Duena Blomstrom is a renowned fintech thought leader who got tired of seeing the same problems in the workplace and decided to go out and try to solve them. Duena took on banking culture with "Emotional Banking" before moving onto wider organisational change with "People Before Tech". We spoke about some of the common problems faced within organisations, how to try to solve them, and some of the reasons why companies resist those solutions. Episode highlights: 1. Santa Claus is not going to come and "puke a generative culture on your enterprise" There are no magic bullets to organisational transformation, but it's also simpler than it sounds. You need to take a number of smaller, measurable steps that move the needle. And teams have a lot more power to affect change than they think - they don't need to await permission. 2. We're not fixing it because we get in our own way We let the status quo persist because we don't challenge ourselves, and think this is just the way business works. There's too much fear in the workplace and it's holding us back. 3. Impression Management is a big problem at work People are afraid of looking incompetent, intrusive or troublesome at work. This is natural, but it limits us in the workplace. Start noticing when you exhibit these behaviours, and they'll start to go away automatically. It's important to speak up. 4. All companies have some level of Human Debt As with tech debt, all companies accrue Human Debt as they grow. Human Debt is the result of all the abandoned initiatives and missed opportunities to affect change. It adds up and the interest repayments can start to cripple you. 5. You don't need to pay all the Human Debt off at once Some bad behaviours will eventually naturally expire. As a society, we've gotten better at standing up for what's right (although there's still plenty of work to do). But, ultimately, you should pay the most burdensome Human Debt off first. Buy "People Before Tech" "Built upon fascinating research and an international array of case studies, People Before Tech is an incisive examination of how organizations through their digital transformations become stranded with unoptimised teams and disenfranchised employees. Duena highlights that it is vital not just to implement technology, but also to integrate it into the existing organizational culture and structure, before providing practical guidance and advice on how business leaders and HR professionals can heighten efficiency and effectiveness of workplace teams through collaborative and innovative initiatives." Trac Bannon: To be honest, I don't remember when or how I was introduced to Duena Blomstrom. I do know that throughout the lockdowns, we began randomly hopping on calls together and chatting. It really helped us navigate the seeming melees that embrace the globe during the lockdowns. We are constantly finding strong deep topics that focus on humans. We've debated gender affirming care, child rearing, and the joys of having a partner. And if I can be totally honest, I'd consider her a friend and a crush. That's right, a crush. This is not a romantic crush. This is when you connect with someone's message and their ways of expressing themselves. Hang on and you'll understand why.One of the topics Duena and I come back to again and again is the idea of cognitive overload and human debt. Human debt is the kissing cousin of technical debt. Tech debt accrues Based on the decisions we make and possibly shortcuts we take that we will need to address or fix over time. As we make decisions, debt accumulates just like financial debt. The longer you wait to pay down the debt, generally, the bigger the debt grows and the greater the effort needed to fix it. Human debt follows the same pattern. Human debt accrues when people's issues are not addressed and needs not met. When you ignore people's needs, human debts accrue at the team level, and even at the enterprise. Teams can be empowered to reduce their human debt by learning to measure and improve their behaviors to become happier, to feel a sense of psychological safety and to experience high performing dynamics. I can talk to Duena about the human element of the technical world and she just gets it. She's also wildly independent and authentic. When we got together to record her episode of Real Technologists, she showed up in beautiful colors, perfectly applied vibrant makeup, nifty earrings, and vaping... all this to record audio. Duena Blomstrom: If I were to puff on this... Will you hear it and destroy your audio? Trac Bannon: There's raw authenticity for you. She was savvy enough to ask if the mics and recording equipment would pick up the sound of her vaping... Of course Bob, our recording engineer, popped on screen and told her to hit the vape and he would check the sound levels. Duena was cleared to vape and be her normal self. It was midday US and Duena dialed in from her office in the UK. Duena Blomstrom: I'm just tired, babe. I've been awake since 5:00 AM.

As the saying goes, people are your greatest asset. For any digital transformation projects to succeed, beyond the tech stack, merely having smart people on the team isn't sufficient; we also need to take care of them. They need to feel motivated, valued, and respected. In this episode of One Vision, Theo and Bradley chat with Duena about her latest book and the importance of doing the people work.

Our Guest Teeth Whitening Technician Eugelkis Saray Explains The Process Of Whitening Your Teeth. Eugelkis Talks About Her Teeth Whitening Company, Photo Ready Smile. Teeth whitening or teeth bleaching is the process of lightning the color of human teeth. Whitening is often desirable when teeth become yellowed over time for a number of reasons, and can be achieved by changing the intrinsic or extrinsic color of the tooth enamel. The chemical degradation of the chromogens within or on the tooth is termed as bleaching. Hydrogen peroxide is the active ingredient most commonly used in whitening products and is delivered as either hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide. Hydrogen peroxide is analogous to carbamide peroxide as it is released when the stable complex is in contact with water. When in contact with water, carbamide peroxide converts into hydrogen peroxide at a ratio of 3:1. For example, whitening product containing 30% carbamide peroxide has about 10% of hydrogen peroxide. When it diffuses into the tooth, hydrogen peroxide acts as an oxidising agent that breaks down to produce unstable free radicals.
Our Guest Speaks On Shoe & Sneaker Restoration Process. Eddie Nava Elaborates On His Personal Homeless Experience Along With His Wife Brittany Get It Popping Popcorn Owner.Main Topic- Homelessness: 54:00Homelessness is defined as living in housing that is below the minimum standard or lacks secure tenure. People can be categorized as homeless if they are: living on the streets (primary homelessness); moving between temporary shelters, including houses of friends, family and emergency accommodation (secondary homelessness); living in private boarding houses without a private bathroom or security of tenure (tertiary homelessness). The legal definition of homeless varies from country to country, or among different jurisdictions in the same country or region. United States government homeless enumeration studies also include people who sleep in a public or private place not designed for use as a regular sleeping accommodation for human beings. People who are homeless are most often unable to acquire and maintain regular, safe, secure and adequate housing due to income that is inconsistent or lacking altogether. Homelessness and poverty are interrelated. There is no methodological consent on counting the homeless and identifying their special needs; thus in most cities only estimated homeless populations are known.

The last time Duena Blomstrom (CEO of PeopleNotTech) joined us for a chat, we discussed the importance of leaders providing psychological safety for their teams as organizations absorb the impacts of COVID-19. Now, many of us are starting to consider life after the pandemic, facing what is likely to be a long and difficult recession. Duena returns to assert that this focus on PS needs to continue for the benefit of both the wellbeing and productivity of your people. Today, we’re discussing the ins and outs of writing your first book, with Duena Blomstrom, someone I’ve known for a few years in the world of financial technology and banking. Duena’s first book is coming out in April 2018, so I thought it would be a good time to catch up for a chat, to find out what went through her head (other than a few thousand words). We hooked up on Skype, had a great conversation and we came out with a few nuggets of insight and wisdom that I hope you’ll find useful. Music is by Bensound, a track called Jazzy Frenchy.

For the past 18 years, Duena has worked across Telco and Finance on strategy and consulting for sales and marketing, including a 5-year stint as Head of Sales and Marketing for Meniga. During her time at Meniga, the company went from being a tiny Icelandic start-up to a market leader in customer engagement. Duena works at the intersection of technology and behavioral science. She's passionate about helping banks transition from thinking product set to thinking customer needs. She's a regular guest on blogs and podcasts including Breaking Banks, and we're lucky to have her with us today.
