with the original courageous and persevering Missionary. Ansgar's life is another reminder that God writes straight with crooked lines. Rougemont-Bücking calls for a "culture of conscience" to move beyond the dynamics of division and oppression characteristic of the Vampirocene toward a more empathetic, caring Anthropocene.Ansgar speaks about his upbringing in Germany and how it influenced his decision to work with psychotherapy and psychedelics. He shares his academic journey, from studying medicine to specialising in neurology and psychiatry. Ansgar speaks about a challenging moment in his life, and his subsequent discovery of holotropic breathwork & psychedelics. Psalm 89 begins by praying to the LORD as the incomparable Creator of all things. He stills the mightiest forces in all creation by His mighty hand, and His people are blessed. That blessedness is seen especially in the LORD's steadfast promises to David and his son. Yet the people of God lament that the line of David seems to have withered under God's judgment, and so they pray that the LORD would remember His steadfast love and bring an end to the mockery of His anointed one. Through the promises spoken by the LORD in this psalm, the coming of Jesus Christ as the Son of David is foretold.   Rev. When Jezebel threatens to kill Elijah for what he has done to the prophets of Baal, Elijah runs for his life out of the land of Israel. Although the prophet fled apart from God's Word, the LORD miraculously provides for Elijah and sends him to Mount Sinai. There, Elijah lays his honest complaint before the LORD, and the LORD responds to Elijah through His Word in a low whisper. Even when the LORD's miraculous signs may not be present, the LORD teaches Elijah that His Word always is. The LORD strengthens Elijah by telling the prophet who will come after him and reminding him of the other faithful Christians in the land of Israel. David refuses to gloat over the death of Abner. In his mourning, David makes it plain that Joab killed Abner without David's approval. In this, David shows wisdom to unite Israel under his reign. Meanwhile, Ish-bosheth realizes his precarious position now that Abner has died. Two treacherous men assassinate Ish-bosheth in his own bed. Though these men thought they would be doing David a favor, David continues to show faithfulness to the house of Saul and rightly executes justice against the two murderers. Friends of the Rosary, Today, February 3rd, the Catholic Church honors two saints: Blaise and Ansgar. The fourth-century saint Blaise (or Blase) was a physician and Bishop of Sebaste in Armenia. He is widely venerated due to many cures attributed to him, especially illnesses of the throat, and notably that of a child who was suffocating through a fishbone. Blaise, who also had a reputation for curing sick and wounded animals, was martyred about the year 320. St. Blaise is included in the list of Fourteen Holy Helpers. On this day, in honor of St. Blaise, the Church gives the faithful a "Blessing of the Throats" with two candles tied together with a red ribbon to form a cross. The priest or deacon places the candles around the throat of whoever seeks the blessing, using the formula: "Through the intercession of St. Blaise, bishop, and martyr, may God deliver you free from every disease of the throat and from every other disease. In the name of the Father and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Today's Topics: 1, 2, 3, 4) Father Charles Murr joins Terry Gospel - Mark 5:1-20 - Jesus and his disciples came to the other side of the sea, to the territory of the Gerasenes. When He got out of the boat, at once a man from the tombs who had an unclean spirit met Him. The man had been dwelling among the tombs, and no one could restrain him any longer, even with a chain. In fact, he had frequently been bound with shackles and chains, but the chains had been pulled apart by him and the shackles smashed, and no one was strong enough to subdue him. Night and day among the tombs and on the hillsides he was always crying out and bruising himself with stones. Catching sight of Jesus from a distance, he ran up and prostrated himself before Him, crying out in a loud voice, “What have You to do with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I adjure You by God, do not torment me!” (He had been saying to him, “Unclean spirit, come out of the man!”) He asked him, “What is your name?” He  replied, “Legion is my name.  There are many of us.” And he pleaded earnestly with him not to drive them away from that territory. In the twenty-first stanza of Psalm 119, God's Word is our joy greater than any other treasure. The riches of God's Word are so great that we sing His praises always and regularly. Although the enemies of God may attack us, His Word makes us stand firm and shapes our ways according to His.  Rev. Mark Squire, pastor at Immanuel Lutheran Church in St. Ansgar, IA, joins host Rev. Timothy Appel to study Psalm 119:161-168.  "God's Word Is Our Great Heritage” is a series on Sharper Iron that goes through Psalm 119. As this longest Psalm takes us through an acrostic journey through the Hebrew alphabet, our God teaches us to find joy, refuge, strength, and life in His Word, which is a lamp to our feet and a light to our path. 

Zechariah's book concludes with the LORD's promise to bring the Day of His judgment and salvation. Even on the Day He brings the enemy armies to surround Jerusalem, He plans for their destruction. On that Day, He will give His people light and life, for He will reign as the King over all. Those who remain at enmity with the LORD will see only ruin, but those who survive and turn to Him in faith will worship the LORD along with His people. Zechariah's prophecy points us both to the fulfillment in the work of the Lord Jesus Christ and in His coming again on the Last Day.  Rev. Timothy Appel to study Zechariah 14:1-21.  "The Post-Exilic Prophets” is a series on Sharper Iron that goes through the books of Haggai, Zechariah, and Malachi. Through the preaching of these faithful men, the LORD sent His Word to His people who returned home after their exile in Babylon. Not only did the LORD encourage His people in the work of rebuilding the temple, but even more than that, He pointed them forward to the fulfillment of all the Old Testament promises in the coming kingdom of our true King and great High Priest, Jesus Christ.

Ezra's prayer of confession is taken to heart by the people of Israel. They join with him in confession, evidenced by the request of Shecaniah for Ezra to instruct the people to live from this day forward in repentance. After a night of fasting, Ezra calls all the returned exiles to gather in Jerusalem, and they faithfully come. As they gather in the heavy rain, Ezra reminds them of their sin of intermarrying with idolaters and tells them to make confession and bring these faithless marriages to an end. The people make a plan to do this in a deliberate way, accomplishing the task over a course of three months. The list of those who had intermarried with idolaters is a reminder that God calls sinners like us to Himself in repentance. Although the command to end such marriages is not in effect for Christians today, this text provides an example of people who seek to amend their lives to line up with God's Word. Rev. "God Brings His People Home” is a series on Sharper Iron that goes through the books of Ezra and Nehemiah. After 70 years in exile, the LORD began to fulfill His promise to bring His people back to the Promised Land. In the years that followed, faithful clergy and dedicated laity worked together to rebuild Jerusalem physically and restore the people of God spiritually. Through it all, God was at work to keep His promise of bringing the Savior into the world in the fullness of time.
