Didn't have to wait long to taste what's happening at AleSmith this weekend! Today Kristen and Peter have brought the Colab with Arizona Wilderness Brewing Co & Peixoto Coffee Roasters for a Flat White Inspired Blonde Ale. Using coffee cured with the cherry on gives this Latin American Coffee a subtle sweetness to go with it's light acidicness that is supported by the malt of the Blonde Ale with a little hint of lactose.

Send us a textFor the final episode of 2024 for the Brewstilled podcast, it's a recap of Week 17 for the 2024 NFL Season. In week 17 we saw action, drama and a preview of what may come in the playoffs. The Chargers secured a playoff spot after their win over the Patriots. The L.A Rams also won the NFC West and secured their own playoff spot. The Jets lost to Buffalo in a bad day for the Jets as questions about Aaron Rodgers and his future continue to generate. The Jaguars won, but the story is their possible new head coach as I have some thoughts on that topic. The Raiders won their second game in a row as they might be costing themselves a good spot in the 2025 NFL Draft. The Cowboys lost to the Eagles and now questions about Mike McCarthy continue to generate. Tampa Bay won against the Panthers and they're close to making the playoffs. The Falcons lost in a close game to the Commanders, but for a silver lining they may have found their next Quarterback in Michael Penix Jr. The Lions won a revenge game against the 49ners. Their next challenge is their looming Week 18 matchup against the Vikings. All this and more will be discussed as 2025 looms with a Blonde Ale from Pure Project Brewing as the beer pairing.
As always, we then transitioned to Mr Mikes 'Kind of Easy Trivia,' and we finally have a winner! They then transitioned to ‘Three Questions Too Many' from Park Mazda. Near the end of the final hour on today's show, it was time for 'Sobeys & Safeway Liquor Beer of The Week!' Joel Field from Citizen Brewing Company joined the show to showcase the beer of the week! This week's beer of the week is the 'Batch 1 Blonde Ale.' You can buy a four-pack for $12.99. The boys finished the show with ‘The Wrap' for William Huff
Is he a Dr or a Mad Scientist?! Dr Billheimer and the Ketch Brewing team have come up with an amalgamation of two very different styles; a Hazy IPA and a Blonde Ale. What came out of it Golden Haze is a drinking experience that will ensnare the senses and tantalize the taste buds with the body of a Blonde and the hop presence of a Hazy IPA but with none of the bitterness.
With the Pads in the post season it's a perfect time to get AleSmith in the studio since they have been so intertwined with Tony Gwynn and local SD sports. Its a perfect lead in for our Monday beer, State Ale brewed in collaboration with SDAU is a hoppy Blonde Ale that is very San Diego and VERY crushable. Perfect for concerts, tailgating or any sun-soaked activities you can do in SD.

Fresh Valencia oranges, California grown wheat and house murky IPA yeast combine to create flavors you'll want to come back to again and again.

In almost 9 years of craft beer podcasting, we don't think we've seen a story quite like this one. Greg Thompson served 22 years in both state and federal prisons in the US for drug crimes and has come out the other side with a prison-themed brewery. Coming home in 2016, Greg has been working on Prison Break since then - an uphill battle for an ex-convict trying to go legit. Greg and Cee chatted about his wild story including some crazy moments in prison, whether the prison-focused TV shows are accurate, how Greg and his business partner came up with the idea to start a brewery, his wins securing tap handles in bikini bars around Riverside and the OC in California, how he got a brewer who worked on Firestone Walker's 805 Blonde Ale to help create his flagship beer Shanked, his work in music, film and books, and their funding campaign to grow the brewery. They cracked some Prison Break Shanked Blonde Ales for this gem of a conversation - cheers! BAOS Podcast Subscribe to the podcast on YouTube | Website | Theme tune: Cee - BrewHeads

While brewers have long used cacao nibs for brewing chocolate beers, the pulp of the cacao fruit has been an unexplored resource due to its high perishability and cultural obscurity. Leila Carvajal Erker of Cocoa Supply wants to see that change. Her company is importing pasteurized cacao pulp from cacao farms in Ecuador and working with brewers to figure out how best it can be used in the brewing process. In this episode we talk with Leila about Cocoa Supply's cacao pulp products, as well as Sam Mosle, the head brewer at Wind River Brewing in Pinedale, Wyoming, who recently brewed a Blonde Ale with cacao pulp. We also discuss a similar beer brewed by Jon Naghski at Fifth Street Brewpub in Dayton, Ohio. You can check out all the links mentioned in this episode at our Linktree. In this episode Bob and I stay home in the U.S. and follow the Blonde Ale with the Cream Ale. The American cream ale is a mild, pale, light-bodied ale, made using a warm fermentation (top or bottom fermenting yeast) and cold lagering. Despite being called an ale, when being judged in competitions it is acceptable for brewers to use lager yeast. Style examples: 1. Wolf's Ridge Day Break 2. Uniontown Brewing – Jail Hill Cream Ale 3. Paradigm Shift Brewing Company – Island Juice ABV: 4.2-5.6% IBUs: 8-20 Color: 2-5 Serving Temp: 40-45F Serving Pressure: 10-12 PSI Beer Representation: Wrecking Crew Brew Works – Copper Penny Cream Ale ABV: 5.6% IBUs: 13 Beer Description: This straw colored cream ale is made with the choicest ingredients and aged for like a day. This beer is dedicated to an old watering hole in Seven Hills, OH where the beer was cheap and Genesee beer flowed like water. In this episode Bob and I come back home for another crushable summer beer style. This week we drink and talk about the American Blonde Ale. One of the most approachable styles, a golden or blonde ale is an easy-drinking beer that is visually appealing and has no particularly dominating malt or hop characteristics. Rounded and smooth, it is an American classic known for its simplicity. Sometimes referred to as “golden ale.” These beers can have honey, spices and fruit added, and may be fermented with lager or ale yeast. Style examples: 1. Wadsworth Brewing Company – Thelma Lou 2. The Phoenix Brewing Company – Persephone 3. Ignite Brewing Company – Matchstick Blonde ABV: 3.8-5.5% IBUs: 15-28 Color: 3-6 Serving Temp: 40-45F Serving Pressure: 7-13 PSI Beer Representation: Twin Oast Brewing Company – Old Ohio 4.7% ABV 20 IBUs Beer Description: Sometimes you just want an easy-drinking, light-bodied beer -- Old Ohio is just that. Brewed to be balanced, this American Blonde Ale finishes with subtle citrus tones, and is the perfect beer to reach for after a long day on the farm. One of the earliest US craft beer icons from New Belgium, the one and only Fat Tire, has gone through a major overhaul. New recipe, new logo, and new branding with sustainability at the forefront. We pull out our last batch of the old recipe and drink it side by side with the new and debate which tastes better, what does it mean to be a carbon neutral beer, and whether sustainability actually sells. And in true podcast fashion we'll go off track with trivia about the brewery, pop culture from Fat Tire's original release in 1991, and popular songs that were hijacked by movies.Featured Beer: Fat Tire (old vs. new recipe). Science has always been intimidating to me. I was never good at memorizing the periodic table or combining an array of chemical compounds to get a desired—and safe—mixture. Despite the challenges that lasted from middle into high school, I still found it all fascinating, the act of testing and discovery and using specialized equipment that can provide meaningful answers to all kinds of questions. And in this episode, we're talking about it all in relation to beer. Our guide will be Nicole Oliver, the laboratory operations manager at South Carolina's Edmund's Oast Brewing Company. She is an actual scientist and helps to oversee quality control at one of the Palmetto State's fastest-growing breweries. And it's not just her ability to help her colleagues create better beer that makes her role fascinating, but the way she's doing it in an evolving beer market where it's not just about making sure a Blonde Ale is brewed to perfection. Nicole has to collaborate with brewers to ensure that fruited Sours or pastry-inspired beers taste just as perfect and have the kind of shelf stability that other companies sometimes ignore, packaging beer in cans that may cause the package to swell, grow, and sometimes explode in a puree mess. If your favorite brewery cares about its beer, it should have a quality control program. Not every business has the financial ability to have a full-time scientist to lead the work, but it's pivotal work that improves everything about the brewing process. And as you'll hear from Nicole, it can be nerdy and fun and exhilarating and meaningful. For her, her colleagues, and drinkers.
