Are grain bins all the same? How about dryers? They look the same and they all have the same function. But, their are some differences that are important for farmers to know about before purchasing their next bin or dryer. Damian Mason talks with Johnny Verrell, Chad Henderson and the experts at Superior Grain Equipment about the different options.
Damian talks with Kevin Matthews and Chad Henderson about where they think yield potential is and the limiting factors on their farms that are currently keeping them from getting there.

There is an economic principle that states that, after a certain point, each additional unit of input (like fertilizer) will result in progressively smaller increases in output (like crop yield). This means that there's an optimal amount of fertilizer for a given crop in a given soil, and beyond that point, you're just wasting money. Well, as it turns out, much — or maybe even most — of your applied Phosphorous and Potassium is unavailable for your crops. In the old days of inexpensive fertilizer this was less of a problem. However, as commodity prices dip and fertilizer prices remain elevated, you need to maximize your fertility applications. Chad Henderson maximizes his investment by treating his dry fertilizer with a biocatalyst. The $4 per acre treatment yields Chad an additional 12 bushels while using less fertilizer. Agronomist Steve Sexton explains how it works. Presented by Loveland Products
Russ Uselton's farm ground is so rough and rocky, he jokes that he looks south from his Tennessee perch and yearns for Chad Henderson's red Alabama clay. All kidding aside, Russ — who started from scratch — is building a business on highly erodible, small patch farming, with a mixture of crops and cows. The first generation farmer bought cattle in 2005 and planted his first crop in 2018. Today he runs 200 cow-calf pairs on 1,000 acres of pasture and farms 500 acres of corn and soy. Russ talks to Damian about starting out, why he has to use cover crops, and the creativity required when you only own 40 acres! Presented by Advanced Drainage Systems
When Should You Push Your Soybeans? Chad Henderson and Kevin Matthews are no stranger to high yielding soybeans. They discuss their soybean fertility programs with Damian Mason, and share their secrets for picking up extra yield by spoonfeeding their soybeans at specific times during the season.
We remember falling in love with Hop Drop N Roll...Back before we started BGR, NoDa Brewing's Hop Drop N Roll was one of the beers we would mule back when we went to the Carolinas. Pickings were still a bit slim here in Georgia and it was a banger of a West Coast IPA. It still is, but there's so much more beer out there now. You'll notice (hopefully) that I'm (Tim) absent from this episode (show). Brian noted it as "on assignment," that assignment was a health scare with my dear old (83) dad. He's stable now, but not great. Y'all keep send him some good vibes or send up prayers if you do that sort of thing, please. Thanks.Fortunately, Nate and Brian kept the party going as they chatted with NoDa's co-founder and head brewer Chad Henderson. They start the show off with some discussion on which generation drinks the most, with Gen Z really lagging on doing their part for the alcohol beverage industry. You look Gordgeous!Chad shares about their lovely beers, like Hop Drop N Roll, SLURP, their medal-winning Gordgeous pumpkin ale, and some upcoming Holiday goodies. We learn about NoDa's support for Pints for Prostates, talk all about they Cheerwine collaboration ale, and some chatter on raw ales and their Nordic Raw Stout. The Great American Beer Festival just wrapped up and announced their winners list. There's an old saying about good things taking time. Such is the promise of biological crop inputs— while they do provide an immediate result, their larger benefit accumulates over time. Chad Henderson compares biological usage to chicken litter. “We've been using chicken litter a long time. You don't see immediate results…But by the third year of chicken litter, you can definitely see things changing in your soil.” Chad joins Holganix's Mike Batson and Damian Mason to discuss the cumulative effect of biologicals. Presented by Advanced Drainage Systems
Biologicals have emerged in force over the past decade. Do you apply biologicals and if so, when? Chad Henderson discusses his large-scale trials of applying biologicals post - harvest. The benefits: Breaking down fodder, releasing nutrients, enhancing soil biology, and several other things you'll find out if you listen to this episode! Chad is joined by Holganix's Mike Batson and host Damian Mason. Presented by Advanced Drainage Systems
Chad Henderson talks with Damian about making sustainability work on his farm. He shares a few things he is doing that are completely different from what they were a decade ago...and its working.
Damian breaks down planter upgrades with Mike Evans and Chad Henderson.
Chemistry is a challenging subject and we don't claim to be chemists here at XA but we do know this: Your soil needs balance between positive and negative charged elements to achieve high yielding crops. Or, as Kelly Garrett says, “There are less depleted soils than there are out-of-balance soils.” Agronomist Mike Evans joins Chad Henderson to talk about soil chemistry. Presented by AgXplore
Chad Henderson and Molly Alexander from AgroLiquid talk to Damian Mason about 4 big things that farmers should think about in order to get the most bang for their buck when farming on soils with lower cation exchange capacities.
Are your plants hormone imbalanced? There is probably a good chance they are. Damian talks with Chad Henderson and Dale Hanke from Stoller about what you need to know about the 5 principal hormone families. What their roles are and how to manage them to maximize plant health.

We're talking about irrigation, specifically subsurface drip irrigation. You have questions, so do we. Kurt Grimm with NutraDrip is going to answer those questions because Chad Henderson is looking at the possibility of putting in subsurface drip irrigation on his Alabama farm. Does it work on all geographies? Does it Save Water? How deep is it installed? Do I need to change my farming practices?
The "#SendIt Twins", Temple Rhodes and Chad Henderson sit down with AgXplore's Drew Parker at the 2023 Commodity Classic to discuss their key's to success, key learnings since they first started farming, using tissue samples to stay proactive instead of reactive during the season, and a bunch more.
Nutrient reallocation is really fertilizer re-location. Kelly Garrett and Chad Henderson join Nachur's Tommy Roach and Precision Planting's Jason Webster for a panel discussion at 2023 Commodity Classic on where to put your fertilizer to get the biggest bang for your buck.
Face it, wheat production is often last on the list when it comes to the love and attention you devote (or don't!) to the golden grain. But it shouldn't be mistreated, it should be carefully treated, especially if you want bigger yields and bigger profits. Temple Rhodes and Chad Henderson team up in this podcast to share the practices and products they utilize to grow high yield wheat. There's a ton of information here and, frankly, these guys put in a lot of effort with their wheat. If you're serious about wheat production and you want to treat it like the primary and profitable crop it can be, get your notepad ready because there are awesome lessons here from the #SendIt Twins of XtremeAg! Presented by AgXplore
There comes a time each season when you look at your fields and say, “this crop is made, nothing from here on will change the yield.” But what if we've been wrong about that and it's not too late? What if another pass — even if it's only a month or so before the combines roll — could make a meaningful difference to yield for a small price? Chad Henderson and Temple Rhodes experimented with late (late!) season corn applications with a mix of fertility products, fungicide, insecticide, plant growth regulators, and sugar. The results were impressive. Chad and Temple explain their experiment and why they intend to “send it” again next year! Presented by AgXplore
Drain tile systems have come a long way in the last 20 years. What started as a functional way to drain water off a field has now become a a complete water management system that delivers precision control of the water table in their field. Damian talks with Darla Huff from ADS and Chad Henderson about the high-tech drain tile system he installed this spring.
Chad Henderson has been applying sugar to his crop well before it was a "thing." In fact, before it was commercially available for agriculture use, Chad got his supply from the local warehouse supermarket until they stopped selling it to him as they thought he was making illegal whiskey. He knows it increases yield, but is he right? We ask the experts at Teva Corporation: why corn needs sugar?
Tile drainage isn't really tile — it's corrugated, perforated, plastic pipe. Maybe you know that or maybe the concept of subsurface farm drainage is new to you. Either way, you should listen to this two-part episode about the benefits and payoffs of tile drainage. Tile drainage is water management and it is good for the environment, your soil, and your bottom line. Lee Lubbers says tile drainage is a triple payoff through appreciation, depreciation, and asset improvement! Lee is joined by Chad Henderson who explains his 90 acre project complete with lift station, and Kevin Matthews who began installing tile on his North Carolina farms 15 years ago. There's a lot to consider heading into any new crop year but especially as we prepare for 2022 with record run-ups in input prices, lack of input inventory, Covid marketplace impacts, and uncertainty. One consideration always in play is whether or not to alter the crop rotation. XtremeAg farmer, Chad Henderson explains why he's staying the course in 2022 with his usual crop acreage splits. That is, unless the weather throws him a curve ball this spring. Chad explains the reasons and experiences that guided his decision against making radical changes to his cropping plan. Principal among them: "Crop rotation makes bushels and bushels make us money.” Presented by Advanced Drainage Systems.
Winter is a good time to reflect back on what the prior farming season taught us and how we can apply those lessons for success in the new year. Alabama farm operator and XtremeAg co-founder Chad Henderson discusses some of his 2021 investments and ventures. He also covers the business and personal lessons he's applying for a more prosperous 2022. From installing drainage (for the first time!), to practicing patience as a manager, Chad has plenty of lessons to share from the year that was. Presented by Advanced Drainage Systems
Marrone Bio is a 15 year old Agricultural company you've probably never heard of if you're in the business of producing row crops. That's because Marrone Bio's roots are in products for horticulture and specialty crops. But that's changing as the company is bringing innovative, abiotic stress reduction products to the marketplace. XtremeAg farmer Chad Henderson is trialing two Marrone products this year on 500 acres of corn and soybeans. Emergen (applied in-furrow) and Pacesetter (applied as a foliar at time of fungicide application), have one job: to reduce plant stress. Or, as Chad says, “they keep my crops from having a bad day.” And based on what he's seeing on his farm, you'll want to do the same. Presented by Advanced Drainage Systems
Your grandfather probably applied boron to his crops but your father very likely didn't. Why? Because boron was standard chemistry back in the old days, then boron became uncool as agriculture moved away from micro nutrients. But boron is back and proper application of this micro nutrient can make you money with a minimal investment. Wendall Boehlje with U.S. Borax joins yield record setter Chad Henderson to explain boron's contribution to your yield.

Inside your combine there are a LOT of moving parts and some of those parts — specifically your machine's concaves — might not be pulling their weight. What if an $8,000 change got you through harvest 25% faster, or allowed you to increase the size of your combine head — without changing out your combine? What if your combine's concaves are losing a bushel per acre out the rear end of the machine? Or worse yet, grinding and splitting your crop or allowing too much foreign matter to end up in the hopper? Chances are, you don't think a lot about the belly of your machine but you should. Chad Henderson discusses the benefits he's seen on his Alabama farm by making a simple change to the XPR2 Concaves by Estes Performance Concaves. Presented by Advanced Drainage Systems

Oftentimes urban and suburban encroachment impacts farming operations as farm land is sold off for development. If you're the fortunate owner who sells former farm property for 30- 50,000 dollars per acre, you simply have a tax problem. But what if you're the tenant farmer? Where do you go to pick up acres to keep your operation rolling? Chad Henderson rented 1,200 acres 140 miles away to offset land lost to development. After two complete crop seasons farming from a distance, he offers his lessons on making it work.

On February 25, Chad Henderson, head brewer and co-owner of NoDa Brewing Company, shared his story and spoke on the theme of "Overcoming." Henderson was the brewer at NoDa when it opened in 2011 on North Davidson Street. Despite massive growth, he has stayed true to the brand and homebrew roots, and he still excited. Supposedly he does take a day off every now and then, though you wouldn't know it. Whether it's brewing new recipes (and participating in zany YouTube videos) for the weekly releases or representing the brewery at events, this homebrewer turned pro is seemingly everywhere. Brewing is more than a job for Chad; it's a passion—which shows in NoDa's beers.

Chad Henderson of NoDa Brewing talks about how changes in the law in North Carolina a few years back helped pave the way for his brewery, and how a simple conversation at a the Denver Rare Beer Tasting event helped him peruse his dream of brewing.
Founders' All Day IPA. Firestone Walker's 805 Blonde Ale. Victory’s Golden Monkey Tripel. These are all examples of brands that have shaped bottom lines and shifted futures for some of the country’s biggest breweries. For most of them, that runaway success and influence came about serendipitously. These are business-altering beers that now steer the course of their respective companies—and there are plenty of other examples of similar players scattered across the country. In today’s podcast, we’re going to hear about one of those—and how in 2014, an IPA from a 9,000-barrel brewery in Charlotte, North Carolina, completely changed the trajectory of the personal and professional life of its head brewer, Chad Henderson. That beer is NoDa Brewing Company’s Hop, Drop 'n Roll, the 2014 World Beer Cup gold medal winner in the American-Style IPA category. It’s a West Coast IPA that continues to move fast to this day, even in an era of hazy, juicy counterparts. Five years ago, when some kind of monumental success at the bi-annual, global competition was the last thing Chad was expecting, his world got turned upside down. In this conversation, we follow this path of how a single beer changed so much for Chad, NoDa’s co-owners Todd and Suzie Ford, and the brewery itself. From sales, to quality control, to management of the NoDa beer portfolio, Hop, Drop 'n Roll is a continuous thread that runs through it all. It helped push the brewery to almost 16,000 BBLs' of production last year. And, perhaps unsurprisingly, we’ll also mention a little about making hard seltzer, too. After all, if you’re talking IPA, you might as well hit on one of the other most important categories impacting beer and breweries in 2019. For now, let’s shift to hops. This is Chad Henderson, head brewer and co-owner of NoDa Brewing Company. Listen in.
