Jesus Ministries, Joan Boney ... Genesis 39 1 And Joseph was brought down to Egypt; and Potiphar, an officer of Pharaoh, captain of the guard, an Egyptian, bought him of the hands of the Ishmeelites, which had brought him down thither. 2 And the LORD was with Joseph, and he was a prosperous man; and he was in the house of his master the Egyptian. 3 And his master saw that the LORD was with him, and that the LORD made all that he did to prosper in his hand. 4 And Joseph found grace in his sight, and he served him: and he made him overseer over his house, and all that he (Potiphar, the captain of the guard) had he put into his (Joseph's) hand.
March 19, 2024 Today's Reading: Matthew 2:13-15, 19-23Daily Lectionary: Exodus 2:23-3:22, Mark 14:53-72And [Joseph] rose and took the child and his mother by night and departed to Egypt and remained there until the death of Herod. This was to fulfill what the Lord had spoken by the prophet, “Out of Egypt I called my Son.” (Matthew 2:14-15)In the Name + of Jesus. Amen. Is it too much to say that fathers are important, that fathers matter, that there is a difference between men and women, and a distinction to be made between the role they play in raising children and nurturing the next generation? Not too long ago all of that would have been simple and easy to proclaim, almost as if it is woven into the fabric of God's good nature. But times change, things get weird, people go a little bonkers and so perhaps it is good to take the time to think about these things every once and awhile. So are fathers important? God certainly seems to think they are. So much so, that He made sure that His Son had a defender, a protector, a guardian. And this great champion of Jesus, this guardian of Christ, was none other than Joseph: a devout and merciful man who before the visit from the angel had decided to divorce his betrothed in private so that the crowds wouldn't smash her head with rocks until she and the baby inside of her were dead. And so I suppose it says something about the nature of fathers that our Heavenly Father made sure His Son had an earthly father, not a second mother, not a family friend, not a bigger brother or a kindly uncle, but a father. And in our text for today Joseph fulfills one of the most important duties of the vocation of fatherhood, and that is to protect his children. So down to Egypt Joseph races with his bride and his son, all so that the prophet Hosea could be fulfilled, all so that Jesus didn't die in the streets of Bethlehem at the hands of Herod. God provided His Son an earthly father so that Joseph could make sure that Jesus made it to the cross. … I know that seems weird, but how else could we look at it? Jesus needed to fulfill the Law in our stead and then die as a sacrifice on the cross for our forgiveness and our Heavenly Father partly used Jesus' earthly father to accomplish that. … So let us give thanks to our Heavenly Father for Joseph, the Guardian of our Lord.In the Name + of Jesus. Amen.We sing our thanks for Joseph, The guardian of our Lord, Who faithfully taught Jesus Through craft and deed and word. Grant wisdom, Lord, and patience To parents ev'rywhere Who guide and teach the children Entrusted to their care (LSB 517:14)-Pastor Eli Lietzau is pastor of Wheat Ridge Evangelical Lutheran Church in Wheat Ridge, Colorado.Audio Reflections Speaker: Pastor Jonathan Lackey is the pastor at Grace Lutheran Church, Vine Grove, Ky.Unforgivable? Unforgiveness is a prison—mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. In a world full of turmoil, many use forgiveness as a coping mechanism without understanding what true forgiveness is. Learn what forgiveness from Christ looks like, and how He forgives His people.

The last part of our Neuroqueer nerd indulgence. We talk about trauma, family, reconsiliation... sounds fun, right?? Timestamps: 0:00 - Summary of the previous two parts 2:00 - How Joseph's brothers and father are suffering during the famine; they'd rejected the neuroqueer gifts that could have saved them 5:35 - Joseph forced to face their past trauma. Punitive vs. restorative justice — the latter requires a shift in power dynamics, security for the wronged 27:10 - Second trip to Egypt: Joseph continues to test the brothers to see if they've truly changed; struggles to hold it together while closeted / masking 35:15 - Joseph comes out, reveals their identity to their brothers. What prevented the brothers from recognizing them? 39:47 - What to make of Joseph's understanding of “God's plan”: Joseph takes control of his own narrative, sees how God transforms suffering into good. Celebrating the good that comes out of evil without justifying evil 50:20 - Even in reconciling, Joseph never goes home, back to the site of that first trauma & to dynamics where their brothers hold the power over them — connecting to church efforts to become truly inclusive 55:55 - not a tidy ending: relationship will never be the same; brothers struggle to believe Joseph doesn't want revenge. “None of us has to be the slave!” 1:00:30 - the oppressed can offer oppressors insights about themselves; double consciousness & masking — the Autistic community's debt to Black scholarship 1:05:35 - Joseph as a bicultural figure; both cultures associated both with home & trauma 1:07:58 - Jacob gives the primary blessing to Joseph's second son: continuing the trend of subverting status quo. God always on the side of the marginalized 1:14:55 - Wrapping up

Rev. Dr. Vance Rains continues the story through the Bible. This week we find ourselves in Egypt and the story of Joseph. Genesis 45:4-8 Giving: www.firstchurchorlando.org/give
We can see that the 7 days of creation is a prophecy of 7,000 years of time. The last 1,000 years is called the Messianic era. The Messianic era is called the “Day of the LORD”. The Day of the LORD is the prophetic Sabbath of creation. The Messianic era is a Sabbath rest for the earth. Yeshua will teach the Torah to all nations during the Messianic Era. Yeshua made a covenant with Abraham. Later, the children of Israel go down to Egypt (Joseph’s family). The children of Israel then go into bondage and slavery in Egypt. They then cry out to the God of Israel in their bondage: And it came to pass in process of time, that the king of Egypt died: and the children of Israel sighed by reason of the bondage, and they cried, and their cry came up unto God by reason of the bondage. Exodus 2:23 The God of Israel sends a deliverer, Moses: Now therefore, behold, the cry of the children of Israel is come unto me: and I have also seen the oppression wherewith the Egyptians oppress them.Come now therefore, and I will send thee unto Pharaoh, that you may bring forth my people the children of Israel out of Egypt. Exodus 3:9-10 Moses then tells Pharoah to “let my people go!” The nation of Israel was saved by faith through grace. After they were redeemed and saved, they came to Mt Sinai. It was the house of Jacob who met with God at Mt Sinai. Are these teachings a blessing to you? The Book of Jubilees 42-43: The Sons of Jacob Go To Egypt; Joseph Test His Brothers by Shawn Ozbun
Scripture:Genesis 41:33-36 - Now therefore let Pharaoh look out a man discreet and wise, and set him over the land of Egypt. Let Pharaoh do this, and let him appoint officers over the land, and take up the fifth part of the land of Egypt in the seven plenteous years. And let them gather all the food of those good years that come, and lay up corn under the hand of Pharaoh, and let them keep food in the cities. And that food shall be for store to the land against the seven years of famine, which shall be in the land of Egypt; that the land perish not through the famine.Transcript:And now, Admonition, brought to you by the Collierville Church of Christ.Sometimes we have a problem with living in excess. We use and consume far more than what we actually need. That happened in Egypt. That happened when they experienced in Egypt the seven years of plenty that God promised them in the dream that Pharaoh had. Because God said through Joseph in his advice, his wisdom to Pharaoh, you set aside one-fifth of all that is brought in during the years of plenty. And so they did. And when they set aside 20% do you know how much they brought in? They brought in so much, they set aside so much, just 20% mind you that they stopped counting how much it was. They brought in enough to feed the whole country for seven years, but in the seven years prior, they consumed four times that amount. Let's be careful about what we think we need as opposed to what God has blessed us with. For more from the Collierville Church of Christ, visit www.Colliervillecoc.org.
Today on the podcast we discuss Joseph in Egypt and how he becomes a house jew 3 times. Some woman tries to violate him and we end on his brothers starting to travel to Egypt. So first Joseph is being solid to the head guard guy in Egypt. He was put in charge of the entire place because God was with him. Well, the wife some of that Hebrew wood and he wouldn't give it up. She cries that he violated her and he was promptly thrown into the jail. While in Jail he was put in charge of the whole place because God was with him. He interpreted dreams of a couple of prisoners that were close to Pharaoh. It eventually paid off. A couple years after the dream interpretations, it came up that Pharaoh needed some dream interpreting. Joseph interprets his dreams and basically comes to rule Egypt.
