Her work combines photography, quilting, and design to examine Black girlhood and Black feminine domestic identity.  Operating in the intersections between creative play and domestic labor, Thomas' work is inspired by her mother often creating in collaboration with and for her. Working primarily with textiles and archival family photos Thomas participates in liberatory Black homemaking practices and oral storytelling traditions that have been passed down through generations of Black mothers, sisters, and friends. Currently serving as an Americorp Artist in Residence at 901 Arts in Baltimore, MD, Thomas continues to pass along these traditions to youth by teaching with a commitment to care, joy, and radical imaginative creation. She holds a BS in Graphic design from Stevenson University and an MFA in Community Art from the Maryland Institute College of Art.Christopher Metzger is a socially engaged artist/educator living and working in Baltimore, MD. As Professor and Department Chair of Art and Graphic Design at Stevenson University, his creative practice often engages communities in collaborative-based projects that encourage an exploration of self within larger social frameworks. Centered on fostering community and the investigation of representational justice through a historical and contemporary lens, his work often critiques and challenges the status quo while developing critical perspectives and an urgency to bring about social change through acts of creative resistance.Working primarily within photographic media and design, Metzger's personal work is deeply rooted in, and informed by, his relationship to his wife and kids, a Black woman and two biracial sons. Often dealing with themes related to race, class, and identity, they examine their lived experiences through their individual identities and memories, while navigating places and spaces collectively as a family in search of joy, love, and truth.As an artist/educator, Metzger has come to embrace the symbiotic nature of his creative practice. His art is his teaching, and his teaching is his art. For Metzger, these identities are one in the same. 260413PC Es ist eine Lust zu leben Mensch Mahler am 13.4.2026Slow Food, Grill, Garten, Pool, Sauna – die Frühjahrsmesse ist wie jedes Jahr eine Lust. Und es ist voll in den Messehallen. Kochshows, Grillweltmeisterschaften, Metzger zerlegen in Rekordzeit Schweinhälften in leckeres Grillgut. Draußen – super Wetter, Fassbier, Grillwürstchen. Die Menschen – sorry – überwiegend übergewichtig, schieben sich Körper an Körper schwitzend an den Gourmet-Ständen vorbei. Ein Häppchen hier, ein Schnäpschen da. Es ist nichts, aber auch gar nichts zu merken von Rezension, Inflation und hohen Spritpreisen. Die meisten sind mit dem PKW gekommen, nicht mit den gut angebundenen Öffentlichen. Was ist das? Versrängen der Wirklichkeit? Oder ist das andere – der Frust an den Tankstellen, die Sorge um den Arbeitsplatz, die teuren Lebensmittel Jammern auf hohem Niveau? OK – man muss sich auch fragen, wer nicht auf der Food- und Genussmesse ist. Es gibt sicher viele, die andere Sorgen plagen als der Whirlpool im Garten. Oder die Rib-Eye Steaks vom Waguy-Rind auf dem Monstergrill.Ein Fakten-Check wäre hilfreich. Wem geht es supergut in unserem Land, wem so la-la und wem richtig schlecht. Klar ist: die Verteilung ist das Problem. Sicher ist auch: die wirklich Reichen müssen sich mehr am Staatshaushalt beteiligen als bisher. Soziale Gerechtigkeit. Ein großer Begriff. Auf der Genussmesse steht auch ein Stand von Brot für die Welt. Er wirkt verloren inmitten der Glamour-Welt drumherum. Wir reden von Problemen im eigenen Land – und das wird von den radikalen Parteien und den Influencern in den sozialen Netzwerken reichlich geschürt. Im Vergleich mit den meisten anderen Ländern geht es uns … na? Hand aufs Herz und Schluss mit Jammern – ja, im Schnitt richtig gut. Es gibt ein Verteilungsproblem – im Land und weltweit. Die spektakuläre Natur dient als Kulisse für Grossproduktionen wie «Herr der Ringe» und in den Filmstudios entstehen Blockbuster wie «Avatar». Regisseur James Cameron liess sich sogar einbürgern und ist jetzt ein Neuseeländer. Genau hier im kreativen Schmelztiegel der Hauptstadt will Richy als Filmemacher Fuss fassen und seine neue Chance nutzen: «Die Filmindustrie ist hier viel offener und neugieriger für Ideen.» Haus am Meer Richy und Carly Hafner leben mit ihren beiden Kindern Riley und Jonah in Eastbourne, einem kleinen Vorort in der Bucht von Wellington.
