Memorial Day is typically the time when you can throw out the "it's early" caveats, and thus far ... the Brewers don't look the part of a playoff team, even after a 4-3 week. Brewers reporter Curt Hogg and host JR Radcliffe examine whether or not the team's struggling bats turned a corner this week in Pittsburgh, but much of the discussion focuses on Pat Murphy's deployment of his bullpen arms and how that's holding back the team's ability to win games. Brandon Woodruff is still working through his rehab, Jacob Misiorowski is still in Nashville and was this a Caleb Durbin breakthrough? In Three Up, Three Down (43:40), they talk Brice Turang's defense, Rhys Hoskins' dance moves and huge performances from Logan Henderson and Carlos Rodriguez. Remember When (1:03:00) goes waaay back for a Milwaukee connection to Pete Rose's reinstatement. Curt Blanche (1:12:00) is ready for a tweak to roster rules. Then, JR sits down with Brewers utility man Isaac Collins (1:17:30) to discuss his Minnesota roots and his former high-school teammate, eventual Wisconsin Badgers basketball standout Brad Davison. Plus, how sweet was his first big-league hit against the team that drafted him? Music intro from bensound.com. Musical cues (in order): "I Got What You Want" (Extended Version) by Gloria Tells, "Arriving at Dusk" by American Legion and "Screaming Fool" by Andreas Dahlback, all from www.epidemicsound.com.

Milwaukee went 3-3 out west and got some encouraging performances from its patchwork starting rotation, so that's good news, right? Bullpen struggles played a role in all three losses, especially for Joel Payamps, and a 4-0 lead lost in the ninth Saturday looms large. Brewers reporter Curt Hogg and host JR Radcliffe discuss the bullpen and whether personnel moves are called for. Are we closer to Craig Yoho? They revisit the early-week trade for Quinn Priester and whether or not it was too high a price, plus the other roster move in December that looms over everything. The rotation got lots of good news, including the debut of Jose Quintana, a credible debut for Priester and yet another strong showing by Chad Patrick. Brice Turang just keeps hitting the ball hard and William Contreras may have turned a corner, but what about Rhys Hoskins, Joey Ortiz and Christian Yelich? In Three Up, Three Down (37:20), Tyler Alexander makes a circus catch and Jackson Chourio is chasing a weird bit of Brewers history. In Remembrew When (47:50), we visit one of the many Quintana outings against the Brewers, and Curt Blanche (55:10) has a spicy video-game take. Then, JR sits down with Jake Bauers (59:15), Brewers first baseman, to discuss his path to the big leagues, how seriously he takes his unconventional role as mop-up pitcher and his memories of last year's dramatic playoff homer ... and why he thinks it's a springboard into this season. Music intro from bensound.com. Musical cues (in order): "I Got What You Want" (Extended Version) by Gloria Tells, "Arriving at Dusk" by American Legion and "Screaming Fool" by Andreas Dahlback, all from www.epidemicsound.com.
The guys review the series in Colorado, the current state of the starting rotation, and Brice Turang's newfound power. Spencer also gives his thoughts on the first full week of minor-league baseball.
Brewers writer and podcast host Jack Stern joins Dan to discuss Brice Turang, bullpen pitching, Quinn Preester, and more! #Brewers #MilwaukeeBrewers See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Balky is joined by Brew Crew Ball and Reviewing the Brew's Paul Dietrich to discuss Brice Turang, Quinn Priester's Crew debut and more Milwaukee Brewers talk. The GyroStep Podcast from the GyroStep Podcast Network co-host Ti Windisch also drops by to share his thoughts on what should be the new starting lineup for the Milwaukee Bucks. Then, B.J. DeGroot, Leo Kiper, Jr., Wes Karcheski from Niemuth's Southside Market and Leo Kiper Jr. share a Tailgate Talk and play "Niemuth's Craft Beer or Indie Band?" as well.
The Milwaukee Brewers young players are carrying the team right now. Sal Frelick, Brice Turang, and Jackson Chourio are carrying the Brewers offense while Yelich, Contreras, and Hoskins find their offense. I also ripped into the Pirates management for some choices they have made during the course of the past week. and finally, Giannis is the MVP. This is a public episode. The Brewers had a great week, particularly because they racked up wins with unexpected starters on the mound after a crazy rash of pitching injuries. Add Nestor Cortes to the list of missing starters, and a roster quirk has the Brewers essentially locked in to the guys currently on the roster for the upcoming series in Colorado. Brewers reporter Curt Hogg and host JR Radcliffe discuss the options on the table to survive the pitching shortage, the unlikely performances of Chad Patrick and Tyler Alexander, the struggles of key offensive players and the highly promising signs from Brice Turang. Three Up, Three Down includes plenty of bunting discourse, Remembrew When looks back at a game that went from unlikely no-hitter to shocking nail-biter and Curt Blanche focuses on another major sporting event this week. Then, JR chats with Patrick, the late-spring roster addition who now has worked 10 innings as a starter and allowed only one run. They discuss his Indiana roots, his successful turn in 2024 and the forces that landed him a spot on this year's roster. Music intro from bensound.com. The Cincinnati Reds recently wrapped up a four-game series against the Milwaukee Brewers, concluding on April 6, 2025, with a challenging start to their 2025 season. The Reds entered the series with a 2-4 record from their opening homestand and hoped to turn things around on the road. However, they dropped three of the four games to the Brewers, finishing the series with a 3-7 overall record and losing all three series to begin the year. The series opened on April 3 with a 1-0 loss, extending a troubling trend of low-scoring games for Cincinnati. The Reds' offense struggled mightily, managing just one run across their previous 35 innings. On April 4, they broke their scoreless streak in a 3-2 defeat, with Christian Encarnacion-Strand and Jeimer Candelario driving in runs late, but it wasn't enough to overcome Milwaukee's early lead, powered by Brice Turang's two-run homer. A bright spot came on April 5, when the Reds erupted for an 11-7 victory, snapping a four-game skid. TJ Friedl led the charge, going 4-for-5 with a homer, joined by Blake Dunn, Encarnacion-Strand, and Jose Trevino, who also went deep. Brady Singer earned the win despite allowing five runs. The series closed on April 6 with an 8-2 loss, as the Brewers capitalized on Cincinnati's pitching and defensive miscues, sealing the Reds' fate in the set. It's been a rocky 3-7 opening. They began at home with a six-game stand against the San Francisco Giants and Texas Rangers, splitting the Giants series (1-2) and taking one of three from the Rangers, highlighted by a 14-3 rout on March 31, driven by Elly De La Cruz's seven-RBI performance. However, consecutive 1-0 losses to Texas exposed offensive woes that persisted into Milwaukee. Pitching has been a strength—Hunter Greene and Singer have shone—but the bats have been inconsistent, scoring heavily in wins but vanishing in losses. With a tough stretch ahead, including a rematch with the Giants in San Francisco, the Reds, under new manager Terry Francona, must find offensive rhythm to climb out of the NL Central's fourth-place spot and reverse their 22-8 deficit against Milwaukee over the last 30 meetings.
Jack and Spencer discuss Brandon Woodruff's first MLB spring training outing, Brice Turang's short-lived stint as the shortstop, Bryan Hudson's evolving repertoire, their Opening Day roster prediction, and much more!
Brewers reporter Curt Hogg and host JR Radcliffe discuss the injury situation in camp for the Milwaukee Brewers, including an oblique that's going to sideline starter Tobias Myers and a shoulder issue for Brice Turang. Does that change the shape of the roster? Who's going to start games for Milwaukee? On the bright side, several players are absolutely mashing, including Jackson Chourio, Christian Yelich and Rhys Hoskins. What was Curt's impressions of the young prospects on hand in the Spring Breakout game? Then JR is joined by sports business reporter John Ourand of Puck, formerly of the Sports Business Journal, to discuss the Brewers' television situation with FanDuel Sports Wisconsin. What does it mean that the team went back to FanDuel after agreeing to let Major League Baseball produce their games? What's the long term future of Brewers broadcasting? Will MLB ever reclaim streaming rights for all of its teams?

We've reached the end of 162 games and the Milwaukee Brewers won 93 of them. How ... is that possible? Milwaukee Journal Sentinel writer Curt Hogg and host JR Radcliffe look at the final week of the season, but mostly look ahead to an unusual circumstance, where the playoff opponent is unclear until Monday's makeup games. The Brewers will begin postseason play at home Tuesday against either New York or Arizona, at least we know that much. Which team is the better matchup? How big of a loss is Sal Frelick after an injury over the weekend? Is there any fleeting possibility that Willy Adames returns next year? What other postseason roster decisions are still top of mind, including Bryan Hudson? In Three Up Three Down, Brice Turang reaches 50 steals, Freddy Peralta hits a milestone and a home-plate umpire gets caught on a hot mic. Remembrew When pays homage to the rando succeeding in the postseason, and Curt Blanche provides a grateful end to the 2024 regular season. Musical cues (in order of use): "Strobes" by Epocha, "Ricketts Glenn" by Roy Williams and "Rock is Back" by Got Happy. Royalty-free music available at EpidemicSound.com.
Mark Simon of Sports Info Solutions joins Wisconsin Sports Daily to discuss Brice Turang and Sal Frelick grading out as some of the best defenders in the league and how the outfield as a whole has been one of the most reliable groups in the MLB.

On this episode, host Mark Simon (@markasimonsays) is joined by Giants right fielder Mike Yastrzemski (@mikeyaz18) and Brewers broadcaster Vinny Rottino (@vinnyrottino) for a pair of discussions on defensive excellence. Mark was also joined by his SIS colleague Noah Gatsik (@iamthatnoah).Mark and Mike talked about Yaz's love of defenses from his days as a little kid using the sofa to mimic an outfield fence to the challenges of playing Triples Alley at Oracle Park. Mike also talked about his open-mindedness to learning and how that helped him pick up Jung Hoo Lee's throwing technique.Mark and Vinny went through the Brewers' defensive studs, looking at what makes players like Brice Turang, Blake Perkins, Sal Frelick, and Joey Ortiz so good. Vinny also talked about his favorite jack-of-all-trades major leaguer. And then Mark and Noah talked about scouting and the lessons Noah picked up from a conversation with Barry Larkin and how he's never watched infield play the same way again.Be sure to check out "How Mike Yastrzemski owns the outfield" with Mike and Hunter Pence on the Giants YouTube page.Thank you for listening. Inspired by Daulton Varsho, Jeff Erickson and Fred Zinkie review which players are better in real life than fantasy, and which players are better in fantasy in real life, and try to find some underlying trends. --- 00:00 - Fred Pod 9-2 01:00 - Daulton Varsho comment from Sunday night. 02:15 - Varsho isn't a good real-life hitter, but he's been decent for fantasy this year ($8) and hit .281 with 18 runs and four homers in August. 04:50 - Players who were better in real life than fantasy this year. 05:00 - Bryce Harper. 11th in OPS but just a $22 player. He will hit 30 homers, but without many steals and his batting average is more good than great. 10:00 - Freddie Freeman. 14th in OPS but a $20 player. He may not reach 25 homers or 10 steals. Hitting .285, which is fine but not special. 17:00 - Riley Greene. 20th in OPS. But hitting .259 with 20 homers and 4 steals. Missed a bit of time, but his R/RBI aren't great either. An $11 player. 22:15 - Popular opinion is that J.D. Martinez has been very good for the Mets. It's true. He has a .777 OPS. But he has generated just $4 in fantasy. Just 16 HR, 0 SB, 108 R+RBI. 29:00 - Orioles talk - Jackson Holliday, Coby Mayo 32:00 - Better in fantasy than real life. 32:20 - Maikel Garcia is second last in OPS. Has generated $17 in fantasy. The 33 steals and 83 runs scored are pretty awesome. 35:15 - Jacob Young is a poor man's version of Garcia. Eighth worst OPS but a $9 player thanks to hitting .258 with 31 steals and 69 runs. He's one of baseball's worst hitters but is helping fantasy teams in 3/5 categories. 38:35 - Zack Gelof has the 4th worst OBP of any qualified player. He also has 16 HR and 20 SB. A $4 player so far. 42:30 - Christopher Morel is batting .196 while somehow generating $3 in fantasy value. That's what 21 homers and 8 steals will do for you. 44:25 - Brice Turang has sunk to 13th worst in OPS but has generated $18 in fantasy production thanks to seven homers and 40 steals. Almost as valuable as Freeman. 46:15: - Firing up Julio Rodriguez, who's next? 47:00: - Alexis Diaz 52:25 - Good News for the Padres: Yu Darvish may return Wednesday; Joe Musgrove had a great start against the Tigers; Tatis is back. --- Pick6 Download the new DraftKings Pick Six app and use code RWPICKS. The Brewers were looking to beat the Reds for the fourth straight game and it looked promising after five. Willy Adames hot his fourth home run in as many games in the fourth inning to tie the game at 2 and then Brice Turang drove in Joey Ortiz in the top of the fifth inning to give the Brewers a 3-2 lead. The lead wouldn't last long as the Reds tied it in the bottom of the fifth and it stayed 3-3 until the bottom of the eleventh inning when Santiago Espinal drove in the winning run with a infield single. Dominic Cotroneo discussed the game in Brewers Extra Innings and went over your texts.
Curt Hogg and JR Radcliffe discuss the Milwaukee Brewers' tough weekend and the losses of key players Christian Yelich and Bryan Hudson. Does this change what they're going to do at Tuesday's trade deadline? Who are some names to know? Plus: Ryan Braun gets honored at American Family Field, putting a bow (maybe?) on a complicated career. Devin Williams is back, Brice Turang and Joey Ortiz are struggling offensively and the Brewers, after all, are still a first-place team. Remembrew When looks back at a big-time Braun moment and the complicated feelings that his legacy leaves. Three Up, Three Down includes some draft signings, defensive wizardry by Brice Turang and Rhys Hoskins with a big weekend. Musical cues (in order of use): "Strobes" by Epocha, "Ricketts Glenn" by Roy Williams and "Rock is Back" by Got Happy. Royalty-free music available at EpidemicSound.com.

Brewers reporter Curt Hogg and host JR Radcliffe look back at a shaky west-coast trip to Colorado and Los Angeles, which nonetheless ended with a salvageable 3-4 record. But how was Brice Turang not elected to the National League all-star team? The guys have thoughts on player balloting and the recent hiccups by a tired bullpen, plus the full-fledged resurgence of all-star starter Christian Yelich and the work by new pitchers Aaron Civale and Dallas Keuchel. In Three Up, Three Down, it's yet ANOTHER grand slam, a controversial bunt play, a 55-pitch inning and Bryan Hudson's recent struggles. Remembrew When looks back at another unflattering chapter Brewers-Dodgers history, and Curt's Take of the Week is back talking about a Dodger Stadium staple. Then, JR sits down with relief pitcher Trevor Megill, enjoying a breakout season at the back end of the Brewers rotation. They discuss the role water polo and rowing played in his life story, his scary injuries this year and how he arrived at a comfortable place in his career. The Milwaukee Brewers finish a highlight-heavy homestand at 5-1, sweeping the reigning World Series champion Rangers and taking 2 of 3 from the Cubs. An unprecedented grand-slam binge has the Brewers playing an exciting brand of baseball. Host JR Radcliffe and Journal Sentinel Brewers reporter Todd Rosiak look back at the successful run, including more great stuff from Jackson Chourio, a truly elite first half of the season from Brice Turang, the long-awaited return of Garrett Mitchell, the surprising arrival of Dallas Keuchel and an injury to Jared Koenig. Three Up Three Down looks at some sobering moments from the week, including the loss of former public address announcer Robb Edwards and a terrifying escalator malfunction at American Family Field. Could the Brewers have two all-star starters for the first time in a decade? Remembrew When goes back in time to 1980, when an inside-the-park home run and grand slam happened at the same time. Then, JR sits down with Tyler Black, a rookie infielder with a bright future. Though he was optioned back to Class AAA Nashville at the end of the week, Black has been with the Brewers for multiple stints this year, and he discussed giving up hockey, Canadian baseball, his first memories of Milwaukee playing for Wright State at Hank Aaron Field, the automatic strike zone and his defense. A 3-4 West Coast road trip doesn't sound too bad, but the Brewers pitching staff continues to take on water; just what solutions can the Brewers muster to stay afloat through the final three-plus months? Brewers reporter Curt Hogg and host JR Radcliffe discuss the surging Tobias Myers, the return of Freddy Peralta but the question marks elsewhere on the staff, including in the bullpen. William Contreras has been struggling for a month, leading JR to invoke a comparison to the dreaded 2014 season. Sal Frelick saved the day with an unforgettable catch, but is he the leading candidate to go down to Nashville if and when Garrett Mitchell returns? What's the deal with one highly regarded modern statistic regarding the home-run saving leap as ... routine? Plus, discussion on Jackson Chourio's sprint speed and continued improvement, a Brice Turang grand slam and Remembrew When goes back in time to a legendary moment in Milwaukee from the late Willie Mays. Curt Blanche then questions if the Brewers are limiting how much they can get out of one of their best players. Then, JR is joined by Lee Kluck (1:05:00), who wrote the new book "Leave While the Party's Good: The Life and Legacy of Baseball Executive Harry Dalton." Dalton, a former Brewers general manager, led the franchise to its first brush with greatness, including the 1982 World Series.
