Longtime comic book writer and editor Mike Carlin joined the show to talk about his illustrious career. In 1986, he became group editor of the Superman comics. He oversaw the “Death of Superman” storyline and subsequent “Funeral For a Friend” and “Reign of the Supermen” stories as well. He went on to become DC Entertainment's Creative Director of Animation beginning in 2011. This episode focuses on his breaking into the comics industry and his run on the Superman titles. In this episode, Carlin explains the process of deciding how to kill the Man of Steel in the books, and the subsequent firestorm that was created in a pre-social media age. He also talked about how the comics industry has evolved as streaming services and films are inundated with superhero content.

We also go back to 1964 to cover World's Finest that seems Superman and Batman battle Composite Superman in an extra silly issue that includes diamond thrones, giant statues and Batman wrapped in Superman's cape. Finally, we go back to the 1990s with Superman: The Animated Series that sees Clark disguising himself as Batman in Bruce's absence and partnering with Robin. We also ponder the possibilities of what Superman and Batman crossovers we could see on the big screen. I am not a big fan of boy scout type characters, so Superman is not one of my favorites. That may change now that Grant Morrison is taking him in a different direction. I can't wait to see how Superman operates in the gray areas of morality. Neal Adams (born June 12, 1941) is an American comic book and commercial artist known for helping to create some of the definitive modern imagery of the DC Comics characters Superman, Batman, and Green Arrow; as the co-founder of the graphic design studio Continuity Associates; and as a creators-rights advocate who helped secure a pension and recognition for Superman creators Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster. Adams was inducted into the Eisner Award’s Will Eisner Comic Book Hall of Fame in 1998, and the Harvey Awards’ Jack Kirby Hall of Fame in 1999. John Lindley Byrne (born July 6, 1950) is a British-born Canadian-American author and artist of comic books. Since the mid-1970s, Byrne has worked on nearly every major American superhero. Byrne’s better-known work has been on Marvel Comics’ X-Men and Fantastic Four and the 1986 relaunch of DC Comics’ Superman franchise. Coming into the comics profession exclusively as a penciler, Byrne began co-plotting the X-Men comics during his tenure on them, and launched his writing career in earnest with Fantastic Four (where he also started inking his own pencils). During the 1990s he produced a number of creator-owned works, including Next Men and Danger Unlimited.
