Prof. Prithi Kanakamedala will present on their project examining the life of George DeGrasse and his family, who lived on land in New York City donated by Aaron Burr in the early nineteenth century. DeGrasse, listed as being born in Calcutta, India, and often claiming to be Burrs former servant, becomes the focus of a reevaluation in light of new research suggesting Burr may have had a secret Black and Indian family in the Caribbean. This work explores the possibility that the DeGrasse family represents an early Indo-Caribbean presence in New York, and will culminate in a digital site and book chapter as part of a broader book project.

Did you know you can sell products directly through the social media feed? No purchase journeys, no redirects, a simple click-to-buy option is all you need. Today's episode comes from our sister podcast, the Digital Marketer. Host Mark de Grasse sits down with Lauren Petrullo, one of the newest faculty members of the DigitalMarketer Academy to talk about the latest component of their eCommerce certification—social selling. Social selling allows you to buy in-app (on Facebook, Instagram, etc.) and never even venture to someone's website. You're meeting people right where they are, already browsing and shopping. The key is to make it as seamless as possible for customers to checkout directly through social media platforms. Lauren has got her finger on the pulse of the future of eCommerce and says one thing we can do is pay close attention to where the big tech brands are investing. Listen in to learn how you can get in on what Lauren calls “a much more mature social media commerce experience.” Discover why Ralph thinks eCommerce product categorization is an underutilized insight for remarketing. IN THIS EPISODE, YOU'LL LEARN: What is social commerce? Social commerce versus eCommerce The future of selling is social eCommerce product categorization and why it's so important Why social selling shouldn't replace your website How Meta is incentivizing these social stores on different platforms Why the U.S. is massively behind on social media trends What kind of data/analytics you'll have access to in your Meta shop Connect with Laurenhttps://mongoosemedia.us/ (Mongoose Media) https://www.linkedin.com/in/laurenpetrullo/ (Connect with Lauren on LinkedIn) LINKS AND RESOURCES MENTIONED IN THIS EPISODE:https://sol8.com/ (Solutions 8 ) https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSckM3KvhZMagQN6SbG1GMzJt9mzcemoGMIeL1XztQGWNTleXQ/viewform (Perpetual Traffic Survey) https://perpetualtraffic.com/ (Perpetual Traffic Website) Follow https://twitter.com/perpetualtraf (Perpetual Traffic on Twitter) Connect with https://twitter.com/ralphhb (Ralph) and https://twitter.com/kasimaslam (Kasim) on Twitter OUR PARTNERS: https://bkacontent.com/perpetual (Get a Free Month of Blogs from BKA Content) https://conversionfanatics.com/freebook (Get a Free book on how to optimize your website Conversion Fanatics) https://scalable.co/7-levels-assessment/?utm_source=perpetual-traffic&utm_medium=podcast&utm_campaign=lead-gen (7 Levels of Scale workbook) https://scalable.co/books/zero-down/?utm_source=perpetual+traffic&utm_medium=podcast&utm_campaign=lead+gen (Get Roland's book, Zero Down, FREE) Find out your Leadership Trust Score at https://readytolead.com (Ready to Lead). Episode 18: Food Evolution Documentary and Chewing the Fat on GMOs This week Ben, Celestia, and Pascual open with a discussion on what people consider uncanny, bizarre, or strange. What takes something from implausible to downright mysterious? An understanding of statistics is one angle to consider, but ignorance of particular fields is also at work: from the World Trade Center to the pyramids to cancer remissions, people who lack the relevant technical knowledge are the ones gobsmacked by particular events or facts. Headline writers emphasize this “bizarre” aspect without providing context, leading many to jump right to conspiracy theories or supernatural explanations. Then Celestia, back from the 2017 meeting of the Institute of Food Technologists, discusses the new GMO documentary, Food Evolution. The film was funded by IFT but director Scott Hamilton Kennedy was given complete control over topic, content, and approach, and he chose to tackle the human side of the GMO/organic controversy. Kennedy did a beautiful job bringing the human element to the forefront and takes viewers along a persuasive narrative of finding common ground and changing minds. Celestia, Pascual, and Ben touch on hot button topics like GMO labeling, evil corporations like Monsanto, and patenting living organisms. We also discuss the negative feedback the movie has so far received, and the strength (or rather lack of strength) in the arguments that the anti-GMO crowd has put forth. Namely, a Huffington Post columnist supported by organic industries decries the appearance of a logo in the film's background, and Mike Adams calls Neil deGrasse Tyson a race traitor. Lastly, we let you know how to check for a screening of Food Evolution in your area, and give shoutouts to some online resources for anyone wanting to learn more about GMO tech.
Hi listeners! In this weeks episode of the Warships Podcast we discuss an assortment of new premium ships coming to the game in the near future. Breaking down ships that we are currently testing and reviewing, as well as a bit of speculation on three ships that will hopefully make there appearance soon in game. Getting into our show discussion we start off with USS Kidd, a Fletcher class Destroyer that has been slotted at Tier 8 instead of 9. The reasoning of this is that it has one less torpedo rack, trading torpedoes for improved anti aircraft capabilities. We discuss at length our current experiences with the ship and give our thoughts on how it could be improved as well as its current standing in the random meta and possibilities for competitive play. The next ship we are testing is the French Cruiser DeGrasse. A solid cruiser that each cast member believes is a solid premium that we feel, is ready to ship to the public right now. We talk about its strengths and weaknesses and talk about French Cruiser play in general. Moving on from the current premium ships that we are testing, the cast gets into the big and highly anticipated ships, and by big ships, we really mean ENTERPRISE! We talk about the Big E and carrier game play, matchmaking, and how even non CV players will be getting this ship just based on the fact that its the Enterprise. The cast also talks about Admiral Markarov which is the Nurnberg but as it was when sold to the Russians and HMS Gallant is a Royal Navy Destroyer. Which is a ship featured in an upcoming movie about the massive evacuation at Dunkirk. We discuss these ships and move onto our final topic for the show. The Sink the Bismarck campaign discussion rounds out the podcast with the sale of HMS Hood which is now available via a staggered bundle system. Much like how Graf Spee was handled, players who were familiar with that will understand this system and campaign. We talk about the merits of the sale and remind players that you have 19 days to complete this run. The 100 dollar bundle is brought up and debated as we go over the pluses and minuses for making such a purchase, and break down what the bundle contains.
