This episode we dive into our third installment of our You Should See This Festival with 2018's Best Picture winner Alfonso Cuarón's childhood tale of Roma.
This week on Strong Female Lead, Tessa and Tricia take on the cinematic masterpiece that is Roma, starring SFL AF Oscar Nominee Yalitza Aparicio, Marina de Tavira and directed by Oscar Winner Alfonso Cuarón. The ladies throw shade at the concept of Daddy Day Care, discuss what it actually means to be ghosted and conspire on how to make Tessa’s dream of a 5150 vacation a reality. Tessa shares that protestors make her feel seen and Tricia discusses her new barometer for hotness in the opposite sex. Everyone agrees that performing naked martial arts is gross and that Cleo deserves a fucking day off. If you'd like to choose a movie for the podcast, leave us a review on Apple Podcast and include your pick there!!
Speculating about the Oscars is clearly more fun *than* the Oscars. But the 2019 promises to be something of a shambles. From missing presenters, to nominee controversy, there's a lot to shake one's head at. But certain nominations - and snubs - have really got Emmet and Stevie's goat up. So that's what this episode is mostly about (also, Avengers Endgame and sad Steve Rogers, but that's more an aperatif).
The Filmlosophers, Eddie Villanueva, Chad Riley and Spencer Williams, take time to appreciate their surroundings with this week's review of Alfonso Cuarón's ROMA (2018). Comprised almost entirely of scenes taken from Cuarón's memory and shot on location in Mexico City, the film stars Yalitza Aparicio, Marina de Tavira, Diego Cortina Autrey and several others. Its gorgeous, panoramic cinematography provides a meditative look at the places, people and ideas that shaped a generation. ROMA has been described as Cuarón's most essential and personal work to date, and fellow director Guillermo del Toro has already listed it as one of his top five favorite films of all time. The Netflix-distributed film is also generating quite a lot of buzz and nominations during the current award season.
Academy Award-winning director Alfonso Cuarón talks to Terry about his new Golden Globe-winning film Roma. The film offers a very personal take on Alfonso’s upbringing in Mexico City, and is centered on a young indigenous woman named Cleo who works as a maid for Alfonso’s middle-class family. The director, writer, producer and editor talks about the inception of the film, and why he absolutely had to tell the story, following his success with blockbusters like Gravity and Children of Men. How personal was this journey? Alfonso directed, wrote the screenplay, was the cinematographer, and the co-editor. It’s meant as an apology to Cleo and every one of the family household staff.
The one where Green Blooded Bastard watches Gravity. Sandra Fucking Bullock! That is all.
Nathan and Scotty discuss George Clooney's Hawaiian shirt, how to maintain action in limited scope and why astronauts are so cool. Neil deGrasse Tyson has some serious competition. @fourseasonspod & Facebook.com/fourseasonsofilm
