This episode focuses on the walking affirmation and initiative of "The Black Man Can" movement, that highlights and encourages black men that "We Can" do any and everything we put our minds to. My guest this episode, Brandon Frame, founder of "The Black Man Can" initiative hear to talk to me about how this walking affirmation got started for him. He spoke about the origin of the initiative, which goes back to 2010 when he started it as a blog for black men and boys to see positive images of themselves in any and every space possible. He was inspired by MK Asante, a best-selling author, award-winning filmmaker and recording artist, who said "Once you make an observation, you have an obligation". His personal observation was that not enough positive imagery was being put out about black men and boys which motivated him to launch this initiative. He also spoke about how this movement and his social media following has grown exponentially with so many black men supporting it by sending him clips of intricate, personal and congratulatory things that every day black men are doing. He even spoke about just the feedback and responses he's been receiving from people who follow him on how this walking affirmation has motivated and inspired them to become the best versions of themselves, how vulnerable black men can be and enjoying the human emotions. He's created a space even within his own personal circle that consists of a judge-free space on how black men can help each other grow in various ways and aspects of his life and he encourages other black men to do just the same; to build community amongst groups of black men because we know that we all need help and are lacking in areas that other black men can help us gain. My favorite question that I asked him was"The Black Man Can what?'', and his response spoke volumes to me personally when he said, "There's nothing we can't do, and what we can continue to do is pursue excellence with impeccable effort". He mentioned some of the things that's on the horizon with this initiative. He's planning to host a power couple brunch which is dedicated to honoring black men with their wives and significant others, to create healthy and whole families. His team also has a "Build a Better Brother Summit", "My 1st Tie Experience", "The Black Man Can Awards" as well which to promote and expose the uplifting experience of what black men are really about vs what society perpetuate us as. You can check out this movement on their site @www.theblackmancan.org and follow him on Instagram on @theblackmancan. Stay encourage black man.

In April of 2010, Brandon Frame answered this call in a way that would change the trajectory of his career and the lives of Black men and boys in America. Brandon M. Frame is the founder of The Black Man Can. #theblackmancan While attending Morehouse College he observed there was a need for mentorship for young boys of color attending middle school. He created a youth males mentorship group called, Voice. He led this group and fostered the educational growth of young boys of color while attending college. This group met once a week and focused on fostering and building positive self-identity of young men and boys of color. Almost as if written destiny, Brandon's life has always been on a path to be a leader and trailblazer for boys and men of color. Born and raised in Hartford, CT and the eldest to his five siblings, Brandon has a natural tendency to care and look out for others. After graduating Morehouse College, he began teaching and coaching at a private school in MA. There, he became a mentor to his students. Brandon realized he had an impact on the younger generation and became a male figure that young men looked up to. Growing up most of his life without his father, he had to learn certain things about becoming a man on his own. One thing he learned was how common it is for other young men of color to be without their fathers. Brandon wanted to create a place for young men of color to express themselves and be able to see positive images of other males of color. In 2010, Brandon created a blog called #theblackmancan to congratulate, educate, and inspire young boys and men of color. The blog set up a platform for boys and men of color to express themselves and share positive life stories. Using social media as a place for these young boys and men of color to have a voice and show the world positive images, this blog experienced tremendous growth over the next few years. In 2013 Brandon decided to take this movement to the next level and wrote a guided journal entitled, Define Yourself: Redefine the World. The journal was used as a tool in his educational institute. Since its inception, Brandon began to be recognized and awarded for his movement. Some of the notable awards include, the Boston Globe magazine cover, Jet magazine's Men of Honor, BET Honors: Next in Class Awards, and the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. award from Morehouse College. Throughout the decade he launched his own YouTube TV series “Building Minds Forever” which lasted for two years and hosted over 150 guests. He created 1000 T.I.E.S (Transforming Identities 2 Empower Society), and the Blackmancan Institute which is now called ‘Building a Better Brother' Summit, which has experienced huge success with over 7,000 young men attending since its inception in 2013. Brandon is the creative visionary for several innovative events and platforms which include, #FallingBlackinLove Power Couple Brunch, #BlackManWinningWednesdays featuring young boys of color recognizing successful men of color, and #BlackMenMondays. This young man has a God given path to lead and pave the way for other boys and men of color to succeed and be seen as the kings they are made to be. To learn more about Brandon M. With 2010 coming to an end, we thought that we talk and share about some of the stories that we thought were of interest to Black men in 2010. This episode not only was the start of our year in review but it was the start of a new feature for the show. For a while, we had a vision of doing regular podcasts with Black Canadian and Black American men discuss various issues that they feel are important. Well, this episode is the start of this journey. In this episode, we have Colin Jobe of "Colin's Edge" (http://www.blogtalkradio.com/colinsedge ) and "The Cutting Edge" on CHRY FM (http://www.chry.fm/ ) and Brandon Frame "The Black Man Can"at http://theblackmancan.org/ In this episode, we start off discussing about LeBron James leaving Cleveland and "taking his talents to Miami". Everyone had a take on this story. We then move onto talking about about Blacks in sports. If you would like to read a good book about Blacks and athletics, please check out: "40 Million Dollar Slaves: ; The Rise, The Fall and Redemption Of The Fall Of The Black Athlete" by William C. Roden Renowned "New York Times" columnist Rhoden deconstructs the black athlete in this explosive and absorbing discussion of race, politics, and the history of American sports. He argues that for all their money and fame, black athletes are no better off than slaves whose masters forced them to race and fight. Feel free to email us at info@blackcanadianman.com.
