Coming soon to corporate financial statements: a lot more tax transparency. After seven years and three rounds of proposals, the Financial Accounting Standards Board in December published new rules requiring companies to shed light on the income taxes they pay to federal, international, and state governments. The disclosure rules, which kick in as early as 2025, are a response to years of complaints that current financial reporting rules offer too few details about tax obligations. Soon, companies will have to separately list any jurisdiction that accounts for more than 5% of their total tax obligations. Publicly traded companies will have to further break down how they calculated their effective tax rate, so investors and other financial statement readers can contrast it with their statutory rate. Bloomberg Tax reporter Nicola M. White spoke with David Gonzales, a vice president at Moody's Investors Service, about what kind of details companies will have to provide and how investors and analysts could use them. Have you ever asked yourself, “When I die, what am I going to leave behind? Will it be a better place because of me?” The only thing you will leave behind will be the memories people have of you: the good ones and the bad ones too (because everyone has both). What kind of impact will you leave with them? Would you live your life hoping that when we're gone, the world will be a better place because of what we've done in it and how we've made it better while we were here? This week's ikala Podcast episode, David Gonzales interviews Barry Tamani. Barry is an Outreach Pastor of Com3unity Church and a leadership coach for Chick-Fil-A in Fremont, California off of Mowry and Auto Mall Parkway. He is a father of four, and married to his wife Jessennia Tamani. They will talk about the power of creating a community around the mission and values you stand for, in order to inspire future leaders. They will also talk about how words can connect with one another in creating a legacy and leave impactful memories that will inspire future leaders and breed loyalty for the coming generations. They will touch on such topics as: The past is a place of regrets and consequences, but it can also be a place of inspiration. We think that it's important for young people to know their mistakes and understand their consequences in order to grow as individuals, but we also believe that those same people can use their mistakes to inspire them. When you're vulnerable, you invite people to relate. But it's also the healing that starts when you can be real honest with yourself and others. In order for someone else to feel comfortable opening up about their own vulnerabilities, they need a safe space where they won't feel judged or criticized for doing so. And this is where vulnerability comes into play: being able to be open and honest about who you are and what matters most in your life means that other people will feel comfortable doing the same thing with their own lives. You can let yourself be seen in all your messy, imperfect glory—and that's where the magic happens. There is a power from your words and it's not just about telling a good story; it's about using your words to help others and make an impact on the world around me. The legacy you leave behind is what you made of yourself when you were alive. A legacy that is yours alone, but one that you can share with others because it will be passed on through their stories about you. The easiest way to leave a legacy is to live with intention. To choose what matters most to you and focus your efforts there. To make mistakes and learn from them—not because they're failures, but because they're opportunities for growth and wisdom.       P.S. How We Can Make The World A Better Place By Celebrating Our Collective Humanity with Juan Carlos Martinez

You've all heard that quote, “If you want something done well, do it yourself.” But how many of us apply those words to our lives? How many of us actually start taking big steps towards being a changemaker? How would you like to contribute to the world, especially if you are a man of colors, and be able to provide the resources and opportunities needed by those who aren't getting them because of the race and discrimination? This week's ikala Podcast episode, David Gonzales interviews Juan Carlos Martinez, aka Don Juan the barber. Don Juan owned two business barber shops in Fremont, California, and has been cutting hair for most of his life. His business has grown to a point where it supports delivering a quality service experience for every customer who comes in. They will talk about building a community with different ethnicities, and how it's not just the people you choose to surround yourself with, but also the people you choose to serve. They will also be talking about empathy and compassion—how you can be kinder to yourself and others by being more understanding of the plights of others. And manifesting your own destiny—how you can make your life better by making small changes every day. They will touch on such topics as: Stop waiting for things to happen, and start making things happen! The only way you could create your audacity is by doing it. A good worth ethic will teach you how to save money and get to the place where you are going. It's important to have empathy towards people, because it helps us to feel connected to others. If you don't believe in yourself enough to speak out loud about what you're thinking or what you're doing, nobody else is gonna believe in you. If someone steals your idea, that's even good because that's letting you know that you were smart enough to come up with an idea that somebody else wants. Don't let anybody tell you you can't. If they say it's not on the menu, bake it yourself. That's how you do it. Whatever your plan is, there are alleys and avenues to help you reach your destination point. But if you don't talk about it, you don't manifest it. Being part of a community means being part of something bigger than yourself—and when you're surrounded by people who believe in your ability to succeed at anything you put your mind to, you can't help but feel stronger than ever before! Community is what makes us human: it's the way we connect with one another, the way we create space for each other to be ourselves, and the way we show up for each other when life gets tough. Community helps us find our purpose—it gives us hope when things seem hopeless; it encourages us when we're afraid to take action; and it reminds us that we have the power to change our own lives and make them better for ourselves and for others. Life after brain injury will be full of challenges, but how can you overcome these obstacles in order to regain a sense of purpose in life? How can you find support through these difficult times, so you won't feel alone walking down the unknown road of the recovery process? This week's ikala Podcast episode, David Gonzales interviews Karen Chapman. Karen is a Long Island native New Yorker. She's a mother of three and a longtime school teacher, and she's also a self professed health and fitness enthusiast. Her passion for fitness is obvious in the way she lives her life, as evidenced by her daily regimen of CrossFit. They will talk about Karen's brain injury experience, her near-death experience, her recovery and what happened from there; how that affected both her professional and personal life, the emotional and psychological implications of having a family member that close to death, and what it taught her about herself and her relationships with other people. Disclaimer: This podcast episode talks about depression, anxiety, and near life-death experiences. If you're currently struggling with any of those things, we hope this episode will be an encouragement and help to you. If you aren't currently struggling with any of these issues, but have had a friend or family member who has struggled with them in the past—or if you just want to learn more about them—we think this episode will be illuminating as well. If you're feeling triggered during this episode, please take care of yourself by taking a break. You can always come back later (or even skip this episode altogether) when you feel ready. They will touch on such topics as: If you've just had brain surgery, I'm sure you must be having a hard time coping with the pain and hardship. But bear this in your mind, the road to recovery will not be that smooth. You need to take care of yourself before you can start taking those long walks outside of your home again. There are many ways to change your life and make it more satisfying and fulfilling, especially if you've had a dark time in your life and now want to live again. Your near death experience can change your mindset completely and it gives you a new perspective on life. It will help you realize what's important and what really doesn't matter that much anymore. Your situation might scare you, but always remember that's how we grow. There's a lot of fear associated with the unknown, and it can be hard to get past it. It's so important to talk to someone who has been through something similar—someone who has dealt with the same problems and made it through the other side. You need someone who can empathize with what you're going through and tell you that yes, you can make it through too! Community is a huge part of everyone's lives. Connection helps us grow as people and learn how to get along with each other better. There are so many things in life that can make us feel isolated and alone, but when you have people who are there for you through thick and thin, it's like having your own personal support system wherever you go. We have compassion for people who are hurting because they remind us of ourselves—we recognize our own pain in them, and then we want to do something about it. P.S. Have you ever gone to a CrossFit gym, looked around and thought: "I don't belong here." because you feel intimidated with the routine and work-out? You might be ready to try CrossFit, but you are hesitant and scared because you don't know how CrossFit works or you believe it might be dangerous? This week's ikala Podcast episode, our host David Gonzales goes solo to talk about understanding the new trend to help you get rid of any misconception about CrossFit and prepares you for starting your own CrossFit routine to improve your health, decrease body fat and increase fitness. He will touch on such topics as: Most people are getting intimidated by CrossFit because of what they allow social media to do for them. They think that they will not be able to do it right or that they won't be able to master the movements because they don't know how everything works together yet. It's important that you have a good understanding of the basic movements before you start trying to mix them up into workouts. It's also important that you learn how to execute these movements correctly so that you can avoid injuries when lifting heavy weights. CrossFit isn't just about pull-ups—or even just weights. It has a lot of different kinds of exercises, and each one works a different muscle group (or sets of muscles). It also helps you learn how to work through pain and discomfort, which is an important skill if you're going to be living an active life. P.S. We all want to become better versions of ourselves, right? But, how do you improve your physical and mental health, manage the challenges of commute time, family, and stress and still maintain a good work/life balance? How can you build up a habit that can help you improve yourself every day? This week's ikala Podcast episode, our host David Gonzales interviews Candice Nunez. They will talk about how the discipline of caring for yourself physically and mentally will not only improve your self confidence but benefit you both, mentally and spiritually. Candice was born and raised in Fremont, California. She is a mother of three, and a grandmother of four. She is a member of the gym, and has been a Crossfit member for over a year. She goes to the gym to improve her mental health and to take care of herself. Candice felt like getting healthy would be a good thing for her physical and mental health. The gym allowed her to relieve stress, and to make herself feel better.   They will touch on such topics as: If you don't put the work in, it's not gonna come to you. Not everybody's blessed that way. Sports bring discipline and good work ethics. At the end of the day, we're all gonna end up in the same destination. We're all heading towards the same destination as we go through life. No one's gonna take care of you except you. You got to make yourself better. Without pushing yourself, you 'll just be doing the same thing every time. Work-out challenges you to bring out the best of you. The unknown is always scary. But once you try it, it will change your mentality. Sometimes it's good to be selfish, because you have to take care of yourself before you take care of others. If you're stuck in a position and you're content where you're at - you are not living, you are just surviving. To be successful, you have to get a little uncomfortable at times, fall sometimes, and then get back up. Mistakes are good. Don't be afraid to make mistakes, because that's where you learn from them.  P.S. Subscribe, rate, and review Here We are hosting a raffle through the end of November! How To Improve Your Training By Applying The Five Fundamentals Of Parkour with Darryl “Wavezilla” Stingley

ikala

Play Episode Listen Later Oct 7, 2022 51:14

What does "sport" really mean? Overuse, direct impact, or the application of force that is greater than the body part can structurally withstand are the common reasons why an athlete gets injured. But how can a person understand fundamental movements and integrate them into training? Can a sport help a person overcome their fears? Darryl Stingley represents a modern day breed of human beings that seem to possess supernatural powers when it comes to their ability to move. Although these individuals are rare, there are enough of them in the world that they no longer go unnoticed. I'm talking about freerunners- athletes that practice the art of Parkour, a discipline with roots in military escape and evasion tactics originating in France in the late '80s. Fast forward thirty plus years and here we are, bearing witness to a self-regulated, fully functioning, interdependent community of athletes dedicated to the exploration of movement. Movement that is expressed through the navigation of the most fluid, effective, efficient, creative, and original fashion possible. This week's ikala Podcast episode, our host David Gonzales interviews Darryl Stingley aka Wavezilla. They will talk about integrating the methodology of training in a traditional sense into the actual practice of a person's craft and how to utilize the fundamentals of parkour to enhance a person's training and athleticism in general. They will touch on such topics as: See the world behind the neighborhood fence. There is no limit. There's nothing that you cannot climb. There is a whole other way to use the world than the way that we are taught. Sometimes, we hold back from the opportunities that are coming towards us. It's better to know more than to know less. Just like everyone would say, knowledge is power. And learning more doesn't make you forget the things that you already know. Parkour will help you overcome your fear and utilize your courage in climbing those buildings, whether it be in your everyday life or relationships. It is not just physically healthy, but mentally healthy as well. One of the things that people don't understand is that we create the reality we live in. If you don't think that you can, the only reason you can't is because you don't believe you can. You need to remember that, just like anything, you don't start up high. You start from the ground. Do you ever find yourself afraid of doing something that you want to do, but can't find the courage? But instead of letting fear hold you back, why not use it to your advantage? This week's ikala Podcast episode, our host David Gonzales goes solo to talk about how to use your fear to your advantage by using it to help you achieve your goals and be successful in whatever life throws at you. Fear can either be something that holds you back or you can acknowledge it, use it and make it work for you to achieve your ultimate goal. They will touch on such topics as: Everyone has felt fear. The fear of being different. The fear of not belonging. Courage is the ability to conquer your fears. You cannot have courage without fear. Make your fear work for you, not against you. It's time to lose your fear and harness it for good instead of letting it hold you back from the life you want for yourself. Failures and mistakes are the greatest teacher's of life, that's where we build out wisdom and harness our fear.  P.S. Maintaining a healthy weight is of the utmost importance for your overall health and well-being. There are many benefits which can be achieved solely by adjusting your body weight. But how do you even begin? Are you ready to take action, be disciplined and be consistent in order to achieve that goal? This week's ikala Podcast episode, David Gonzales will be joined by Satya Garika. Satya is a fitness enthusiast. At a young age, Satya saw the importance of physical health. He grew up in an environment where he was empowered to be active. Then he joined Crossfit Fremont where he met people who supported him. They say that you will meet great people everywhere you go, but they are true when you are at Crossfit Fremont. He noticed that he not only improved his physical health but he was happy spending his time in leisure and was passionate about being physically healthy and improving his mental state. They will touch on such topics as: How to find motivation to continue working out by surrounding yourself with the right social environment. Getting into shape isn't just about looking good. It's about living a healthy lifestyle that makes you feel great and gives you more energy to do what you want. Mental fitness is the key to being lively, resilient, active and productive. Be consistent with yourself. You need to step up in your life cause guess what — no one is going to do it for you. It's time to go from zero to one-hundred in order to build your goal and dream. Leave your ego at the door. Know where your limits are but work on it. Do not be intimidated by the people who are stronger than you, make it your motivation to become stronger than you think. It is okay to not lift weights at the beginning, but you need to work at it every time you go in there and eventually you will build your rhythm. You will go through a sweet pain when you start working out. But, when you're done with the workout you'll feel great and pretty soon it gets easier and fun. Taking care of yourself is an investment. Have you ever wanted to do something but when it came down to doing it you were overcome with the feeling of "hold on a minute, what if that doesn't work out"? The moment you finally pause, ask yourself: What was the real reason for your hesitation - is it the fear of failure or fear of success? What can you do to overcome this resistance? This week's ikala Podcast episode, Joewel Pascual and David Gonzales talk about how to overcome hesitation and start taking action in order to achieve your goals. They will touch on such topics as: Stop pushing away your dream just because you don't think you have what it takes. They say, "failure is the stepping stone to success". But at times, it's not failure which holds us back... it's our inability to take ACTION. Failure is the bridge to success. You cannot have success if you never fail. Don't wait for the perfect moment before you start. Prepare for the worst and hope for the best, and the way to do that is doing it. Your mind is your worst enemy. Imagine how life can be beautiful if you take the chance. Start believing in yourself just like the people believing in you. P.S. In a world where, especially in Western culture, one of the most "romanticized" traits we praise and see as success is this idea of having high self esteem. I think it is important to ask ourselves: What does loving yourself even mean? How do you catch a glimpse of the inner-loved self in the midst of all the chaos? This week's ikala Podcast episode, David Gonzales will be joined by Ashley Marie Rose. Ashley is a performer, singer and a dancer. At a young age, she started using musical theater as a form of art to love herself after being bullied. By her own definition, "Art heals all our wounds." Her personal journey taught her to be self-aware and become the creator of her health and fitness. Both CrossFit and art have been instrumental in her new identity as a mental-health survivor. Disclaimer: In this podcast episode, the hosts David and Ashley discuss an important topic: mental health & addiction. The format of this episode includes a warning that people still in the grips of addiction & who have mental health issues, are welcome to skip this podcast episode. They will touch on such topics as: Learning how to be patient during the process will help you reach your goals faster. Never let a day go by when you do not tell her, love yourself. It is a very powerful statement that we all need to hear from time to time. The way bullies can make you uncomfortable in your skin is scary, wrong and disheartening. Showing love to yourself is the hardest lesson to learn. Life just seems to get in the way of living clean and sober. But when you are finally ready to do something about your addiction, you'll want to find out how. How the community aided her with the rehab therapy and helped her accept herself in her own way. Crossfit is a type of training that gets you into shape. But it does so much more than that as well. It's a lifestyle, and when you do Crossfit, you become stronger mentally, physically, and emotionally. P.S. Have you ever been through a time in your life where you had to face the fact that you needed to change, or at least improve yourself? Did you know that the path to personal growth is not about running away, but about finding power within yourself? This week's ikala Podcast episode, David Gonzales will interview Campbell Lillard. Campbell has been working in both the fitness and nonprofit industries since 2018 after serving a ten-year sentence in Texas State Prison. During his incarceration, Campbell realized that there was much about himself he did not like, however training showed him that he could change if he set an intention and applied the work. This realization led him on an obsessive quest to become the best version of himself through subjecting himself to stress and challenge. He believes fitness is the relentless pursuit of growth. They will touch on such topics as: How he uses his unique life experience in hopes to encourage you to find positivity in all aspects of life. If you want to make a positive difference in the world, you need to inspire people to work with you. When you help others, you never know where it can take you. All that matters is that it makes your heart feel good in the end. You have the tools and knowledge to push yourself over the top and climb higher. You can move mountains when you see the best in others. Community is what makes us better, because it encourages us to be more than just ourselves. Leaders are not afraid of responsibility, instead they see it as an opportunity. They don't get disheartened by the situation, they know they have the power to make changes when the situation calls for it. The fulfillment part of being a coach is not just about the dream you help to create, or even the journey to inspire. The fulfillment part is seeing the action being made on your client's side. How did he start bridging the gap in the Crossfit gym? Getting out of drug addiction is a process that takes time and effort. Centered around their core beliefs encompassing the promotion of healthy lifestyle habits, whether through a proper nutritional regimen, as well as regular physical activity, their content is a welcome breath of dynamic optimism. You'd think it's be all about working out amd eating right with these two...but it's so much more. Indeed, Dayana & David Gonzales, happily married, seasoned parents and proud bearers matching undercuts ... seriously...had such an honest and touching story to share, it was humbling to be on the other end. A jourmey marked by challenges, compromises and victories...Growth has been a constant... certaintly as individuals, but more importantly, as a couple and a unit. David has been running the Internet Marketing Party for the last 7 years and has had a slew of REALLY influential people not only attend, but speak at his event. A lot of what he had done and the way he explains it, may seem unintentional, but it has been a masterful execution on how to build relationships and connect with people to foster a REAL win-win relationship. He also run a JV/affiliate agency and is a serial entrepreneur with a wealth of knowledge and experience to share. Today, you’ll discover how David went from running a 7 figure business to running one of the best known event in digital marketing

They say, and by “they” we mean connected marketers, that the best business deals aren’t made in crowded ballrooms at conferences. The real action happens downstairs — or down the block — where stiff drinks and big ideas coalesce. No question, an integral part of David Gonzales’ business takes form at bars: the birthplace of many modern partnerships. The gifted people-connector brought that contagious ambiance to the set of MODERN ONTRAPRENEUR, where he reveals his reasons for stepping down as CEO of his company and how it took hitting entrepreneurial rock bottom to offset dangerous feedback loops plaguing his life and business.
