What makes people want to go to museum? How can they ensure they still remain relevant? I spend a lot of my time in museums. They inspire me, inform me and put me into mindsets I wouldn't otherwise be in. So I wanted to learn more about them.Episode Summary On this episode, I sit down with Matthew McNerney, Chief Creative Officer of Luci Creative, to explore the hidden psychology behind museum design. Matthew has worked on everything from the Lego House in Denmark to presidential libraries, science museums, and even the NASCAR Hall of Fame.Together, we dive into the ways museum spaces are meticulously crafted to shape how we learn, feel, and interact with history, culture, and ideas. We also discuss the challenges museums face today—from declining visitor numbers to evolving audience expectations—and what it takes to design experiences that are both educational and entertaining.Along the way, Matthew shares fascinating insights from his career, from how a single professor changed the trajectory of his life to the unexpected lessons learned from working on hospital play spaces. If you've ever been inspired by a museum visit or wondered why some exhibits engage while others fall flat, this conversation is for you.Guest Biography: Matthew McNerney Matthew McNerney is the Chief Creative Officer at Luci Creative, a museum and brand experience design firm that works at the intersection of curiosity and change. *This episode was originally aired in June 2020*Produced by Jetbooks, Chartered Accountants Ireland.Subscribe to the Business Builders Newsletter for the very best ideas I've discovered on business and personal growth.Junior's Deli & Cafe. Paulie's Pizza. Lotts & Co. Can you see a pattern?Barry McNerney and his brother Paul have built all of these iconic Irish businesses, and I loved hearing Barry's tales of determination and passion in this interview. Starting out as an equity trader, lured to the profession by the slick Wall Street types you'd see in films, Barry soon realised this world wasn't what he'd imagined. His brother Paul being a chef, they decided to try their luck in the restaurant business and opened Junior's. It wasn't easy, but Junior's became a hit with the community, with its authentic, honest, affordable food. What's amazing is what Barry and Paul did next. They went on to open Paulie's Pizza and boutique grocer Lotts & Co (all with big challenges along the way which you'll hear about). Still, Barry and Paul kept innovating, and seeing the headaches that ordering produce for restaurants presented, created UnifyOrdering. Starting out as a simple app to connect restaurateurs with suppliers, Unify is now available for everyone as a free app to get fresh, local Irish produce delivered to their homes. This week's guest and episode is a great one, John McNerney! Mostly everyone in the farrier world has probably seen or heard of the "Yukon Forge" line of tools throughout the past couple decades. But, something we learned in this conversation with John, is that he has the passion and dedication to serving his community by making it a safer place for those living in it when he decided to become a Policeman. John has completed his tenure on the force and during that time he was dedicated to catching the worst criminals off the streets. He talked about how he needed a new passion or goal to strive for in his life and found that by training himself and his K-9 to be at the top of their game and part of the elite. Becoming a policeman isn't the only highlight of John's career, John has been on the American Farrier's Team multiple times, competed at Calgary World Championships, winning the Forged in Fire television series, creating some of the best farrier tools on the market, and much more that you can hear about in this episode. Mary McNerney is the brains behind a new running programme for schools in Chicago - and hopefully beyond. The former school teacher is the founder of Run Like A Cheetah, which has the ambitious mission of teaching social-emotional learning to children through the power of running. Run Like A Cheetah aims to teach running in a fun, inclusive, non-competitive way to improve children's physical and mental wellbeing, particularly those who may have suffered trauma or come from disadvantaged backgrounds. Mary hopes running can become a lifelong friend and companion for children who have previously seen the sport as a punishment or simply the means to breed elite athletes. Running Tales also spoke to Mary about her own running journey which saw her take up the sport at 16 and go on to complete three marathons - Chicago, twice, and New York - as well as enjoy running with her own children... ---------------------------------- Find out more about Run Like A Cheetah here: https://runlikeacheetah.com/

As a Certified Veterinary Pain Practitioner, Tasha McNerney knows her way around pain detection and control. And she says pain control and prevention is so much more than just the pills that your vet gives you when you pick your dog up after surgery. Whether your dog is having a minor procedure to remove a small lump or a painful thoracotomy or amputation, pain control starts before the surgery. Some vets will send medications for you to give before coming in that help to calm your dog or provide pain relief. The drugs used to premedicate your dog before anesthesia often have pain-relieving properties as well. After the surgery, your vet WILL want you to give those pain meds for a couple days, but she will also encourage you to feed a nutritious diet to support healing and may give instructions to ice or massage painful areas. For longer-lasting pain, therapies such as laser, acupuncture, home exercises, and other non-pharmacological techniques may be employed. Tasha explains all of these things, as well as how to recognize signs of pain that indicate your dog needs extra support. And I saw recently that Russia is also operating these spy balloons and they're being shot down over Ukraine with that conflict. While there currently isn't a connection between the balloon and cybersecurity concerns, intelligence experts believe it demonstrates how China is ramping up their espionage tools and gathering intelligence, which could potentially lead to cyber-attacks aimed at US critical infrastructure.Senior VP of Security, Michael McNerney, has an extensive background in threat intelligence and spent a lot of his career with these types of threats in mind.McNerney is a part of a ransomware task force, a working group of government and private industry leaders brought together by the White House. Tasha McNerney is a Veterinary Technician Specialist in anesthesia, and she's sharing all the details on what your dog's veterinary care team does to keep your dog safe, the things that can go wrong while under anesthesia, and what you can do to prepare your dog beforehand. One of her best tips for dog lovers feeling anxious about an anesthetic event? Talk to your dog's veterinary team. Ask about what training and credentials your state requires for someone to do anesthesia, as well as how the staff monitor dogs while under anesthesia and during recovery. Vets and vet techs all understand that you love and are worried about your dog, and hearing the protocols in place can help to ease your mind. Listen in to learn about the different types of anesthesia and some of the different drugs that your vet will use to keep your dog calm and pain-free. Hey Caffeinators, how are you finding life in vet med these days? That's basically what we asked our guest for this episode, the incomparable Tasha McNerney, BS, CVT, CVPP, VTS(Anesthesia) and just let the conversation go from there! You probably know her as an admin and creator for the Veterinary Anesthesia Nerds Facebook page, or perhaps as the creator of the Veterinary Anesthesia Nerds podcast (definitely check that out if you haven't already!!), and she was previously a guest on the Vet Tech Cafe in August, 2020. For this episode there was no script, no discussion points we wanted to hit; just an organic discussion of where we're at right now and the exchange of some out-of-the-box ideas. A couple potentially paradigm shifting thoughts from this episode include the idea of a production-based pay scale for veterinary technicians, the abandonment of conference proceedings, and so much more! You'll have to tune in to hear the explanations, rationale, and additional ideas! Join us, won't you? We'd love to hear your thoughts! Exploring how romantic “chemistry” is often a magnet for toxicity in relationship, we address what traits a person needs to harness in order to enter a conscious partnership. From there, only half of the work is done, since processing out those that aren't aligned with what you're trying to hone for yourself and for your relationship is the next critical step. Luckily, as we discuss in this episode, much of the ability to discern when someone is right for you comes organically from something you can control: your own level of self-mastery. Codependents, love addicts, sex addicts, love avoidants, and the anxiously attached can all find healing and empowerment from the wisdom in this episode. If there is a market that segment that cannot afford the fees of the larger incumbent players, targeting them will allow you to make an impact and start building your clientele. 2. Despite being low tech, surveys are still a great way to do customer research, especially when you are looking to actively test the way a customer would react to something new that you want to put out into the world. 3. Good surveys should be concise and able to be completed within 1 minute. If it takes longer than that, the survey might not have been structured well enough to get the answer you are looking for.
All of Jen McNerney's dark night of the soul lessons have come from trying to “fit in” and in this episode, she is sharing her experiences and her super power of “remembering" to return to your true self. As a people-pleasing teenager with a quirky personality, she said yes to taking acid at a party in high school, which turned her whole world upside down. Unable to tell what was real or not, thanks to hallucinations, hearing voices, and suicidal thoughts, she questioned whether she'd ever be sane again. One day a therapist helped her realize it wasn't her fault and that she should forgive herself. In that moment she began her journey toward self acceptance. Throughout the episode, Jen shares the various tools and techniques that help her to heal. Most notably, she shares how Neuro Emotional Technique (NET) has significantly transformed how she feels and relates to the world, and how she incorporates it when helping kids, teens, and adults find their unique voice. Jen has been drawn to energy healing for over 15 years now and says, “We are energy!” She is a Masters Level Usui Reiki Practitioner and teacher, certified Level 1 NET Practitioner. She teaches mindfulness classes to kids and adults using an array of tools to help raise one's vibration and communicate one's own unique soul. Jen balances her hard work with playing soccer with Amy.
