There's no question that AI is a weapon for the fraudster, says Chris Drake of iconectiv. AI enables fakes that are more realistic, personal, and convincing. State players and private parties engage in fraudulent practices to influence political outcomes. But politically based cams can also be a way to defraud people out of money. A simple appeal to donate or register to vote might be a bait trap. We also learn how the wider problem with phone call scams can create brand damage and impair an organization's communication ability. Visit www.iconectiv.com

What the FCC is doing to protect your phone number from scammers who want to hijack it, iconectiv Podcast - what the FCC is doing to address this problem, including requirements all carriers will need to abide by in an effort to keep consumers safe In this two part podcast series, we explore with iconectiv's Chris Drake how fraudsters are exploiting phone number hijacking (account takeover), and how businesses, the FCC and service providers are responding. Account Hijacking Fraud (port-out), Podcast 1 The phone number is now the gateway to someone's entire digital identity, tying to just about every facet of their life. In this podcast, Chris Drake, Senior Vice President at iconectiv, tells us how fraudsters are exploiting this, and what businesses and regulators are doing to address the problem. “The phone number is the key personal identifier for everyone and the fraudsters know it,” says Drake. “If a scammer gets a hold of someone's number, they can leverage it to gain access to their bank accounts and, potentially, steal their identity.” Account Hijacking Fraud (port-out), Podcast 2 (Next week we will share the second podcast in this series) The phone number is now the most crucial part of someone's digital identity and hijacking that number gives scammers the means to take over someone's bank account or other sensitive accounts. Chris Drake / iconectiv This is referred to as sim swap or port-out fraud. In this video, Chris Drake, Senior Vice President at iconectiv, discusses what the FCC is doing to address this problem, including requirements all carriers will need to abide by in an effort to keep consumers safe. “A lot of losses have been reported from these scams, and the FCC has recognized this,” says Drake, “These FCC rules, as they take effect, will further steps some mobile operators have already taken to mitigate this problem while raising the bar with a standard of care for all mobile operators to implement.” iconectiv provides services to secure digital identity, numerous data exchanges, registries, and other information as a service. These address numbering intelligence, Know Your Business (KYB), and fraud prevention, as well as network and operations management for the global communications industry. It provides numbering services in more than a dozen countries, including serving as the Local Number Portability Administrator (LNPA) for the United States. As a trusted partner of the communications ecosystem, iconectiv is dedicated to keeping people connected, businesses running and commerce flowing. This includes making sure incoming and outgoing phone calls and messages are verified and identified, and that communications service providers can trust the information in their systems and networks. Aptly named consent farms are aiding fraudsters by tricking consumers into unknowingly consenting to receive robocalls. This ruse often comes in the form of calls or text messages offering fake sales, prizes or job offers. In this podcast, Chris Drake, Senior Vice President at iconectiv, tells us how his company is helping regulators address the problem and enable ways for consumers to receive trusted calls and texts. “The big issue here is that consent farms are luring people to their websites with fake promises,” says Drake. “They send text messages saying you've won a sweepstakes, or you look like the ideal candidate for this job, but these are likely all scams. Even if the lure is not a scam, the consumer has now made it onto many more consent lists than they intended.” iconecitv is a trusted partner of the communications ecosystem, dedicated to keeping people connected, businesses running and commerce flowing. This includes making sure incoming and outgoing phone calls and messages are verified and identified, and that communications service providers can trust the information in their systems and network, and ultimately, operate as cost effectively and efficiently as possible. www.iconectiv.com

Anna talks to two of the women who changed the world with their anti-nuclear protests at the Greenham Common Peace Camp in the 1980s. Chris Drake and Rebecca Johnson both camped at Greenham Common for years at a time, and now their stories are being told in Briar March's new documentary, Mothers of the Revolution. First, Anna discusses this release with two top critics, Corrina Antrobus and Angela Errigo. They discuss how much they knew of Greenham before watching the film, the galvanising spirit of the documentary, and how movements started at our kitchen tables may be the answer to tackling our own issues of the day. This episode considers the passion behind female protest, how it is depicted in the media, and why it is often left undocumented or celebrated, despite its epic history. Anna talks about this with both the critics and Chris Drake, who has some heartfelt words of encouragement for listeners. Chris and Rebecca also recall some spine-tingling memories of the Greenham camp from moments of terror to triumph, horror and humour. Mothers of the Revolution is available now on digital download.
