Rating Out of 5 What the Actual Fuck Was This Brian: .01/5 Darryl: 1/5 Project Hail Mary (2026) Release Date: March 20, 2026 Runtime: 156 minutes Director: Phil Lord and Christopher Miller Writer: Drew Goddard Based On: Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir Studios: Lord Miller Productions, Pascal Pictures, Open Invite Films, and Waypoint Entertainment Distributor: Amazon MGM Studios (U.S. and Canada), Sony Pictures Releasing International (international) Summary: Ryland Grace wakes up alone aboard a spacecraft with no memory of who he is or why he is there, only to slowly realize he has been sent on a desperate mission to save Earth from an extinction-level threat. What starts as a survival mystery turns into a science-heavy, emotionally warm space adventure built around problem-solving, sacrifice, and an unexpected interstellar friendship. Main Cast: Ryan Gosling as Ryland Grace Sandra Hüller as Eva Stratt James Ortiz as Rocky Lionel Boyce as Carl Milana Vayntrub as Olesya Ilyukhina Ken Leung as Yao Priya Kansara as Mary Bastian Antonio Fuentes as Parker Production Notes: The film was directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller and adapted by Drew Goddard, who also wrote The Martian, giving this one a similar mix of hard-science problem solving, humor, and crowd-pleasing momentum. Production shot in the United Kingdom, with principal photography running from June through October 2024, centered at Shepperton Studios. The movie's cinematography was handled by Greig Fraser, with editing by Chris Dickens and Joel Negron, and music by Daniel Pemberton. One of the big talking points around the movie is how heavily it leans on practical filmmaking. Lord and Miller said the production avoided green screens on set, relying instead on built environments, controlled lighting, puppetry, and VFX enhancement later. Rocky was brought to life through a combination of puppetry, animatronics, and digital effects, with James Ortiz both performing and voicing the character. The approach clearly connected with audiences. The film opened to about $80.6 million domestic and roughly $141 million worldwide, making it Amazon MGM's biggest opening and the biggest opening weekend of 2026 so far. It was also produced at blockbuster scale, with reporting placing the budget around $200 million net. Filmmaker Alexis Lloyd has made a distinctive impact on contemporary cinema with Group: The Schopenhauer Effect, currently in its theatrical run at The Quad Cinema in Greenwich Village, NYC. The film draws deeply from his upbringing immersed in psychiatry and psychoanalysis, blending that foundation with his passion for storytelling. Conceived as a prequel to his acclaimed, eponymous YouTube web series, the project offers a poignant exploration of the conflicts, epiphanies, and catharses that emerge within group therapy.Released five years after the first season, the film reunites much of the original cast while introducing a pivotal new character portrayed by Thomas Sadoski, reuniting Lloyd with one of his frequent collaborators. Sadoski plays a documentarian named Alexis, caught between artistic ambition and financial survival, who must earn the group's trust while seeking permission to use their sessions professionally—an inherently delicate and potentially disruptive undertaking.Lloyd's last feature, 30 Beats, is an ensemble exploration of sexual compulsivity and the longing for connection, featuring Sadoski alongside Lee Pace, Justin Kirk, Paz de la Huerta, and Jennifer Tilly. Earlier in his career, he directed several short films, including Indiscretion (2001) and Le 10ème Jour (2003).In addition to his work as a filmmaker, Lloyd had a prolific career as Managing Director at Pathé, where he oversaw distribution on a range of influential films, including Basquiat, Swingers, Pi, The Virgin Suicides, Memento, The Blair Witch Project, Bound, Austin Powers, The Fifth Element, and The Spanish Prisoner. In our conversation, we explore the origins of his interest in mental health storytelling, the response to his latest feature, the challenges of filming during COVID-19, and why casting a real psychoanalyst was essential to creating an authentic group dynamic.Opening Credits: Ketsa - Goes Red I CC BY 4.0; Pierce Murphy - Chania I CC BY 4.0. Director Edgar Wright has remade The Running Man! The Richard Bachman (Stephen King) 1982 novel was set in a dystopian United States during the year 2025, so I guess this is the year to remake it. We talk about the superior adaptation from 1987 starring Arnold Schwarzenegger. Then we get into the new one starring Glen Powell. The cast of the new Running Man also features William H. Macy, Lee Pace, Michael Cera, Emilia Jones, Daniel Ezra, Jayme Lawson, Sean Hayes, Colman Domingo, and Josh Brolin. Glen Powell stars as Ben Richards who goes on a dangerous network TV reality show to try to survive 30 days and possibly win $1 billion dollars. Now we live in a world where the mass media is in heavy decline and The Running Man seems like a satire of network television that is way outdated. And that's just one of the many criticisms we'll throw at this latest rendition of The Running Man!

The year 2025 is the year of adapting Stephen King books, where in one it's people walking, “The Long Walk” and in another they're running, this episode's movie, “The Running Man.” If this movie sounds familiar, Arnold Schwarzenegger was in the first movie, “The Running Man”, made in 1988. In this remake, it's Glen Powell taking the lead role of Ben Richards. A man who finds himself thrust into a game, called “The Running Man”, where people are hunted down to the death, but if you survive for 30 days you get to live a life of luxury. Of course you have to survive being hunted down by professional killers with endless technology and weapons on their side. Also, any citizen who recognizes you can record and report you or just plain kill you on the spot. Is the game rigged? Can Ben survive? Is it worth a trip to the theater to find out? Check out this episode of Movies Merica to find out! “The Running Man” also stars Jayme Lawson, William H. PLOT SUMMARY: In a near-future society, The Running Man is the top-rated show on television—a deadly competition where contestants, known as Runners, must survive 30 days while being hunted by professional assassins, with every move broadcast to a bloodthirsty public and each day bringing a greater cash reward. Desperate to save his sick daughter, working-class Ben Richards (Glen Powell) is convinced by the show's charming but ruthless producer, Dan Killian (Josh Brolin), to enter the game as a last resort. But Ben's defiance, instincts, and grit turn him into an unexpected fan favorite—and a threat to the entire system. As ratings skyrocket, so does the danger, and Ben must outwit not just the Hunters, but a nation addicted to watching him fall. Based upon the 1982 Stephen King sci-fi novel of the same name, this dystopian action thriller takes place in a not-too-distant-future where just a few select corporations run everything and one of them controls most of the entertainment, including THE most popular show on TV, "The Running Man."  Our beleaguered hero Ben Richards (Glenn Powell) enlists for this high-stakes reality show which involves him...you guessed it....on the run from various "hunters" who are seeking out him with plans to kill him, anywhere in the country.  Directed by acclaimed genre filmmaker Edgar Wright (Shaun of the Dead, Baby Driver, Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World), this is NOT a remake of the 1987 cult classic of the same name starring Arnold Schwarzenegger.  (Though that film was a loose adaptation of the same novel)  And it features LOTS and LOTS of running, go figure! :) Also among the stacked cast are Josh Brolin, Jayme Lawson, Colman Domingo, Michael Cera, and Lee Pace. Host: Geoff GershonEdited By Ella GershonProducer: Marlene Gershon Send us a textSupport the showhttps://livingforthecinema.com/Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/Living-for-the-Cinema-Podcast-101167838847578Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/livingforthecinema/Letterboxd:https://letterboxd.com/Living4Cinema/

In a near-future society, The Running Man is the top-rated show on television—a deadly competition where contestants, known as Runners, must survive 30 days while being hunted by professional assassins, with every move broadcast to a bloodthirsty public and each day bringing a greater cash reward. The Running Man releases exclusively in theatres November 14, 2025. ERK sits with actor LEE PACE amidst his newest box office release THE RUNNING MAN. Despite his reservations for such a tall convo, Lee dives deep sharing his career journey from Texas to Juilliard to the stage to the big screen with his roles in THE NORMAL HEART, SOLDIER'S GIRL, THE FALL PUSHING DAISIES, TWILIGHT, THE HOBBIT, GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY, and more. He ponders his perspective shift as an actor, dishes some fun behind the scenes moments with SARAH MICHELLE GELLAR, and clears the record that he is indeed six-foot-five…on a good day. How terrible is this story trajectory? How obnoxious is the titular Henry? Why was this the only way forward this supposed kid genius could think up to solve this problem with the neighbors? How depressingly wasted is Dean Norris in this movie? Does Sarah Silverman's character have a thing for the kid? And why did they even bother having this Lee Pace doctor character come back into the movie? PLUS: How about we start auditioning a little more thoroughly for these school talent shows, huh? The Book of Henry stars Naomi Watts, Jaeden Martell, Jacob Tremblay, Dean Norris, Lee Pace, Maddie Ziegler, Tonya Pinkins, Bobby Moynihan, and Sarah Silverman as Sheila; directed by Colin Trevorrow.
