The Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU) has welcomed a new National Labour Migration Policy and the Employee Services Amendment Bill. The policy aims to address the issue of undocumented migrant labour in the economy. Elvis Presslin spoke to Matthew Parks, COSATU Parliamentary Coordinator and Spokesperson
John Maytham speaks with Ajay Lalu, Managing Director of Black Lite Consulting, about a heated debate around transformation policy in South Africa. At the centre of the discussion is Communications Minister Solly Malatsi’s proposal to allow Equity Equivalent Investment Programmes (EEIPs) as a path to BEE compliance for electronic communications licence applicants. Instead of selling 30% equity to historically disadvantaged groups, multinationals could invest in local development initiatives. The country's two largest labour federations, COSATU and SAFTU have been at each other's throat and trading barbs in the days leading up to Workers Day as they sharply differ over proposed labour law amendments. The proposed amendments include changes to the Labour Relations Act, the Basic Conditions of Employment Act, and the Minimum Wage Act. COSATU says it remains confident that the final legislation will continue to protect workers' rights and that such protections will be further extended while SAFTU on the other hand has criticised the amendments claiming that they will put workers under siege and erode workers' hard-won rights guaranteed by the Constitution. COSATU has accused SAFTU of peddling of fake news and falsehoods in pursuit of headlines while SAFTU is accusing COSATU of being party to what they call "secret talks at Nedlac" that will betray workers rights. To find out why they have such divergent views on the proposed labour law amendments Bongiwe Zwane spoke to Mathew Parks - COSATU Parliamentary Co-ordinator and Newton Masuku - SAFTU National Spokesperson
Graeme Raubenheimer is in conversation with Tony Ehrenreich South African trade-unionist and regional secretary of the Western Cape region of COSATU about their Workers' Day rally in Cape Town and the key labour issues facing South African workers in 2025.
The Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU) has welcomed the Western Cape High Court's order setting aside the proposed VAT hike of 0.5%. The labour federation says this will provide relief to millions of workers who have been struggling to cope with the rising costs of living. COSATU says working class families spend most of their income on transport and electricity whose increases far exceed CPI. To further discuss this Elvis Presslin spoke to COSATU Parliamentary Coordinator, Matthew Parks
Lester Kiewit speaks to Matthew Parks, Parliamentary Coordinator for COSATU, to discuss the decision by National Treasury to maintain VAT at 15%, and not increase it by half a percentage point.
The Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU) has welcomed the Constitutional Court's decision that now permits municipal workers to hold public office. This ruling comes after the South African Municipal Workers' Union (SAMWU) contested provisions in the Municipal Systems Act that previously prohibited municipal employees from taking up such positions. To discuss this development in greater detail, Elvis Presslin spoke to Matthew Parks, COSATU's Parliamentary Coordinator
Cosatu in Limpopo, along with workers from Sekhukhune will today hold a picket at the Nebo Magistrate's Court to show solidarity with a 17-year-old girl who was raped near Jane Furse. To discuss this further Elvis Presslin spoke to Hangwani Mashao, the Provincial Secretary of Cosatu in Limpopo

COSATU in Limpopo will stage a picket today outside the Mankweng Magistrate's Court, where a 58-year-old teacher is set to appear on rape charges. He was arrested for allegedly assaulting a 13-year-old student multiple times between November 2024 and March 2025 in the Capricorn South Education District. The suspect initially fled after pretending to report himself to the police, triggering a manhunt. For more on this Elvis Presslin spoke to Cosatu Limpopo Provincial Secretary Hangwani Mashao
Lester Kiewit speaks to COSATU parliamentary coordinator Matthew Parks, about the recent visit to Washington DC by a group of South African business and labour leaders, in an unofficial capacity, to assess US sentiment towards South Africa amid escalating tensions.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Clarence Ford is in conversation with Matthew Parks, Parliamentary Coordinator for COSATU. He is unpacking their thoughts around the president's assenting to the General Intelligence Laws Amendment Bill and what this means for South Africans. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Clement Manyathela hosts DA spokesperson for finance Dr Mark Burkes, Mathew Parks, who is the Cosatu Parliamentary Coordinator and Mdumiseni Ntuli, who is the ANC Chief Whip as they discuss the proposal by minister of finance to either increase VAT or cut the SRD grants ahead of the budget speech.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

COSATU Urges Government to Deliver on Nation's Expectations in 2025/26 Budget by Radio Islam
Cosatu beskryf 2024 as 'n jaar van gemengde wedervaringe met hoogte- sowel as laagtepunte.
