Listen to our archived episodes: RadioPublic|LibSyn|YouTube Support the show: Patreon|PayPal: 1x or monthly|Square Cash * We rely on David Waldman to follow the news wherever it takes him to supply us important information to bring into our day. You won't believe where he had to go today. Veronica Wolski, who would record herself wearing a face mask (No, a “Zorro” mask, lol) to torment store employees and bring joy to her QAnon viewers, has died of Covid. Lin Wood says that's just like Herman Cain, and he's right. It is hard to keep up with all the anti-vaxers getting their ticket punched lately, although that pastor who mocked AIDS deaths really earned his. The GQP comes out against all vaccine…”mandates”… (wink!) Now those douche-gargling vaccine deniers are (reads notes) gargling douches! Nicki Minaj has almost completed the required epidemiologic research to be able to competently advise her 22 million Twitter followers. Nicki checked with her cousin's friend in Trinidad and now has concerns about the size of his testicles. Minaj fan Dr. Raven the Science Maven describes how vaccines work to save your body-ody-ody-ody-ody-ody-ody-ody-ody-ody-ody-ody-ody-ody-ody (Mwah!) Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez went to the Met Gala, offending those who want her to stick to sackcloth and Mao tunics. Everyone pulls out their rulebooks and highlighters. Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney worked very hard on her dress, let's give her a hand. The people most in fear of people of color end up being those most in fear about “critical race theory”. In California, Gavin Newsom is probably going to win, Larry Elder is definitely going to whine, but we won't know until it's over, and they fix their dumb system. In DC, Republicans root for Manchin and Sinema to screw everything up, but quietly, because no one wants to be seen with Manchin and Sinema. A bad guy with a gun might have thought, in some QAnon sort of way, that he was a “good guy” when he tortured and killed a family, including a 3 month old and the family dog, while “interrogating” them to rescue a girl he had only imagined existed. Ed Henry sued Fox News for firing him for sex trafficking, harassment, revenge porn, sexual assault and rape, but apparently handcuffing his victim and threatening her did not sit well with the judge. Six officers might be reprimanded for playing for the wrong team January 6th.

Listen to our archived episodes: RadioPublic|LibSyn|YouTube Support the show: Patreon|PayPal: 1x or monthly|Square Cash * Winner, winner, chicken dinner!  That's the yearly Waldman family tradition David goes out of his way to honor, therefore, just as he went out of his way last year, he's out of his way this year, also. Here, let me sum up what I said previously: David Waldman is out, but not out of stories to share! David couldn't bear to leave us empty-eared, so he burned the afternoon oil at KITM World Headquarters to produce a special pre-recorded show for today! Do you reside in a city with a federal building or property, maybe a post office? Do you disagree with Donald Trump's handling of… anything? Are you insufficiently loyal? Then, you might be excited to hear that Ken Cuccinelli has a van with your name on it. Actually, the van has no name on it, and the guys climbing out will be masked with no identification, all adding to the excitement for everyone. Even if you are the shy, retiring type, Q-shirt volunteers will have their ears to the ground in every neighborhood, trained to root out baby cannibals like you and me. The whole operation isn't quite up to Russian standards as yet, but that ambition is certainly present here, today. Democratic leaders are asking the FBI for an urgent briefing on members of Congress being targeted by a foreign operation, employing known tool Ron Johnson. Before you are disappeared, you might want to first consider whether or not you want to send your child into one of the largest unregulated experiments ever conducted. If you are rich... well, there's a lot of things you don't have to consider, because if public schools aren't private enough for you, and neither are private schools, there'll always be your money to fix things. If you are medium-rich, you still have online learning, sort of. If your child is not white, that might lead to jail, however. Ritchie Torres is not white. In fact, he is expected to be the first openly gay Afro-Latino man in Congress. Congress is literally not ready for someone both Black and Latinx, as Torres can't join both the Black and Hispanic caucuses. You knew that Ailes and O'Reilly weren't the end of it over at Fox News. Maybe, soon, the rape and sexual violence there will taper off, now that there's a lawsuit on Ed Henry for rape and the current top talent on harassment. With those guys gone, it will cut in half the security demands for the Republican convention.

Is War With Iran In Our Future? As Tensions Rise What Do You Think Trump's Next Move Should Be?Iran-US tension rises as Pentagon OKs sending more troops to Middle East and Rep. Omar blames TrumpRep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn, one of Congress' most vocal critics of President Trump, placed the blame squarely on the White House after Iran announced it could enrich uranium up to 20 percent -- just a step below weapons-grade level. Omar took to Twitter on Monday condemning Trump's decision to pull out of the Iran nuclear deal shortly before the Pentagon approved sending 1,000 more troops to the Middle East in response to the attack."None of this would be happening if Trump didn't back out of the Iran nuclear deal," she tweeted. Omar said the U.S. should get back to negotiations with Tehran and reinstate the Iran nuclear deal. The tension between the U.S. and Iran has been increasing in recent days after a high-profile attack on two oil tankers in the Strait of Hormuz. The U.S. blamed Iran for the attacks, which the country denied. U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) released new images Monday showing the aftermath of attacks, including some images purporting to show Iranian forces removing an unexploded device from the hull of one of the vessels.Trump threatens to remove 'millions' of illegal immigrants starting next weekPresident Trump late Monday announced on Twitter that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) will begin the process of "removing the millions of illegal aliens who have illicitly found their way into the U.S.," but did not elaborate on what new measures will be taken. "They will be removed as fast as they come," Trump wrote. Mike Morgan, the acting director of ICE, did not announce any new initiatives during his stop in Louisville on Sunday, where he spoke about the humanitarian and national security crisis at the border.Trump re-election campaign set to officially launch at Orlando rallyPresident Trump is expected to officially kick off his re-election campaign at a rally in Orlando, Fla. Tuesday night, and supporters have been lining up for days. The special election in Pennsylvania’s 18th district remains somewhat unsettled. The New York Times officially called the election for Democratic candidate Conor Lamb, who leads Republican candidate Rick Saccone by mere hundreds of votes. Many in the GOP, including House Speaker Paul Ryan, said Lamb won because he ran more like a Republican than a Democrat and that Dems won't be able to replicate Lamb’s strategy nationally in November. Ed Henry, chief national correspondent for Fox News, discusses why Conor Lamb's expected win in PA-18 represents a challenging rift for House Democrats and the party at large. Career counterintelligence officer Malcolm Nance explains the severity of the Russian-orchestrated nerve agent attack in the United Kingdom and his frustration with President Trump continuing to downplay such aggressive and egregious Russian behavior.

We shared a glorious hour with Jim Vance, with lots of laughs and a new awareness of his impact on Our Town. We went to his memorial service at the National Cathedral with thousands of others who loved Jim. There will never be another Jim Vance." Janice and Andy Ockershausen,, in studio Our Town DC Podcast Andy Ockershausen: This is Andy Ockershausen, and this is Our Town. It's hard to believe that Season 2 is complete. We've had some great guests over the last 20 weeks. Our Town started with a bang at a launch party at Tony and Joe's on May 23rd. Our guests included Jim Vance. We were in the unique position of interviewing Jim before the news broke of his terminal cancer. We shared a glorious hour with Jim Vance, with lots of laughs and a new awareness of his impact on Our Town. We went to his memorial service at the National Cathedral with thousands of others who loved Jim. There will never be another Jim Vance. During Season 2, we spoke to so many friends, including members of Congress, sports heroes, university presidents, newspaper and magazine publishers, writers, famous attorneys, some unfamous attorneys also, restaurateurs, and community organizers. If you name it, we didn't miss many. We stayed live and lively as much as we could. Some of the names included Chris Plante from WMAL, Tommy McFly from other stations, Connie Morella, a former Congresswoman and a very dear friend of WMAL over the year, Kathleen Matthews, an ex-WMAL and WMAL-TV employee who worked in our newsroom as the erstwhile Kathy Cunningham. How about that? Joe diGenova, United States Attorney for the District of Columbia, Pat Collins, a great reporter who's still very active with Channel 4, a very, very dear friend. Mark Ein, the man that put tennis into a proper perspective who had the only championship team in the last like 30 years. His team won the tennis championship five or six years in a row. Mark is a great citizen and a great part of our community. The tennis team has been great. James Brown, old JB, a local guy, Dematha High School. James Brown is an icon in our business and a great friend. Thank you for having him in Our Town regularly. Rick "Doc" Walker, Janice referred to him ... I always thought his middle name was Doc. She has called him Rick "Doc" Walker for years, but he's got that nickname, "Doctor." But Rick is a very, very important part of our lives because of what he's meant to WMAL over the years. Now he's over on the broadcast team for the great Washington Redskins team. Then we've had the pleasure of having the number one announcer, a news guy for Fox, Ed Henry, who was so huge during the election with his reporting. Ed has become a great friend of WMAL. Then last but not least of the big names, I think a big name, the owner of the Washington Post who sold it. Donald Graham sold the Post to Bezos, and Donald started his second life as an entrepreneur and businessman. He's done so well, and he loves Our Town. He thought that by doing it, of selling to Bezos, it would put a new life into the Post. And I'm sure it did. They're doing so well. We've already begun recording for Season 3, and we've got some interesting guests lined up, including Tony Zeiss, president of the new Museum of the Bible, a multi-media, two block building of over 420,000 square feet of exhibit space, costing over $500 million. It's brand new to Our Town. It's opening in mid-November. We also have the opening of the Wharf. The Wharf opened here in September. In a $2 billion effort to redo the Washington downtown, and the Washington Wharf is going to be in our subject. And we're going to talk about it. We'll hear about that in many ways, and one of them is going to be traffic. Traffic is going to be horrendous, but it is anyway,

Ed Henry on the story that was the impetus for the title "42 Faith" ~ "It's a lesson for all of us, and that's why we call it 42 Faith. It wasn't just Jackie's faith, Branch Rickey's faith, I think a lot of these players on the Dodgers had remarkable faith." Ed Henry - Author, 42 Faith: The Rest of the Jackie Robinson Story A Ockershausen: A friend in need is a friend in deed, and this man is a friend. He used to be a fresh faced kid, he made a huge impact on Our Town. He's not fresh faced anymore. Ed Henry: Wow. A Ockershausen: Ed Henry is a transplant from Queens, New York. Ed Henry: Mm-hmm. A Ockershausen: Came to Washington as a journalist, to work for Jack Anderson. Ed Henry: That's right. A Ockershausen: How about that! He's another success story who found his way to WMAL radio. Providing political insight into a morning show. We had a morning show here called Harden and Weaver, it's not with us anymore. He worked with Chris Core, and Chris Plante. In fact, he worked everywhere from Roll Call to the Washingtonian, to CNN, Fox News, he's covered the Hill, the White House. He's covered some incredible national news stories. And the main news himself, with a fabulous new book about Jackie Robinson. Please welcome Ed Henry to Our Town. 42 Faith: The Rest of the Jackie Robinson Story by Ed HenryEd Henry: Thanks for having me! The book's called 42 Faith and you told me you had a little story about Jackie Robinson. Weren't you walking through National Airport? A Ockershausen: No. Ed Henry: When he- A Ockershausen: I had invited Howard down to be the ... Howard Cosell and Jackie Robinson Ed Henry: Howard Cosell. A Ockershausen: To be a ... Cosell, he's ... There's only one Howard. Ed Henry: There's only one Howard to you. Like Frank ... A Ockershausen: Everyone else didn't get to meet him. Whenever ever I say, JB who's sat right in that chair. You know JB, you know . . . Ed Henry: I know JB. A Ockershausen: He's our guy. Well, Howard and I . . . I had to pick him up at the airport, and when he got in, this is before cellphones. This must have been in the early 70S. Ed Henry: 1972 72. A Ockershausen: He got a phone call, somebody at the gate gave him this message, he had to make a phone call. He had to call Rachel Robinson, that Jackie had died. Ed Henry: Yeah, October 1972. He was only 53 years old. A Ockershausen: That is incredible, but to be there, to be part of history when he got that message. He had been close to him, he used to ride the train with him. I didn't know that they lived up at Pound Ridge, or some place. Ed Henry: Yeah, it's amazing what, we get into all these different layers of this story but, the old Brooklyn Dodgers of the forties and fifties, they used to take the subway to Ebbets Field. I mean, you think about now, these players who make 150, 250 million Bryce Harper, here in Washington is talking about his next deal being over $400 million, almost half a billion dollars, for a baseball player. Are they worth it? Are they not worth it? It'll be a bar room argument for a long time, but these players didn't make a whole lot of money, even if they were world famous. A Ockershausen: Howard’s point, . . Jackie rode the train. Ed Henry: Yeah. A Ockershausen: Because he rode the train. Going home to Pound Ridge or some place and he met Rachel and the family. Dodgers, Flatbush and Stickball Ed Henry: One of the characters in my book is Jerry Reinsdorf because he's the owner of the Chicago White Sox and the Chicago Bulls, he became famous in Chicago but he grew up in Flatbush. And he played stickball with Duke Snider. You know Willie, Mickey and the Duke? Could you imagine playing stickball now with Jason Werth or Ryan Zimmerman, I mean, I know Ryan but you don't play stickball in the street, a 10 year old kid doesn't play stickball with Duke Snider. But Duke Snider lived in a little apartment in Flatbush and took the subway to Ebbets Field.
