"The Door" - Power and Promise Series Journey into the rich world of first-century shepherding to understand one of Jesus's most profound "I AM" statements. Through two distinct types of sheepfolds—city and country—discover how Jesus reveals His role as both our salvation and protection. Key Insights: • The City Sheepfold: Where true sheep recognize their shepherd's voice • The Country Sheepfold: Where the shepherd becomes the door • Why sheep respond only to their shepherd's unique call • How Jesus positions Himself between us and every danger • The difference between religious activity and true relationship Scripture Focus: John 10:1-10 (https://www.bible.com/bible/111/JHN.10.NIV) "I am the door. If anyone enters by me, he will be saved and will go in and out and find pasture." Learn why sheep recognize their shepherd's voice and how this metaphor reveals three truths: Jesus as the only way to God, his promise of protection, and his path to fulfillment. Understanding how shepherds became living doors by laying down in the gateway illuminates Jesus's role between us and danger. This message challenges believers to examine whose voice they follow and whether they've entered through the one door that leads to abundant life. The world Jesus entered was filled with false leaders. The spiritual leaders of the nation had become self-interested. Rather than caring for the people, they fattened themselves. They were self-appointed and self-righteous. Jesus entered their world and said, “I am the Good Shepherd.” He was appointed by His Father as the true leader of God's people. He is the Chief Shepherd to which all other leaders of God's people must submit. If we are true sheep, we will follow Jesus, the True Shepherd. Following Jesus means having a personal relationship with Him and being led by the Holy Spirit in our daily lives. Jesus calls us by name and tenderly guides us as we listen to His voice. How do we discern His voice from the voice of a stranger? Jesus said, “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” (Jn. 8:31-32). Take-Home Message: True sheep follow the True Shepherd. Fr. Mike explains the beautiful connections between all of our readings today. He emphasizes how good shepherds are willing to face the truth, and also sacrifice for their sheep, like Jesus who laid down his life for us. In our reading of Jeremiah, Fr. Mike also explains that the experience of shame points to the reality that there is something good within us that ought not to be violated. Today we read Jeremiah 6, Ezekiel 34-35, and Proverbs 14:25-28. For the complete reading plan, visit ascensionpress.com/bibleinayear. In today's study, we examine the difference between the Good Shepherd of John 10 against the false shepherds of Eze. 34. Jesus claims to be the Good Shepherd, the Door, and the only Way for the sheep to make it in. He teaches against the false shepherds, strangers, thieves, and robbers, while describing all of them. Jesus uses a lot of shepherding imagery, along with several bold claims to His identity. We have a very lively discussion about many elements found within the text. In our Q&A segment, we were asked a livewire of a question: I heard someone preach recently that it is the same as stealing to cheat on your income taxes, but I feel that these are 2 very different things… what do you say?If you are interested in a good study, go ahead and start listening, for we believe you have found it!

How do you know? 7 The Doctrine of Revelation
Zechariah prophesied that the Lord's judgment is going to come to all people. This means that it is upon those outside the believing or covenant community as well as those inside the community or the church. Zechariah warns the false shepherds they will be judged. Zechariah also points out a troubling time when his people treat one another as commodities to be traded rather than fellow members of Christ. Zechariah leaves us to see that our only hope is bowing our necks under the Lord's redeeming mercy.

Jesus The Good Shepherd
Today, Thursday November 11 Beware of False Shepherds Jude 1:12-13 “These are spots in your love feasts, while they feast with you without fear, serving only themselves. They are clouds without water, carried about by the winds; late autumn trees without fruit, twice dead, pulled up by the roots; raging waves of the sea, foaming up their own shame; wandering stars for whom is reserved the blackness of darkness forever.” Today is Veteran's Day! I am so thankful for the men and women who have served in our nation's military to protect us and our country. These dear veterans were willing to fight and die to give us the freedoms that we enjoy in this great country. Be sure and take the time to honor them in some way today and definitely tell as many as you can how thankful you are for their service to our country! How interesting that in the verses before us today we see a sharp contrast between those who are willing to serve, sacrifice and die for others and the false shepherds, the apostate teachers who are interested in only serving themselves. Jude is exposing and describing the apostates, the false teachers who have “crept into” the fellowship of believers of his day (v. 4). He first noted that it was obvious that they rejected divine authority and how God's judgment was sure to come on them (Vs. 5-11). Now Jude tells us how they resort to deliberate hypocrisy (Vs. 12-13 & 16). Jude, in verses twelve and thirteen, presents six vivid pictures of these false shepherds. They are not only “filthy spots or blemishes” (v. 12a), they are “serving only themselves” (v. 12b), which can be translated “shepherds feeding themselves”. They are selfish shepherds. The word translated "feeding" means "shepherding." Instead of shepherding the flock and caring for the needs of the people, these apostates only take care of themselves. Jude may have had in mind Isaiah 56:10-12 and Ezekiel 34, where the prophets condemned the political and spiritual leaders of the nation ("shepherds") for exploiting the people and caring only for themselves. It is a serious thing to be a shepherd over God's flock. Our example must be Jesus Christ, the Good Shepherd who gave His life for the sheep (John 10). False shepherds use and abuse people in order to get what they want, and yet all the while, the people love it! Paul marveled at this when he wrote 2 Corinthians 11:20—"You don't mind, do you, if a man takes away your liberty, spends your money, takes advantage of you, puts on airs, or even smacks your face?" These selfish shepherds do all of this "without fear." They are an arrogant lot! This is the difference between a true shepherd and a hireling: the true shepherd cares for the sheep, while the hireling cares only for himself. "Woe be to the shepherds of Israel that do feed themselves! Should not the shepherds feed the flocks?" (Ezek. 34:2) But these apostates ought to be afraid, for their judgment is coming. Today would also be a great day to be thankful for all those who have served in the Lord's great army as pastors, Sunday school teachers, nursery workers, elders, deacons, and the list could go on and on! These dear people have also sacrificed their lives and have given their time and resources for the sake of the Gospel. For every false shepherd there are hundreds of true, godly men and women who love the flock of God as they lead, protect, feed and teach the Word of God! Take time to also thank a veteran in the Lord's army for their service in the “Kingdom”. God bless!
