Being a Dirtbag means one thing: you're the lowest of the low. And sometimes, you're even lower than that. The F Squad has been called in on a daring mission that's already killed the Dirtbags who stood a chance to get it done. The misfit team of Jelly, Cargo, Monster Truck and Dave dive into the belly of the beast and are forced to do whatever they have to make it out alive. Kickstart Dirtbags here! Special Guests: Nerdy (beacons.page/nerdynightly) & Clarus (claruspolaris.org) of Roleplay Relay (beacons.ai/roleplayrelay) Dirtbags! is a sci-fi shooter TTRPG where players take on the role of convicts in a corporate-run dystopian world, coerced into the Military Foundation's Rehabilitation Incentive Program (R.I.P.) with the promise of freedom and reintegration. Forced to endure relentless tours of duty, Dirtbags are expendable, thrown at every problem imaginable, from distant alien bug infestations and scab pirates to suicidal salvage missions, courier work, and anything else the Corporate Echelon demands. This week on Teed Up, hosts Matthew Gomez and Matthew Coleman are joined by four Long Beach State Dirtbags players to discuss the upcoming season and their reasons to be optimistic ahead of the inaugural Big West Tournament. Senior outfielders Kyle Ashworth, Connor Charpiot and Alex Champagne are returning to LBSU this season and senior infielder Nathan Cadena is transferring from San Jose State. The upperclassmen discuss their leadership roles on a roster with significant turnover from last season. They continue by talking about the differences they have seen this offseason leading up to the spring compared to years past now that head coach TJ Bruce is at the helm. They also share some notable memories from the past season and the Dirtbags' current state heading into this year. The episode wraps up with a friendly game of rapid-fire questions to get to know the players better. Some questions include who their favorite and least favorite players as kids were, their favorite stadiums to play at and who some of their best competition has been on the playing field. Hey there dirtbags! I'm excited for you all to hear this interview with Paisley Fields. Paisley grew up in a small town in Iowa and after finishing college moved to NYC. He's had a remarkable journey in music and tells me about the first time he performed in college, about forming a band and touring in Japan, and like we usually do on A Dirtbag's Guide, we talk about religion and religious trauma. His album Limp Wrist has been called an exploration of where rural queerness intersects with religion. It's a really solid interview and I'm really looking forward to hearing what you all think of it! Marking the podcast's return, Teed Up hosts Matthew Gomez and Matthew Coleman debut season four joined by the new Dirtbags head coach, TJ Bruce. Yet to make his official head coaching debut at Long Beach State, Bruce formerly played and worked as part of the Dirtbags staff for six seasons between 2004-2010. He highlights his relationships with Dirtbag legends Jered Weaver and Troy Tulowitzki and recaps a memorable 2004 season that saw him and his teammates host the Long Beach Super Regional in a series loss to the University of Arizona. With fall practices approaching, Bruce shares what it will take to improve the Dirtbags and how they might be considered a true competitor again and not just another mid-major. Recruiting and departures become a constant conversation as the hosts analyze what the roster will eventually look like and how familiar faces will be replaced from last season's roster. Thanks as usual for tuning in to this episode of A Dirtbag's Guide To Life on The Road. This episode is a conversation with my pal Jefferson White that took place back in late 2020 and it was such a fun conversation I figured it was worth putting out again during one of our off weeks. Jefferson is an actor originally from Iowa who's been in all your favorite things such as internationally famous show Yellowstone, the recent and highly acclaimed film Civil War as well as a large number of other great things. Hey Dirtbags! This week's episode of A Dirtbag's Guide to Life On The Road is a really special one. I got to sit down with Craig Finn of The Hold Steady a while back and talk about his life in music. From his first guitar lessons and being turned on to independent record stores, to what it takes to make a band like The Hold Steady be able to exist for 20+ years. I even got to deep dive into his process of writing the song that first pulled me into his songwriting and stories, Magic Marker. It was a weird time in my life when I first heard that song, and I was really drawn to the hyper detailed story he was able to create within such a short format of a song.I remember listening to Magic Marker over and over and thinking “man, I'd really like to talk to Craig about that song.” Life being the unpredictably poetic thing that it is, a few years later I was asked to guitar tech for them on some shows, and I eventually worked up the nerve to ask Craig to come on the podcast. He was enthusiastic at the idea and I'm super grateful for that. I'm also really grateful for the times I've been able to work with The Hold Steady and see how much fun they all have every single time they are on stage. It's inspiring, and I suggest you see The Hold Steady, or Craig Finn live as soon as you have the chance. Get tickets to see The Hold Steady Live! Listen to The Hold Steady! Joe Reinhart is what I want to be when I grow up. He's like the cool kid from down street who got into skateboarding and punk rock before everyone and was always down to teach you how to Kickflip or play the bass solo from Maxwell Murder. He's just fucking cool, and he's got a long track record of playing in cool bands (Algernon Cadwallader, Hop Along, Dogs on Acid) and helping other cool bands (Joyce Manor, Dr. Dog, Charles Ellsworth) make rad records. Hello my fellow Dirtbags! This episode was a whole lotta fun. I've known Cody for 5 or 6 years now and the more I get to know him the more I think he's rad as fuck. We grew up in the same corner of Arizona but he's about 10 years younger than me. What I noticed most about Cody when I first met him was his passion for the music he plays and the bands he's played in, and watching him live has always been pretty infectious. You can tell he's not someone who takes the opportunity to perform lightly and tries to make the most of it each time he gets. Cody has recently started his own podcast, Visceral Musings, and I was lucky enough to be a guest on there recently, so it was nice to flip the script back around and be interviewing him this time around. This episode is kinda unique. My friend and business partner in Burro Borracho Records, Mark Ricks aka MC Busstop interviewed me while I was in the middle of a crazy touring run last year after I had been robbed in San Francisco. This is that interview, but because it's over a year old, I decided to cut in some new updates throughout the episode to kind of get you up to speed on what's been going on in my world since we went off the air last year. If you're a long time listener or fan of my music, I think you'll dig this episode a lot. If you're interested in what it's like being a DIY touring musician with all of the unpredictable ups & downs you'll probably really dig this one as well. Jordan Jensen is one of the funniest people I've ever had the pleasure to meet. We recorded this podcast a week or two before the 2020 election and it's crazy to listen to it now nearly 4 years later and compare where we were with where we are. I don't know if it's good or not, but it's definitely interesting. Very shortly after meeting Jordan I knew it wouldn't be long before she was being recognized and praised by a much larger audience and in the time since we recorded this podcast she's started touring nonstop, released her first comedy special, and launched a very funny podcast with fellow comedian Ian Fidance. It's rare that I get to have a conversation where I become best friends with someone recorded, but sometimes that's what having a podcast is all about. I knew when I first met Blake that he was a super cool dude, but it wasn't until this conversation that we realized how much our musical journeys, and tastes were aligned. It was this conversation that made me start thinking about having Blake produce my next record and then a few months later he did produce my next record (more on that later). If there's a positive about watching President Trump be churned through the meat grinder, it's watching with very clear eyes as the Deep States rushes to cover up its own fraud and corruption. As Team Red records a record two-day haul of $200 million in donations, J6 Committee chair Bennie Thompson moves to strip Trump's secret service detail should he be sentenced to prison. (Is this crazy stuff or WHAT?) JD Vance emerges as a leaning VP contender and Cory Mills suggests moving the Republican National Convention to Independence Day.

Dimitri and Khalid continue their multi-episode journey into the actually existing history of the geographic region known for millennia as Palestine, and the actually existing people who inhabited it under (mostly) uninterrupted Ottoman rule from 1516 to 1918. The burgeoning soap and cotton economies in Jabal/Nablus, the rise of an Arab petty bourgeoisie merchant class in the 19th century, the establishment of the autonomous mutasarriflik of Jerusalem in 1876, Abe Lincoln's rudely interrupted California/Jerusalem travel plans, the weird German etymology of “Philistine” as a slur against townie chuds, the post-Civil War explosion of bourgeois US tourism, the popular American notion that Palestine was forever “cursed” because the Jews rejected Christ, Mark Twain's bestselling travel satire “The Innocents Abroad”, comparing the Sea of Galilee to Lake Tahoe, doing a heckin' irony comparing Palestinian Jews and Arabs to American Indians, “Palestine is Dream Land”, the Mark Twain Dirtbag Tendency in American travel journalism, his legendary bit fake-weeping over the grave of “Adam” in Jerusalem, the comic destruction of all authority/mowing the grass for new regimes of bourgeois capitalist commodification, “Tom Sawyer Abroad”, “pure theology by the laws that protect real estate”, Israel's status as the ultimate irony-pilled smol bean country, and more. In Episode 65, we celebrate Halloween with a huge helping covering David Gordon Green's EXORCIST: BELIEVER, then shift gears to cover a perfect seasonal sleeper with Frank Darabont's THE MIST. We wrap up with a recap of our incredible time hosting this year's Carpenterfest, and somewhere in all of that, we may just finally put our Halloween Ends banter to rest. Happy Halloween, Dirtbags!
There's something special about a good old fashioned treasure hunt that never grows old, no matter when the story took place or who was involved. From finding veins of gold in Alaska to buried loot in the desert, striking it rich in this way is a fantasy. But sometimes, fantasy becomes reality, and it changes everything. When treasure in the form of 6,000 pounds of high-grade Mexican marijuana fell from the California sky during a plane crash in the winter of 1976, lives were changed and lives were lost – and legend was carved into the soul of Yosemite National Park. We love our National Parks and we know you do too but when you're out there, remember to enjoy the view but watch your back.
