Mark and Pete, the Reverend and the Retailer tackle three stories that expose the strange priorities of our modern world — from comedy to catastrophe and cosmetic chaos. First, they salute the late Prunella Scales, Britain's beloved queen of sitcom wit, whose turn as Sybil Fawlty made her both feared and adored. Her death marks the passing of an age when women could be beautiful, brainy, and blisteringly funny all at once. Mark and Pete reflect on humour, holiness, and the grace of growing old with dignity. Next, they descend into the corporate turbulence of Boeing, now facing a five-billion-dollar penalty for missed deadlines and broken promises. What happens when engineering pride outruns integrity? Finally, they bare their teeth at Britain's booming black-market whitening trade, where peroxide-heavy gels are burning gums and blinding sense. The British Dental Association is appalled — and so are Mark and Pete. From laughter to litigation, the duo uncover the spiritual truth behind society's obsession with polish and performance. Whether in the cockpit, the boardroom, or the bathroom mirror, the message is clear: true faith outlasts false shine. Smart, sardonic, and spiritually charged — Mark and Pete find divine wisdom in the week's most ridiculous headlines.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/mark-and-pete--1245374/support.Supporters get updates on new projects and hot takes on the latest news plus Mark and Pete Extra in depth commentary episodes and Mark and Pete vs AI comedy episodes. Do all whitening gels work the same, or is the brand actually important? Are lights and in-office “power whitening” just marketing hype? And what's the deal with the infamous white diet - do your patients really need to give up coffee and red wine? In this episode, I sit down with Dr. Wyman Chan, the man who literally hung up his drills in 2002 to dedicate his career to whitening alone. With over 20,000 cases under his belt (and a PhD in the science behind it), Wyman shares his three golden rules for whitening success: trays, communication, and conscious bleaching. We're also joined by Dr. Niki Shah, who brings his own insights into whitening and patient care, making this a conversation packed with both science and clinical experience. Wyman introduces his latest invention—Magic 3, a fizzing gel that reveals and removes plaque while calming gums. Plus, Wyman busts some of the biggest whitening myths (sorry, “white diet”) and explains why he no longer bothers with internal bleaching. If you've ever wondered how to make whitening safer, more predictable, and less stressful for you and your patients—this is the episode you'll want to tune in for. Protrusive Dental Pearl Innovation in Hygiene with Magic 3 - What is Magic 3? A colorless plaque indicator gel developed by Wyman Chan. Fizzes on contact with plaque. Cleans teeth, removes superficial stains, and softens soft calculus. Clinical Application Alternative to scaling/polishing for routine patients. Nervous patients who dislike ultrasonic scalers. Children (6+) – safe as a Class I medical device. Orthodontic patients – helps prevent white spot lesions. Learn more at https://protrusive.co.uk/magic3 https://youtu.be/ImpHJP3Wxec Watch PDP245 on YouTube Key Takeaways: Teeth whitening success depends on tray design, formulation, technique, and compliance. Conscious bleaching helps minimise sensitivity. Sensitivity is due to peroxide reaching the pulp. Patients should adjust wear time gradually, starting short and increasing if comfortable. Communication and treatment planning are crucial to match whitening regimes with lifestyles. The “white diet” is not scientifically necessary - normal eating and drinking can resume within minutes. External bleaching alone can be effective, even for single dark teeth. Tetracycline-stained teeth can respond to whitening with the right protocols. The brand is less important than protocol consistency and clinician experience. In-office light-assisted whitening adds risk, cost, and chairside time without proven benefit. Allergic reactions are more likely caused by gel additives, not peroxide itself. Emerging products, such as peroxide-based gels for plaque disruption and gingival health, may complement whitening in the future. Dr. Iman Sadri has been a dentist for 17 years. He has a great passion for teeth whitening especially with the science of the Kor Whitening deep bleaching system. The only true system for teeth whitening that predictably whitens teeth. Dr. Sadri has noticed during the process of teeth whitening for his patients that their teeth and gums actually get cleaner with plaque reduction. Teeth whitening was inadvertently discovered when periodontists were working on formulations to break down plaque. They noticed that hydrogen peroxide in a gel form breaks down plaque and as a result, stains are also removed. So teeth whitening was discovered by chance in the 1950s. When patients whiten their teeth at home, the peroxide gel also breaks down plaque and some calculus. If the whitening trays touch at the crevice of the gumline the gel also breaks down plaque in those gum areas. However, whitening trays should be formulated so the whitening gel doesn't get too much on the gums and where saliva doesn't interfere with the gel during at home whitening. For around $3.00, you can have white teeth naturally with this teeth-whitening DIY recipe. In this video, I'll show you how to whiten teeth at home using 2 ingredients. There is a safe and effective way to get white teeth at home! You don't need to go to the dentist or purchase whitening strips for white teeth. Baking soda is nonabrasive and can be used to gently scrub your teeth to remove stains and plaque. You can combine baking soda with 3% hydrogen peroxide to whiten teeth at home. Combine 1 teaspoon of baking soda with 3 drops of 3% hydrogen peroxide and 8 drops of water. This mixture breaks the bonds of tooth stains, leaving you with whiter teeth. It's also beneficial for eliminating bacteria and reducing plaque formation. Use a toothbrush to gently polish your teeth with this paste for 1 to 2 minutes. Rinse your mouth thoroughly when you're finished. Do this 2 to 3 times per week for a few weeks for whiter teeth. Teeth whitening should be done gradually to avoid damaging the gums and tooth enamel. Oil pulling is an ancient practice that involves swishing oil in the mouth for 10 to 20 minutes. Coconut oil is great for oil pulling. It's high in lauric acid, a potent anti-microbial that is effective against bacteria, fungus, and candida. It also helps with bad breath. Research has found oil pulling to be as effective as prescription mouthwash against gingivitis. Vitamin C and glucose compete in the body. Bleeding gums are often caused by low vitamin C. If you consume a lot of sugar, glucose will block your vitamin C, which will show up in your gums.
Balding blues? Magic pills? Mouse juice? Michael Regilio untangles the hairy history of vanity products on this week's Skeptical Sunday! Welcome to Skeptical Sunday, a special edition of The Jordan Harbinger Show where Jordan and a guest break down a topic that you may have never thought about, open things up, and debunk common misconceptions. This time around, we’re joined by skeptic, comedian, and podcaster Michael Regilio! On This Week's Skeptical Sunday, We Discuss: Hair loss treatments have evolved from ancient Egyptian mouse-grinding adventures to modern pharmaceutical solutions like minoxidil and finasteride — though these modern miracles come with some rather unsettling side effects, from growing unwanted breasts to potentially losing interest in, well, everything. Vanity-boosting discoveries often happen through delightfully accidental means — minoxidil started as an ulcer medication, while finasteride's development stems from studying a fascinating genetic condition in a Dominican Republic village where some children experience dramatic physical changes at puberty. Collagen supplements, while sounding like a smoothie made from the entire barnyard, actually show promising results for skin elasticity and cardiovascular health — though their benefits for hair and nails remain unproven despite widespread marketing claims. Teeth whitening has a rather colorful history, from ancient Romans' creative use of public urine collections (yes, really) to modern peroxide-based treatments, which thankfully carry far fewer risks than their historical counterparts. The most empowering approach to appearance-related concerns might be the one suggested by an 18th-century British newspaper: the best cure for something like baldness is simply not being bothered by it. This mindset doesn't just save money and avoid side effects — it offers a path to genuine self-acceptance that no bottle, cream, or ground-up mouse could ever provide. Sometimes the most revolutionary thing we can do is simply rock what we've got. Connect with Jordan on Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube. If you have something you'd like us to tackle here on Skeptical Sunday, drop Jordan a line at jordan@jordanharbinger.com and let him know!
