Welcome true believers to X-Men Horoscopes where each week our host Lodro Rinzler is in conversation with a special guest to discuss the X-Men issue that aligns with a significant month and year from their life and what that issue reveals about their future. This week we are joined by Scott Koblish who has done just about every job imaginable in the comics industry, although fans of this podcast likely know him as the artist for Deadpool, X-Men '92 and those amazing 60th anniversary of the X-Men covers. We talk about the first comic he ever read - Uncanny X-Men 138 - which is a perfect onramp for anyone wanting to know about the 1960s/1970s X-Men. Also in this episode: Cyclops can fit his life inside a small laundry bag the funeral of Jean Grey! Cyclops longs to be as emotionless as Cerebro Colossus is necessary...for standing in the background or being in the foreground if you need to punch someone the classic moment where Cyclops convinces all of the Sentinels to go fight the sun Kitty Pryde shows up to the first day of school in a b*tch t-shirt What does any of this mean for Scott's future? Well, this episode is one part X-Men Horoscope, one part insider look at how the comics industry works. Tune in for more! Scott Koblish is an American Comic-book Artist who has worked on hundreds of comics for Marvel, Disney, Image, Dark Horse, Valiant, Boom and DC Comics. At Marvel, Scott worked on nearly every title they publish and just listing those titles would provide such a ridiculously long set of words that gazing upon it would make your eyes glaze over and your head hurt if he subjected you to it, but he had a 6-year run on Deadpool, where he co-created Deadpool 2099, so at least something he drew will likely outlive his heirs. At DC, he pencilled and inked Batman: Gotham Nights, DC: Primal Age, Titans: Giant, Aquaman: the Becoming, and Flash Annual 2024 and How To Draw DC, and worked with George Pérez as an inker on Wonder Woman, Worlds' Finest, The Brave And The Bold and Final Crisis: Legion of 3 Worlds and inked Keith Giffen's OMAC run. He is also the author of the book The Many Deaths of Scott Koblish. More of Lodro Rinzler's work can be found here and here and you can follow the podcast on Instagram at xmenpanelsdaily where we post X-Men comic panels...daily. Dibujar, dibujar y dibujar. Viñetas y páginas. Historias e historietas.
It's another big everything-changes-forever epic as Mark Waid hits “Terminal Velocity.” The discovery of the Speed Force as the source of superspeed in the DC Universe is transforming Wally West emotionally and physically, and his future with Linda Park is at stake. True love conquers all (sorry for the spoiler), but they won't necessarily live happily ever as they have to pick up the pieces after the fairytale ending. We'll discuss Wally's often-frustrating tendency to keep his loved ones in the dark and debate whether it matters that the villain of the piece is a bit generic. Because comic fans need to rank things, we'll also weigh in on whether “Terminal Velocity” or “The Return of Barry Allen” is the highlight of the run. All this plus Mirror Master and some kind of Lovecraftian monster, too! Discussed in this episode: Flash #0 and 95-105, plus Flash Annual #8 (1996). Our look at Mark Waid's legendary run on The Flash continues! After taking on his first major assignment as a writer, retelling Wally West's origin, and paring down the supporting cast to help focus on Wally's journey to maturity, Waid goes for broke with an epic, life-changing event storyline that today we know as “The Return of Barry Allen.” If Wally's beloved mentor is back from the dead, where does that leave our no-longer fastest man alive? This very cinematic storyarc is perhaps the peak of Waid's run, and along the way, we'll also discuss penciler Greg LaRocque's contributions to these issues, the development of the Wally West-Linda Park romance, and what makes Jay Garrick such a cool guy. Discussed in this episode: Flash #69-79, plus Flash Annual #6 (1994) and Green Lantern #30-31 and 40.

Like Chris Claremont on X-Men or Frank Miller on Daredevil, Mark Waid's work on The Flash was so additive and transformative that later creators can't help but draw from it. Writing or co-writing the book from 1992 to 2000 (minus a one-year hiatus), Waid did around a hundred issues, including annuals and other tie-ins…and we're going to read every single one! Our eight-part look at Waid's run begins with a brief history of the Wally West Flash series that launched in 1987 and focuses on the Year One storyline “Born to Run,” which redefined Wally from an unlikable jerk to the ultimate Flash fan struggling to live up to high expectations. Discussed in this episode: Flash #62-68, plus The Flash Special (1990), Flash Annual #4 (1992), and Flash Annual #5 (1993)

You've basically got a story within a story here, one of my favorite kinds of comics, but a specific kind at that. What inspired the concept behind this annual?I love how many full page splashes you give Serg Acuna, was there a formula or a thinking process as to where those splashes take place?I have to respect your nerdness, Jeremy, as there's not one but multiple references to pop culture. I think I caught a Harry Potter, a Star Trek, maybe Rocketeer too, do you ever consciously think about putting references like this into the story?Something I think fans will love about this annual is how you write Linda and how you convey her strength even prior to having powers. Why was that important to highlight for you with this annual? There's a cliffhanger here that'll have folks gasp, without spoiling it, how serious are you and DC Comics in pursuing this storyline? In your humble opinion what is a more powerful weapon for Linda, super speed...or journalism/writing?What comics are you reading right now? What is your favorite form of procrastination?

#BestEventEver coverage of the event Eclipso: The Darkness Within. This time around we're talking the Flash portion. Feel free to send feedback to coffeeandcomicspodcast@gmail.com For... A podcast covering comics and related media in the span of a coffee break.
The (finally bi-weekly as originally intended) podcast (not really) dedicated to DC's New Bloods returns (for a second "season" of indefinite length after a one-off in Spring 2015 & four episodes in April)! We're (actually only one person involved) back with a show that was 100% completed on May 15th but left on the shelf for nearly five months because Frank got distracted by the next shiny object (specifically, four Martian Manhunter podcasts for a JLA: Year One crossover rather belatedly advertised within.) But hey, it's funner and longer than usual with lots of goofy voices and bad acting processed through lame filters! Our subject is Nick Kovak, one of the most "successful" (highly relative usage here) of the New Bloods as the stealth vigilante with vision powers, Argus! As an advantageous byproduct of his mostly appearing in Flash comics written by his co-creator Mark Waid during the arguable heyday of Wally West's run, we'll get to touch on some actual well liked comics for a change! This episode covers The Flash Annual #6, spotlight segments from Bloodbath Special #2, & Flash #86 (with notes related to #92-100, the introduction of Impulse and the "Terminal Velocity" arc.) Oh, and a brief nod to the world's most famous French-Canadian, in honor of Bass & Siskoid. You can follow along with our reading of the annual at Scans Daily. Spill Some Blood!!!* *across social media only. Tweet host Diabolu Frank directly, or probe @rolledspine as a group.
