In this week's episode, the Beach's softball team are currently enjoying a successful month of April going 5-1. This coming off a forgetful start to the season. The Beach has since turned it around and their last game against UC Davis was their first loss since March 27. The women's beach volleyball team are coming off an exceptional performance at the Stanford Invitational. They took down ranked opponents #8 Stanford and #16 Pepperdine. Women's tennis continue to struggle dropping their third straight match, this time at the hands of Cal State Fullerton. The Dirtbags set a historic school record with a lopsided score 28-2 against Cal Poly, with the record of biggest score differential in a game and most hits (32) in a game. They were unable to fight off Cal Poly, though, dropping two games in the three game series. #2 Men's volleyball are unable to overcome #10 UC Davis following a sweep in the first game of a split home-away series. The 3-2 loss in the second encounter still has the Beach atop the standings in the Big West as the regular season nears its end. The Acura Grand Prix returns to Long Beach converting the streets of Downtown Long Beach into a race track. The event was held over the weekend over three days, culminating in the big Sunday race. This week on the word on Long Beach we talk to residents of Long Beach to get their perspective on the possibility of a vaccine passport.  We also visit a new pilot program with the Long Beach Police Department designed to prevent lethal force. :42 On August 24, 2021the Long Beach Health Department gave an overview of where we stand as a city in a meeting with the City Council.  During that meeting, City Council was advised that while the number of vaccinated residents is increasing, hospitalizations and deaths are also rising.  With this in mind, we ask people in Downtown Long Beach how they feel about the possibility of a vaccine passport that would require patrons to be fully vaccinated to enter certain businesses.  We share their thoughts. 10:47 Long Beach Post Reporter and Editor Anthony Pignataro discusses a move by the Long Beach Police department to administer a sedative instead of lethal force to potentially violent or combative suspects.  There is controversy surrounding the policy and Pignataro explains why LBDP is testing the controversial practice.

While some were reluctant to join us on-air, this time did give us an opportunity to follow up on the transition from Fern's, to The Bird Dive Bar in Long Beach. She became a photographer at the age of 13 and almost solely shot punk bands, specifically local Nardcore bands. She graduated Otis/Parsons School of Design with a degree in photography. She also published, edited, shot, and wrote for her magazine Mute on the Floor which existed from 1990-1993. Kirsten (Bruce) Meekins grew up in Redlands, California, and now splits her time between there and the Reno/Tahoe area of Northern Nevada. She is a Registered Natural Health Practitioner and has just launched a new nutrition coaching practice. She still attends as many live music shows as she can and credits the DIY scene in the 80s with her entrepreneurial spirit. Laura Beth Bachman lives in Downtown Long Beach with her partner, Matt Irwin. She is the drummer for the all girl surf/punk band The Neptunas. Laura is a truth seeker and beat keeper who believes it takes grit to be a woman in this world. Stacy Russo, a librarian and professor at Santa Ana College, is a writer, poet, and artist. Her book We Were Going to Change the World: Interviews with Women from the 1970s/1980s Southern California Punk Rock Scene (Santa Monica Press) features interviews with 37 women who were involved in the scene in diverse ways, including as musicians, photographers, journalists, fanzine creators, and fans.
