"FebruaRYAN" concludes with a look at 2014's Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit. Twelve years after The Sum of All Fears failed to reignite the Jack Ryan franchise, Paramount tried once again to tell a new Ryan origin story, with a new "hot young star of the moment" leading man in the role. But this particular Ryan movie arrived in a post-MCU world, when the importance of "IP" had become even more evident, and the concept of - say it with us - "cinematic universes" had become all the rage. How did that affect the approach to Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit? And why did the movie ultimately suffer essentially the same fate as its predecessor? We discuss all this, and more, as we wrap up our look at failed reboots of Tom Clancy's beloved CIA analyst. Our Twitter Our Facebook Our Instagram Our YouTube Trev's Letterboxd Chris' Letterboxd
This week, we continue to collect members of the Ocean's gang like Infinity Stones, as we find Danny playing a convincing soldier and compelling leading man in a 90s geo-political thriller that feels like a total forgotbuster, despite starring two massive movie stars and launching DreamWorks as a studio. It's 1997's The Peacemaker, directed by Mimi Leder, and starring George Clooney, Nicole Kidman, Marcel Iureș, Aleksandr Baluev, Armin Mueller-Stahl, Holt McCallany, Goran Višnjić, and Michael Boatman. One of the Cloondog's early jumps from ER star to silverscreen leading man, this movie is also deeply tied to ER as a production. Clooney unquestionably has the juice however, and the movie's 90s thriller sensibilities -- while not as refined as some of its contemporaries -- still feels like something of a lost art, a type of movie we just don't get enough of these days. If you'd like to watch the movie before listening to our discussion, it is not available to stream in Canada but can be rented on YouTube and Cineplex. Other works discussed on this episode include The X-Files, Groundhog Day, Source Code, The X-Files: Fight The Future, The Blues Brothers, Trading Places, You've Got Mail, The Taking of Pelham One Two Three, The Incredible Hulk, The Avengers: Age of Ultron, Thelma, Mission: Impossible - Fallout, The Beekeeper, The Art of War, The Foreigner, Superman Returns, Strangers on a Train, Jerry Springer: Fights, Camera, Action, The House, Weird: The Al Yankovic Story, The Bourne Identity, Clear and Present Danger, Mission: Impossible, Batman & Robin, The Green Hornet, Deep Impact, Armageddon, Pay It Forward, On The Basis Of Sex, The Leftovers, The Morning Show, Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit, Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol, Three Kings, The Men Who Stare At Goats, 24, Burn After Reading, Michael Clayton, Out of Sight, Twisters and Legally Blonde. Next week, we're switching things up and going back to Hayley's new VHS stack to talk one of the all-time great westerns: 1992's Unforgiven, Clint Eastwood's deconstruction of the genre that made him famous and a worthy winner of Best Picture Oscar gold. Unforgiven is streaming on Crave in Canada and Max in the US. Until then, we'll see you at the movies!!

This week it gets lonely at night, as we live in a twilight world and there are no friends at dusk. We welcome Matt Pollock (Matty's Movie Burner) back to the program on the final Friday of the month to induct a new entry into the podcast canon: 2020's Tenet, written and directed by Christopher Nolan, and starring John David Washington, Robert Pattinson, Elizabeth Debicki, Kenneth Branagh, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Himesh Patel, Clémence Poésy, Michael Caine, Martin Donovan, Dimple Kapadia, and former NHL super-pest Sean Avery. One of the few major theatrical releases of the COVID era, it was only just re-released to theaters to capitalize on Oppenheimer's Oscar momentum. But it's a polarizing movie to be sure. While the three of us love it a great deal, it is not a popular sentiment. We do our best to analyze why people put this undeniable gorgeous and visually inventive movie in the crosshairs, and if a critical re-appraisal is due. Plus it's not all Tenet talk, as Matty and J Mo combines for Theatrical Field Reports on Late Night with the Devil, Snack Shack and Love Lies Bleeding. Be forewarned: this is our longest episode ever, and you may want to watch the film before listening along. Unfortunately, at the time of publication, Tenet is currently unavailable for streaming in Canada, though, you know, you could check it out of the library if you're keen. Other works referenced in this episode include Wonka, Paddington, Paddington 2, The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, Licorice Pizza, Sex Drive, American Pie, Thirteen, Trainspotting, Kids, Heat, Superbad, Pineapple Express, The To-Do List, The Way Way Back, The Dark Knight, Early Edition, Prisoners, Dune: Part 1, S1m0ne, Terminator 2: Judgment Day, Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning: Part 1, The Holdovers, The Iron Claw, Dune: Part 2, The Fabelmans, Dazed and Confused, California Split, A History of Violence, Gone Baby Gone, Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, The Garbage Pail Kids Movie, Footloose, X-Men '97, Spider-Man: The Animated Series, Madame Web, Dune (1984), Arrival, Hot Rod, The Departed, The Invisible Man, In Bruges, Widows, Inception, 12 Monkeys, The Terminator, Looper, Dunkirk, Munich, Belfast, Love Actually..., A Haunting in Venice, Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit, Interstellar, Good Time, High Life, The Lost City of Z, The Boy and the Heron, the Twilight saga, May-December, Station Eleven, Weeds, Insomnia, The Art of Racing in the Rain, Malcolm X, The Dark Knight Rises, Indiana Jones & The Last Crusade, E.T., Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Jurassic Park, and Good Will Hunting among others. We'll be back next week to kick off April as we check back in with our old pal Tom Cruise and follow him over to Japan for 2003's The Last Samurai, a movie which is presently unavailable to stream in Canada but can be rented on Amazon and YouTube. Until then, we'll see you at the movies!!

It is the fifth film in the Jack Ryan series and the second reboot thereof. Unlike its predecessors, it is not an adaptation of a particular Clancy novel, but rather an original story. Chris Pine stars in the title role, becoming the fourth actor to play Ryan, following Alec Baldwin, Harrison Ford, and Ben Affleck. The film is directed by Kenneth Branagh, who also stars alongside Kevin Costner, and Keira Knightley.Find the Say Whats Reel CrewSay Whats Reel Socials - https://linktr.ee/rmhproductionsDOM CRUZE Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/itzdomw/Q Twitter: https://twitter.com/King_QuisemoeInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/king_quisemoe/iLL - https://twitter.com/illest_thrillerWe hope you enjoyed the video and the content we put out here at Say Whats Reel Thank you for watching!

Now You Know - Jack Ryan Season 4: Lesser-known Facts about the Hit Prime Video Series - Episode 106The Office star John Krasinski is set to return as the titular super spy Jack Ryan in the fourth season of Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan. The new season will premiere on Amazon Prime Video on June 30th, and it will focus on Jack as he steps into the role of Acting Deputy Director of the CIA trying to root out the corruption within the organisation. So for today's Now You Know, we take a look at lesser-known facts about the series that even ardent fans of the show may not know. Lead star John Krasinski revealed that the CIA Headquarters in Langley granted the TV show's production unit access to locations inside the complex that were never used for filming previous films and TV shows. Talk about keeping it real! The series is based on Tom Clancy's series of novels, but unlike the previous adaptations, including film and TV shows, the Prime Video series is not based on any of Clancy's novels. Instead, the series has borrowed the characters and setting from the franchise and created original stories set around contemporary geopolitics. Such creative liberties can sometimes enhance the source material and even result in compelling adaptations. For the first season, the scenes involving the antagonist Sulamein and his residence were filmed at a 13th-century kasbah, or a fortified citadel, on the outskirts of the Moroccan city Marrakesh.Australian actress Abbie Cornish plays the role of Jack's love interest, Cathy Mueller, in season one. In the show, she is depicted as an epidemiologist, and her profession is pivotal to the first season's plot. However, in the books, she is an eye surgeon. Robert Pine essays the role of Gerald Halpert in the sitcom The Office. His character is the father of Jim Halpert, who is played by Jack Ryan lead star John Krasinski. In real life, however, Pine is the father of actor Chris Pine, who played the role of Jack Ryan in the 2014 film Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit. Now that's just a beautiful coincidence. In the film Clear and Present Danger, starring Harrison Ford as Jack Ryan, Jack is ambushed in the streets of Colombia, similar to the ambush scene in Venezuela in the second season of the TV series. Coincidentally, scenes set in Venezuela were filmed in the Colombian city of Bogota.German actress Nina Hoss essays the role of the fictional President of the Czech Republic, Alena Kovac. She is depicted on the show as the centre of power in the country, similar to the role of an American President. However, in real life, the Prime Minister in the Czech Republic is considered the ultimate leader of the government, similar to India and other European nations, and is more powerful than the President. Well that's the Now You Know for today's episode , until the next it's your host Nikhil signing out.Aaj kya dekhoge OTTplay se poochoWritten by Ryan Gomez

Alright, after taking a brief vacation to the land of Lazenby, it's time to return to Jack Ryan. This one is a modern reboot from 2014 that is somehow equal parts James Bond, Jason Bourne, and Alex Rider Stormbreaker. A shady Russian capitalist plans to cause 9/11 2. Cinematographer Haris Zambarloukos enjoys using filmmaking to study the human condition. As a Greek who grew up in Cyprus, Haris was immersed in the history of Greek tragedy from a young age. He went to art school and studied painting, but found he was more interested in the visual storytelling that filmmaking can do. Haris' background in portraiture painting carries over into his cinematography today- he favors using closeups in his work, because he finds that the human face is the landscape of our emotions. Haris' current film, Belfast, is his eighth collaboration with director Kenneth Branagh. It's a deeply personal story about Branagh's childhood experience growing up in Northern Ireland during the civil war between the Catholics and Protestants known as The Troubles. Haris and Branagh chose to shoot the movie almost entirely in black-and-white. The two both love the format, and Haris felt using black and white provided less distraction from the character's emotions than using color would. They also decided to use extremely limited additional lighting in the movie, relying heavily on natural light in most scenes. Every scene was thought out with depth of field and depth of action, and not just shot for coverage. For the 2013 film Locke starring Tom Hardy, Haris' friend, cinematographer Chris Menges, had tested the new Alexa Mini and found that it was possible to shoot with just available light in small spaces. This gave director/writer Steven Knight the idea to write a script that takes place entirely in a car, with only one character, and he asked Haris to be his director of photography. Haris had just wrapped Jack Ryan:Shadow Recruit and was about to shoot Cinderella, so Locke seemed like an interesting challenge to take on. Knight had planned for only a 9 day shoot, with the entire script shot beginning to end each night for three nights. The additional actors, never seen on camera, all phoned in their vocal performances live during the shoot. Capturing the intimate and emotional performances in Locke gave Haris a deep satisfaction about his decision to become a filmmaker. Bio JACK Cambria I am a retired member of the New York City Police Department who has contributed 33 ½ years of exemplary service. My career took me from precinct uniform and plainclothes patrol in Brooklyn’s 72nd Precinct in Sunset Park, as a police officer, sergeant and lieutenant. I also served in the Emergency Service Unit (ESU) for 16 years, whose primary focus is to provide Rescue, Tactical, and Counter-Terrorism services to the City of New York. I had the good fortune to be assigned to ESU in the same three ranks. I have responded to and served on many high profile assignments such as both World Trade Center disasters, plane crashes, and a variety of hostage and barricade situations, particularly violent and suicidal individuals. I also served as a Rescue Team Manager on the FEMA-Urban Search and Rescue NY Task Force-1 during my time in ESU where I was deployed to Puerto Rico during Hurricane Maryland in 1995 and to the Atlanta Georgia Olympic Bombing in 1996. In 2001, I was selected to command the NYPD’s elite Hostage Negotiation Team. My duties consisted of coordinating the efforts of over 100 negotiators, who responded throughout New York City to all hostage and related assignments. I was responsible for the training and certification of all new negotiators and bi-annual refresher training of all current members of the team. I have conducted in-service training for many International, Federal, State and Local Law Enforcement agencies. In 2006, I, along with two personally selected members of my team, Detective Lydia Martinez and Detective James Shanahan, was dispatched to the U.S. Military Base at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba to conduct hostage negotiation training for members of the United States Joint Task Force. We were also asked by the Commandant of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point to conduct hostage negotiation training for the senior class of cadets, and we continued doing so for the past eight years prior to my retirement. During my time with the hostage team, I responded to well-over 5000 crisis assignments. Additionally, I have also served as a technical consultant in the entertainment industry, where I have advised on the major motion pictures, ‘The Taking of Pelham 1-2-3,’ ‘Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit,’ and ‘The Amazing Spiderman II;’ and, for the television series, ‘Life on Mars,’ ‘Blue Bloods,’ ‘Unforgettable,’ ‘Elementary,’ ‘The Mysteries of Laura,’ and 'The Breaks.' I have authored several scholarly articles on negotiations and have achieved a Master’s Degree in Criminal Justice from the John Jay College of Criminal Justice in New York City. I have served as an adjunct professor at John Jay College of Criminal Justice and at Empire State College, both in New York City. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/otcpod1/support

Chris Pine (Star Trek) may be the fourth actor to play Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit, but he’s the first incarnation of the Tom Clancy character to challenge Jason Bourne’s spy movie supremacy in the 21st Century. Since security pertains to everyone, in this episode of the IOSS we challenged ourselves to tie security back to Kevin Bacon. You might have to give us a few passes, but the connection is still strong. Keira Knightley: Earlier this year, a man applied for credit account at Best Buy using Keira Knightley’s driver’s license information. If they didn’t catch him, it would have affected her FICO score. And speaking of FICO, they just created an Enterprise Security Score, which rates how secure an organization is. We debated whether or not a score will improve security. Chris Pine: Knightley was in Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit with Pine. He worked undercover as a compliance officer at an investment firm. If Pine was a compliance officer for a security firm that profited by tanking a medical device stock, I’m guessing he’d have to raise a red flag. Harrison Ford – Ford also played the character, Jack Ryan in Clear and Present Danger, so Pine and Ford are practially the same person. But it was when he played a doctor in The Fugitive that caught our attention. While Ford played a doctor who was framed for murder, recently a woman’s stolen identity almost landed her in jail. And we discussed the dangers of medical identity theft. The Obamas – The Obamas invited Harrison Ford to the White House. It impressed us that the White House now has a CISO. Tom Hanks – Hanks narrated Obama’s “ Road We Traveled” Kevin Bacon – And lastly, Hanks and Bacon appeared in Apollo 13. Listen in and join the fun! The post Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon (Security Edition) – IOSS 24 appeared first on Varonis Blog.

“We go back to the start as we look at Jack Ryan Shadow Recruit on Blu-Ray.”
Director Kenneth Branagh talks about why Shakespeare and action movies have more in common than you think.
TJ may be a day late getting this episode out, but he's going to give you the news of the week anyway. Starting off the week we learned that ‘Batman vs. Superman' has been pushed from 2015 to May 6, 2016. Given how crowded 2015 is, this doesn't really seem like that bad of a thing. Jamie Alexander will appear on ‘Agents of SHIELD" in her role at Sif which seems exciting. The upcoming James Bond films will build on what happened in ‘Skyfall' and this also seems like a good thing since ‘Skyfall' is obviously the best of the three newer ‘Bond' films. JJ Abrams says the ‘Star Wars VII' script is done and they will be shooting the film on actual film stock. Federal agents removed a man from the theater and treated him like a criminal because he was wearing Google Glass. This is an extreme miscarriage of justice and an overstepping of bounds. Not to mention that this situation highlights again just how out of control our copyright system is. The focus of this weeks' reviews and ‘The MovieByte Podcast' was ‘Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit' — a passable film, but kind of disappointing. And it turns out that younger audience are paying no attention to this film. In the category of "sigh", ‘Atlas Shrugged 3' is moving forward, but just as with part 2, with an all new cast. How inspiring… And of course, find out what to see at the box office this weekend.
Kenneth Branagh joins Simon and Mark live in the studio to talk about his latest film Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit. Plus the Box Office Top 10 and Mark's reviews of the week's new releases including August: Osage County, Inside Llewyn Davis and Grudge Match.
We discuss the new release, Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit as well as old release, The Wolf of Wall Street and really old release, I Love You, Man. We fill in the rest with our usual nonsense...

Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit is worth exactly what you pay for it. And possibly slightly less. Such is the verdict of The Film Board this month as we take on the Kenneth Branagh-helmed thriller. It's the fifth in the Ryan series, but the first not based on one of Tom Clancy's novels — a sore point for many of us on The Board. Writers Adam Cozad and David Koepp conjure up some interesting moments in a script that is otherwise awash in trite dialog. But the biggest questions remain: Can Chris Pine pull off the fish-out-of-water clumsiness of Ryan? Can Kevin Costner fill the giant shoes of James Earl Jones in the critical mentor role? Can Keira Knightley handle the American accent? (Spoiler: Not really.) Join Board regulars Tommy Metz III, Steve Sarmento, Chadd Stoops, Andy Nelson, and Pete Wright as they digest this serving of spy soup, with a healthy helping of Oscars 2014 predictions! Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit is loosely based on the Tom Clancy canon...
Due to the holiday break, we haven’t recorded a new podcast in a month, but the movies haven’t exactly stopped provoking conversation in our absence. In fact, there’s so much to talk about that we decided to forego our usual game and 30 Seconds To Sell segments just to get to a larger fraction of the topics we had in mind. We start the new year with an argument between podcast hosts Scott Tobias and Tasha Robinson, who tend to disagree a lot, but rarely as fervently as they do on Martin Scorsese’s The Wolf Of Wall Street. From there, an advertisement promoting Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit as “From The Director Of Thor” has us wondering about directors like Kenneth Branagh, whose career seemed to promise one thing, but delivered something else entirely. And finally, we share what movies, new and old, we watched over the holiday break and offer some good recommendations.
In this week's Movie Date podcast, Rafer and Kristen recount their encounters with wildlife in the city and ponder the ways that dance-offs are better than shoot-outs. It's all in honor of the animated feature, "The Nut Job," the buddy cop comedy, "Ride Along," and the spy thriller, "Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit." Rafer and Kristen also weigh in on the Oscar nominations, which were announced this Thursday. And there's a big trivia-related mea culpa as well! Join TJ to wrap up the week with a look back at the "Jacktastic" box office. TJ also wrote an ‘Escape Plan' review because he enjoyed the film, so there. Then there's the ‘Planes: Fire and Rescue' Trailer — yes, this is a thing, apparently. ‘Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit' has been pushed to a January release date. This is probably not a good thing. We got the first ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past' trailer and boy does it look epic. Plus, you know, it's just good to have Bryan Singer back at the helm of an ‘X-men' film. ‘Back to the Future' got a pretty fun improv act that you should check out. ‘Olympus Has Fallen' is getting a sequel. Are you ready for this? It's called ‘London Has Fallen'. Look, we're not making this up. If you see ‘Thor: The Dark World' in 3D, you'll get to see 5 minutes of ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier'. Seems like a sneaky way to sell 3D tickets to me. ‘Star Wars VII' "Must" open in 2015 — because of reasons. And make sure you see ‘Ender's Game' this weekend!
