Episode #42: May is Mental Health Awareness Month. In honor of this we explore the question “What is Your Soul Food?“ This episode is about self-care and the many ways we can attend to ourselves to support our mental health. But it is also about so much more than that!  These “soul food” activities and practices also help us work through both large and small traumas and helps us feel more resilient when facing the challenges of life. When we find ways to feed our own soul, we find ourselves more internally resourced and, therefore, more available to be kind, feel compassion and lend support to others. In this show, we hear from some community members about the soul foods that nourish them.  Host psychotherapist Debra Sloss and psychotherapist and grief and trauma specialist Kara Bowman discuss how soul foods support mental and physical health. We received such an array of different approaches from our listeners, that we made this this into a two-part series. Word and Songs | Allowing the Word of God to direct our thoughts and action in this season of LENT and beyond with Sr Lines Salazar, fsp The season of Lent invites us to open up our hearts to the Lord who continuously and lovingly reminds us to be a loving neighbors to others. Lent provides us the opportunity to examine ourselves more deeply, to see where we could grow as a person, and to change positively our perspective in life/ in order to become more fully grounded in the truth that is founded on the word of God. Pope Francis in his Lenten Message for this year reminds us that “regular listening to the word of God makes us open and docile” to the inspiration of His Holy Spirit. Indeed, when we allow the word of God to take root in our hearts, all our thoughts and actions are motivated by the word of God, and thus, doing good and wishing the best for others becomes second nature for us. During this campaign period leading to the national elections in May, many among us are experiencing bitterness and anger, with some even resorting to character assassination maligning the personhood of others without any basis. It is indeed very sad that this situation should happen to us. Many of us professed to be Bible-reading Christian who go to Church regularly and pray to the same God. And yet, it seems many of us fail to understand the moral values of a true Christian, and to live the demands that it asks of us. It means that wherever we are, whatever we do, all our actions and decisions should be enlightened by the truth. And that truth/ can only come from an understanding that is profoundly influenced by the word of God. The Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines, in its pastoral letter last February 25 called on the faithful to seek the truth amidst the extensive disinformation that is going on and being spread on social media, especially about what happened during the time of Martial Law and EDSA people power. There is a proliferation of “false information and narratives” that does not only seek to manipulate/ what truly happened during those years but also target to discredit certain people. The bishops said that “the attempt to delete or destroy our collective memory through the seeding of lies and false narratives… is dangerous, for it poisons our collective consciousness and destroys the moral foundations of our institutions. Neglect of truth is detrimental for all of us, for the foundation of a good society and responsible government is the truth. Shall we allow our children and the young to be educated in lies? Can we afford to make lies become the basis of our laws and their implementation? What happens to a family or a society that is not founded on truth?” Lies told repeatedly eventually takes on a semblance of truth. It is truly alarming that this phenomenon is happening on social media. So many lies are being peddled as “truth.” And it is said that many have chosen to believe these “false narratives”. It may also happen that even members of our own family or close friends believe this “fake news” and are the ones disseminating them. According to F. Diane Barth, a psychotherapist from New York, people who believe the lies being told to them do so because they “feel vulnerable to allow the truth and its consequences to manifest in [their] lives.” So even if the truth does emerge eventually, these people continue to believe the “lie” to protect themselves from losing “faith in their own ability to make good judgments.” Truth is one of the many issues that confront us in the upcoming elections. It is also an important value among other values that we should look for in a candidate who is running for public office. It is our basic right as registered voters to participate in next month's national election. But when we do so, let us be guided by the truth that is shaped by the word of God. Supporting Kid's Dreams (0:00:00) We've all heard the fantastic dreams about what kids want to be when they grow up –the most famous rockstar of all time, the first girl to live on Pluto, even president of the entire universe, to name a few examples. And while we laugh at some of these dreams as being a little unrealistic, we also don't want to restrict their capabilities and creativity. If your kid wants to be an Olympic gold medalist, what's really to stop them? So, taking all of this into account, how can we be realistic about supporting our child's dreams, while also making sure to not limit their full potential? Today we are joined by Katie Hurley, a child and adolescent psychotherapist, here with us to discuss how to healthily support your child's dreams.   Lisa's Adventure Club Grand Prize Giveaway (0:20:41) Lisa and Richie announce the winner of the Adventure Club Grand Prize and chat with her about her plans.   Teaching Teens about the Dangers of Driving (0:24:31) Teaching your child to drive is more stressful than potty training, teaching them how to read, and letting them go on their first date. Car accidents are the leading cause of teenage death at 33 percent. Over 300,000 teenagers are involved in car accidents every year. So, how can you not worry?! Most states require at least 50 hours of driving experience before your child can get their driver's license. So, how can you and your child survive those long hours with as little stress as possible? To help answer this question and more, we've invited Kirk Halliday, a father of five and primary driving instructor to 4 of his children over the past 10 years.   Inappropriate Questions (0:36:04) We've all before been on the receiving end of inappropriate questions. Questions like “How is a great girl (or guy) like you still single?” or “What are you making at your job?” Questions like these make us feel uncomfortable and leave us unsure as to how to answer or react. But what makes people ask questions that are obviously intrusive and unwelcome? And what's the best way to handle the situation when it inevitably arises? Here to talk about why we ask inappropriate questions and how to handle it if you've been asked is LCSW F. Diane Barth.   World's Largest Frying Pan (0:52:48) What is the most food you have ever made for a gathering? Well our next guest might have you beat. We are speaking with Leon Sikes, a former Tourism Director from Rose Hill, North Carolina, home of the World's Largest Frying Pan where they can cook up to 365 chickens at a time in the 16 by 45 ft pan. We can't wait to learn about this record-breaking frying pan and hear how it was built and what it is used for.   Reinvent Your Career (1:09:56) The economy is changing, different industries are changing, and that means that available jobs are changing. If you've worked in the same industry forever, you might be a worried that you're never going to be able to go back to what you're used to. But maybe that's a good thing. Maybe that means it's time for a fresh start, time to reinvent your career. Louie Gravance is a Business and Workplace Consultant who spent twenty-five years working at The Walt Disney Company. We're excited to pick his creative brain on this trying topic today.   Weekend Review (1:27:55) Lisa and Richie talk about what there is to do this weekend, from the newest shows coming to streaming services to the New York Times Bestseller list.

Die Definition, die wir in der Folge verwenden, haben wir bei Jennice Vilhauer gelesen: "Ghosting is defined as cutting off all communication and dropping out of someone’s life without an explanation of any kind."
