This week, the Lautners are joined by singer and songwriter Christina Perri! Christina starts from the very beginning, sharing what led her parents to seek therapy for her at just eight years old, what those early sessions looked like, and how she felt about it all at such a young age. She reflects on the unhealthy coping mechanisms that developed in her late teens and early twenties, her struggles with drugs and alcohol, what ultimately led her to choose sobriety, and offers powerful advice for anyone dealing with addiction or facing the fear and shame of relapse. She also walks us through the whirlwind of when “Jar of Hearts” took off after airing on So You Think You Can Dance and how it catapulted her career. From there, we explore her journey through motherhood—navigating postpartum depression, miscarriage, and stillbirth—and how she approached those conversations with her daughter. Christina opens up about grief, the toll child loss can have on a marriage, and what's helped her heal. To wrap it up, she shares the story behind writing “A Thousand Years” for Breaking Dawn, her love for the Twilight series, and what inspired her to turn the song into a children's book!Be sure to follow Christina https://instagram.com/christinaperri/!Shop Christina's new children's book ‘A Thousand Years' here: https://www.penguinrandomhouse.com/books/722851/a-thousand-years-by-christina-perri-illustrated-by-joy-hwang-ruiz/To email us your questions or share your story, you can reach out to lautner.thesqueezepodcast@gmail.comBe sure to rate, review, and follow the podcast so you don't miss an episode! Well, if you ever wanted to hear a 2-hour-ish rumination on the confusing and contradictory sexual politics of THE TWILIGHT SAGA, you're in luck. How does this series feel like an obvious metaphor for Christian purity culture while also having no sense of its own metaphorical resonance? What does Renesmee's “miraculous” conception say about the films' attitudes towards sex? Is it possible to tell a compelling story about a human-vampire romance if that story is solely in service to a stereotypical “happily-ever-after”? It's a minefield! At least the Volturi are fun. 62: BREAKING DAWN | Hanan, the Tagalog Goddess of the DawnIt's a new day, a new episode, and finally time to talk about Hanan, the long-overdue Tagalog goddess of dawn! She's been there all along, ushering in the sunrise, bringing in the harvest, and very recently being recruited as the unofficial goddess of the New Year. But why do we know so little about her?Join us as we uncover Hanan's origins, from her celestial family (yes, she's sisters with Mayari and Tala) to her often-overlooked role in Philippine mythology. We take a deep dive into the myth where she blinds the Bakunawa in a cosmic battle to save the moon, a tale that somehow feels like The Nutcracker meets True Blood. We also discuss how modern Filipinos have unofficially assigned her the job of goddess of fresh starts, why her PR team (if she had one) is seriously slacking, and how this forgotten dawn deity deserves a Sailor Moon-style transformation sequence (artists, we need you on this). ✨ Start your day with us, a quiz, and a whole lot of mythological nerding out.—The Gods Must Be Crazy is a podcast on Philippine Mythology hosted by friends Anama Dimapilis and Ice Lacsamana, avid mythology nerds and semi-professional gossips. Well, it's finally happened. Not only have we reached the conclusion of the Twilight Saga (and what a saga it's been!) but we have also reached the exact halfway point of Robert Pattinson's filmography. Or we will have, once we get through this film, which seems to mostly consist of a creepy little girl touching people's faces. There's also a fight scene that lasts for maybe 40 minutes and you will simply not believe how little of that 40 minutes is actually relevant to the plot.Plus, Harry is baffled by how the Volturi functions, Stacey gets genuinely quite angry at Stephenie Meyer, and we just can't work out what Jacob is still doing in these films.Don't forget to subscribe to Poster Boys, and leave us a comment and rating!Keen to see our beautiful faces? Oh my gosh, folks. We did it. We got to the end. *Aro laugh inserted* We have made it through the entire Twilight Saga. 2012 certainly was a time to make movies look like an Avengers film. I'm glad you took this ride with me. I hope you enjoyed it. I hope you had as much fun as I did. As we mentioned in the show, if there are some other sagas you think the three of us should tackle or if you think Alex and Luke should have had to watch these movies or we should do some other fun films, let us know online and let us know who you think should be the reigning monarch of Team: Somebody else.
If there is anything breaking: it's our hearts. The time had come to say goodbye to reading Twilight with the lukewarm conclusion to Breaking Dawn. Laura and Meggie are ready to give you their takes on everything: Bella's new life as a vampire (complete with vampire powers), the nonexistent all-powerful Vampire fight, and most importantly more in depth discussions on how Jacob imprinted on a baby, like how he gave her a promise ring for Christmas (gross). All this and more, tune in!
We've been bitten. That's it. That's the description.
Folks! Grab your recently married spouses and head off to a privately owned island in Brazil because we're talking about the most horrifying movie in the Twilight Saga to date. Not this movie touting the virtues of waiting until marriage to have sex, only to show the more horrific consequence of it. Sorry, Bella. You deserved better. But at least we know Kristen Stewart is a wonderful queer icon nowadays. (unless she does something to get herself cancelled and then we never liked her in the first place, phew. I sure am glad no one reads the show notes.) Anyway. Join us for this 2011 hit and see if comic book movies had ANY impact on the way this film was put together. (spoiler alert. It did). LINKS! -
Meggie and Laura are BACK to finish up the Twilight series with their insight on the first half of Breaking Dawn. You know what they say: first comes love, then comes marriage, and then on your honeymoon you get pregnant with a vampire child and go through an expedited pregnancy that culminates in your fetus gnawing its way out of your fragile human body -- aw, cute! While Edward and Bella are planning their new parenthood and eternity as vampires, Jacob (who's moody af now) ends up leaving his wolf pack to protect the Cullen family and be his dramatic self.
Join us with guest Meg, professional podcast stalker who wormed her way into our lives (aka our friend) to talk about the movie Breaking Dawn Part 2. Yes, Cam has finally seen That Scene and it was delightful to witness. We can officially say Cam has been bitten.
PART ONE OF TWO!!! Much like Lord of the Rings or Wicked or Breaking Dawn. Our Princess Diana saga continues as we cover Princess Diana's engagement and early marriage. We also experiment with new, fun, podcast dynamics, such as eating candy directly into the microphone and throwing things across the room! We like to keep it fresh here on Girl Historians. The girls also have their first fight, talk about Elton John and his shopping addiction, and Carley finally reveals her rising sign! Everyone is sketchy and confusing in this chapter.

Movie episodes are always some of our favourites so enjoy hearing our return to simping over Robert Pattinson and commentary on the amazing music choices and how NASTY pregnant Bella looks. Enjoy!

Watch us unravel as we recap the most fucked installment of the Twilight series yet, BREAKING DAWN PT. 1!!! Thank god we are joined by Horrorspondent, Joel Jensen, who wrote this Letterboxd review that is now burned into our brain: "There is no story here, only an all-pervading pathology hallucinated into being through the instruments of our generation's best and worst actors, all buckling under the weight of delirious conservatism and craven market exploitation. A defining document of American Puritanism in that it bears no meaning, only fear and shareholder value. Fear of sex, yes, but also of virginity. Fear of both abortion and motherhood, of fetus and baby, of hate and love, of fathers and lovers, of Brazil and Switzerland." thank you joel we love you
