Energy prices have become a major headache for the Biden administration, with the soaring gas prices forcing the President to urge OPEC to increase oil production. Several lawmakers are encouraging the administration to tap into the Strategic Petroleum Reserve. Republican Congressman John R. Curtis of Utah's 3rd Congressional District joins to discuss the high energy prices Americans are facing and why he believes the Biden administration has been offering the wrong solutions. He goes on to explain why Republicans must have a seat at the table during discussions surrounding energy and climate issues and his hope that the parties can come together on important issues. The agency is also tracking a serious drug problem in the U.S. For the first time ever the CDC data shows that in a 12-month period more 100-thousand Americans have died due to drug overdoses -- an almost 29-percent increase from the year before. Authorities are also seeing an increase in lethal fentanyl laced drugs being distributed across the country. Many district attorneys in California including in Orange County, will now pursue murder charges against drug dealers, if someone dies as a result of using drugs linked to them. Former DC police detective, defense attorney and FOX News contributor, Ted Williams weighs in. Plus, commentary by Guy Benson, host of The Guy Benson Show.

Barbara Lang on the need for more women in Congress ~ "Women tend to try to solve problems, and not as much as the politics . . . I’ve talked to a number of women that are in Congress and say, “Why are you there?” They’re not there to be on a power trip. They’re there to solve something." Barbara Lang, Former President and CEO of DC Chamber of Commerce in studio with Our Town host Andy Ockershausen Andy Ockershausen: Hi. This is Andy Ockershausen and this is Our Town. I have the absolute total pleasure to talk to a wonderful, wonderful woman who's been a very dear friend for many years. Unfortunately, she's out of the spotlight right now, but she ran our Chamber of Commerce better than anybody ever did before or since. Welcome Barbara Lang to Our Town. Barbara Lang: Andy, thank you so much. Delighted to be here. Andy Ockershausen: Well, you are a big part of Our Town and we try to ... Started this program to talk about all the good things that are going on in Our Town. A lot of them don't know about them. You know them because you live with them, but Our Town is exploding and we're all part of the explosion, what we see at the wharf, what we see at the yard, what we see that's going up on Connecticut Avenue. Isn't it wonderful thing? Barbara Lang on Life in Our Town at the Time She Started with the DC Chamber of Commerce Barbara Lang: Absolutely it is. I went to the Chamber of Commerce right after 9/11 and that was a time when we weren't sure what was going to happen. Washington was like an armed camp. The airports were closed. Retail was suffering. All the hotels were laying people off. The thing I used to say is, "My goodness, are the locust coming next," because we had all the murders that were happening, the Montgomery guys that were the sniper shootings and people were scared to death around that. There was so much happening and you just thought are we ever, ever going to recover from this? By God, now you look at Washington and the suburbs as well, because it all goes to make this region such a dynamic place. Andy Ockershausen: Our Town has exploded with so many great things, and you made many of them happen Barbara. How in the world ... You were working for Uncle Sam and then you left that and went into the private sector. Is that correct? Barbara Lang: I really only had- Andy Ockershausen: Fannie Mae? Barbara Lang: Yeah, but Fannie Mae was private. Andy Ockershausen: That's correct. I know that. Barbara Lang: It's private, but people thought it was government owned, but it was a private New York ... Publicly traded on the Stock Exchange. But prior to that I was with IBM for 25 years. So I spent 25 years in IBM. Andy Ockershausen: Not in this market though, right? 25 Years at IBM - The Road to Our Town Barbara Lang: A little bit in this market, yeah. I started in Jacksonville, Florida. I then moved to Atlanta and then to Washington. I spent a total of 25 years at IBM and then Fannie Mae recruited me and so I went in as a vice-president and chief procurement officer at Fannie Mae and spent 10 years there, then went to the Chamber of Commerce. Andy Ockershausen: You're too young for that Barbara. Barbara Lang: Oh, aren't you sweet? Thank you. You keep saying that. Andy Ockershausen: I'm trying to think of the name ... Kent Cushenberry? Do you remember that name? Barbara Lang: Kent Cushenberry? I worked for Kent when he headed up community relations. That was one of my last two jobs with IBM. Andy Ockershausen: He was a very dear friend, a very dear friend. Barbara Lang: Yeah. He was great and sorry to see him go. He's somebody that left here all too soon. Andy Ockershausen: Oh yeah, he was young. Barbara Lang: He was a young man. Andy Ockershausen: Before him there was a man ... What's our favorite sports announcer, Timmy Brant. His father had the job before Kent did way back. Tim Brant, do you remember him? Barbara Lang: Yeah. I know the name, but I did not know him.
Carol Schwartz reading from the back cover summary of her new book "Quite A Life!, From Defeat to Defeat and Back"~ "Carol Schwartz tells it like it was. Warts and all. . . if you want an outspoken, personal autobiography with pictures galore, that also talks about the history of DC since Home Rule, takes you behind the scenes of chaotic campaigns, as well as shows you the inner workings of government, all rolled together, come on this ride with me. . . It's a journey of wins and defeats and coming back with hope." Former DC Councilwoman and Author, Carol Schwartz and Our Town host Andy Ockershausen in studio Andy Ockershausen: This is Our Town. This is Andy Ockershausen, and I'm so delighted, more ways than you'll ever realize, and I hope sometime during this broadcast you know how much I appreciate this woman, what she's meant to Our Town for over 40 years. What she has done for Washington. That's Carol Schwartz. I always call her Mayor Tootsie. I think she should have been Mayor of Our Town many times. All the times she ran. What she brought was so much fire to our council and so much interest and so much of a woman that really cared about Our Town and Carol Schwartz, welcome to Our Town. Andy and Carol: Police Boys and Girls Club Connection Carol Schwartz: Thank you, Andy, and it's nice to be with you again. We served together for, oh gosh, decades and decades on the Metropolitan Police Boys and Girls Clubs. Andy Ockershausen: You were Chairman of the Board. Carol Schwartz: I was. I was the first woman President ... Andy Ockershausen: Absolutely. Carol Schwartz: ... in their 61 year history. In fact when I got there in 1979, when I was on the School Board, Dick England, God bless his soul ... Andy Ockershausen: Absolutely. Carol Schwartz: Oh I loved him. He brought me on and when I got there, women were just allowed on the board. Before that they had an auxiliary group of women that just baked the brownies. I actually bake a pretty good brownie, but that's not the role I wanted to play there. Andy Ockershausen: The club was the Boys Club and then we added girls as we went along. The Police Boys and Girls Club but at one time it was a Police Boys Club, so that hung over for a while but you certainly changed it and you did so much for Our Town and that club. We lost the police department but I think we made so many inroads with it. Carol Schwartz: The police are still involved with that one group because they merged with the Boys and Girls Clubs of America. Andy Ockershausen: of America, right? Carol Schwartz: Yeah, which I always fought because I thought it was great to have our distinction and have ... Andy Ockershausen: A local group. Carol Schwartz: ... the police involved, local group involved with the police department and it still is today. They've left that alone, thank goodness. Andy and Carol: Duke Zeibert's Connection Andy Ockershausen: What you did for Our Town, but that was just a sprinkling of all the things. Carol, we used to see each other all the time at a place that doesn't exist anymore called Duke Zeibert's. Carol Schwartz: Oh I loved that. Andy Ockershausen: We were in town and it was Our Town and you always saw people in and out of Duke's and you were a big part of Duke's. Carol Schwartz: Oh I loved Duke's. I didn't go that often because it was a little far from where I worked. Andy Ockershausen: Absolutely. Carol Schwartz: Whenever I went it was the biggest treat and he was so cute. He introduced everybody and he would introduce you and I even though we'd known each other about 30 years at that point, he would always introduce us. Andy Ockershausen: He was a greeter. Carol Schwartz: Oh he was a great greeter. Andy Ockershausen: We used to kid him, he thought he was Toots Shor. He's a Jewish Toots Shor. Carol Schwartz: I think he was even better. He was wonderful, wonderful. The Road From Texas to Washington DC Andy Ockershausen: Carol,
