From Shiny to Strategic: The Maturation of AI Across Industries // MLOps Podcast #303 with David Cox, VP of Data Science; Assistant Director of Research at RethinkFirst; Institute of Applied Behavioral Science.Join the Community: https://go.mlops.community/YTJoinIn Get the newsletter: https://go.mlops.community/YTNewsletter // AbstractShiny new objects are made available to artificial intelligence(AI) practitioners daily. For many who are not AI practitioners, the release of ChatGPT in 2022 was their first contact with modern AI technology. This led to a flurry of funding and excitement around how AI might improve their bottom line. Two years on, the novelty of AI has worn off for many companies but remains a strategic initiative. This strategic nuance has led to two patterns that suggest a maturation of the AI conversation across industries. First, conversations seem to be pivoting from "Are we doing [the shiny new thing]" to serious analysis of the ROI from things built. This reframe places less emphasis on simply adopting new technologies for the sake of doing so and more emphasis on the optimal stack to maximize return relative to cost. Second, conversations are shifting to emphasize market differentiation. That is, anyone can build products that wrap around LLMs. In competitive markets, creating products and functionality that all your competitors can also build is a poor business strategy (unless having a particular thing is industry standard). Creating a competitive advantage requires companies to think strategically about their unique data assets and what they can build that their competitors cannot. // BioDr. David Cox can formally lay claim to being a bioethicist (master's degree), a board-certified behavior analyst at the doctoral level, a behavioral economist (post-doc training), and a full-stack data scientist (post-doc training). He has worked in behavioral health for nearly 20 years as a clinician, academic researcher, scholar, technologist, and all-around behavior science junky. He currently works as the Assistant Director of Research for the Institute of Applied Behavioral Science at Endicott College and the VP of Data Science at RethinkFirst. David also likes to write, having published 60+ peer-reviewed articles, book chapters, and a few books. In this sermon, I focuses on Ephesians 5:17-21, emphasizing the importance of being filled with the Spirit and understanding one's identity in Christ. He explores foundational topics related to the Holy Spirit, discussing the moment of belief when individuals are regenerated, quickened, and complete in Christ. However, he clarifies that while believers are complete in their identity, this does not automatically equate to maturity. Maturation involves understanding and living out this identity through the wisdom and knowledge provided by Christ, facilitated by the Holy Spirit. Strelecki also contrasts the influence of worldly wisdom with the complete wisdom found in Christ, urging believers to seek the latter for spiritual growth and development.Pastor Strelecki further explains that being filled with the Spirit involves consciously engaging with the Word of God, yielding to it, and allowing the Spirit's influence to manifest in one's actions and thoughts. He draws a parallel between the effects of excess wine leading to drunkenness and the effects of the Spirit—when fully embraced—leading to spiritual fullness displayed in sober understanding. Strelecki highlights Paul's prayers for believers, emphasizing the need to grow in the knowledge of God and to let Christ dwell richly in their hearts by faith. The aim is for believers to mature spiritually, reflecting the fullness of God in their lives, which is part of God's grand objective for them.

In this episode, we welcome longtime friend and collaborator of the UCL Global Governance Institute, Professor Philipp Pattberg, to the podcast, a leading scholar in global environmental governance and sustainability transitions. As Director of the Amsterdam Sustainability Institute and Professor of Transnational Environmental Governance at VU Amsterdam, Philipp's research examines the role of non-state actors, polycentric governance, and institutional complexity in shaping environmental policy. His work has not only advanced our understanding of governance arrangements beyond the nation-state but has also been instrumental in defining the contours of global governance itself – critically interrogating how the very concept of governance is framed, structured, and, ultimately, deployed in the world. With the UN Climate Change Conference (COP30) in Belém, Brazil, fast approaching, we take stock of the evolving governance landscape under the Paris Agreement. A decade after its adoption, the Paris framework continues to define global climate efforts – but does it still hold promise as an effective governance mechanism? In this episode, Pattberg explores the tensions between ambition and implementation, the growing role of private authority and climate clubs, and the need for transformative governance approaches to meet the urgency of the climate crisis. He also reflects on the broader implications of environmental governance beyond climate, from biodiversity loss to planetary boundaries, and what lessons can be drawn for possible futures of multilateralism. Throughout, he challenges us to consider how governance itself is shaped by ideological assumptions, questioning the analytical ‘boxes' that define the field. Philipp is Professor of Transnational Environmental Governance at VU Amsterdam and Director of the Amsterdam Sustainability Institute. His research focuses on climate governance, biodiversity policy, and institutional change in global sustainability governance. He has published extensively in leading journals, including Global Governance, Global Environmental Politics and Environmental Policy and Governance, and is the author of Private Institutions and Global Governance and Environmental Politics and Governance in the Anthropocene (with Frank Biermann). "We want a name. What do we want to build something? We want a name. What do we want to build? Whose name do we want? To be receiving glory. So I need these maturation processes in me to get me ready. So we needed, I think, to fall Right, you will be, to realize the eternal purposes. We needed a maturation process, and that maturation process seems to be sin and death, to enter a fallen place and every myth and every secret story has this. You need to fall into Sheol, you need to go down into the depths, and then you'll be able to fulfill your mission and participate in eternity."The writer of the letter to the Ephesians draws his readers into a sacred calling. It is an invitation into a divine temple building project called, "the body of Christ." It is one way to describe the deep secret, the spiritual purpose behind "Christ-Community" and sparks a lengthy and rich conversation between Jonah and Patrick that covers much of the entire territory of sacred scripture and divine anthropology. The first attempt by humanity to build a temple to heaven in a united project was the Tower of Babel. Why did God thwart this effort? What does it mean that humanity was seeking "a name" for itself in this project? And what all does this have to do with us now? These questions, and much more, are taken up in this episode.PLEASE NOTE: The audio in this episode is extremely eratic; the microphone on Patrick was accidentally set too high and our audio engineers were on Christmas vacation - we apologize sincerely for the unpleasantness this all may cause in the listening!Support the showMany thanks to Camilla Lake for show notes and Podcast/Patreon production and communications. On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Matt Warren of SB Nation to talk several Buffalo Bills topics, including the maturation of Josh Allen that has transformed into quite possibly the best quarterback if not overall player in the entire NFL. Allen has always had the physical gifts that make people marvel and they've been on display for several years now, none so more than 2024. However, as fun as that is to see it's been the mental part of his game that has allowed him to elevate his play even further. The guys talk about how the excitement and chaos is still in his arsenal but it feels more controlled most the time. Josh is patient in poised both in the pocket and on the move--it never feels like he's truly rattled. That's resulted in mistakes not having a domino effect. Patrick suggests that it feels like when Tom Brady at some point of his career he'd seen everything the defense could throw at him and the game just felt easier from there. They also talk a linebacker situation between Matt Milano and Dorian Williams that could more interesting now that Milano has suffered a groin injury, though it doesn't appear to be serious. Still, Milano's looked kind of rusty, understandably so with all the time he missed. If he needs to miss anymore time, can Sean McDermott trust him over Williams in a playoff situation? Also, a respected content creator said that Sean McDermott is the best Bills head coach of all-time and Patrick was left shocked that someone would think it's not Marv Levy. Does Matt agree? That plus a look around the AFC and plenty more. You can follow Matt on Twitter @MattRichWarren and be sure to check out Buffalo Rumblings for your (really good) daily Bills content. Is the insurance industry finally ready to shed its reputation for being process-heavy? How are innovative companies using technology to free up human potential? In this special episode of our ITC series, we explore how two companies are taking different approaches to transforming core insurance workflows. Knowledge is power and understanding the nuances of egg maturation is incredibly helpful in any fertility journey. Based on her abstract on Assessing the Reproductive Potential of Late Mature Oocytes and Egg-Freezing Cycles, Reproductive Endocrinologist Dr. Keri Bergin shares her knowledge on this episode. We begin with background information on the study: when you do egg freezing, you want to stimulate the ovaries to grow as many eggs as possible; at the time of retrieval, the embryologist will determine which are mature and which are immature. At her lab at RMA, Dr. Bergin keeps the immature eggs in culture in the hope that they will mature. If they do, she will freeze them. This study looks at the potential of mature and late-to-mature eggs, and how they fare down the line, and this conversation covers what that means for your fertility journey. Join us as we unpack this important aspect of the egg-freezing cycle.

He explores the evolution of spirituality and the integration of science and religion in contemporary culture. To learn more about his latest book release, "A Universal Learning Process," which is the first volume in his series "The Evolution of Meaning," please visit this link. Can Metamodern Christianity breathe new life into ancient religious frameworks? In this episode of "Voices with Vervaeke," John Vervaeke and Brendan Graham Dempsey continue their exploration of MetaModern Christianity in part two of their discussion. Building on their previous conversation, which addressed the potential for metamodern spirituality to rejuvenate the Christian faith, they delve deeper into the integration of ancient doctrines with contemporary thought. They tackle the limitations of traditional religious frameworks, explore the concept of ultimate reality and the sacred through a non-theistic lens, and emphasize the significance of dialogical relationships in meaning-making. Vervaeke and Dempsey connect these insights to broader philosophical and cultural themes, examining the evolution of spiritual maturity, the interplay between personhood and the universe, and the integration of scientific and mystical perspectives. — Embark on a journey of personal growth and meaning with us. Whether they are running their own business or working in a company, one of the hardest pieces that I see people struggling with is their relationship to their work. So, we either love our job, but we burn out doing it. Or we feel pressured in it - we love it, but it also makes us feel trapped. Or we work in jobs where we feel unfulfilled, or we find ourselves repeating the same patterns in jobs, no matter how many times we change jobs or change industries, or change our behaviours when it comes to running our own businesses. It seems like the way that we're in relationship with business and work has a familiarity to how we are in relationship with ourselves. So I want to use this episode to dive into our relationship with business and work from an ontological context. What is Covered: -The connection between the way we are in our work and our original family dynamic-Why we seem to always end up in the same job and the same team regardless of the company or the industry-How our mind as a pattern recognition device acts in work environment-Why we can't recognise our parents in our bosses and coworkers -How to begin solving the repeating work patterns -Journaling question: what is your biggest struggle in work at this moment? How familiar is that to your original family dynamics? Brendan Graham Dempsey is an author and speaker specializing in metamodern spirituality, exploring the intersections of traditional faith and contemporary thought. How can ancient faith traditions adapt to the complexities of the modern world? In this episode of Voices with Vervaeke, John Vervaeke and Brendan Graham Dempsey explore the potential for metamodern spirituality to breathe new life into the Christian faith. Dempsey shares his transformative journey from traditional beliefs to a metamodern perspective that integrates ancient doctrines with contemporary thought. Their discussion addresses challenging issues such as historical and postmodern critiques of the Bible, the complex relationship between faith and science, and the psychological underpinnings of religious practices. This conversation aims to rejuvenate our understanding of Christianity and enrich our engagement with reality, setting the stage for future dialogues on the essence of God and the sacred. If we don't have a properly cultivated language of explaining, the gulf between spirituality and science will remain. That is one of the significant drivers of the meaning crisis." - John Vervaeke [00:15:33] "What's the point of the religious relationship to Jesus? Is it to accurately capture the past or wisely prepare you for the future? I think the latter is exactly what it's most properly for."
