Leah Kardos in conversation with David Eastaugh https://www.leahkardos.com/ https://www.amazon.co.uk/Kate-Bushs-Hounds-Love-33/dp/B0CYP75PF3 Hounds Of Love invites you to not only listen, but to cross the boundaries of sensory experience into realms of imagination and possibility. Side A spawned four Top 40 hit singles in the UK, ‘Running Up That Hill (A Deal with God)', ‘Cloudbusting', ‘Hounds of Love' and ‘The Big Sky', some of the best-loved and most enduring compositions in Bush's catalogue. On side B, a hallucinatory seven-part song cycle called The Ninth Wave broke away from the pop conventions of the era by using strange and vivid production techniques that plunge the listener into the psychological centre of a near-death experience. Poised and accessible, yet still experimental and complex, with Hounds Of Love Bush mastered the art of her studio-based songcraft, finally achieving full control of her creative process. When it came out in 1985, she was only 27 years old. This book charts the emergence of Kate Bush in the early-to-mid-1980s as a courageous experimentalist, a singularly expressive recording artist and a visionary music producer. Track-by-track commentaries focus on the experience of the album from the listener's point of view, drawing attention to the art and craft of Bush's songwriting, production and sound design. It considers the vast impact and influence that Hounds Of Love has had on music cultures and creative practices through the years, underlining the artist's importance as a barrier-smashing, template-defying, business-smart, record-breaking, never-compromising role model for artists everywhere. VYS0043 | The Reich Stuff - Vayse to Face with Dan Lowe - Show Notes Facing down a huge topic that they have been wanting to talk about on Vayse for years, Hine and Buckley enlist integrative therapist Dan Lowe, to guide them through the massively dense, often confusing and incredibly weird life and work of Wilhem Reich. Dan is massively knowledgeable on the subject and gives fascinating insights on Reich and is patient when Hine and Buckley asking him what can only be frustratingly basic questions: What differentiates Reichian therapy from other types of psychotherapy? What is Orgone Energy? What is emotional armouring? Was there a conspiracy against Reich? Did cloud-busting really work?... and what did Kate Bush actually know about Wilhelm Reich anyway...? (Recorded 29 August 2024) Thanks to Dan for indulging us in asking questions on a subject that we know next to nothing about and thanks as always to Keith for the show notes - give the man a follow: @peakflow.bsky.social Dan Lowe online Dan on Twitter (https://x.com/Orgone1) Dan's Counselling Directory profile (https://www.counselling-directory.org.uk/counsellors/dan-lowe) Hine's Intro Cloudbuster - Wikipedia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cloudbuster) Orgone - Wikipedia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orgone) Wilhelm Reich - Wikipedia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wilhelm_Reich) Integrative psychotherapy - Wikipedia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Integrative_psychotherapy) The Life and Ideas of Wilhelm Reich with Dan Lowe - What Magic Is This? podcast (https://podtail.com/en/podcast/what-magic-is-this/the-life-and-ideas-of-wilhelm-reich-with-dan-lowe/) Who Was Wilhelm Reich? This week, returning guest Emile Milgrim (Las Nubes, Other Electricities) brings us Kate Bush, and her groundbreaking fourth studio album 'The Dreaming'. Released in 1982 - and her first that was entirely self-produced - the highly experimental collection of unconventional, at times dense soundscapes initially baffled both critics and the general public. Over time, however, it has been embraced as a triumph of inventive songwriting and unpredictable performances by an artist fully embracing her creative autonomy. Songs discussed in this episode: Dreamtime - Kate Bush; Enredados, Drop-In - Las Nubes; Running Up That Hill (A Deal With God), The Man With The Child In His Eyes (Live USTV 1978), Wuthering Heights, Cloudbusting, Sat In Your Lap, There Goes A Tenner - Kate Bush; Never Let Me Down Again - Depeche Mode; Pull Out The Pin, Rocket's Tail, Suspended In Gaffa, Leave It Open - Kate Bush; Union Strike Folk Song - Lisa Simpson; The Dreaming, Night Of The Swallow, All The Love, Houdini, Get Out Of My House - Kate Bush; Enredados - Las Nubes

Louise Post of Veruca Salt pays YMAAA a visit to talk about Kate Bush's 1985 album, Hounds of Love. Louise explains why Hounds of Love is one of her favorite albums, how Kate Bush was something of an acquired taste for her and which tracks on the album are the most special to her. The conversation also frequently turns to The Beatles and Post Malone, and Louise talks about how she wound up teaching music in the L.A. public schools. She also discusses the writing and recording process for her upcoming solo album, Sleepwalker, and the band she has assembled for her tour.Al referenced an interview that Louise and Nina Gordon did for the Women in Rock Oral History Project. You can find it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ju8QAzTGC-8.Al's memory of Kate Bush's appearance on Saturday Night Live was inaccurate, even though he said he was “99 percent sure” he remembered it correctly. She performed “The Man With the Child In His Eyes” and “Them Heavy People,” and not “Wuthering Heights” and “Babooshka,” as he had remembered. In this episode I look at the subject of hope and how to practically cultivate a hope practice. "an optimistic mindset based on the expectation of positive outcomes.'' It's one of those tools that can be a bit overlooked, easily mistaken for a lofty virtue or a whimsical fancy or naivety but it is in fact a badass resilience tool. In this episode I am taking the chapter from our book Love Your Sober Year and delving into hope and actionable steps to cultivate hope and why it's such an important part of the sober toolkit. As I always say, mental health tools, are life tools, are sober tools. In the words of my first and most enduring girl crush, the wonderful Kate Bush in Cloudbusting, ' Oooooh... I just know that something good is gonna happen, and just saying it could even make it happen...' YEAH BABY. 'Love Your Sober Year' is a seasonal guide to sustainable alcohol free living. It starts in Spring so it's the perfect time to grab your copy and start or continue your holistic sober journey. And a wee favour - If you liked the book please could you leave a review on Amazon? It really helps. Thanks so much x So grab a cuppa and let's chat. Love Kate xxx

Jocelyn Mackenzie doubles as a musician who tours with the likes of Ani DiFranco, and a professional psychic medium. For Jocelyn, neither of these aspects of her life are disparate; one informs the other. Take the prescient lyric “listen up, the whole world is in flux of a fever,” delivered to Jocelyn from above, six years before the pandemic. RATE BUSH! What are your most favorite and least-loved songs on Kate Bush's Hounds of Love? Three months before some very strange things catapulted Miss Bush into a new generation's consciousness, Sam had us sit down to dissect an album that most purists wouldn't dare break into separate parts. While Adam went overboard (groan) researching the second side's epic Ninth Wave song story, newbies Dan and Jim obliviously took it in like men with children in their eyes...or something.

Jed Yueh joins us on the Cloudbusting podcast this week to discuss his journey towards engineering disruption through his previous and current companies. He goes into describing a wide variety of scenarios to our listeners on what it takes to disrupt the digital space in a big way and how he's seen success using data. Using examples like TikTok, Snapchat and the like, he describes why these companies are so successful in their niche. Find out what it means for a company to be carbon negative and not just talk about sustainability but take action. It's no longer a trend to talk about the environment but time to take real action. Of course, we wrap up the episode with some really interesting and personable ten-second recommendations this week. Any guesses on the latest sport to take over America?

CROP CIRCLES & CLOUD BUSTING: weather manipulation, geoengineering, cloud seeding, chem trails, ley lines & more Hello, Eavesdroppers! What is going on this week? So much random stuff it's exploding our brains, so here's a little pick-n-mix of what's inside this week's Eavesdroppin' box of chocolates… Do you think that weather can be engineered? We thought NO, but it turns out it's been happening for A VERY LONG TIME. This week Geordie chats about weather modification, cloud seeding, biological warfare, the 2008 Olympic opening ceremony in China, rainmakers, geoengineering, Kate Bush, Wilhelm Reich and the orgasmatron, climate-change deniers and so much more. Michelle follows with a badly investigoogled natter about crop circles, hoaxers, how you can spot a man-made crop circle versus one made by aliens, ley lines, GEORGE W BUSH (not his dad!), SIGNS with Mel Gibson, time travellers, crop-circle hoaxers Doug Bower and Dave Chorley, Dr Horace Drew and more… What does it all mean? Is any of it real? We really have no clue but get Eavesdroppin' to hear ditties, Geordie say ‘poop circle' and 2 birds yakkin. Enjoy! Nesta edição do programa, Cleber Facchi (@cleberfacchi) e Carlos Botelho (@cinderelabaiana) relembram as histórias e o processo de criação do álbum que revelou músicas como "Running Up That Hill", "The Big Sky" e "Cloudbusting", e influenciou nomes como Björk, Florence + The Machine, Grimes, Solange e Prince.
One of the most controversial and downright confounding figures of 20th Century Science and Psychotherapy, was Wilhelm Reich. It was Reich's conjecture that he had discovered a powerful force that pervades not only all life here on earth, but also the cosmos as well. Reich called it Orgone, and it was the primary, sexual force of life. His views and research however has been met with obloquy and derision at every turn. In this episode, I am joined by Dan Lowe to go through the life and ideas of this oft maligned, yet fascinating figure.

Sometimes we just need to break through the clouds, ya’ll! ‘Ppreciate you for being part of TCLLT and tuning in to the wackiness of this show. So outstanding to have Laurel on the show this week. Many thanks to her for her time and her vulnerability. Laurel's latest album as Little Scream came out on Merge Records last fall. It's is called Speed Queen and it's fantastic. Check out the video for Dear Leader and tell me Laurel hasn't achieved her goal of making political art. While you're at it, you might want to listen to the final, recorded version of the Heron and the Fox which came out on the first Little Scream album The Golden Record. I think it's remarkable to hear the difference between the "skype-mic'd" demo and the final, lushly-produced (but still intimate) version. Thanks again to Laurel and Third Side Music for permission to use the demo.I'm going to fail miserably if I attempt to say anything new about the genius that is Patti Smith and her 1975 debut Horses. It's a landmark how about I stop at that? That said, I was pleased to read that Laurel's song pick from Horses, Birdland was based A Book of Dreams a childhood memoir of radical Austrian psychoanalyst Wilhelm Reich which was also the inspiration for my favourite Kate Bush song Cloudbusting. As always, I'd encourage you to listen to the whole track either before or after you listen to this weeks show (or both!) Even if Katie is glad she never has to do it again... Make sure you follow The Volume Knob on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook or at our website volumeknob.net.And if you have a story about the song that saved your life be sure to send it to me at volumeknobpod@gmail.com.

However, … Continue reading S05E15 – My Lagan Love
This week we're marching in time to the beat of the tender but urgent Cloudbusting. The second single from Hounds of Love and a UK Top 40 hit in late 1985, Cloudbusting is more than just an insanely catchy sing-a-long. There is an intriguing and strange backstory, touching lyrics, and….. Donald Sutherland? We have two … Continue reading S05E05 – Cloudbusting
